Hello Kristina! I'm new to your channel and I'm glad I watched your videos. You gave insights for my dilemma. I'm an old IMG (yo 2016) and done with my board certification for internal medicine in our home country. I'm about to move to US to be with my husband and it's a huge challenge. I've been tormented whether to pursue USMLE OR to give up medicine that I've worked hard for almost 12 years. Your journey gave me courage to choose family over clinical medicine. Considering my age, it will be a challenge to start a family and I must focus my energy into that goal. Just a suggestion, maybe in the future you can create a video on "other career options for IMG"... OR "aspiring mom taking the USMLE journey" since it's a big challenge for us women to start a family and be on a very demanding career at the same time. Thank you Kristina for sharing a wholesome video.❤

Thank you so much for the advice. I am now in junior year of medical school, planning to go to US in the future. Actually I'm quite lonely following this path, got no support or company when having this dream. Sometimes I ask my self, "Why not staying in Taiwan? It will be less challenging and maybe I can get into dermatology or plastic surgery program because of my outstanding academic performance ." Gradually I realize that fears and loneliness should not be the excuse that stop everyone from pursuing dreams. I hope that everybody here, whether you're non-US IMG considering working oversea like me, can stick to your life goals and keep working on.

The Pharmacy department preceptors also prey on their students. They overwork/ treat students unfairly, make students as replacements for their techs while their techs have a vacation at work, & not teach students anything b/c they don’t want students surpassing them. If you’re good looking & have male preceptor then best believe if you’re not kissing his ass then he’ll set you up for failure 🙄 I’m glad you spoke up about this and raising awareness. The cycle of bullying in healthcare needs to STOP and bullies need to be held accountable

Just wanna say thank you, Kristina! I'm sure it has not been an easy decision for you to make but I admire your courage for making the decision you made and for sharing it with your audience. I have been following your (and others) IMG journey as I was hopeful to follow the same path. I am not med graduate nor have I started, but I have been stuck at a crossroad whether to take the leap of faith to apply since, like you, I am interested in medicine and learning about the human body but I am also aware of some of the commitments and sacrifices that doctors have to make as a clinician. As a nurse in the US, on the other hand, I am already at a comfortable position in life, the most comfortable my life has ever been in in fact, so it is not easy to leave the comfort behind, but it is not what I see as my life goal at this time. I could not see myself working as a nurse until I retire, but being a nurse has afforded me the time to spend with my loved ones, the wealth to give back to them and also to travel, just not the self-satisfaction I guess. I want to do something else but I am not entirely sure it is medicine that I want to do for the rest of my life. Thanks again Kristina. I will continue to follow your journey and hopefully I will get some enlightenment on mine. 😊

Hi, I feel like if you have a doctor in your family it makes a difference if your family or someone you know can support you. I went to a US MD school but didn’t get to finish residency. Can you please talk about burn out and because I face that and also a lot of bullying because I am a person of color and an immigrant. Thank you.

Yes I’m from kentucky, I went to West Virginia for residency and I was bullied by other co residents and it significantly impacted my training. Basically those people took my patients away from me. I think I will talk about my story also because I was not learning anything and I was also not getting trained probably. Aka complete waste of time of my life. Kristina please reach out if you want to talk and connect because I want to explore this topic more.

I honestly think you will do well in match, once you are done with the steps. My scores were not stellar, my step 1 was 224, my step 2 ck is 213. I finished my step 3. But I didn’t let that stop me from applying and trying. I did not match in my first cycle and I know failure. I was numbed. It was dark. 2nd match- I matched in preliminary position. Even then I was stressed out and I cried so many times. But i get you. I have friends who did not continue ans they look more happy. Usmle and matching can really eat out the joy out of you.
