    A few points about oil changes on my Toro 1028, purchased in late 2014 or early 2015. It has a 302cc engine. - Check the manual for your make and model for instructions. My Toro owner's manual says "1. Remove the dipstick, wipe and clean, then FULLY INSTALL the dipstick. 2. Remove the dipstick and check the oil level." This is different from the Toro instructions for the motor that "tyhuber7651" has. - I do not remove the wheel to change the oil. My 302cc engine has the same side drain as shown in the video. - I originally bought a disposable aluminum cooking pan, approx. 8"x8"x4". I poked a small hole up near the top of one side and just push the drain tube through that hole before removing the drain plug. The pan can be bent and shaped so the oil collects at the other end of the pan. The pan is supported by the tire and a short piece of 2x4 braced under the lower end. This has worked for ten years, with two or more oil changes per year. 30 oz. of fresh oil per change is cheap insurance to make sure this expensive tool keeps running. - Just saw a different oil change video where they used an angled funnel with a long neck. The top of the funnel slides under the drain tube and wedges in place while the long neck extends out beyond the tire. They place a used oil container below the end of the funnel and then remove the drain plug with a box end wrench. - Even though I've been lucky enough to not spill used oil from the flexing 8x8x4 pan before pouring it into a used oil container, I will be buying one of the long funnels and switching to that method. Tired of wiping dirty oil from the old pan, too! - Funnel search on Amazon - "Annurssy 4 Pack long neck oil funnel", four funnels for $7.59.

      @@Outdoor_Prepper Only one thing I have a concern about is parts and service availability.. With Genmax you are probably ok, but my supplier TMG Industrial warranties their (and my )unit for one year. I can't imagine they are in any position to supply replacement parts either during or after the warranty. The maker of our units (ChongDinking Corp ) in China says they will honour the warranty so I suppose if I give them the part description and the name of the unit they should be able to supply parts and I do my own work.. From the TH-cam videos of this company, they would seem to be a reputable company in business and selling generator and other small equipment all over the world since 2010. I own 10 generators (don't ask) and the only ones the seem to take warranty and service properly are Champion and of course Honda. But I sold my Honda EU6500 because I don't want to run on gas anymore (and put $1000 back in my pocket) after the purchase of my 10500 unit.

    One small space heater took it to 25% capacity. I can see why it’s recommended to have a buddy heater. I have the enclosed Genmax tri fuel as my whole house generator. I have done two test runs and it ran perfectly. I tried using propane but it wouldn’t start. I will try it again, making sure I purge the line. I was hesitant to have the propane valve open for a long time before starting it. But I will give it another try. I read that NEC does not recommend using propane with the remote. So I pushed the push start.

    • @Outdoor_Prepper
      @Outdoor_Prepper 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@steffiejoe the space heater is just a tad over 1500 watts. In fairness the meter only has 0, 25, 50, 75, 100, so it was probably less than 25 percent but that was the only real metric to measure it. I definitely think if you’re going to use a space heater with any generator that you’re better off using Mr buddy heater as they take a ton of power. I did a review on Mr buddy heater on my channel - check it out if you haven’t seen it. A generator is better used to power other things outside of a space heater. Thanks for watching!

    Very good point you make about running only minimal loads while you sleep. I have a 11kw inverter, it's a dual fuel. I have 25 lbs of propane and 35 gallons of non-eth gasoline. I estimate my run time with that at about 3 days. Not great, I'd prefer to have a week's worth of fuel. Eventually I will buy two 100lb propane tanks which will put me close to 7 days run time (a bit shy). I'd love a smaller unit to run minimal stuff while we sleep, like the furnace, fridge, and some lights. Would save a lot on fuel. But that's just not in the cards anytime soon. Luckily my hot water heater doesn't require electricity to run. Just uses a thermocoupler type thing that generates enough electricity via the pilot light to open and close a small door that allows more gas in to light.

      @@Outdoor_Prepper Thanks for the quick response - I'm not sure if I trust myself installing this ha. But this transfer box seems to be better than just having the inlet box tired to a new breaker and using the interlock kit. It's another way of doing it but then you have to make sure your 220 breaker aren't on when flipping that generator breaker.

    • @Outdoor_Prepper
      @Outdoor_Prepper 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ I think either approach is OK to either have a whole panel interlock kit or the transfer switch. The benefit to the interlock kit is if you eventually get a bigger generator, you can power everything whereas the transfer switch you will always be limited to those eight or 10 circuits.

      @@Outdoor_Prepper I have read a lot about these generators haveing a "Floating neutral" and that you can't go into your panel ? Not sure if this is true

    • @Outdoor_Prepper
      @Outdoor_Prepper 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ floating neutral is actually what you need if you’re going to connect ti the panel. Reason being is you don’t want a double ground ( one in generator and one in panel). The Genmax comes with a plug to make it a bonded neutral is you’re not hooking it up to a panel.

      @Outdoor_Prepper 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Out of the box, no, but there are some folks that I believe are trying to make aftermarket kits. I actually just picked up an open frame inverter from Genmax that is tri fuel and can run on natural gas! I will be posting a review in the next few days on my channel so stay tuned

      That’s a fair point, but you can get a small adapter to convert from a regular Edison plug to a travel trailer adapter. That’s how most people use the small Honda generators and it works perfectly fine. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!

    • @Outdoor_Prepper
      @Outdoor_Prepper 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      There is a selector knob to turn off the fuel on the front control panel. If you’re running on gasoline turn it to propane to let it starve itself of fuel. There is also a drain screw on the carburetor to drain the fuel from the carb bowl. Thanks for watching!

    All good information, it is a good thing to balance your load, but with your generator you don't have much to worry about since has a surge rating of 5000 watts, and is rated for only 3900 watts, and less on propane, the switch you have is rated for 12,500 watts, or 6,250 watts for each side, so your generator would not exceed the switches rating if all the power was sent to one side, you should try to have it more balanced if you ever go to a larger generator that is capable putting out more than 6,250 on a single phase.

    Good video. Within the last couple of days I've been seeing people posting on FB prep groups that their Buddy heaters aren't working. In one post, the person showed the BBQ tank, heater and hose. They were using a BBQ tank hose with a regulator on it they bought from amazon. You can't use those, only the ones without the regulator but with the filter to help trap any oils or water from the bigger BBQ tank. I've also added one of those non-electric wood stove fans to mine and it moves the air so much better into a room.

    a little usb fan attached to the handle of the buddy really helps to mix the heat into the room. worth it to spend the 20$ and get the filter for the big tank to keep it in tip top condition and it works with 1# tanks.

    Whatever you choose, use it and become familiar with it before you need it. Pay special attention to runtimes for fuel. I love my "Mr Buddy" heater but a 1lb can lasts maybe 4-5 hours on low so that's a lot of those expensive little cans for a few days supply. These can be run on the larger tanks with a hose but you need a filter. You can refill small cans relatively safely if you do it right, just know that there's a lot more to it than hooking everything together and filling the cans. One nice part about propane is that it stores indefinitely. One bad part is that if the tank is in cold weather you will lose some capacity and in extreme cold propane will not flow at all. You can share the fuel supply with a camp stove and even a lantern for light to make logistics simpler. Have your supply on hand well ahead of time because in a large-area utility outage one of the first things stores run out of is propane. As a stand-alone heat system these little heaters have been a game-changer an a godsend compared to other alternatives.
