Why Not Go
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 17 ต.ค. 2013
My love of 70's punk rock is a huge part of WhyNotGo and I try to tell stories that give you my perspective as a fan during that time, along with many insights and stories you may have never heard before.
The SEX PISTOLS Jan.1978 U.S. tour that killed the band. What happened?
My 2nd video on the 1978 tour, this one goes more in depth than the video I posted a year ago. If you haven't seen my personal account of this tour - I saw 3 gigs - here is the link to that video:
th-cam.com/video/4CUxQLQI8Jg/w-d-xo.html .
What can I say about this tour? It was a chaotic time in the band's life, but they still played the best rock music in the world at that time. I follow the day-to-day account of the tour as told by their tour manager, and Sid's minder, Noel Monk. If you want to know what that historic tour was like, you'll love this video!

Why is DAVID BOWIE's furniture in my small-town Florida museum?

David Bowie was a man of style and taste. He had great taste in clothing, art, and also furniture design. In this video I explain why many of his private furniture pieces ended up in the small town of Mount Dora, Florida, in the Modernism Museum. He collected furniture from a design team called Memphis Milano and these are the pieces in this museum. It's colorful, whimsical, and just like Bowie...

Do you love John Lydon, PIL, and the Sex Pistols? Then you'll love this video! I go back to the 1980's when I found out where John Lydon lived in Los Angeles. It's a story of being a fan, before the internet, when knowing where your favorite singer lived wasn't easy ...

0pposite roebuck where you were standing was terry de havilland's famous shoe and boot store "cobblers to the world" written on the shop
Thanks for watching. I don't know that store. I used to love Johnson's. So many stores are gone.
Such a ruined city now compared to back then. Kensington Market was wonderful. All black and maybe some red clothes and silver jewellery is all I recall of it. Gentrification has turned London into a diamonds in the dog shite slum.
I used to love Kensington Market too.
Great, interesting stuff - thank you
Glad you enjoyed it!
That was a very nice story to share, thanks! Footage of Paul playing is scarce to be sure.
Thanks for watching! Yes I think he once described himself as a recluse.
Are you okay😂😂😂
I like the fact that Allen was a college drop out who succeeded anyway, also he gave back to Seattle with it's own Rock & Roll Museum which is actually better than that Cleveland R&R Museum. You should visit someday for a future video.
Thanks for watching this one! Not many people are tuning in. I'd love to go someday to that museum. I bet it's great. I wish I knew more about Paul Allen when I met him. I would have asked him about his Hendrix collection, if he liked punk, what his favorite band was - that kind of thing. Thanks again and Happy New Year!
They moved the phone booth last year 😢
Interesting. Not many of the old phone boxes left. I always loved them. Thanks for watching!
Spunk is worth more than fifty dollars!
I have no idea what it's worth. Thanks for watching the video!
Im glad you mentioned the change of doorway at Seditionaries, I was having trouble reconciling my memories of going in there but with that door on the RHS. Sad to see that the Chelsea Drugstore has been blanded, it kind of set the tone for the Kings Roads tradition of non-conformity, Would be able to tug a forelock to Jagger on the way to see Westwood. And Yes Teds were a problem, for a while, the Irony shouldn’t be lost that John Lydon was after buying a pair of white brothel creepers.
Yes, the door used to be in the middle when I first went there in 1977. Too many chain stores on the Kings Road now, but I guess that has happened everywhere. Thanks for watching!
That’s such a cool bar! Thanks for going👍
I love the Warrington. I wish I lived around the corner. Thanks for watching.
Awesome video! Thank you so much for sharing this with us!!

I’m being brutally honest here you shouldn’t trust Malcolm or the journalist Caroline Coon because the siousxie, Billy and Steve aren’t from bromley.

Hi Maggie. I'm in San Francisco but I come to Lake County every year to visit friends. I love Mt.Dora. Goblin Market is a wonderful restaurant. I also love Sex Pistols, Joy Division and your channel. Have a Merry Christmas. 🎅🏻🤶🏻🧑🏻🎄
Merry Christmas to you! I love San Francisco. I used to visit there often from L.A. I don't go to Goblin much as it's pricey but very good. Thanks for liking the channel!
Sorry to hear you were treated like an outcast by your family, Maggie. Your a lovely person, cheerful ,intelligent 😊
Thank you Andrew. They were very conservative, and I was treated as an outcast. None of my siblings ever bought records or went to a rock concert, so I was very different from them and my parents didn't like it. I left home at 20, moved to London and was much happier after that.
Iam glad things worked out for you when you came to UK to start your incredible adventure with punk Rock 🧷
All the best for Christmas and New Year ,Maggie. Take care 😊x
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you Andrew! Hope you have a nice holiday season. All the best.:)
A great time for music the 70s
Thanks Maggie again for another great video 😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
Not sure if you know Maggie, but loads of stuff online about that original butcher's shop in Camden Town! I think the sign over the very top of the shop was the one used in London & then maybe shipped to the States! Can't see close enough but it looks similar & kinda original too!?
Hi Tom, You are right! I never bothered looking it up on the internet but the owner has a whole family history on it. It sounds like his father liked to play rocknroll in the butcher shop. I think it's nice that he honors his family with the name. I'll have to ask him if it's the original sign on the front. He has told me that he doesn't miss the weather but he misses English culture. It's a very good pub. His fish and chips (haddock) is excellent. Thanks again for watching.:)
Funny how after you did a previous video about following Bowie around in Europe hoping to see him, now i find it fateful that Bowies furniture has seemed to have found it's way to you to a small town in Florida.
Yes, that is a coincidence isn't it! I followed him all the way to Switzerland and his furniture ended up in my hometown. Thanks again for watching another video.
17:15 😂 he didn’t have this as his dining table with kids and the dog running around lol… it’s art, it was in storage - hence its mint condition
Yes, maybe some of it was in storage but that photo of him sitting on the dining table looks likes it's in his home and the photo was taken around the year 2000, so I think he used some of it. He really loved this furniture. Thanks for watching.:)
Hiya Maggie! The Memphis Group as I recall was named for both the city here & the ancient Egyptian city. I recall loving all the shapes, colours but thinking how uncomfortable it all looked! I do still love the accessories/ décor & the funky yet very useable kitchen stuff. How fun that you have that at your disposal! Oh that pub looks fun! TSMFS! Jet 🧡🎸🎶⚡️🤘🦋🏍 PS I recently whilst in London for my 65th became friends w/ a woman who’s grandad was John Ritchie Sr (said he was an SOB, Sid’s dad. Since Sid didn’t have kids I can’t recall if he was her uncle or cousin; must ask! Thought you’d get a kick out of that!😘
Hi Jet, thanks for watching! What an interesting story! So her mother or father would have been Sid's sibling, or half-sibling maybe. Steve Jones said recently that he met a woman while on their last tour in England who came to a show and she's his father's daughter, so a half-sister on his father's side. He had never met her before. It sounds like both of Sid's parents were not great people. That explains a lot of things in his behavior.
@ - I think she said one of her parents was Sid’s sibling but she hasn’t answered yet. She did say Sid was very sweet, funny, kind until Nancy came around. I could’ve told you that, we all hated her in NY, what a cow! Bless! J. 😘🧡
Hiya Maggie! Just popped over from your Bowie furniture video; yet to comment there as I’m a native NY’er wanted to see this 1st! He purchased 2 penthouse units & combined them in ‘99 but didn’t move there until ‘02. Alexandria was born in Aug 2000, they still lived at the Essex House on W 59th, presuming until reno’s were done. I’ve been in the Essex House apt, can’t say more (sorry!) My MaMa (gran) was born on Mott St, early 20thC, lived there for some years! McNally Jackson bookstore was in NoLita (northern little Italy) close to his apt, not GVill. My 1st B&M shop location was 1 block N of Washington SqPark but we moved to WVill in 97. The “I’m Afraid of Americans” video was shot at my closest subway station, he was running one block S directly behind my shop. Crazy synchronicities but can’t speak publicly about them, sorry again due to legalities on my project launching soon🙏🏼! Cheers! Jet 🧡🎸🎶⚡️🤘🦋🏍
Another interesting story! Thank you. I remember his apartment was very close to Little Italy, just a short walk away. I love the Greenwich Village/Washington Sq. area. It sounds like you've lead a very interesting life! When we were in NYC we stayed at the Washington Sq. Hotel and stayed in the same room - 305 - where Bob Dylan used to live. We did a video on Bob Dylan locations too. What was your shop like?
@ - Maggie, you stayed at the end of my block! I was the 1st retail shop after you turned onto MacDougal off 8th (last if walking towards 8th from hotel), below us was Electric Lady studios where we’d go to parties put on by Joey Ramone (miss him so😢). Johnny Depp & Kate Moss lived on Waverly! My shop was an occult shop but started w/ ½ vintage & antique clothing, wigs, theatrical makeup/ ½ occult, when we moved no more demand for the former so out it went! I think I saw the Dylan vid, will check! J.😘🧡
Love your Sex Pistols and Joy Division stories! You were so lucky to have lived that life!
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoy the videos.

It was a great exhibit. Thanks for watching another video!
@@WhyNotGoPlaces I agree, from what I saw. You are welcome! Thanks for posting it! I was the front man of local punk band Bizex-B (among others). Some of them usic from our three albums can be found here on TH-cam.
Wayne County & The Electric Chairs! I listened a lot to them. I still do, sometimes.
Cabaret Voltaire came from Sheffield.
Cabaret Voltaire were cool. "Nag, Nag, Nag". A friend of mine has a lot of their records.
The bass player of Wolverhampton band Neon Hearts, Paul Raven, became the bass player of Killing Joke. Simon Gallup of Lockjaw became the bass player of The Cure amd John Moss of the punk band London joined Culture Club as their drummer. The punk bands mentioned here were exceptionally good.
Yes, I met Paul Raven once in London. Nice guy. He passed away a few years ago. I loved his bass playing.
@@WhyNotGoPlaces I didn't know that. Sorry to read that. Neon Hearts were wonderful.
Eater were SO underrated! I love them. The drummer was 14.
I wish I had that Saints badge!
"I've got an uncontrollable urge" (DEVO). Top tune.
I love the Boomtown Rats!
That tape by the Bow Wow Wow, "Your Cassette Pet", is wonderful. I played it a lot. Bow Wow Wow was actually the first Adam & The Ants line up plus Annabella Luwin. Adam started a new band after those guys left him for Malcolm.
The Buzzcocks - one of the best punk bands ever!!
I love "My Sharona". The Dickies did a cover on that.
Have you ever listened to The Dictators? Proto-punk. Amazingly good. The Dickies as well. Fantastic!
I have listened to The Dictators, but I don't think I have their records. The Dickies I remember from L.A. They were good.
@@WhyNotGoPlaces I love both of those bands. The dictators first album "Go Girl Crazy" came in 1975. The Dickies version of Black Sabbath's song "Paranoid" is brilliant.
I've listened a lot to the Cramps. "Breaking Glass", Hazel O'Connor. With an appearance of bizarre artist Shrink.
"Alternative Ulster". Fantastic tune by Stiff Little Fingers.
"Ripped & Torn" is also the title of a tune by Irish punk band Radiators From Space. Phil Chevron was a member, prior to joining the Pogues. The album, "TV Tube Heart" by Radiators is fabulous. Chiswick, 1977.
Poly! I had a crush on her, and I love the band!
She was very cute. I loved her style.
@@WhyNotGoPlaces Agreed. Half Somali. I am now married to a lady from Ethiopia. We got married in Addis Ababa on January 21, 1990. Yes, I loved her style too. She was also very intelligent. John Lydon liked X-Ray Spex, Buzzcocks and Slits. And who doesn't, eh?
Ah! Londoner here! The weather looks nice there. Very cool that the telephone box is there!
Yes, it's nice here in winter. Very mild, usually about 70. The town gets busy because lots of people move here from New England and Canada during the winter. Thanks for watching!
Interesting furniture and while there were some pieces I'd like to own, I still prefer antiques. Thanks Maggie for showing us this.
Thanks for watching! It's interesting stuff. I wouldn't have thought it was Bowie's style, but he loved it.
Wonderful! Thanks for sharing! 🎉
