Ice Full Error - SOLVED I figured out how to bypass the sensor on portable icemakers such as Igloo

    Through trial and error, I figured out how to fix or repair or bypass the Ice Full issue on an Igloo portable ice maker. This seems to be a common problem regardless of name brand. I figured out how to bypass the sensor or eye to make the machine think the beam was always clear. Hopefully this works for you as well.

    Cutting the two wires on the right side (IR receiver) then soldering them together did the trick! Thanks for posting your video.

      Would the black LED be the IR receiver?

    • @TLChrist
      @TLChrist 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@HaloWolf102 Yes it would, and after cutting the wires, you have to solder the ones coming out of the circuit board together (NOT the ones from the sensor). This forces the signal level at the board to that of the sensor working normally (uninterrupted).

  • @FRamosteach
    @FRamosteach หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    I noticed if the sensor is still working that placing a clear plastic straw (I had to trim it about 1/2 an inch) to connect both sensors prevents the beam from being broken by ice getting stuck at the top and the machine will keep making ice until the reservoir is empty, the plastic shield will be raised slightly once the water is done. I will save the fix in this video for when the infernal sensors finally burn out. Thanks again for taking the chance and showing us how the proverbial sausage is made!

    Thanks for pointing out the sensors. I cleaned mine. A little calcium build up. I used my finger nail to scratch that off, then made sure the ice basket was out of the way of the sensors and it started to work again. The ice full light went off.

    Thanks for posting this. I was having this error. I saw the sensors and thought that it was the issue. I took a damp paper towel and buffed both of them. That worked. Makes me curious as to whether or not the sensors get oxidized over time and just need to be buffed.

    After reading everyone's comments. The fix is easy. The black sensor is the switch, the LED emitter must have failed (yellow LED). 2 wires going to the black pickup sensor switch from the black sensor, red and blue. The red is power, but that red also feeds two other reed switches, so don't cut that wire. The blue wire is the control wire for the sensor to the motherboard. All you have to do is cut the blue wire and splice it onto the power red wire. What I did was strip some insulation off the red wire, cut the blue wire, then wrap the blue wire to the red. Add some electrical tape, and done.

    • @WiggglezMr
      @WiggglezMr 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      All i did was take the blue and red from the left, splice the red into the red wire on the right, then connect the blue to blue on the right so the blue wire from the left connects to the board on the right. Worked fine, too many videos make it harder then it needs to be.

    I have the "self cleaning" Igloo which I use daily and often. As such, it requires cleaning more frequently, e.g. about once a month or so. I've noticed the ice maker will stop working if a cleaning is needed, indicated by the "ice full" button lighting up. After cleaning, it starts making ice again as usual.

    • @TurboNorm
      @TurboNorm 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's interesting. I don't think my older is advertised as having self-cleaning, but in one of the suggested "fix tips" for this issue (hold down the Select button for 10 seconds), mine seemed to enter some sort of cycling mode - maybe the unadvertised cleaning feature? Unfortunately, it didn't fix my ICE FULL problem so I think I'm at the cutting wires point.

    Wow, mine lasted 2.5 years and is now giving me the dreaded Ice Full light when it's empty. I noticed other comments about simple cutting the blue and red wires on the receive sensor side and connecting them together and it actually worked. Is that essentially the same thing that you've done electronically with your gray wire? BTW, Your unit even looks exactly like the same model I have that just died. I tried all the other suggested fixes (cleaning, pressing buttons for 10 seconds to bypass the sensor, testing the tiny micro switches (both were good), shining an IR light at the receive sensor, and nothing worked, so I guess I'm ready to cut some wires.

    The issue I had is the ice kept filling then backed up into the fingers then the rotating basket got lodged during a cycle and screwed up the timing. Or it jacked up the motor. Now it won't produce a proper cycle without me manipulating the basket properly to hit the micro switches in the right order. So frustrating. And once I get it to start a cycle it won't finish it properly, small ice or it'll drop the ice off the fingers but won't dump in the basket and start over.

    Also, be aware that you cannot use distilled water in these units.
    There are not enough impurities to sense the water flow.
    (it would bring on the add water LED)

      In my Frigidaire Nugget maker, the add water signal is triggered by the float switch located in the upper water storage reservoir. When the float drops due to lower water level, it makes a request "more water please" by sending signal to pump. A timer starts which gives pump time to respond. If the float remains in this "lowered" position for an extended period of time, and does not return to "full tank" status within the predetermined timeframe, then it triggers an "Add Water" condition. I don't know of any ice machines that determines water levels by their "impurity" content. That would take an additional and rather expensive circuit thats simply not needed in this basic logic board. But I DO like the idea... 👍🏻👍🏻 And I wouldn't use distilled anyway, not because of reasons you mentioned, but because it tastes horrible. 🤮🤮

      @@superhiway the cheap chinese ones don't have a float switch, it is a flow sensor

    *Simply press and hold the select button for 10 seconds, then release.*
    It will begin making ice. Light will still be on.
    It will not shut off by itself in this state.
    Unless the ice jams the tray, which will stop it with force.
    At which point you must unplug and do it again.
    No need to take it apart.
    Works for many tabletop ice makers.

      I should have added, “your mileage may vary”!
      I would have simply used a jumper wire at the board connector.
      Again, your mileage may vary!
      More than one way to “skin a cat”, much respect to those (you) that open it up and do something!
      I solved my ice maker problems 4 yrs ago.
      I bought a GE Profile Opal. 😁 $500 ouch!
      I had been through 3 countertop bullet machines and repaired them all several times!
      I was done with them and bought the Opal.
      Running 4yrs now, not a glitch. 👍
      Makes the “Sonic”, crunchy ice!
      Runs quiet, big basket, side tank, attractive!
      Just pull the trigger! You won’t be sorry!
      I still have an Igloo bullet ice machine I’m not using.
      “Have Screwdriver, Will Tinker!”
      Take care brother. 👍
