DIY Alloy Wheel Refurbishment
มุมมอง 515หลายเดือนก่อน
As you may have probably noticed in our previous videos, the alloy wheels on our Mercedes CLK are in a terrible state. All four of them have really bad kerb rash all around the rim and also on the spokes. With nothing to lose we thought we would have a go at refurbishing them ourselves, so armed with some sand paper and some rattle cans we set to work and can't believe how well they turned out.
Changing Track Rod Ends on a C Class Mercedes
มุมมอง 191หลายเดือนก่อน
The bushes on the track rod ends for our 2008 CLK were very worn so we set about changing them ourselves. The job was pretty easy apart from breaking the old ball joint. After both sides were done we got the tracking done at our local tyre shop and problem solved... no more knocking!

Mercedes. Flat Battery, Stuck in Park and Can't Open Bonnet!
มุมมอง 865 หลายเดือนก่อน
We came down to find a bit of a problem. We had a completely flat battery! The other snag was that the car was parked so close to the front of the garage that we couldn't open the bonnet, and we couldn't push the car back as it was stuck in park!!. Watch the amazingly quick fix to solve this problem.
Aborted Flight due to bad Visibility
มุมมอง 1815 หลายเดือนก่อน
It had been a misty morning but by lunchtime it was a beautiful warm day with blue skies, perfect for a boys bimble around Kent. The metar was advising visibility of 7-9km but within moments of taking off it became obvious that the low level visibility was a lot less than we had expected, and despite being IR(r) rated it wouldn't be much fun for a sightseeing flight. We made the quick decision ...

SOLVED! C-Class Mercedes Clicking Sound Fixed
มุมมอง 1.2K7 หลายเดือนก่อน
Our Mercedes CLK developed a clicking sound coming from somewhere under the ashtray. It wasn't the gearbox or anything to do with the wheels but did get quicker with speed. As we set about finding the cause we discovered that one of the clips securing the parking brake cable under the car had snapped and the noise was coming from the prop shaft rubbing on the cable. Watch as we solve and fix th...

May I ask - what flange/connector did you use for the hose connection? I cannot seem to source anything suitable. Similarly internally for the hose to tap connection.
Great family time. Love the tinkering with cars. You guys still flying?
Thanks yes should be a couple of flying videos going up next
I’d always dreamed of working on a car with my son, after seeing that bolt drop I’m glad I have a daughter 😂
I felt annoyed at that second bolt too
Hello, "Family Flyouts" I saw your channel and saw that in your channel have some problems, not many. For these problems your channel is not growing. If you can solve these problems, Your channel will grow like a storm. Do you want to know these problem? If you Want to know, I can only tell to you. Can I tell here or email?
Dropped the screw dont worry.. i was 8 when i filled my old mans VW Beatle with water. When i told him he congrarulated me before he realising the car was locked and the rad was under the passenger seat. 😂😂😂 Id filled the petrol tank with water😂😂😂
Oh no! bet that turned a 2 minute job into a weekender!
Love u 2.❤❤ The young fellas a legend❤❤
Thanks
Bloody good show!!!
Thanks
I absolutely agree that wearing gloves is a must, but I confess I am extremely lax in doing so myself when working with mortar/concrete. I was astonished to see what it did to your hands as its never done that to me. My skin does feel a bit weird afterwards and I have usually got no fingerprints left, but never burns as such. I guess it can affect different skin types differently.
Good job 👍
Thanks 👍
Reminds me of when id help me dad at cars..cept hed be calling me a c u nt and every name under the sun. Glad your dad treats u proper.❤❤❤
How big are those air filters?😮
Very well demonstrated❤❤❤
Thank you! Cheers!
All the best mate keep up the good work you’re doing great.
Thanks, will do!
Great job mate. Keep it up
Thanks 👍
Enjoyed this video. Reminds me of my younger days when I serviced my own cars. The oil pump is an interesting addition.
Thanks, would have been much less mess if Dad hadn't pulled the tube out!
Awhh😢
Fantastic finish! 👌🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you so much 😀
So do you suggest using a yoke mount if you are left handed? And do you use the iPad in portrait mode or landscape? Any feedback is greatly appreciated!
Hi, I have always used a yoke mount for the iPad in portrait mode. The issue is with having a knee pad to write notes on. As a lefty there is no room for my elbow if the note pad is on my left leg and i am cross armed if it is on my right leg. Using the apple pencil is a good solution once you get used to it, but obviously always have paper and pen as a backup
@@FamilyFlyouts gotcha! Thank you so much for the feedback, that is extremely helpful. I am having a hard time getting comfortable with note taking inside of the cockpit. (Struggles of living in a right handed world 😅) I am going to go with the yoke mount and Apple Pencil and hopefully that help. Thank you so much! Love the content!
Thank you! Very handy DIY video! Lovely family too. 👍🏾🙏🏾
Thank you so much 🤗
Well done, good job
Thanks
great video, it has given me the inspiration NOT to do something like that as I haven't got a clue, your a better man then me and I'm glad your hands healed up.
Thanks, apart from the cement it really was quite simple
Well done! I’ve just had mine changed on my 2012 Jag. Nearly £700! I should have come to you! 😆👍
Next time!
@@FamilyFlyouts 😆
Top job 👍
Thanks
Thank you so much for this fix you made it look very straightforward as I have just got the car and was wondering why the ski shelf was so lose and have sent for some struts can I ask do you have to leave the engine running while opening the roof half way ? Thank s
Glad it has helped, we have had no problems at all since making this fix. No you can turn the ignition off as soon as you have got the roof open as much as you need.
Omg kid, I think you just solved the problem that I have been having for months now on my C class. My car was having the same problem. I explained the sound is like you are scraping a cardboard on the blades of a fan. But I totallyunderstood your explanationof the sound and I can also confirm the sound from your video. I stupidly went and changed my wheel hub bearing thinking it was it. But just tested it and the sound is still there. I was kind of out of ideas and kept looking at the wheels. I literally just sat down. Googled around for some answers and found your video. I am going to get mine check. I have a good feeling it is the same problem like in your video.
Wow, fingers crossed for you that is the problem and a nice easy fix. It would be great if we managed to help someone with the same problem... please let us know if it solves the noise for you too.
Concrete counters are so played out. Too much time and effort to guess at the results when you can just buy big porcelin slabs that look twice as good.
Yeah its like unwrapping a big Birthday surprise and hoping you are not going to be disappointed!
Hello, great series of videos! Congrats on completing the build. It's be great to see a "1 year later" video, see how it's weathered a UK winter, how you protected it from the rain, etc? Anything you'd change or do differently after a year of use.
There is honestly nothing to show after 2 full years. I got an outdoor sofa cover custom made which I put on it in the winter, and a quick jetwash in the spring has the concrete looking like new. The paint on the cladding has been great as well but I might give it another coat before I put it away in a month or two
is there a reason to put the composite decking? also when installing everything do you eventually enclose the frame or will the bottom be exposed?
Hi, i put the decking down for a few reasons. Firstly to keep the metal frame away from the ground to prevent corrosion and aid drainage on the patio. Secondly it meant I could board and clad all the way to the bottom of the metal studs leaving about a 1 inch gap from the floor, again to prevent water damage to the wooden cladding, and thirdly it means i have "floor boards" inside the cupboards which keeps everything off of the floor.
Can you recommend a villa near Villeneuve sur lot? Planning on doing the trip in a couple of weeks
We stayed here www.lapalanque.com/
Great video, love to see how others did it as i am planning to build my own outdoor kitchen. Concrete was a disaster though haha. Needed to send vibration through it or bounce/shake the rebar to knock out the air bubbles and gaps to get the smooth finish and yes the consistency was too dry at the start. but a fantastic effort.
Thanks I did a bit of vibration but I think I was too broken by that stage to do it properly. Thanks for your comments, all good in the end!
Nothing coming up with these part numbers
Sorry this is the correct number that i used. 2096900059
You can cut cement board with a knife and snap. Saves the dust grinding in the future.
I know you can do that with plasterboard but the cement board was much tougher
Looks fantastic. I'm also looking into something like this as I own 6 Grills. New subscriber from BRANTFORD ONTARIO. Cheers 🥂
Thanks for the sub and the ind comment
Thomas looked so disappointed when you said couldn’t continue. If in doubt there’s no doubt. Better to be safe and turn back. There will always be another day.
Hey Thomas!👋
Hi thanks for the sub
Good call on that viz 👍🏻 It may have been a short flight but you got a beauty of a landing in 👌🏻
Thanks. Yes it was one of my better ones….funny how Thomas only comments on the bad ones!
@@FamilyFlyouts 😆 exactly what I thought!!
Better to be on the ground looking up, than in the air wishing you were on the ground. Good call!!
Yep Definitely. Had I been trying to get somewhere I would have been able to use my IR(r) but for a pleasure flight around kent it wouldn't have been much fun.
I am really interested to hear how your metal frame construction is holding up and how strong and load bearing this has been. Only ever seen timber used so really curious how this compares as an alternative as it appears to be the perfect material for an outdoor kitchen. Any thoughts or updates would be greatly appreciated. Great build. Thanks for sharing all of the details. Glad your hands have recovered.
I am no expert but 2 years on its as good as new. The metal is galvanised so there is no corrosion and the cement board provided lots of strength and rigidity. The metal was really easy to work with and if I were to do it again I wouldn't change a thing. After 2 years, all i need to do is repaint the cladding and maybe give the concrete another coat of sealant. Thanks for watching and the kind comments. Hands healed as good as new after a visit to the burns clinic, they used honey infused dressings which were great!
Thanks for replying and for the update. May well go this route as seems a better idea than timber. Glad you’re fully healed. Keep enjoying the BBQ and thanks for the great content.
Please can you tell me where you got the concrete forms from
Sure they were from this company. If you look on their site they have a European distributor. concretecountertopsolutions.com/collections/countertop-forms
@@FamilyFlyouts thank you, what size did you buy?
I can't remember but I am glad I had a bit to spare as I kept getting the mitre cuts the wrong way! It was the square edge counterform that I used
@@FamilyFlyouts one last question if possible. What concrete did you use for the project?
great job! do you have the material list for this?
I don’t have an itemized list but all the parts I used are in the description
@@FamilyFlyouts thanks, i had not noticed that
Great family project. I’ve watched all of it. I wondered where you purchased the steel frame for your Kitchen build please?
Thanks. I got it all from Wickes it’s metal stud, all of the hardware stores sell it.
Good to see you looking so well matey .. was a nice surprise to see your face … Stu S xxx
Thanks Stu, good to hear from you. Hope you subscribed😉
This is brilliant 👏 What software did you use to design the framework?
Thanks for watching and the kind comment. I used sketchup to flesh out the ideas from my head but no expert in it so literally was just a sketch without specific dimensions
The part number on a Google search comes up with a lower engine oil pan. The correct part number is 2096900059 and it's called a gas pressure spring as well as a gas strut for the boot separator.
It's apparent to me that these struts in my '08 CLK550 are failing. This video gives me hope that I can fix them relatively easily and inexpensively. Thanks for the short and straightforward description and repair video.
Thanks, glad we helped. I think we got the new struts from eBay for about £25 and it’s made the world of difference

Thanks for the great videos. I'm planning something very similar and now want to add a sink like yours (via hosepipe as well). Where did you get that slim sink from?
Thanks, I got it on amazon, think it was this one amzn.eu/d/6GeWEQA The tap was Ikea KALLSJÖN and came with hose attachments.
Love the video and was making something similar until I got to the counter top former, did you get it delivered from USA? Delivery price is huge
They have a european distributor www.dutchdesignbeton.com/en/shop/
Great video. We're about to start our build soon and you've convinced me to use a metal frame. Was ot 50mm or 70mm you used? Many thanks.
Great, I would love to hear how you get on. I used the 50mm
