I like your video, but I have a few things I´d like to point out...... No.8 is really a melody, not a solo, the same can also be said about no.9. Two magnificent solos are missing from this list, the organ solo in Supper´s Ready from Apocalypse in 9/8 and the keyboard solo from Robbery, Assault & Battery. A top 10 list of Tony Banks solos should include these I think.

But the "solo" in Firth Of Fifrh is in fact the same as the intro but played with synth... But I agree that song is probably the greatest one.

He used a lot of ROMpler synths on his 90s projects - We Can’t Dance, Strictly Inc and Calling All Stations. He did use a straight digital synth in the Roland JD800 but mainly he used the Korg Wavestation and the Ensoniq VFX on We Can’t Dance, both ROMplers. The sound on Way Of The World will be from one of these three synths

My fave is In the Cage followed by Down and Out. Honorable mention for There Must Be Some Other Way. Im not including essentially song-long solos like Duke’s End or The Brazilian. For it’s simplicity and tastiness, I also like In Too Deep a lot.

In a career filled with unforgettable moments, the TooT album is an embarrassment of riches in terms of Banks solos. That middle section in Mad Man Moon? Come on.

I would most definitely include The Dividing Line and There Must Be Some Other Way in my list - their last album is not their best at all, but his solos are gorgeous! I would also include Apocalypse in 9/8 and Home By the Sea! I totally agree with you on Follow You Follow Me, Dukes Travels, In The Cage, Fading Lights and some more - they are absolutely absurdly good!

No Down and Out? What???? Haha. One of the very few instances Tony went synth scale modal with such POWER. He never managed to do it live like this....HAS to be there. Overall. Banks is a genius !

Gosh, choosing a top 10 of Tony's solos is hard... Songs I would definitely added are "Entangled", "Riding the Scree", "Apocalypse in 9/8" and "Seven Stones".

I love Tonight Tonight Tonight section truly atmospheric, and a nod to Bladerunner in the video clip what else you need.

I think Fading Lights was pretty well recieved by fans when it came out, especially as there had been 5 years since invisible touch. It felt like they were reaching back to their past a little bit more than perhaps they had on the other 80s albums (Duke excepted). Then as they got older themselves the lyric took on more meaning, certainly on the 2007 and Last domino tour...

I like this very much. Tony Banks is really a fantastic keyboard player. I could mention a lot more, but this is a good list. But I would for sure put Engtangled in it. The outro is so wonderful. I never heard such great outro and it's so different compared with the rest.

Colony of Slippermen would be my No 1. The version on Three Sides Live Is phenomenal! My No 2 would be from One For The Vine. Great topic - Banks solos were pivotal to so many of the great Genesis tunes.

Love your channel! I’ve seen Phil in concert 5 times. Beginning with the Duke tour in San Diego, with Robert Plant in LA, The ABACAB tour in LA, Genesis self titled in LA, and on the tour in support of his 3rd solo album in Irvine California. Keep up the great work!!

Always thought this was a song that was designed for the US market. It was one of his go-to songs for late night and chat shows, probably because of the 3 minute duration and the ability to perform solo or with Daryl Stuermer only. The rock version is class. Surprised it wasn’t released on the reissues.

I know I’m really late to this. I saw the tour at the end of 2021 and seeing them again after years away meant so much. I held off on the CD because it didn’t offer anything new. I recently came across this unboxing video, and thought the packaging looked amazing. I found it nearly $30 off the list price, still in the shrink wrap, and grabbed it. What a nice companion to the tour, and all the merch I bought that night!!! Looks amazing on vinyl.

Hello. I’m the woman with the “Face Value” tattoo. That was picture was taken immediately after getting the tattoo. Against the advice of - everyone - I decided to drink Jack Daniel’s while being inked, so it initially looked like a bloody mess. It was my first tattoo, and, being at the top of my spine, it was pretty painful. I’ve had tattoos since then that I actually slept through, but this one hurt and I enjoyed the drink a bit too much back then. Anyway, once the tattoo healed, it looked great. In fact, Simon Collins, Dave Kerzner, and Andrea Bertorelli all think it’s pretty cool and they agree that it looks just like him. “Face Value” is my favorite record of all time, so my tattoo is deliberately square… it’s a tattoo of a record, not a portrait of Phil Collins. I always tell people that if “Face Value“ had a picture of a dog pooping under a tree on it, then I would have a big square on my back containing a dog pooping under a tree. Something I always find particularly interesting, is that when people, mostly men, see the placement of my tattoo they always bring up my romantic life. I digress. I enjoyed the video and congratulations on the cool new Phil Collins inspired tattoo that you chose! I hope you find it as delightful as I find my “Face Value” tattoo. Kind Regards

This album was so critical to me as it was the first New Phil Collins album I bought after discovering him. 1994 I was graduating from High School and going to college so all these songs take me back to a specific place and time. That being said I wish the track listing had been this instead of what we got as relistening to some of the songs on here I realize how many were really weak. Both Sides of the Story For a Friend Everyday Can't Turn Back the Years Take Me With You We Fly So Close Rad Dudeski I've Been Trying We Wait and We Wonder I've Forgotten Everything

"No Reply At All" is to me very Genesis-esque - the stuff Tony Banks plays on the piano is very banksian and with its "cross hand technique" is a little throwback to "Lamb Lies Down" (the song) (can be seen nicely in the Three Sides Live movie). I wonder if this was intentional or not. Guess it was. :)

It's very Me and Virgil esque to me.

I love this song. Good hook, sparse, different and a bit mysterious.

I never really listened to that song. Jumped it. But now when I isolated it and really listen to it I think I like it. It is naked and has a special atmosphere. And Phils voice, my god!

Phil is an old west buff and this is one of his old west songs. And yes I like this song.

You have to look at the song metaphorically. Phil is a storyteller. There are no limits to the stories one likes to tell, so why would Phil have these limitations?

This is probably the Phil solo version of Me and Virgil, where he is telling a fictional story, playing a fictional character, in a sort of countryish old west kind of way. Phil said that he never felt his songs like this hit the mark, but I don't know. I think he's a fine fictional writer and despite the fact that some of them are better than others, I generally like 'em 🤷

Scott, two weeks ago someone in the comments mentioned the live “rock” version of the song. I had never heard it but found it on TH-cam. It’s amazing. It has a killer bass drum at the beginning and two guitar solos. It still doesn’t sound like your typical Phil song (I get what you’re saying) but that is part of why I like it. Phil dabbled in different genres. Thanks to your channel for exposing me to songs (or versions of songs) I’ve never heard of!
