I don’t know why on Apple music Duke album whenever I search for it never comes with track one “ behind the lines” always starts with Duchess track 2 really annoying- I know you like to look into things…if you could find out please

I've got a copy of this album still sealed for over 5 years, can't bring myself to listen to it in full, especially if it's much like Both Sides with little if any 'real' instruments on there. Love the tracks and Phil's voice on Both Sides, it's just the pretend instrument sounds that put me off buying anymore Phil albums until the re-release 2 cd albums if late. Not listened to anything in full after Both Sides. Should I go ahead and try them!?

The 2024 version shows the greatest improvement to my ears...wow..I've bought so many versions of the Genesis catalog, I could only think to my self, "do I really need one more?". I kind of wished you'd used the 2007 Nick Davis mix version in the comparison, that's the latest version I have. At first I was rather disappointed in the vinyl boxset, but it has grown on me over time. Comparing those to the originals, I usually listen to the 2007 versions. But the CD boxset from 2007 is HORRIBLE!! I wound up selling the entire boxset and picking up the alleged best cd versions as suggested by members of the Steve Hoffman forum. Great post today, thank you. I'm retired, and the price on these is a bit too high for my budget.

I bought two of the yes albums on 45rpm ( 90125 & Yes ) and didn't realize they were on SACD as well, so I'm going to buy those moving forward because of the price 60 dollars compared to 35 dollars. Plus buying the SACD, I don't have to upgrade my equipment ( turntable / stylus ).

Glad to know I'm not the only irrationally obsessed Genesis fan out there. Despite my TH-cam name, Genesis makes up about 95% of the music I listen to.

Great review! The Acoustic Sounds release schedule YT video by Chad indicates the source and the mastering engineer for each title. I know that doesn't directly address your point abouty being documented on the package itself but it does answer your 2 questions. Keep up the intriguing content! The remainder of the identified Genesis releases are scheduled for the end of 2024 assuming the schedule holds.

After The Ordeal is a delicate, charming two sectioned track. The first part features what could be a classical melody played on piano and nylon stringed acoustic, the second electric guitar, both with sympathetic accompaniment from bass, drums and flute. But it is a track upon which the band were split and neither Tony Banks nor Peter Gabriel wanted it on the album. I think it serves as a musical counterpoint to the lengthy Battle….but despite its positioning on the album, it was not written as a coda to the Epping epic. The track resonates with the general vibe of this quintessentially English album - pastoral yet subfused with a faint but discernible melancholy running through the lyrics and gently repeating instrumental motifs until sprung open by some deft Mahavishnu-like time changes. There’s little wonder that Selling England… is such a highly-regarded and well-loved album fifty-one years after its release.

I'm so glad you have the 2lp 45rpm. It truly sounds incredible....very much like the old Bernie Grundman cut from Classic Records..but I believe the last side or 3rd side was remastered by Chris Bellman with those original CR plates. I sold my Classic Records of the Lamb and Selling because yes they sounded ok but the pressings were awful. The "clear" version you have is indeed the Nick Davis/Tony Banks remix ...now it becomes a question of the original mix vs the new one...which you can clearly tell with your soundbites. For my money the remix is the best one...but I'm not discounting the OG. Having said that??I'm not one to keep two (2) copies of anything but in this case it's truly plausible. Atlantic were given an EQ'd version. It must be your cartridge because More Fool Me sounds incredible on both with NO distortion....I'm using an Audio Technica AT440ML cartridge so check your stylus/cartridge. Not criticism...just check. I have The Lamb on order from Sonic Boom....can't wait. Regardless of stereo setup you're going to benefit from both. I'm sooo can't wait for A Trick Of The Tail and I'm so happy with the 45rpm of Selling England and Face Value series . Honestly?? I probably will go for Abacab but not Shapes. Theeeee biggest disappointment is Atlantic didn't do a 45rpm treatment of And Then There Were Three and Duke.....the remixes are great but those two TRULY need a 45rpm treatment.

1. Abacab is my most listened to album. 2. My least listened to album is Calling All Stations 3. My favorite solo album is No Jacket Required 4. I don’t really like home by the sea 5. My least favorite member is Peter Gabriel (out of the core 5) because I liked the directions his solo music and Genesis went into after he left. 6. My least favorite track is Hold On My Heart 7. I would erase calling all stations 8. I wish I could have heard Los Endos live ( I only went to the last domino tour) 9. I would have had lunch with Phil 10. I would see the TSL encore tour

Have the AP 75 45RMP versions of The Lamb and Selling England. So happy to have the original mixes in the best possible format. They aren't cheap, but they are worth it. Great video!

That Analogue Productions version was mastered by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering, from the original analog tapes. There is no other version that comes close to it. Also, the two Phil pressings they released as Atlantic 75 Series will only be pressed once. So, when Acoustic Sounds sells all their copies, that'll be it. The other Genesis albums they're doing as Atlantic 75's can be repressed down the road - not the Phil. I personally can't wait for A Trick of the Tail, and have pre-ordered 2.

I have the remastered SACD of the Analogue Productions release, and it’s just as good as the vinyl… I really appreciate your videos. They are most captivating!

As @JohnMansfield-ix9dn points out, the 2023 clear one is the Nick Davis remix, but there is no way to tell on the sleeve - the only clue being the (c) 2014 credit, which points to the last time the remix was issued on vinyl. This is pretty sneaky but they seem keen for the remixes (which I am not a fan of) to be the only versions available. They are advertising the new 2024 issues of the whole catalogue as the Nick Davis remixes at least, but it's crazy that they didn't take the opportunity to reissue the long albums as doubles - every (single) album from Foxtrot through to Duke is over 50 mins long. The Analogue Productions versions are limited pressings, so I guess they were allowed to use the original mixes for those. And I'm glad that they did! I have the AP Selling England on vinyl and SACD, and aside from a couple of instances of tape lag on the SACD, they both sound amazing.

Did you buy any of the Peter Gabriel 45's? I had "Security", but any improvement in sound quality was lost on my aging ears.

I thought that your samples clearly identified that the 45rpm 75th Anniversary version is superior. I have it and it is stunning. I think targeting the Shapes release is a great move because it has so many musical highlights. I have pre-ordered Foxtrot, Nursery Cryme and Trick but I will fold I am sure and also get Shapes and Abacab.

The clear vinyl on Rhino (2023) is the 2007 mix by Nick Davis and Tony Banks. The most recent release (Concorde, 2024) is also the 2007 mix. The original John Burns mix from 1973 sounds superb on the Analogue Productions SACD / CD disc. I’m keeping my double 45rpm vinyl unopened at the moment.

I love Phil Collins, those Atlantic Records 75th is exepensiv here in Norway also, I got Phil Collins 75th version, and the sound is very good, like your channel, Keep ut the good work

The old LP was a gatefold. BTW, listening to the clips, it's the first time that I hear Phil's drums sound a bit like Bruford on Close To The Edge.

You should buy the 2 Collins albums, "in the air tonight " is incredible! I'm waiting for "the trick...', and "shapes" and hope they will make "Duke" one day...

The 45 rpm are the original mixes.

The 45 rpm acoustic sounds are 100% analogue, the Two Phil albums are great. You need to be choosey as pricey.

So Selling England is actually my favorite Genesis album, followed directly after Trick of the Tail! I own some of their catalog on vinyl, but I own more on CD believe it or not. Definitely my personal favorite albums of theirs!!!!

What a legend! With all due respect to Nic Collins, who has truly inherited his father’s talent and did a fantastic job throughout the final Genesis tour, he will never be able to reach Chesters level of feel and originality, and that is an undeniable fact!! As a respectful gesture to Chester, Phil, Tony and Mike should have brought him in for a drum duet-intermezzo at some point during the final concerts! ~ these iconic duets/double drums performances Phil and Chester executed in some incarnation at every concert through the years, were always a very anticipated part of the gigs💪 ~ well, to late to do anything about that now🤷 Thank you for the music, Chester❣️ And thanks for this wonderful interview and upload 🙏 Liking & subscribing 👌

None of the stories are true. Phil has been asked about the story many many times and each time he says that whatever you think the song is about is wrong. He speaks openly about the anger he was feeling after splitting from his wife and how the lyrics are just a representation of that anger and sadness but there is no story to the lyric.

This is the first time I have seen someone analyze Phil Collins so intently, I don't think Phil even takes himself this seriously...lol.

3:14 I couldn't agree more. Those shorter, non-epic songs are necessary in order to make things a bit more dynamic. And in the case of "After The Ordeal" I think it's one of their most beautiful instrumental tracks.

I am so glad that you are making a video on this song! It is my favourite of all Genesis instrumentals, and I have loved it from the moment I first heard it. I am in complete agreement with you that it really serves its place as a much needed breather in between the epics The Battle of Epping Forest and The Cinema Show. I first bought Selling England in 1991, at the age of 14, and during my teenage years, this song was one of my main go-to songs for relaxing, if I was feeling tense or stressed. It is such a beautiful and relaxing piece, while still being an interesting and well-crafted composition. I feel it is such an under-rated song. I love it so much. Thank you for this great video!

I have come to the conclusion that it's Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks who are the ones who have the knack of writing the typical Genesis songs which the song Calling All Stations definitely is with the guitars and the great sounding keyboards interlinked.

You need to remember that Mike also had his own band the Mechanics to concentrate on as well. Mike and the Mechanics as it's proper/full title is.

Always liked it. Great atmosphere and melody! Got even more appreciation for it, when The Musical Box played it in the "Genesis Extravaganza" Shows.

The first half was written by Hackett, the second half by Rutherford. Along with Aisle Of Plenty it's the track for which the skip button on CD players was invented.
