I owned a 2020 Z900RS and absolutely loved it. Such a good all-round bike. I sold it when I moved back to the uk and eventually bought a Speed Twin 1200. The Triumph is a great bike, but man, I still miss my Z900. I expect I will trade the Triumph for a Z Cafe at some point. Kawasaki really know how to make a good motorcycle.

I bought a used 2016 heritage instead of a new one. They changed them in 2018. Feels like the new ones have the floorboards up higher than the old ones. That would explain the better lean angle of the new ones. On the old heritage like mine the boards are down lower and further forward. I’m more comfortable and laid back on the old heritage than I am on a RK or touring bike. Sat on them today and immediately noticed the floorboards were much higher and my knees were up in the air. I’m 6’3 so that don’t feel good to me. So it baffles me how guys say the RK is better for bigger guys.

Hey Bert, I’m thinking of trading in my K1600 GTL for the R18; my question is how the lack of a fuel gauge on the R18 has possibly given you fuel anxiety on a longer trip, and how do you gauge that. Do you calculate total miles when you fill up ? Thanks for the update on the R18, I really love and miss that cruiser style bike.

    • @bertsbike

As a new rider looking to get my first bike, I lusted over the Z900RS, but there was no way I could purchase it, both for safety reasons (too powerful) and insurance rates. I eventually purchased a 2023 W800 as my first bike and 3 months later (7000km), I can say it was the right choice. It is a true modern retro. As I get more experience I may revisit the Z900RS, it still grabs my eye every time I walk into a dealership, it’s a beautiful bike! One things for certain, I won’t be getting rid of my W800.

I'm in the same spot as you and I'm curious about those things. If could answer each would be great! 1. Is the seat more comfortable than on the CRF300L? 2. Is the On/Off throttle more noticeable than on the CRF300L? 3. Is the bike noticeably heavier than the CRF300L? 4. How nimble is the Tenere 700?

Great questions... Honestly the seat was fine on both bikes, but I'd say the Tenere's is a little wider to me. Making it more cofortable. The on/off seems "normal" meaning both bikes are intuitive once you know it's there. I'd give the nod to the crf tho. Weight wasn't an issue for me at all. The bike feels bigger and more planted than the CRF. It has more real estate but doesn't feel heavy. Assuming you'll notice the weight once off road. I'd say it's plenty nimble. but if you're comparing it to the crf... The Tenere has way better suspension, making it feel more confident and spry. The CRF is fine but the rear shock is so soft you get that squatty feeling. Since the CRF has much less weight making easier to man handle Having ridden both the Tenere is an upgrade in almost every way.

@@bertsbike Very helpful, thank you! When you say you'd give the nod to the crf, you mean the crf is more snatchy?

@@spring9603 Less so... But it's also half the engine.
