I do not agree with Scott about Mistral, they simply do not have the capital to achieve the success that OpenAI has. Companies like Google and Meta can burn money on AI, even if they'll never catch up, but I don't think Mistral has the capability of catching up. I could be wrong but idk.

I think you guys need to look a little deeper. I don't know much about Nakasone and I think Larry Summers is a very smart guy, but I would be more worried about regulatory capture as well as their independence from Altman et al. The board COULD, by the way, say no to Sam's desire to be a straight for-profit (benefit or otherwise). Also, I think Microsoft might have a lot to say about whether OpenAI goes public. Can't really see an advantage for them (other than truck loads of cash).

These folks are creating a technology that just on the scale of energy consumption is going in the wrong direction. I just can't wrap my head around why anyone would try and scale this stuff up when it demands so much energy use, not to mention the fact that the system is fundamentally inscrutable. Horse before the cart. If this tech was kept in a lab for now and we could make it not only less inscrutable but also not energy hungry then that would make way more sense. Clearly this stuff isn't working in very efficient ways if it requires this much hardware and energy for each large training set.

Splitting the company destroys the value of their flagship sci-fi franchise, Star Trek. Paramount owns the film rights, CBS the TV rights. Selling off the TV business would immediately make this franchise less valuable to buyers.

Shari is right in that the offers are not valuing what the sum of the parts are, but b/c of the debt Paramount has is one more leg down in terms of the stock price to where all the players interested in it, will just wait until they have no choice but to file bankruptcy and they can all just fight over the bones for .25 on the dollar.
