Raft River Enduro 2024 in less than 9 minutes
Always one of my favorite events of the year, the Raft River Enduro in Yost Utah, hosted by the Buzzards MC was a crazy one this year. The dust was as bad as I've ever seen it, but I still had a great time racing my dirt bike and hanging out with my family and all my good riding friends. I had a lot of mayhem and craziness in this race that resulted in a subpar performance, but that's part of the bench racing fun.
If you want to experience a few fun moments from all 6 of the special tests in less than 9 minutes, then ride along for the fun.

Idaho City 100 Enduro, Day 2, 2024

What's better than one day of the Idaho City 100 Enduro....how about a second day! The course is run in reverse on Day 2 and that always adds a whole new element to the experience. My shoulder injury finally loosened up enough that I was able to push a little bit harder and I really enjoyed Day 2 as did the rest of the RideWithTheKnights crew. Ride along for all 5 special tests, but with a litt...

It's hard to pass up a day in the desert when it rains and there is an Enduro just a few hours from home. This was my first time racing the Nutty Putty Enduro and it was a great time racing with two of my sons and my brother. Rhino Rally Desert Race February 2024

The Rhino Rally desert race in Warner Valley Utah is always one of the most popular races of the year. With a BLM imposed 300 max rider count (for big bikes), the event always sells out . The Cow Dung Run is always one of my favorite races of the year. Held on private property in Lyndyll Utah, it provides lots of fun sandy terrain with some tight singletrack along the Sevier River river bottoms as well as wide open fast desert terrain. My day didn't go well as I broke my rear brake pedal completely off the bike during a brief encounter on the start. I limped back to the pits and...

I love racing in sand and here in Utah we have a lot of it. This was a new race on the USRA series last year and I had a blast racing it. Things were going great this past Saturday at the Snowville USRA race until they weren’t. Finally someone who can actually ride a bike! I have been searching for a vid on this bike and every muppet with a go pro is trying to tell me about it. Waste of time. All I want to see is the bike getting pushed. My wife thanks you as she was getting sick of me screaming at muppets to open the fucken thing up. Having watched this I want the 250 not the 300. Yeah….wasn’t my best moment or language when that happened 😀 I heard him rev his motor right at the top of the hill as we were descending to the finish chicane. I’m all for enduro etiquette and it works both ways but I wasn’t going to completely come to a stop that close to the finish. I moved to the right of the trail and then went high in the left turn just before the final descent to give him a lane both times. When he didn’t take it, I just went for the finish line because at that point and in that spot I was still racing too. It was kind of a D move to take out the finish chute but hey, that’s racing 😀

We used Baofeng short-wave radios that were reprogrammed to use a GMRS channel. We used headsets in our helmets with a push to talk button on the bars. They were wired which was a bit of a pain because you had to plug in every time you got on and off the bike, but we intentionally chose these over the many bluetooth options because the range is exponentially better and we wanted to be able to ride out of each other's dust.

We're very fortunate to have more open space for longer courses, but unfortunately it's becoming more and more challenging for clubs to host races on public lands. That is the transponder we were using for team racing. Rather than the standard sticker-type that you put on your helmet visor, team racing requires you to physically move the transponder from one bike to the other when you switch riders (assuming you're riding different bikes). My brother was riding his Beta on Loop 2 so when I came in from Loop 1 I pulled that off my bar pad and handed it to him. .

I’ve had tons of both 250 and 300’s. The last 2 were 250’s because I liked the quicker responsiveness. I haven’t ridden the 250XC TBI yet but I did ride the 300 and felt it was flawless although it felt like a big bike . The 250’s feel smaller and lighter . What are your thoughts ? We were using Baofeng radios with a wired push to talk button on the bars. It was a bit of a pain to be wired, but the range is exponentially better than bluetooth devices for this type of ride where we could ride separated and out of the dust when needed.

@@ridewithmike962 Thanks, I typically have a radio with me and would like to know more about this, can you post more info or a link to piecing it together?

We used the Baofeng UV-82 radios. They're readily available for cheap on Amazon. They're technically short-wave radios (so not "legal" without a short wave license) but you can hack them to use just a regular GRMS channel, but they use the higher power of the radio. This is what all my buddies and I use for regular trail riding, but we don't use the wired push to talk connectors on our bars. We just put the radios in a pocket of our KLIM vests and then have the small handheld mic clipped to the front. For the Tour, the only thing we did different was to buy some in-helmet speakers with a push to talk button on the bars which made it easier to communicate while riding and did not require stopping (whereas the way we use them when just "regular" trail riding, is that you pretty much just use them when you're stopped and need to communicate something to the larger group. Lots of videos on TH-cam about how to re-program them. It's been several years since I did it so I don't remember all the details, but I remember it involved a USB cable connected through my laptop (that came with the radio) to re-program them.

I just can't see the enjoyment of that grueling ride for even one day, but I definitely am impressed by your tackling it.

Late to the party, but outstanding video with genuine, well rounded information and opinions. Far too many TH-cam reviews present their (usually uninformed) opinions as fact, thanks for not falling into that trap.
