ALL ABOUT DRUMS! Building drums. Fixing drums. Playing drums... DRUMS DRUMS DRUMS!
A DRUMMERS VACATION
As the family was heading down to the beach for vacation I decided to hit the music shops along the way. Had a blast doing so and bought some stuff to take back home with me.

MIJ DRUMS "THE FRANKENKIT" PART 1
มุมมอง 32114 วันที่ผ่านมา
This is an unknown MIJ kit that I had purchased off of marketplace a few weeks ago. Repeat shell sizes along with a variety of different lugs and no badges to help identify this kit makes it the perfect candidate for a rebuild. Join me as I tear into this kit and start the process to make it playable again.
MORE DRUMS = MORE PROJECTS

A short video on how I acquire the drum kits that I have on my channel. Some are free while others cost me a little. This is just one of the ways I end up getting my hands on some awesome projects for the future.

I GOT THIS SNARE FOR FREE!
มุมมอง 660หลายเดือนก่อน
I recently received this Gretsch 4103 Snare Drum and will be doing what I do to get it back into playable shape. My fiancé brought it home from work in a trash bag one night and said a coworker had given it to her since he knew I was a collector and fixer of all thing's drums. Huge shout out and THANK YOU to Preston Caldwell for this awesome snare! Follow along as I strip it down to prepare for...
FINALLY WRAPPING UP the LUDWIG BUILD
มุมมอง 3673 หลายเดือนก่อน
IT IS DONE! In this video I finish the last few things that are needed to complete this build. It was one hell of a learning experience, but I am beyond glad I was able to finally do it. This is the last and final "build" video on this kit. If you're curious to see how it started go check out my other videos on this project. As always THANKS for watching and DRUMS DRUMS DRUMS!
THE LUDWIG ROCKER BUILD PT.3
มุมมอง 1973 หลายเดือนก่อน
Part 3 in the series. In this video I take care of some lugs and patch some holes. I also decided to order a wrap for this kit since I didn't want to spend the time refinishing it all over again.
LUDWIG ROCKER KIT PT.2

Second video in the Ludwig rocker series. Quickly going over how I did some re-rings along with the bearing edges. Far from factory perfect but an awesome addition to the kit.
THE LUDWIG ROCKER KIT PT.1
มุมมอง 1.5K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
It's that time again I get around to "redoing" another drum kit. This one happens to be one of my own that has been around for a few years now. It is what I believe to be a set of Ludwig Rockers. The drums have been through many owners before I got to them and who knows what's been replaced or added over the years. But follow along as I fix them up one last time and forever add them into my col...
MORE DRUMS! The Mapex Armory Kit
มุมมอง 6645 หลายเดือนก่อน
Awhile back I had purchased an old drum kit that came with cymbals and stands. I was able to sell off those items leaving me with a free kit out of it all. That was the kit was then traded to get these. The Mapex Armory Studio ease drum kit. Way more drums than I'll ever use but wasn't going to miss out on the opportunity to grab them. Highly recommend these great looking and sounding kits from...
I BUILT A KICK BLOCK
มุมมอง 5656 หลายเดือนก่อน
I had an old wooden bass drum hoop that was part of a failed project from awhile back. Instead of tossing it I decided to make something fun and useful from it. After a bit of work, I was able to create a percussive piece in the form of a kick block.
FIXING a CRACKED CYMBAL
มุมมอง 1606 หลายเดือนก่อน
Quick video showing you how easy it is to fix a cymbal that has a crack in it. This was my second time ever doing trying this, so I still have tons to learn and only hope to get better at it with time. Either way this cymbal left in a great sounding and playable condition and the client was happy.
QUICK SOUND DEMO OF THE VINTAGE GRETSCH KIT (PT.5)
มุมมอง 1.6K7 หลายเดือนก่อน
As promised a quick sound demo on this Vintage Gretsch Kit that I had refurbished and brough back to life. Never owned such a big set up like these so it was fun to learn and mess with some tunings. I hope I did it some justice... 13 14 18 24 in a mid-tuning I would say. Not loose but not too tight on the heads and no muffling done to anything. Hope you enjoy! like sub and comment on how I did.
COMMITTING VINTAGE DRUM BLASTPHEMY (PT.4)

Part 4 and final video on my process of refurbishing this Gretsch drum kit. Errors made things learned but fun none the less. After I mess with some tunings, I will make a video of what each drum sounds like and a quick play through. So, subscribe and THANK YOU for watching! DRUMS DRUMS DRUMS

A tip I've taken from a luthier. If you want to remove paint, vanish, don't use sandpaper right away. Start with a sharp scraper. You'll remove coats faster and less expensively. One you reach wood you can start with medium/fine sandpaper.
Russell, thank you for the invitation to join you on your vacation. I have been in one drum shop in my life, and it was so overwhelming.🤣
Thats how I felt at 2112 so I had to make 2 trips to take it all in. It was an amazing place, and I could have spent days there.
@@Russell_Drums I agree with you, Russell. I can’t believe how much drum swag was on display. Thanks again.
Drums man Drums!!! Thanks for the video my friend.
Could be a Norma. I had a sparkle blue one
I just love it when you invite us along to watch your drum restorations. Thanks so much.❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️
Great video! Great content! Subscribed! Thanks for the effort.
3:54 Noooo!
Drummer/Technician in Texas here! Great concept in this niche YT musician market. I was Just wondering how you came up with reasonable pricing? By the hour + parts? Flat Rates? Do you charge to pick up and deliver? I have been repairing and setting up guitars for several years. There is a market with standard pricing-ish, already in place. With drum repairs and re-heading , not so much. Anyway, good stuff man. Keep it up. I have not posted any vids yet. Just getting things going. Liking and subscribing!
We have music shops around town but mostly big box stores or guitar shops ...so with there being no one around here to really service drums I've slowly gained the business of the local drummers. When I played in bands, I would always use my kits and let other drummers use them if need be and it all just started from there. As far as pricing goes, I just try to be as reasonable as I can. If a customer provides the parts then I just charge for labor which depends on the job. If parts are needed, I contact the customer and go over options and help them price compare things until we meet within the budget. Pick up and drop offs of kits are usually decided on what's convenient for us at the time. I also give them a window of time that is needed to complete the job and estimate that over by a day or 2 and try to get it done before then. Most jobs only take a few hours/day to do. I'm still new to all this especially on the "business" side of it all so I'm learning as I go and catering as much as I can to the customer within my skill level. I know I'm all over the place with my answer but feel free to add my Facebook and message me. I'll try to answer you better on there. THANK YOU for the sub! and for watching! DRUMS DRUMS DRUMS!
@@Russell_Drums Keep it up. I am a musician technician as well. I love to play and fix the gear. 🎶
Cool! Hope you’re doing great!!
I am thank you and same to you! Just been trying to make more videos and keep my hands dirty with some drums.
nice job man!
Coming from you that's a huge THANK YOU!!!
Great sounding drums ! A second floor tom - best is 20" - would do the trick even more...😊
That would be awesome!
Good stain job, although not that glossy as the original. Yes, those flat tin 'bastard' nuts for the muffler are original Gretsch, and they were on the set. Once again: good work and good story-telling. Best regards from Germany, Martin
When polishing lugs I always take out the swivel nut and spring, makes it easier to reach all those nicks. If chrome is pitted it is pitted, rechroming on cast parts is difficult - leave as is or replace the parts...
is your drum key from a bass drum pedal?
It might be... I have a bunch of different ones that I have gained over the years. Some from shows or in a box that I got from a drum buy.
Why not remove the pedal board and clean those parts?
Fantastic results.
Thank you!
I've had better luck with goof off on the glue removal. Looks good!
the dog joke had me dead
Looks and sounds great. Thanks for the video!
THANKS for watching!
Russell, thanks for sharing your fun project with us. I’m excited to see how it turns out.❤️🙏❤️
Niiiiiiiiiice!!!!
Drums Drums Drums! Hope you’re doing well!!
Hi, I just found your channel and watched a few videos. I'm commenting because you asked, not to criticize, but I would be nervous as hell with the tom mount such that if it happens to come loose, it would slide down the pole right into your beautiful base drum. My OCD says turn it the other way, please for safety! Great job building your Rockers. I did mine too, but never videoed the process. Just a few pictures along the way. I use mine gigging regularly, and they are awesome good drums.
I see what you're saying. I do think about that at times so I've gotten used to double checking it before playing. I've had more problems when the mounting L-rod is pointing up and have had it loosen at the ball and fall from the weight of the drum. Flipping it around seems to help and allows me to have a flat tom set up. To each their own lol. THANKS FOR WATCHING!
Great videos and nice job on the drum kit! Can you post a link from where you bought the drum wrap.

great job
Russell,I just found your channel, and boy, am I glad I did. I finished up your Gretsch rebuild along with Ludwig Rocker set refinishing. I thoroughly enjoyed both. Thank you for posting your educational and entertaining videos. I see that you are from Satsop. I am about an hour away in South Bend. Maybe one day, if the stars align, we can meet and talk drums. I am a 74 year old self taught drummer. I taught elementary school for 39 years and coached high school varsity football for 45 years. Oh, my name is Greg Wonhoff.❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️
Awesome and THANK YOU for the kind words. I'm still new at all this and learning along the way with builds and videos but have been drumming for about 15 years now myself. Although I live in the Canton Ohio area... I'd love you one day soon travel around the surrounding states to a few drum shops so if and when I do I'll let everyone know what areas I'll be visiting and hopefully get to put faces to some names of viewers. Thank you again and as always...DRUMS DRUMS DRUMS!
@@Russell_Drums I am sorry to hear that you aren’t from Satsop, WA. When I found your TH-cam page it said Satsop, WA at the top after your name. Oh well, we will just have to settle on being friends here. Thank you getting back to me and have a great weekend.
Nice job man. I think I’ll update my lug screws with newer ones too. Good idea! Thx. 👏🥁
Very well worth it. It only cost about $12 for them and washers. Also looks cleaner IMO.
What is the shell material of your kit Russell? Maybe I cant see shit, but it looks like particle board. Looking forward to your new wrap. I visited that website and they have quite the selection.
From what I have read they are poplar and birch shells. And they have the Granitone interiors on them.
LOL I do see how it looks like particle board/osb on the interiors of the shells. The outside finish was a flop by me from years ago for a music video and look like shit. REMO Acousticon drums are the ones made from particle board. I'm able to get my hands on one of those kits so I might do a future video on it.
Not a Rocker kit. It is a S/L Series made from 84 till 86 then became the Rocker II kits with the Granitone interiors.
Cool man!looking forward to seeing the wrap. I don’t like the way Ludwig put the screws and lugs all together to scrape each other. I ordered a set and sent back two that sucked. Oh well. Not your problem. Sorry.
Yes, the only issue I've ever had with kit besides the weak bass drum spurs and floor tom legs are the screws! Mine are the flat head type and were a pain in the ass to get out since they were rusted. Broke a few lugs trying to remove them so I'm going to upgrade the screws before rebuilding.
Great job brother
Blast - phemy isnt a word
I always wanted a rocket. They just seem cool
I also have the same shell kit. What is your thought on adding the re-rings?
I haven't got it back together yet but hoping for a bit "thicker" sound. Also, these are thin shells so the added structure will help them stay round. Fingers crossed lol.
Had deleted the first version of PT.2 on accident so this is the re-edited version uploaded. Sorry for the confusion!
Yeah! Do it !! Have the same size Rocker setup myself, but with the other lugs.
Thats awesome! If I'm thinking of them correctly you have the standard style lugs on your kit. I have a chrome snare that has those lugs on it. Glad someone out there can relate to the builds and has the same kind of kits... drums drums drums!
Heart in your ass...what a dork😂
Made my own drum key drill bit. Lol.
Sounds great 👍
*Promo sm*
That finish is soooooooo Pimp!!!!!
Nice job.
They sound great.!!!
Next time try stripp eze, save you a hole lot of time getting off that old finish.
Another super well put together video man. They look more and more professional every time.
Great info.
That’s fine but the only thing is that if you want to remove the block you’ve got holes in the bass drum rim!! Doesn’t affect the sound but looks pretty crappy Guess you could replace the rim but that’s a extra cost
Very true... I plan to upgrade to a wooden hoop in the future, so I wasn't too worried about this one. In the event that I do remove the block I will just rotate the rim so that the holes are on the bottom and covered by the pedal if needed.
Dude… have a great Christmas n stuff,man!
Thank you! and you as well!
beasty :)
I have both versions of the same pedal. A single, and a double. They stay in carry bags when not in use.
