the sportster is an outstanding bike,i put 108,000 miles on mine and it still runs great. my experience with the fury is limited to one short ride. it felt excellent. love the shaft drive. I also have a Honda 750 aero which is outstanding. tough choice.

Honda that the one for me.

engine on older Honda’s need to be running at 2000rpm minimum before charging system will bring a full charge. Nighthawks had this issue and Honda never corrected this, so if your in a lot of slow speed riding, use a lower gear to keep the rpm up. It’s just one of those things about this bike. You’ll notice the lights will increase in brightness when you increase your rpm.

Shouldn't use the white rotella... It has friction modification and can make your clutch slip.... You need to use the blue bottles.

I have a 2010 Sabre which is the same, and you are right, taking a U turn with this bike is a pain, but then I am used to smaller bikes, so that might be a factor. I gotta' say that they are a rush to drive on the open road though.

Where did the 10 mm hose off of the left rear bank come from? Was that the only one that had the 10 mm extra piece of hose? Where did that extra piece of hose come from if it was only on that one carburetor?

Brother, you're smart, you bought a Mercury gauge. Don't rap it too hard, or you'll suck the Mercury into the carburetors. You have to know that old school solid stuff. It's the Mercury that's expensive.

I noticed you kind of skipped over the rotor bolt removal.. How much trouble did you have removing the old rotor bolts? Did you replace them with oem new?

59 ft lbs main shaft bolt.

Carb #2 (front left) is set by the factory and there is no adjustment. It is the master carb. The other three carbs will need to be adjusted to match carb #2. The adjustment screw on the left side only adjusts carb #1 (rear left). Adjust that screw to match Carb #2. Best to set your idle to 1300 RPM for these adjustments. The 2 screws on the right side (shown at 8:30) work as follows: -the rear screw adjusts #3 carb (rear right) only -the front screw adjusts #3 & #4 simultaneously Procedure: Start on the left side by adjusting #1 carb to #2 carb Move to the right side and adjust #3 carb to #4 carb (using the rear screw) Adjust #3 & #4 carbs to #1 & #2 (using the front screw) Blip the throttle after each change. Reset idle thumbscrew back to 950-1050 RPM

Man they were way off when you started, one suggestion, I have the same guages, I use an A frame ladder over the bike and hang the guages instead of leaving them on the bike due to vibrations

i just can't get into the vmax 1700. the design looks like a cartoon caricature of the original. i much prefer the looks of the vmax 1200. it's perfect
