How To Process A Chicken
It's time to process my first round of chickens and in this video, I'll walk you through how to do it step by step.
Raising chickens for meat is not as complicated as it might seem. I stopped buying meat from the grocery store a few years ago and have never looked back. Stay tuned to see exactly how to process a chicken from start to finish.

Welcome back! It's the end of May which means it's time to start planting. Ive spent the last few weeks putting in new gardens and it is finally time to plant in them This season I've expanded my garden and created the best garden space I've had to date. I've doubled, if not tripled some of the things I've planted in hopes to have enough to get me through the winter. Stay tuned to see how the g...
Installing Bees On The Homestead
มุมมอง 1.4K21 วันที่ผ่านมา
My new bees have finally arrived and I'm so excited to have them back! Last year I lost my bees to rodents and I was devasted. This is my fourth season of beekeeping and unfortunately, I'm starting back at square one. I learn more and more about beekeeping each year, so I'm excited to see what this season brings. Many have asked if honey will be available on the website. The answer is yes, depe...
Spring On A Homestead! New Gardens
มุมมอง 2.8Kหลายเดือนก่อน
Spring is one of the busiest times of the year, especially since moving to a new property before winter. Today I have to cut in all my new gardens for the season and start putting up t-posts so that Annie can rotationally graze. The weather did not cooperate today, it was incredibly windy and very rainy! But, the work needed to get done regardless of what the weather had to say about it. Stay t...
Processing A Deer!
มุมมอง 2.3Kหลายเดือนก่อน
Welcome back! I've had a deer, skinned and quartered in the freezer since hunting season and have not had time to process it until now! Today was finally the day. The plan for this deer was to use it all for ground venison. I stopped at the local butcher and picked up some pork fat to cut with the venison. The kids helped me package the venison and we saved some for dinner! It was a good day, a...

It's spring at the cabin, which means it's time to take the buckets and taps off the trees! Syrup season seemed like it came and went so fast year but ended up being the best season so far. We finished up with 50L of syrup which is more than enough to get through the year. Now that syrup season is over, it's time to move on to all the spring projects. Stay tuned to see what's planned for the ca...

Maple Syrup & Firewood at the Off-Grid Cabin
มุมมอง 6K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
We're only a few days away from spring and that means it's almost time to wrap up syrup season. We are on our second boil of the year and ended up with an additional 14L to add to the 20.5 L we got from the first boil. We have optimal sap weather for the next 10 days and we're hoping for enough sap to do another 20L of syrup, which would bring our grand total to 50L. Today we decided to take ad...
Making Maple Syrup At The Off Grid Cabin
มุมมอง 6K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
Syrup season is well underway and with the early warm weather, we are already doing our first boil! We went up to the cabin for the weekend and managed to boil through almost 900L of sap. With our new evaporator set up, the process was much more efficient and saved a lot of time. We are only mid-season so we still have our taps out and are hoping for a second boil in the next few weeks. At the ...
Winter Day At The Off- Grid Cabin | Maple Syrup Season

Welcome back to the channel! Today we are up at the cabin collecting sap. The weather this season has been incredibly mild so the sap is flowing better than ever. We still have at least 2 weeks left of collecting and we are hoping for around 50 finished li...

We are in growing zone 6a and it's time for us to start planting some of our seeds indoors. Cabbage, broccoli, rosemary, and a few other things need to be started indoors approximately 6 weeks before the final frost. It's winter at the cabin but it's starting to feel like spring! Syrup season is just around the corner and we came up to the cabin to get an inventory of what we need to start maple syrup. EMS in GA. Watch yall often.
glad you’re here!
One of my customers told me elevates the feed so chickens have to work/exercise to get their. That way they don't die of heart attacks. Fairly common f I r meatbirds.
Great video. Very informative
Thanks!
Great job. My wife and I did this last year for a friend. Interesting learning. Good explanation as always !
Good for you guys! How did it turn out?
We managed to do , I think, 30 birds in the day. Alot. There were 5 people, though. Had to buy a new freezer to hold them all. lol
I had a helping partner great job keep going
I wish
Great job! I don’t have a nice plucker like that, I only have the one that goes on a drill. it takes a lot longer and makes a huge mess. I love how the kids help out.
The automatic plucker is life changing haha it makes things so much faster 🐓
Awesome healthy self reliant living, totally agree with your style of life
Thanks 🤗
Awesome job ! Been years since I butchered my own chickens, Nice to see the next generation involved :) Your garden is looking great , Awesome tips & teaching !
Thank you! 👩🌾
Great job raising your own meat birds🌟
Thanks! 🐓
You're amazing, your garden is amazing, good timing for the rain, that was fun to watch!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Yikes!! ~tyfs~!
I’m sure there are others showing real life things and pushing some BS limits but I appreciate that you’re doing it and going in depth with your explanations! I grew up working on farms. Hunt and fish etc. people complain yet still buy meat at the store and that meat magically appears at the store without any of what you’ve had to do 😂😎 my youngest child and only daughter who’s about to be 17 is also named Bailey. Love what you’re doin ! Take care
The meat has to come from somewhere and I’d much rather know where than get it off a shelf at the store 🐓. That’s nice they have both the same name, mine is spelled Bailee 🙂
Love the family affair! The kids will carry this on. Nice job.
Evenin folks 🖐😎👍
Great vid…Thanks for sharing!!!🇨🇦
Where is this located?

Hoping for a good season this year! 🌱
@@living.different I'm betting that you have one. Not sure how reliable the rain is where you are but everything looks green around there so you should get plenty. Hope so.....
Wow!! you are a rockstar to get that all done!!!!!Super kudos to you!!!
Thanks!
You ARE kickin ass ! Thought I’d lost watching your videos after that storm but really enjoying getting caught up and couldn’t resist a new video ! Kinda like one of your favorite shows going off the air ! Love what you’re doing and please keep showing the heart and hard work !! You’re building the inspiration for more than you know !! Take care. Much love from Maine

Yes it is
Wow ! Young Lady your going to have a busy harvest season :)) A lot of work your garden looks awesome, Winter stock pile , Your happy animals are doing great 👍👍
I’m looking forward to see what the garden gives this season! 🌱
@@living.different Yes when you freshly till some soils don't do that well but some veggies don't care as long as you have a good supply of water, I think you will be eating well !
you have done a great job getting the gardens set up. can't wait to watch the growth
Thanks! 👩🌾 I’m lookin forward to seeing it grow too
The garden looks great! 👍 You got a lot done in a short time.
It took a couple days but it’s all set up now! 👩🌾
Smart lady,👏🥰
Quite an abundance of handsome and adorable creatures on the homestead. ~tyfs~! 🐷🐖
Do you ever run out of energy? You're a machine! 👍🏻
There’s always lots of work to do! 👩🌾
You and your hubby remind me of me when I was your age. 😉 I loved being outdoors and gardening! I love watching your channel.
Catching the pigs and the music was hilarious.
Great to see the kids participating in this and not grossed out. Side benefit you know the quality. You guys ever smoke the chicken feet?
Bailee I am Joe from school on my grandmas account
At the farm store I run, we sell tank de-icers. These might help get sap warmer before pouring in your boiling pans. Might cut down time you spend boiling.
Last couple videos I saw from you guys was getting things ready for a garden and then that hellacious storm hit and caused the devastation and you were cleaning up. Honestly I checked the channel over the next month or two and didn’t see anything. I’ve gotten no notifications about any of the videos. Past few days I kept getting this video in my feed. Took me a few days for it to tickle my old brain into remembering hey I know living simple. Refreshed and stilll had to go search for this video. lol. Anyway so happpy to see this video and I’ve got some catching up to do ! Take care and much love from Maine
Weird that happened! I’ve been posting almost weekly since then 🙂 glad you were able to find the new videos!
Yea I was pretty bummed ! Figured the clean up from that storm made you rethink TH-cam. But always really liked what you were posting. So happy that I have some catching up to do. Gonna try to take my time and not binge but no promises. Lol. Always appreciate the responses 😁
Regarding your wood burning stove, it looks from the video that it is OK given that the flue is at least double wall where it goes through the ceiling and the roof. It is excellent practice to clean the flue of creosotes every year. (chimney sweep)
I lived off grid for 7 years and we did firewood to pay the bills and I think you have a excellent amount you can get through any winner, I happen to know that it's possible to do 6 chords a month. My routine was split tost and stack and then deliver, I love the fact that you put it on your porch real close real Handy and that you have so much there's nothing wrong with having enough firewood to staying warm.
Very cool day with the bees ! Use to love helping Dad with the bees & the taste of fresh honey from the hive :) No suit in the late 70's early 80's just a tight neck on your shirt ! To bad the mice got into your hive hopefully that mesh will keep them out"
Very interesting, I learned a lot
Mice can chew wood like it's a piece of fruit. I would use metal to keep them out. I would consider any frames that have rodent damage garbage as mice are filthy animals and step in there own pee/poop...but I'm not a bee keeper.
I agree , they are filthy . I took all the old frames out for that reason! 🐝
We just watched your video and had the same issues with mice last year! Luckily we have some really knowledgeable people in our bee group who showed us a product that works excellent! We got a set of these mice guards from our local bee shop but i found a link too the same ones that I will post at the end of this comment. You essentially screw in 2 clips at either side of your entrance and this mouse guard slides down against your bottom board allowing no way for a mouse to get in. And the exra cool thing is you can flip it upside down and it has very small holes to allow for ventilation into the hive but the bees can't get out. So it would be useful if you had too transport a hive, or if you wanted to weed eat around the hive, or if theres a warm day with a cold front coming and you dont want them to break cluster. Hopefully this helps, and keep up the good work! Heres the link to the same ones we have galenafarms.com/products/gf10-mg?variant=41058176172196
Why not make a cage out of hardware cloth to cover entire hive? Plus grass gives them cover to sneak in. Do you have any owls/hawks in the area to hunt the mice? They might help or barn cats.
You should drink lots of water and then have something healthy for breakfast before you do any kind of physical activity. Food is fuel.
I did it, the it is firewood. for room and board, and it for about 6 years we were splitting and selling firewood to pay the bills, I'm not kidding we did on average 6 chords a month. And of course I was about 25 years younger. What I'm trying to say and having a difficult time doing it is I watch you guys process firewood and it just brings back really good memories, I really like your content I love your porches what a good idea.
I think it's a very intelligent and thoughtful to put your firewood on your porches, you don't have to go 50 yards to get to your firewood and bring it back, it's a couple of steps. I did firewood for room & board, 6 chords a month yes it can be done, so I love what you guys are doing.
Really cool video. I am a small time beekeeper too. I lost 2 hives over the winter that were still full of honey. That puzzled me. Last year i caught a swarm and put it in an observation hive in my house. Yesterday after posting/bragging on social media about an observation hive a year old....they swarmed! I did catch the swarm but it is a small swarm. I put them in a box with drawn comb and honey stores. I like the idea of wood chips to wick moisture...I will definately be doing that next winter. Thank you for the video. You inspire me to keep going with the gardening and bee keeping. Im 67....not real old...but i wore myself out working hard for 48 years. Looking forward to more content...thanks again!!
