  • In 1975 the lives of Bob Dylan and Rubin Carter intersected, and the result was the song Hurricane. A man convicted of murder and serving a life sentence releases his autobiography while in jail, and a public uprising ensues. Into this maelstrom Dylan released an 8 and 1/2 minute epic that describes the saga in detail. There are multiple backstories here that even fans of Dylan don't know. In this song analysis, I delve into the whole story behind the song. For more stories behind great songs, visit / @tunesman100

    "He did not show up in marches"? He showed up with the Martin Luther King march and even performed at the march. Elsewise it is a very good walk through story of the "Hurricane". Dylan did a lot to showcase Hurricanes story but it was other people that actually fought for him and got him released

      But Hurricane is actually guilty. It's stupid to pretend otherwise. It's disingenuous.

      Not tell stories, "la la oh la" and covers of folk songs are not original storytelling.
      one could argue his influence in folk music actually took out telling a story as a core part of any given song.

    The reason they were initially released is because one of the men who were there that had been shot put eyes on them from his hospital bed and said they werent the guys.

    Can’t say for sure if Carter was innocent or guilty, but he didn’t get ripped off In his title shot. He just got beat.

    Hurricane Carter was known to have owned a 12-gauge shotgun and a .32 caliber German pistol. The killers used a 12-gauge shotgun and a .32 caliber pistol. Isn't it sort of shocking that his 12-gauge shotgun and his pistol went missing in the aftermath of the shootings? He still had shotgun shells and pistol bullets in his car. There are a lot of things his supporters would like to just forget about, completely ignore, and quickly move past. It's called a confirmation bias. Supporters of Carter and Artis need to learn what a confirmation bias is.

    • @CoolhandLukeSkywalkr
      @CoolhandLukeSkywalkr 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@samanthaswade7053 Lots of good sources for the guilt of these guys. Cal Deal has compiled a lot of information. Carter and Artis have as much or possibly more evidence against them than there is against OJ Simpson. Judge Sarokin was a creepy guy. Leftwing activist judges almost always side with the killers and not with the victims. Jimmy Carter hand-selected that evil prick. It's just leftists being typical human trash.

      Yeah, I remember hearing on the radio, sometime after the song had died down, that Dylan got advised by his lawyers to get his facts straight. That's probably why he stopped performing the song. And that's the last I heard of the story, that Carter was indeed guilty, and that's where it ended. Until I found the 'resurgence' of the story here on YT, reviving the 'falsely convicted' narrative which I was taken by surprise by. Because I thought the case was closed. I mean I loved the song and the cause but later upon hearing that it was all false, felt a bit betrayed, and hadn't listened to the song since. Guess nobody will never really know.

    This wasbthe first Album of Dylan's I bought. I wore this song out. I didnt know about this song til I played it. It was a sit down what the heck dis)d I just hear? It had to be a true story. Dylan didnt make this up. I played it so much I did ruin the album, and tell the truth, I didnt play any of the other tracks.

      The lyrics tell a good story as well as an in depth insight into the racism which plauged the legal/justice system back in the 60s and 70s with corruption and fabrications.

    The more I looked into the case the more I’m convinced that Carter was guilty

    • @tunesman100
      @tunesman100  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I tried to stay away from stating an opinion and just tell the story. That being said I believe Carter was involved in some way - either he knew about it but didn’t do it or he was an accomplice. I find it highly unlikely that he pulled the trigger but I also find it highly unlikely that he had no knowledge or involvement. I think the culprit is pretty obvious and the cops let him get away.

    Dylan gives his all to what he does and then moves on - it's the same with everything - folk, christianity, everything. Nothing different about the Carter story.
