GAZ-66 Scale Welsh Forest Trail | Cross RC GC4 1/12 RC Crawler
It's been a long time since I've been out with one of these trucks, bar a quick jaunt in the Yorkshire hills with my Hilux and AnT R/C's fantastic Unimog (check out their channel for more awesome Cross rigs), so it was great to put that right recently. The Gaz was fun company - and an excellent excuse - for getting out there in the forest on this cold but sunny evening in Wales.

If you're after pure performance this isn't for you, but if you want impressive quality and style you'll love it. The Pathfinder is long and heavy (fairly top-heavy too), which obviously holds it back a bit at the extremes, but it's also something a bit different compared to the usual 313mm wheelbase rigs (this is 355mm). This is an impressive truck - it's heavy, with lots of metal parts, a ridiculous amount of servos and a very nice brushless motor with an unstoppable slow crawl. I filmed this trail run and also a rock-crawling vid, which will be along soon.

I'm really enjoying this little short bus... I prefer the look of straight axles to portals (more scale), and they - along with the not-huge suspension travel - mean this is more of a challenge to drive than many trucks. Not that much more, though, as it's still really impressively capable, as simple 4x4 chassis so often are. I think it's more fun to watch than an ultra-flexy portal thing, too....

I recently decided to make this a flatbed, so I took off the bed sides and tailgate. I wanted to leave the front section but it was very wobbly, so I made some small brackets from steel to brace it at the bottom. Not so much an RC car as a series of baffling design decisions, the CC-01 has not had an easy time on my bench. Despite this - or perhaps because of it? where are you based ? we lived in Newtown for 30 years and have now moved to haverfordwest . I do plastic and also r/c boats tanks and cars .
Most of these were filmed in the Black Mountains as we used to live near Brecon, but these days I'm in West Wales a little way inland from New Quay. How're you finding Haverfordwest? It's nice down that way! (my nearest rc racing club is in Carew). I'm often quite tempted by tanks as well... and boats. And planes. Anything RC, really!

Sorry for the late comment. I didn't get a notification for this one. I've just seen it on eBay which brought me here. I personally prefer the Trooper but this is another very nice looking RC from RGT/FTX, and I do like the way they're including interior, inner fenders and lights as standard now.
Ha ha no worries, sorry for the late reply! Apparently this is pretty much the chassis from the long-wheelbase Land Cruiser they did, so it's much more complex again than the Trooper. Don't think FTX will be doing this one... shame really, as it's another very impressive truck. Neither RGT or FTX seem to have the cachet to get many people over here interested at this kind of price, sadly. It's an impressive thing (insta-rust lower links aside... seriously, I took this out of the bag when I got home from filming and there was literally already surface rust on them!). Anyway, hope you're well dude, cheers!

Cheers! It's a stock truck - RGT did a version before, but this one has the brushless motor (a lovely Hobbywing Fusion unit) and some other changes.
Great video Steve, although after seeing the winch at work the archaeologist side of me was slightly disappointed because I was expecting a fully built 1/10 scale stone circle at the end! 😄

That truck is a banger - sure it's quite a TRX4 copy, but that's not necessarily bad when it's done so well. And the body is way better than Traxxas manages.

Thanks! I can't honestly comment, as I've never had the RC4WD version to compare it with. I've enjoyed this a lot, though, and for years. Plus it's significantly cheaper than the American one, which as far as I know is made in the far East anyway...
