Inflatable Hot Tub Hacks - Immersion Heater and Insulated cover
In my video I made a mistake saying the heater was 1500 degrees. It’s actually 1500 watts. I misspoke and didn’t want to shoot the video again.
This video shows how I mount and use an immersion heater with my inflatable hot tub / spa. I also added insulation / fanfold to the cover which helps retain heat as well.
I can get 4.25 degrees per hour using the immersion heater.

Nice job. I’ve used solder butt connectors before too. I’ve moved back to crimping lately. If it’s good for aerospace and military applications, I’m sure it’s good enough for my ride. I’ve seen issues with solder, so why not stick to something that works. I use heat shrink to keep elements out and expect that connection will be good until the wires rot away. I like the switch idea for the halos. Mine only has one halo ring unfortunately, so I am adding a relay to switch my halos off with turn signals. I had to grind off those same tabs on my lights (Oracle lighting) to get a proper fit, and drill a small hole in back for light vent, but otherwise, similar nice fit. Anyway nice job. Great looking mods on your car!

Figuring that you are done building Pinewood Derby cars. I noticed a few things that were wrong on your videos. Aerodynamics ARE a factor. Races are won by 1/1000th. Not noticable by the eye but timers can show a winner over a loser. Rail riders are proven to be faster. A Professional group has races in Ohio. Contestants mail their cars in. They all rail ride. BSA wheels are good yet bad as well. They are never perfectly round. You can prove this by putting a wheel on a mandrel and placing it in a drill or a lathe. Then touching it with say 240 sandpaper on a steel block. You will notice that a small area is removed at a time. Pro's lathe their wheels to be perfectly round. They also true up the inside edge as it too is not flat. They also remove plastic from the inside of the wheel as a lighter wheel spins faster. Most either drill their nail holes at 2.5 to 3 degree angles for the rear wheel so it only rides on the edge. The front wheel is about 1 degree at the opposite direction. Rear wheels ride on the edge forcing the wheels away from the body. No part touches the body. No need for Teflon...the front wheel rides towards the body but as it is the rail rider it is pushed away. But the hub can touch the body but the outside edge of the wheel never does as it is lathed so it won't touch. Again zero need for Teflon as the hub has been lathed so only a tiny part ever touches the car. Pro's usually do not use BSA wheels unless the class requires it. BSA wheels are made in 16 different molds. #3 is usually the lightest. Most have 3 wheels from the same mold. The 4th need not be lathed or polished as it does not touch the track. You can drill the hole slightly higher so the wheel is just off the track. Bending the rail riding axle allows it to be turned so it barely turns the car towards the rail. The worst thing to do is have four wheels on the track and not make sure the car tracks straight. If not done it will bounce back and forth and will never win. One can make a cat track straight by assuring the rear holes are perfectly aligned. Tough to do with that cheap tool for sawing the block. Best to get a tool that is attached using a square that allows either straight or angled holes. Many use straight holes and angled nails. That way they can find tune each wheel. Plus on a three wheeled car you want about 15 grams for the weight of the front wheel and about 70.6 grams for each side so it is perfectly aligned as per weight. So 15 front wheel 55.6-56.5 for the rear wheel and 70.6 for the rear wheel on the other side. Weight placement needs to be exact for the best results. 100th of a second might be 1/2 car...these pro cars run very low 2.9s and most BSA run near 3 seconds. That 1/10th is about 4 car lengths. A massacre!! Imagine your car losing by 4 car lengths because they fix every area to make their cars fat. Older BSA wheels were injected on the wheel and the new ones from 3 spots inside. The BSA rules do not mention anything about the inside of the wheels being sanded or ground down. Might be your local rule as they are allowed to adjust as they see fit. My area runs the basic rules. Pro's oil their wheels. Graphite is 4-5/100ths slower. Not that you need these but can now use them if you are helping others in your area to make faster cars. Bodies are now down to like 7 grams. Pine removed and replaced by Balsa inside. The Balsa keeps the car from twisting. They cover a hollowed out body with 1/16: veneer on the top. Using tape on the bottom. They are 5/16ths inch thick. The weights are 1/4" thick. And they use over 4 ounces. About 4.3 ounces. 1/3 behind the rear axle and the rest right in front. Some make bodies from 1/4" square "boards" with three ribs. They cut these from BSA kits so they are covered by the rule that says from wood supplied in the kits. They cut a 1/16" slice from the kit. Making a veneer. They angle the front and the veneer easily bends over the frame. They fill the void with Balsa for added strength. One could add veneer to the bottom having a 3/8ths inch car. They fly!!! Some take a 1/4" thick block and cut out what they don't need. These end up with 10-13 gram cars. A bit under you 1/2 ounce car. Total car with wheels and axles are under 1 ounce. Depending on the wood as some are heavier. Depends on where the cut was made on the tree. The bore of the wheel leaves quite a bit of room when axles are polished. Some molds have smaller bores. You can also groove your axles so they hold more graphite. Speed wheels are grooved. But BSA rules say nails from their kit. Many cheat and use other axles and wheels. But these axles usually have a groove for a screwdriver. Easy to spot. We sell polished axles at our race in case we catch a cheater. They can buy BSA axles or pull their car. Never had anyone walk out with their kid. If we see them at our pre race a couple days earlier we sell them the axles and let them swap right there. If we don't see graphite but the wheel turns fast we figure they have oil and require the axles removed to check. If oiled we use acetone to remove it. Dropping each wheel in a small cup. We can also use rubbing alcohol. Here is a trick! Pour 6 drops of 99% alcohol in a small cup. Add graphite and mix into a paste. Force it into the hub and let the alcohol dry. Slide the axle in!! The bore should be filled with graphite. If you have grooved axles add paste to them. Remove the excess. Allow to dry and slide them in. Cars will run a bit faster after a couple runs then get slower. If running less than 10 runs you won't have a problem. Most are not allowed to touch their cars after submission. When I was 8 the neighbor who had won told me oil and graphite so I got 3:in one and added it. It slowed my car down. He cheated to win. He just used oil...oil then graphite then the mix...my car was stolen last year. 62 years old...I raced it after fixing all the problems from the 60's. Even bought a new set of old wheels but it was still slower than my current cars. Mostly due to where the weight was. Hollowed out and filled with hot lead. Still have a scar on my ring finger from whittling that car! Boy my knife was sharp!! Reeces Pinewood Derby has a ton of videos. Plus a top Pro racer!

I tried all the other suggested fixes (cleaning, pressing buttons for 10 seconds to bypass the sensor, testing the tiny micro switches (both were good), shining an IR light at the receive sensor, and nothing worked, so I guess I'm ready to cut some wires.
