2025 is 50th anniversary of Steve Hackett debut solo album “Voyage of the Acolyte” released in 1975 while still in Genesis and featuring Phil (drums and a lead vocal) and Mike (bass and co-write of last track). A brilliant album and worthy of some special treatment
Good points. Let’s hope the original multi-track tapes have been found. Steven Wilson created a pseudo-surround mix for the Premonitions box set released in October ‘23. A celebratory 50th box-set would be most welcomed in October.
My Genesis vinyl wishlist is as follows: 1. The Strictly Inc. album 2. Anthony Phillips' music after Slow Dance 3. Live Over Europe 4. Tony's Seven and Six 5. Phil's Perkins Palace show
I’d love to see a remastered edition of Smallcreep’s Day including some extras such as “Compression” and anything else that Mike and Ant had cooked up in preparation for the album.
All this stuff is pretty boring. Who cares if it's on clear vinyl or anything else? Reissue non remastered CDs. Clean up some 70s live material. I've never listened to Invisible Touch and never will.
I want all their early lost songs to be found and released. Tony Banks mentions them in the 1999 archive box. Just the thought of them has haunted me since.
Hello, a reissue of The Way We Walk, it would be great, it is my favorite concert, if I had the opportunity to travel in time and see a concert from another era, it would be that one, every time I put it on DVD I can't believe how good it is. is!!! Not only Phil, Mike and Tony, but also Daryl and Chester, what good musicians please! How I enjoy that show, I still remember when I bought The Shorts CD and it brought a piece of paper that said that The Longs would be released the following year, and I waited and bought it, I have listened to it so many times, Daril's solo at The First O Fifth is great. Greetings from Uruguay
Would love to see a 40th anniversary of No Jacket Required come out this year with the extra B sides like The Man With the Horn and I like the Way, and maybe even some live recordings from Live Aid on it as well.
Actually Scott here 2:53 where your starting to talk about the B-Sides Don’t call me Ashley and others they were not on the CDs. Phil and his team released “Other Sides” and Remixed Sides” to iTunes because they were left out of the Take a look at me now Campaign. Because No Jacket Required didn’t have “Man with the Horn” or “I like the Way” on it. It was a great set but those songs were lacking and missing. You can still pick those up.
@ yes and because all those tracks on all TALAMN campaign were missing this is why Phil and his team at the time released those Digital albums which are great in their own right.
I’m jumping ahead but as a big anniversary release, how about a super-sized box set in 2026 of Trick… (released in February ‘76) and Wind and Wuthering (released in December ‘76)? Brand new remixes (not by Nick Davis), remasters from the original tapes (not the 2007 versions) and there are some fantastic live recordings from both tours given that Seconds Out was drawn from the tours. Oh and get Steve Hackett more prominent in the mix. Given that the forthcoming The Lamb… set missed the anniversary date, there’s plenty of time to prepare a 1976 box. Here’s hoping. Regarding the live albums, how about high-res remix and remastered versions of them? Also fully extend Genesis Live to capture the full show from either Manchester or Leicester in February ‘73 from where the album tracks were drawn. And reschedule The Way We Walk to its performance running order. Invisible Touch Live at Wembley Stadium is only on dvd so a multi media release would be great. The Farm’s archive tapes will contain brilliant live performances and superb rehearsal material. But is there a band appetite for such legacy work and were The Farm’s treasures part of the Concord deal? Happy ears to everyone this coming year.
What is your issue with Nick Davis? Trick was released on the 13th February 1976, Wind and Wuthering was let out early, but the correct release date was on the 1st January 1977. There are more Multitrack recordings of Genesis live in 1976/77. The Farm archive tapes, you have confused this. Simply put: The cassettes used to monitor the live soundboard mix, then reviewed by the band/Phil, are just cassettes. These have mostly been digitalised onto a few hard drives. The rehearsal material/demo's would be on cassette but also tape. Supposedly Tony Banks got negative feedback on The Making of Mama demo, so he doesn't think that there is further interest. The whole "Steve mixed low", is rubbish. Tony cracked a joke and it didn't land. Steve and Peter, Ant and Ray were all given time to listen to the music that they feature on or wrote. So in 2006/7 they all had a say on mixes. So to revisit a band approved mix in terms of volume or loudness in the mix, would be pointless. Manchester Free Trade Hall and Leicester DMH from 1973, only really misses Suppers Ready. The Suppers Ready from the Phillips double album demo of Genesis Live, is inferior when compared to the version of Suppers Ready from The Rainbow in Oct 1973.
@@markkenyon2906 Unlike some fans, I don’t have an issue with Nick Davis’ work. The band are obviously happy with his work over many years and across different projects. I’m happy to hear his work. I should have made it clear that someone else may be able to offer fresh insights through another remix. And that, for me at least, would be very welcome as I’m sure both recordings have more that could be revealed. To merely re-release the 2007 remixes in any such anniversary celebration package would be a missed opportunity. If the Atmos and 24/96 remixes in this year’s The Lamb…. box are well received, it might bode well for future releases. Regardless of the scheduled release dates, both Trick… and Wind and Wuthering were released in 1976. As such it might make for a happy double box celebrating the year in which two albums were issued. Of course, the 1977 world tour kicked off with the three-night residency at The Rainbow, finishing in Munich in early July. The contribution today is from a very long-term fan and was uploaded in hope. Nothing more.
I’m interested in new stuff being released but not remotely interested in vinyl releases especially in different colours. ‘New’ live releases or different versions would be nice. Not sure what the Lamb boxset gives me though.
I fully agree, there are so many multi tracks of live shows in the archives. So straightforward to create 5.1 mixes on them. But nope, Vinyl... just no!
Genesis Live should definitely have Supper’s Ready restored. It is a phenomenal version from the same gig in Leicester and was only dropped as the band didn’t want the album to be a double at the time. Not sure many people would have a problem with that now and there are loads of tracks available to make up a fourth side!
@ not sure that comparing it to another performance is relevant? The point I was making is that a key track from the performance was professionally recorded and only omitted because it was too long for a single budget disc release. I was surprised Both Sides didn’t get a CD release too - quite a few of the B sides weren’t on the Both Sides CD in 2015 and a CD box with a blu ray and a Live From The Board CD would have been really cool.
Another one that could be released on vinyl is Phil's Super Biscuit from 1986, it's a great show, I have it on three vinyls in the radio press, with commercials from the time, it sounds very good and it was a great presentation
No Jacket Required... plenty of live material in the archives, a full show filmed at The Sydney Opera house in 1985. There was a tour documentary that was filmed then too. So it could be a massive boxset.
I think the reissues of the Genesis catalog are all about the rights holders. Concord and Warner now have the rights globally. There is no more Virgin/UMG involvement like there was before. So not only do they have to reissue everything elsewhere in the world through WMG, they also cannot use the Charisma name since that's owned by UMG, which was still on the labels.
I’d love some sort of remix for certain albums. Not remaster, but a full stereo remix with modern equipment for some of their albums that don’t sound as great. To me, that’d be Trespass / Cryme, and honestly Trick. I’ve never loved the production of Trick, always just feels like everything could use more punch. I'm not the slightest bit interested in vinyl releases in different colours, who really cares what color your record is, if that is the only difference between new and old releases. A nice CD box set of live recordings from 1976-1991 period would be nice. A really good live CD with highlights from all three nights of their Wembley shows on the Invisible Touch tour would be welcome. How about a Duke reissue with the six tracks of "Dukes Suite" arranged as originally planned, and an Abacab with "Who Dunnit" removed and replaced with the tracks that wound up on side four of Three Sides Live?
You can easily programme most media players to play tracks in a particular order, so your six track Duke suite is easily available. Multi coloured or coloured Vinyl is just a waste of time. Its much better to have a CD / DVD A boxset of more live recordings. Side 4 of Three Sides Live, is pretty much the Paperlate EP. Who Dunnit, was kept on Abacab at the behest of Ahmet Ertugun who was at the time the record company boss of Atlantic.
The Lamb box set should've included a full live concert on FILM as well as any TV performances and any possible music videos. Also THE LAST DOMINO? should be released on DVD, Blu-ray and 4k
Personally I’d just love to see them start reissuing the entire catalogue with proper new remasters from the original audio tapes. I abhor the remixes Nick Davis did, although I’d be fine with them if it also included the original release (Much like Yes have done with their The Yes Album and Fragile deluxe editions - original master album AND the Steven Wilson remix. So you have options.) And a question if anyone knows the answer - with the forthcoming Lamb box featuring the complete live show, did Peter once again go in and re-record vocals to replace the original show, like he did with the live Lamb on the Archive box set? Or are we actually getting real true 1974 Pete? EDIT: Oh, and let’s see those old concert videos getting some blu ray releases.
i would like to get the remastered versions made by a prog and sound expert like steven wilson. altough he so often mentioned that he is not a fan of genesis i am sure that he would make a great job. especially from trespass to duke we need better versions. but i have big hope for lamb lies down 50th release since i heard that peter and tony are involved for production process
I remember Tony speaking about the bootlegs of the band and how annoyed he was, so why did a band, who were renowned for their live gigs not release the whole show on vinyl?? Fight fire with fire I would have thought.
Whatever gets released, my only wish is that it's UNABRIDGED. The original releases have things left out and I'd like to see them completely restored as they happened, not trimmed down for formats or broadcasts. For example, the 1976 Tony Maylam concert film. There's no way that he filmed only 44 minutes.
I don't get the current infatuation with Vinyl. I was born late 60's and lived through the Vinyl age and was so happy when CD's became mainstream. I believe they tried this with "Selling England By The Pound" and it did not sell in large enough numbers, to justify further adventures with the format.
I saw Genesis on the penultimate show of the Last Domino tour and the cynic in me thought that there would be a live cd from this tour released to max the profit in time for the Xmas market but there’s been nothing ,so one can only guess thar they couldn’t find any of Phil Collins performances which were up to standard to be released . I knew he had health issues before buying the expensive concert tickets but I was shocked how poor dear Phil’s health is now and I wouldn’t have bought a ticket had I realised in advance how poor and different his vocals were going to be . Please let me add as a Genesis fan since 1973 that I take no pleasure in saying that . I followed the whole of the Last Domino tour via TH-cam and it was clear to see that Phil was seriously struggling .
Rehash re-issue of the same stuff constantly by Genesis is of zero interest to me. The only thing of any interest to me and I’m sure many others is official multi track unreleased live shows or the mythical board’ tapes.
