Winter dairy farming in New Zealand and getting all the maintenance jobs done.

Today we dried off the last of our cows and all are now happily out on their winter blocks for the next 40-50 days. Now its time for some well deserved rest and holiday time for our team before we get the farm ready for the busy Springtime

Its been busy the last few weeks drying most of our girls off. We now have well over 2000 cows all out on winter grazing blocks with just a few left milking at Single tree dairies. Today we show you some of these farm blocks and explain how we do our daily checks to make sure all of our girls stay healthy and fully fed during the dry period.

The weather has been cold, wet, and windy the last few weeks dairy farming here in Canterbury New Zealand which does at times make things challenging to manage cows on Autumn/winter crops. Its been cold, wet, and muddy here in Canterbury NZ the last few weeks as we near the end of our milking season on our 2500 cow dairy farm. Unfortunately farmers can't control the weather so we have to just manage with what we are faced with. Having an excellant team makes this way easier. We have been tagging and putting collars on our heifers and also drying cows off to winter grazing blocks....

When I'm by myself and needing to muster in our in calf Heifers, rather than cooperating sometimes they would rather chase me around the field or just stare😅......so my drone can be an effective tool to use.

Its been a busy few weeks at Single tree dairies as our replacement in calf heifers arrived home from their grazing block down south. We have also started some milking cows transitioning onto the fodder beet crops. We milk 2500 cows located in Mid Canterbury New Zealand

Today we have Quigleys Contracting arrive at Single Tree Dairies to bring in 300tn of Maize for our large scale dairy farm in mid canterbury New Zealand

Today we completed our final milking herd test for the season. The results arrive in a couple of days to help us make farm management decisions that will ensure we continue to produce high quality milk from our large herd of over 2350 cows in New Zealand.
