Stories Behind The Songs
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 29 มิ.ย. 2012
I've always loved listening to music and learning what went into the creation of the bands, the songs and the albums. When I was around ten years old I got really into the Beatles and started loving their songs. Then I read "The Love You Make" which told the behind the scenes story of the Beatles and their music. Suddenly a lot of the songs had a whole different dimension and it made me love the music even more. In this channel I create videos that tell the interesting back story to some of the great rock and pop songs from history, with the goal that it will help people appreciate the songs and the band even more, and enable them to listen to a song they've always loved in a new and interesting way.

You're So Vain - Carly Simon Story Behind The Song
I think it's more the thing of her getting to show off her song, with this great guitarist, who went thru so much with her.. not a hate song, like most ppl say
I could feel the hurt and sadness in her voice when she turned to him. It actually made me cry.
Now I know I'm not alone in recognizing that the Buckingham Nicks duo sorta came full circle in that Initially Mick extended the invitation to Lindsay only to join the band but Lindsay, ever loyal to his lady, refused unless they also invited Stevie. Of course we all know how it ended...with Stevie up front center stage charming the pants off the audience of course! Fleetwood Mac must have thought they struck GOLD once they saw Stevie Workin those arenas! And let's face it, this was what had always seemed to b missing from the bands live performances. The bands always been great but they were missing that final piece of the puzzle, the lightning in a bottle that ALL OF US need from a live performance, that charismatic entertainer up front creating magic & casting spells on the audience! Any band can be good artists & musicians but love shows MUST have that magical ingredient. Someone up front to CONNECT with their audience & Stevie Nicks had the ability IN SPADES with MS. NICKS! Mick, the DADDY in the band, must have thought,"Fuckin HELL! We just won the fkg lottery mates! Strap yourselves in cause this bands gonna take flight!!!" ....and they certainly DID😂 However what effect must that have on Stevie in the beginning knowing that she was sorta buy one get this pretty little ornament for free! That had to hurt & make her feel that she was only there because Lindsay had given this band an ultimate tum. She must have thought she had so much to prove. In coming full circle it's now Lindsay whose been sorta kicked to the curb & needing Stevie to advocate for him to rejoin the band! Stevie certainly has come a long way, right? 😮
My fav album of all time and fav group. It is a shame they are not in the Rock and Roll HOF. The gap between Dont Look Bank and Third Stage hurts. They should have had one or two albums then and they would have cemented themselves. Still they are amazing. RIP Brad Delp as well
It's a heartbreaking song. I've never known true love. I'd have given anything to be loved like Stevie loved Lindsey. I shed tears when I listen to Silver Springs and also the Foo Fighters Everlong. I hope, truly hope, Steve and Lindsey are happy and loved today, 21st November 2024❤
This was an incredible story thank you so much. My sister tunred me onto them at 10 years old she was 25, we were living in the Bay Area and right in the middle of this. Been to Plant Studios, I am very grateful for your knowledge on this story.
What a brilliant story. Wow.
I was a deejay at a couple of “album rock” stations in the 1970s. Not long before the release of “Rumours” the station I was on (KBCO, Boulder) got a “12-inch single,” a promo copy of “Go Your Own Way”/“Silver Springs.” (The record companies frequently sent out 12-inch singles because they had a higher fidelity-better sound-than a 45.) I was on the graveyard shift at KBCO which gave me a certain latitude for going “off format,” like playing deep album cuts and B-sides of new releases. Naturally, I took the opportunity to play “Silver Springs” a few times when “Go Your Own Way” actually came up on the playlist. I don’t remember getting more than 1 or 2 calls about “SS” whenever I played it; but then, I *was* on the *graveyard* shift. I think the PD (program director) of the station later added it to the playlist for 2 or 3 weeks, on low rotation. I don’t know how much reaction or interest in the song the station got during the daytime and early evening dayparts, but I do know it rotated off the list after a couple of weeks. That was the last I heard of it until “The Dance” and the concert video came out.
20 yrs had passed. You think it's ancient history UNTIL..... You're staring in the eyes, singing these words & bleeding again. They BOTH needed that. Stevie falls in live with the music... there's a pattern. New, shiny, creative & understanding. I think I've been guilty of that...
This is awesome! thank you!
Mesmerising, it's like a chant -- what a band, what a performance, what a magic lady is Stevie.
Beautiful and heart wrenching moment. I’ve watched it many times. She is stunning and magical.
I've cried so many times watching this...
@ yep it got me too. I totally forgot about this for a long time.
I actually bought the Japanese single of this song back in 1981. A deep cut radio station had played it. It had ALWAYS BEEN my favorite. I played that single until the grooves smoothed!
Listen to the story told by Buckengham
In the 90’s The Dance” came about because Bill Clinton convinced the band to reunite.
Lindsey B. Is probably the best finger pickin..guitarist in music 🎶 Magic Fingers....I Tell ya.
Such a dope song!!!
Awesome. Great video. I watched the performance like 10 times before checking out this video. Its so great.
Good stuff. Super interesting!
Boy oh boy I love that song. It's so good and so very well written
Silver Springs was originally released on the B side of the 45 vinyl of Go Your Own Way that was on the A side. Go Your Own Way hit at the #10 spot and remained in the top 40 for weeks. In 2023, Lindsey’s hit went quadruple platinum (BPI certified).
Your first love, will always be your first love. Famous, and public, or not.
11:45 to the 12:00 mark was personal as she is absolutely GUSHING with emotion. WOW... SO powerful!!
Silver Springs ✨😘😘😘
What exactly caused the breakup? Do u think she would go back now?
Is this a movie??? If not, it should be...
One of the best songs ever written ❤
Nice video
Today I Changed The chorus lyrics to "More, more War. How do like it? How do you like it? More War, More. How do like it? How do you like it?".
There is Lindseys version too and Stevie has many stories all according to Stevie tho

Silver Springs was included on the 1992 Fleetwood Mac box set 25 years The Chain! This was the first time I heard of it.
Sounds like she's manifesting him right to his face.
Regardless of Andrea True's previous career, More More More captures the mid 1970s perfectly. It's one of my favorite songs. R I P Andrea we love you.
I remember hearing this song for the first time on 1997 and I said to a friend… I love Fleetwood Mac’s new song Silver Springs and he said it’s not new and I said yes it is… it’s not on of their albums and he said he has it on a 4 cd box set called 25years of the Chain. I found a used copy at a cd store and there was the original version of the song!! I couldn’t believe it! I’m so glad it’s made its way back to the Rumours album where it belongs!
Your really reaching , about the is bass line stuff… my goodness.
The funny thing is that I told my boyfriend ( just by watching the video) that exact same thing as far as who the song was written about and the fact that she turns to him as if unaware that anyone else was in the room. So hearing the story behind the song is just mind blowing that all these years I was spot on. Wow. She is my girl, then and now. Go Stevie
Does Deacon get the soul song writing credits? 0:22 & 2:20. I thought Mercury also helped with the lyrics? I thought the song writing is the combination of the music and the lyrics?
John MacVie was the Mac in Fleetwood Mac, a founding member left out of this video when the original lineup was mentioned…disappointing.
There’s ANOTHER version of “Without You”, a DIFFERENT song, different lyric, on Jack Jones’s album of the same name, Strangely, that songwriting credit is also “Nilsson” - but I haven’t been able to find any more about it. Yet it’s from 1968, predating the more famous version. *small voice* I think it’s a far better song! (Not the singing, the song + lyrics)
Awesome thanks for sharing ❤
Silver Springs is having its moment ❤
Joe Rogan brought me here.
There was one problem with the final mix. Mick and Merry's voices were buried by the backing, sounding as though they had been shut out of the studio, struggling to be heard. But I found a much better drumless mix where their vocals were brought upfront, so you can hear the lyrics for the first time ever. You also get the full unfaded ending for the first time which more than compensates for the lack of drums, th-cam.com/video/hbblP5JDL94/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for sharing that link, that is awesome. I had never heard that before.
If you look at the time 12:00, the look on Christine's face...it's as if she feels the sorrow between those two. And at 11:51, she shakes her head to Lindsey as if saying "you'll never get away". At 11:34, Lindsey is bowing his head in sort of an acknowledgment to the words she is singing.
Imo bulls are strong fierce animals and could be referencing the military during military parades, the reason as to why it's at the end of the song could signify that now that the government has spent all the money they can now show it off in a parade. Hence bulls (the army/tanks possibly) on parade (showing off to the people where their tax money goes, war)
Forgive me if I’m wrong, but I think it’s silver spring because that’s the name of the town which inspired her to write the song.
I had the original 45. Many years ago I heard that the way the band Steam got or took the name was because the band got out late one night and in the early morning. It was cold out side. They were in New York I think and they went outside after recording and saw steam coming up from the man hole covers. Ergo Steam was chosen
I need a back story to hotel California by the eagles
and you are going to get it. It may be the next one I do 😁
His rebuttal song back to this called Say Goodbye is incredible. Saddest song written.
