Playing (mostly) older games
My name is Leysa and I am a lifelong PC gamer. My love affair with PC gaming began in 1984 with Adventures in Math on the IBM PCjr, and continued through the 80s (Who remembers Zork?!), 90s (Sierra omg), 00s(MMORGPs), 10s (more MMORPGs) to now!
I did what many people have done and fell into the MMORPG rabbit hole. I began Everquest in 2000, briefly tried Shadowbane, moved to World of Warcraft in 2004 and continued almost non-stop until early 2022. When I left WoW, I felt very adrift. I was losing part of my identity as the months ticked by without playing any games at all.
At the suggestion from my partner and a friend, I picked a game and began recording it and uploading it to TH-cam. Never did I think that I would come so far so fast (at least, that's how it feels to me), and I'm having a great time! I can't wait to continue exploring and playing my games library.

Baldur's Gate 3 Episode 58 Blind Playthrough - Who's The Prettiest Kitty? I Am!
Hi, Leysa! Sorry I never make it to the livestreams, I don't have Twitch or whatever it is that you livestream on so I have no choice but to wait for the videos to drop on TH-cam 😭
Hi, Leysa! I hope you're well. Just commenting for the algorithm 🙂
Hi Carl! Thanks! I appreciate you doing that :)
It has been too many years since I played WoW. I didn't care for Raids but when I did them I played healer and only did them with the same people. I prefered healer class in DAoC in pvp/ realm vs realm. Being a target and keeping your group / friends / guild alive was always fun. Pugs in mmo's was always bad from my experience.
I liked raiding with the same group of folks, but once server moves and guild implosions happened, raiding died for me. I don't even attempt LFR, it's such a bad taste in the mouth kind of experience. I've always gravitated to healers. I was a druid in EQ and healed in raids soooo much and had a blast doing it. I'm not a fan of pugs but it is what it is at this point. If I had a solid group of guildies or friends, man, I'd be playing so much lol. I do miss that aspect of the game.
When you reach level 100 in each Magic skill, there will be a special mission that is given to you by the trainer of that skill in the College.
Are they long missions? What's the end result (since I'll probably never find out lol)?
@@leysaplays They are sort of middle long. Kind of like the final mission you do for each city in the Thieves Guild. Maybe a little more. I was wrong. You only need level 90 in each of the Magic areas to get the quests. When you complete them, they open the "Master Spells" for that magic skill. Honestly, most of the master spells are not so good. They take a long time to cast. The Destruction master spells are fun, but you can't use them unless you don't have followers, or you have the Black Book perk that protects them from you.
I need ppl other than my flat mates to play civ 6 with, do you wanna play together !
I know how you feel! I've never played a strategy game with others before, I can't imagine lol. Only MMOs.
When you are getting hit by dragon breath or any kind of spell, GET. OUT. OF. THE. WAY!!!! You just stand there and take it over and over. That is not what you are meant to do. Never ever.
I know, it feels so hard to get out of the way, almost like strafing is slower than walking. It's hard to explain.
@@leysaplays Do you use a keyboard to play?
Poison only shows up in your Active Effects if it is a poison with a lingering effect. Most of the time, the poison just does immediate damage, so it won't be in your effects.
Oh right, yea that makes sense. Good point!
Hi, Leysa! I've never played WOW so this is my first time seeing the game in action. It seems very chaotic but it looks like fun too!
Hi Carl! I am a poor first introduction to WoW lol, especially after being away so long. It is very chaotic yes, but that's just because of these events. It can be very sedate and relaxing too :)
Well, here goes lol: Q: 3:04 "What's the point of putting a farm here when, apparently, it's not giving me the production or the food?" [asked again in 12:48] A: Even if a population is not currently working on a farm tile, just the existence of a farm tile gives you 0.5 Housing. So when you have a bunch of them on your land, they increase the overall max capacity of your population. • Q: 4:49 "What's this '1' indicating?" A: Anytime you see a little white flag (next to a unit's icon) with a little number in it, that number is how many promotions that unit currently has. • Q: 6:03 "It seems like I couldn't create a park; like nothing on my continent was valid to create a park." A: A national park requires 4 tiles total to build, with all the tiles touching each other (in the form of a diamond), and all of them requiring an appeal of Charming or higher. Huge side note: The only real point to building a national park is if you're working towards a Culture Victory. (I can't exactly remember if you were going for one, but if you weren't, then making one isn't really worth it). • Q: 13:49 "'You can select a Naturalist to reveal any valid locations on the map.' How?" A: When you select the Naturalist unit, any tiles that allow you put a national park on them will glow a bright white (it will be obvious). None appeared on the map because there were no valid locations anywhere lol. • Q: 14:57 [Not a question] "Let's have him move here, and he can sleep." A: You can actually delete units you have no use for by selecting them, going to the bottom right corner where their HUD element is, and clicking on the Skull Icon. (If it's not showing, there's a tab extender with a "+" symbol to show all unit options). • Q: 17:37 "I would've thought that that [Industrial Zone] would have benefitted from these [resource tiles]. Why isn't it?" A: You don't have any mines working on those resource tiles, which is why the UI isn't saying that you'll get adjacency bonuses from placing an Industrial Zone next to them. (Note that you can still place one down, early, and then put down the necessary tile improvements/districts next to it later on to get the adjacency bonuses later). • Q: 21:43 "I have 47 technologies [researched] and he [Trajan] has 48. So how come this [Science Victory icon] isn't filling up?" A: What fills up the Victory icons are your progress towards said victories. A Science Victory is actually determined by completing specific milestones; 3 for the base game's ruleset, and 6 for the ruleset with all the DLC's included. For the base game, you need to launch a satellite, then land a human on the moon, and then finally establish a colony on mars. As you complete these milestones, then the Victory icon's progress meter will start to go up. • Q: 25:06 "What's the point [of combining units together] there's not a promotion you can do?" A: Even if you have lone units that currently have no promotions, it's still beneficial to combine them for a few reasons, most notable of which is if you're going for a Culture Victory, and are lacking in military power. Corps or Fleets (two units combined) gives +10 combat strength to them, while Armies or Armadas (3 units combined) gives +17 combat strength to them. So if you have units from earlier ages, you can essentially combine them together to have them become just as strong as a single unit from a future age. • Q: 25:45 [Not a question] "I kind of like having some [combat units] spread out, 'cause you never know where those darn barbarians are gonna pop up." A: Something that might interest you for future runs is the "Barbarian Clans" mode. It's a gamemode which you can enable prior to starting a new game, which makes barbarians a lot more fleshed out. You can pay them off to leave you alone, eventually turning them into city states if not destroyed early on. This definitely keeps them a much more interesting mechanic in my opinion, as opposed to just killing them all the time in vanilla :) • Q: 32:20 "I'm not understanding spies. I think that's going to take a while for me to really understand." A: Spies are a unique unit that allow you to steal resources from other Civs to help boost your own victory (i.e. stealing tech boosts from another Civ to use for your own Science Victory, or stealing great works of art to use in your own art museums for a Culture Victory). There's more way more nuance to spies than this, but that's their general purpose. (They're also capable of really funny stuff like sabotaging structures such as dams to cause floods in other Civs lol). • Q: 44:41 "What is 'Theming'?" A: You hovered over the tooltip that explains it. Basically, in a museum, when you put 3 great works of the same type, but from different artists, you gain more culture and tourism than if you were to just put 3 great works from the same artist together, or 3 great works of different types together. It's a bonus that incentivizes recruiting more great people to diversify in your great works. • Q: 50:24 "How come it [tile] has this little flask? I don't see anything else [tiles] with this little flask?" A: The Aluminum is what's generating the 1 Science (flask icon). • Q: 1:03:57 "What? I was in the middle of the ocean." A: Barbarians can still capture units via sea. • Q: 1:04:34 "My settler was captured? What settler? Where? What barbarians?" A: When you clicked on the notification, the game automatically reoriented your camera to where the activity last took place. You couldn't see the settler or the barbarian because they were covered up via fog of war. • Q: 1:13:58 "I still haven't seen anything about railroads." A: You need Military Engineers to build railroads, and you can unlock them through the tech tree. You can also unlock railroads as a building option in the tech tree via Steam Power. • Q: 1:18:29 "Still mystified as to why I can't get a trade route to go across the ocean." A: Your trader needs to be first stationed in a city connected to a harbor in order to establish a route via the ocean. If you are trying to trade with another Civ via the ocean, both your city and the other Civ's city need to have a harbor. Hope this helps! :)
Hey, Leysa! Sorry to hear about your back, but I'm glad that you're doing better. :) By the way, any character can do the Dawnguard (and Dragonborn) DLC quest lines. 1:20 - There is generally a necromancer around that Serpent Stone. They do respawn. 2:10 - Shadowmere (like the unicorn) are immortal and will agro against any nearby bad guys (for better or worse). 🐴 Well done with those bandits! Sometimes one can find bandits fighting with draughr, bears, mages, etc., randomly in the wild. There are also TH-cam channels that only show NPCs moving about a city which are great for background music while working. 6:12 - I'm sure you've seen goblins before! Maybe in WoW? ;-) They are not common in Skyrim - in fact, this Gromm's Pass location and items (like the steel-blue entomola's) are part of a creation club addition in the Anniversary edition. In my case, I don't recall ever coming to this location. I'll try to visit next time. 16:25 - If you are curious what the steel-blue entamola's do, you can eat one. 17:55 - I'm guessing that goblin was hacking away at that ore for a while. This could explain why there was no ore left. 19:00 - There are other, smaller beings who are not quite human size who qualify as "pets", not "followers" (there are others). So, yeah... it seems he'll stay with you and Janessa. Speaking of the Dawnguard quests, if you, Janessa, and Gogh decide to start that one, you could add Serana to the mix, too. So, you, Serana, Janessa, Gogh, and Shadowmere can all stay together and run around creating havoc! 22:42 - If you dismiss him, you would either have the chance to tell him which home to visit, or he will likely return to the cave where you found him. 24:09 - Modding for the design? For me, it's not a big deal one way or the other. I have always found the storyline, lore, quests, and character abilities are the main part of the game. On a side note, some used an AI to rebuild the major Skyrim towns. Stunning videos. Check for "Leo Torres" on TH-cam for these. 27:08 - Dwemer ruins aren't always super big. ;) And yes, some quests can be this short. Some others may seem short but are not. 30:40 - WOW! So, Gogh can summon storm atronachs! 🌩 Sounds like he might be a keeper. 32:03 - Well done with the skeletons! It looks like you picked up a strong follower and are clearing out your quest queue in this episode. 36:22 - By the way, those "cultists" were sent by Miraak. 47:22 - The Gaulder Amulet quests are in different places and involves quite a few quests. That may be one dedicated episode, if you want to. 49:13 - Ahh!! So, you still have the Skeleton Key, eh? 1:06:22 - Not sure about what happened with that puzzle there. 1:08:10 - If you inspect the claw (open it in your inventory and check it), you should be able to open that locked door. Congrats on getting the new follower! 👏 Take care!
Hi, Leysa! I'm glad to hear the physiotherapy is working. When I was recovering from a shattered ankle, I grew to hate my physiotherapist because I have zero tolerance to pain lol 😅
Hi Carl! I'm glad it's working too! This is my 3rd instance of PT in my life and each time has done amazing things for my recoveries. I appreciate it, but yea, it's not exactly fun. I'm sorry yours was so painful :( I hope everything worked out for you <3
Yes, now you moved over to a much longer quest. Note that one of the amulet pieces in in Saarthal. To get in there, Leysa needs to follow in Kyrkii's footsteps and play the first two quests in College of Winterhold questline.
Oooof, ouch. Well. Forewarned is forearmed, I suppose ;) Thank you for the head's up!
I think the reason the Cultist Mask had the little marking next to it in the menu is that it might be the piece of Heavy Armor headgear with the highest armor value that you have? If you wear Light headgear and you haven't picked up any Heavy, the mask would be the 'best' in that category, according to the game.
Ohh, yea, fair. I kinda wish you could somehow indicate an armor preference so it wouldn't suggest things, but I guess that goes down the "picking a class" route they were trying to avoid.
I would have no problems watching you do a modded playthrough
Thank you for the feedback and answering my question! :)
This Casival guy was actually Gathers-the-Coin! Before I found him, I for sure thought the writer of the Crimson Dirks books was an Argonian (with a name like that). Some of these Alternative Armors quests are quite lame, and there are 15(!) of them. But I do like the whole storyline about the Crimson Dirks. I owned seven of those 15 Alternative Armors "creations" from earlier. Once I had the full Anniversary Edition, I made it my own quest to find all the Crimson Dirks books (there are nine), plus other readables related to them. (I needed help to find two of the quests in the end). Once I knew the full story, the final showdown with Tyra Blood-Fire on that playthrough felt a lot more poignant - and kind of sad.
I'll be honest - 95% of this went over my head :) But! I love your enthusiasm, knowledge and passion, and willingness to share! <3
The puzzle that "didn't work" at the end, you are supposed to imagine was already solved before. They dead adventurers came before you, and they used that puzzle to open that gate. (You found the claw on the dead guy past that gate.) I guess they made it so you could not reclose it in case you didn't get that, because it is not very clear.
The blue mushrooms can be planted at your farm or in any fertile soil.
Good to know!
Ahh, that makes sense. I wasn't looking at it from that perspective.
You have opened dragon claw doors before. Remember how you did it.They are all the same.
"Remember" being the key word. Dangit. The one thing/place I didn't look. I feel stupid.
@@leysaplays Sometimes you get the game, sometimes the game gets you.
Hi, Leysa! I'm not sure if you already know this or not but it's been 13 years to the day since Skyrim was released. Happy birthday, Skyrim! I'm not sure what happens if you dismiss Gogh since I'm assuming he's part of the added content that I don't have access to, but if he follows the rules of other followers he should go back to the cave where you first discovered him. Don't forget the clues as to how to open the claw doors are on the claw itself. Just select it from your inventory and examine it.
Hi Carl! 👋 I did not know that! Thanks for letting me know. How cool I happened to choose today for a Skyrim video release 😃 Happy birthday Skyrim, indeed! Sigh. That didn't pop in there, obviously. It's been a while since I had a claw thing, but that's still embarrassing 🤦♀️Thank you for the hint 😅
As far as adding Mods....I dont think it needs many visual ones. I don't want to see Skyrim full of super models. Maybe ones that give different animations? Or extra dialogue? Up to you really. Although sometimes adding Mods causes misc glitches.
I would just like nicer textures, make the graphics crisper, a little brighter and smoother and such. Not totally replace things with new graphics.
Yup, Gogh is a bonus companion. From a Mod, i would guess that over writes the normal one companion rule.
Do you know what happens with him if you dismiss him?
@@leysaplays Nope. I assume he would return to where ever you found him like most Companions.
@@leysaplays He actually counts as a "pet." You can have one follower and one pet. A "pet follower" can be a dog. In the Dawnguard you can get a husky dog or a pet frost troll. You can also get a Riekling follower.
@@leysaplays He goes back to Gromm's Pass.
I like how you flicked those mushrooms out of that bucket.
Ha, really? It was *totally* intentional and impressive then 😉😄
Goblins are small, quick moving targets, i guess.
True, but he was just right in front of me stationary and I wasn't hitting him. Grrrr.
The player home in Solitude is Proudspire Manor, next to the Bard's College.
Hmmm, I barely remember the Bard's College. It's been a looong time since my Solitude exploration video. Maybe I should look at doing Bard College stuff soon, get me back over in that area of town :)
There is a spell that helps a lot with finding corpses: Detect Dead. You don't have it yet and it's pretty rare. According to the wiki, Tolfdir at the College can sell it when you have reached skill 70 in Alteration. Moss Mother Cavern (in Falkreath hold) is also a pretty place, but it's like a smaller imitation of Shadowgreen Cavern, and without a pillar mountain in the middle.
Yesss, I definitely need the detect dead spell! I keep forgetting spells exist, ha, dangit. I'm so facepalm-y. I think I stumbled across Moss Mother cave, weren't there some hunters in there? And I got a dagger with like +25% crit to animals or something? It was pretty :)
@@leysaplays Yes, Valdr is outside and wounded, his two hunter friends Niels and Ari died in there.. There is a small objective to clear out the cave. You can choose if you want to do it by yourself or have Valdr alongside you.
If you already carry a bottle of Honningbrew Mead when you meet such Revelers, you'll have one more dialogue option. :)
I'm too thorough - any time I stop by Hendraheim I empty my bag of all the detritus lol and mead counts as detritus. I think it will have to be a very happy coincidence for me to have Honningbrew Mead on my person when I stumble across this encounter :D
@@leysaplays Well, I recommend you keep one, try it out and see what happens.
The platform with Rundi's dagger has some exploding Frost Runes on it. Rundi's Dagger (along with Borvir's Dagger, Yisra's Necklace and Ilas-Tei's Ring) is part of an unfinished quest about missing College apprentices. Phinis Gestor at the College has some dialogue about this. The mod Cutting Room Floor restores this quest (one of its best features, I think).
Missing College apprentices sounds vaguely familiar, but not sure that I have a quest for it. Maybe my mage character does though. Why would a mod be needed to "restore" the quest? Why would it need restored? If you pick up and sell all these items before you have the quest, maybe?
@@leysaplays Well, to bring closure, so the College knows what happened to them. All the resources in the game are there (including Phinis' dialogue when you complete it, something you can't see unmodded) except the quest framework itself.
Your voice is lovely .. ❣️❣️
Thanks 😊
Cast Fury on the enemy furthest away, and the others turn their backs to you.
I would, if I'd remember ;) That's ever the challenge...
I really hope you try out Fury. It's useful when you have multiple enemies. You can cast it at a distance, and they will fight each other. It says that it makes the affected person or creature attack, but really it makes everyone attack the affected creature.
I'm sorry to report that I don't make a great mage. Per usual lol.
Here is something that the game does not explain very well. ALL damage that is not from blunt force is considered "magic" damage. Any fire is magic. Any poison is magic. The steam breath from the Dwarven Centennial is magic. Armor and your armor rating has nothing to do with magic damage (unless your armor has magic resist). When a mage is shooting lightning at you, your armor does nothing. You can have magic resist up to a max of 80%. You can get this through the agent of Mara quest, some of the standing stones boost your resist. Or you can have enchantments on rings, necklaces, and apparel. You can also use potions to have temporary resistance. On top of magic resist, you can have elemental resist up to 85% on Fire, Ice, or Lightning. Same rules apply as magic resist. Since armor does not matter, you can enchant some hats, and shoes, and rings and necklaces, because these weigh less. When the dragon shows up, put on your magic/fire resist gear. Drink a potion.
Also, your follower cannot die unless you kill them, and you have the perk from the Black Book that your attacks don't hurt your follower, so your follower cannot die at all now.
Hmmm. This harkens back to when I first installed SkyUI. I think it can allow you to designate equipment "outfits" and you can swap your items with the click of a button. I never really dug into the feature and just powered through stuff with healing potions. Sounds like I should give it another look. Having a resist suit sounds advantageous.
Ha, yes, that Black Book benefit has saved both Lydia and Jenassa's lives no doubt!
The locations on the map that are black are places you have heard about or read about in a book. The locations that are colored in white are places you have discovered and can fast travel to.
Ah ha! Maybe I've been told this before, but I'm over 40, I probably forgot if so lol. Thank you for answering this little question :) They often get overlooked but I love getting answers on them!
If you don't already know, the quests that don't appear when you select them are because they are on Solstheim. The Solstheim quests only work on Solsteim, and vice versa.
I don't think I did know, thank you for pointing that out Joe :)
Investigate every single waterfall in every video game always. Look behind it. Look under it and around the base. And look around the top, too, if you can.
I try to remember to :) It's such a trope, you're right, and one I love lol.
Well done! I'm glad your back is doing better. :) 3:33 - Rundi's Dagger? Honestly, I don't think I know that one. There are many named weapons and items that aren't special or part of any quest. I think the damage came from that platform where you found the dagger. 5:28 - The nice thing about Shadowmere (and the unicorn) is that they are immortal and won't fight against you. They will occupy bears, trolls, even dragons. A great companion for archers and spell casters. 8:20 - I don't recall whether "Leysa" successfully framed Brand-Shei in the beginning when starting the Thieves Guild, but I'm assuming not. 9:35 - The map is large, but you can only go so far. At some point, you will be told you can't go any further in the direction you're going. 12:22 - Honestly? Seeing a Riften guard fight an Imperial soldier in a town like that? This is a first for me, too. Very strange no other guards are coming in to help, or others are not getting involved. Maybe a bar fight? I wonder if they'll still be fighting next time you return to Riften. 14:42 - I don't recall if "Leysa" has done the Thalmor Embassy quest. If so, she was at a big gala there. Note that if you walk by any forts with bad guys, they'll normally attack you if you get too close. 19:10 - Clairvoyance can get confused if one has multiple quests. 23:05 - I might see if I can find some of that mead this weekend... 27:40 - Glad you like that big cavern! There are many different designs within the game. 28:40 - The "nature creatures".... spriggans? 30:15 - To catch butterflies, one can hit them with a sword then pick up the wings from the ground. I wonder if you could shoot one with a arrow and it'll work the same? 32:10 - That was one of those rare northern flying bears! :) 42:06 - Wow! You've been picking up a bunch of alchemy ingredients. Time to do more crafting? 46:31 - Miraak doesn't take all those dragon souls, but he does take a high percentage of them. Once he starts, I find it's best to go thru the Dragonborn quests and get rid of him, ASAP. 47:37 - Well done to bring that old guy his helmet! Yes, he taught you a level of Sneak. 48:28 - Yes, there is a nice, big house you can buy in Solitude. Talk to the Jarl or the steward to learn more. In 2011, that house was available for $25k. It still is today. It's too bad actual real estate doesn't work like that. Glad you're having fun with it! Take care! Steve
Thanks Steve! Baby steps :) And of course, I did outdoor work yesterday and that's set me back a smidge. Something you don't know?! Impossible! :D j/k ;) It is neat for you to see things in my videos that you might not have seen in your playthroughs though! No, Leysa got caught and broke out of jail lol, Brand-Shei caught her red-handed! The guard thing apparently is from me giving Riften to the Imperials during the moot at the Greybeards. I completely forgot about that bungle! It was still shocking to see. I didn't know if I should join in or not lol, and sided with caution. Yes! Spriggans! Terrible, awful creatures! I buried the memory of their name ;) Hmmm, yes, I am quite loaded with alchemical ingredients. I bet I could epic Alchemy at least twice over... Yea...Miraak...grrrrr. I want him gone but not enough that I'm ready to return to Solstheim and Dwemer ruin nonsense lol ;)
I think you have done theThalmor Embassy quest,so you might not be one of their favorite people right now, hence the near instant agro.
You are correct, I have! I didn't think they'd remember or recognize me lol. Figured once you move on, that's in the past and heck, do they even KNOW for SURE that the person running around on a horse was the same person that infiltrated the place? How would they know? Hmmm.
@@leysaplays Or they could just be dicks who attack any non-thalmor.
Hi, Leysa! I don't know when you recorded this but I hope your back is ok now. Yeah, Shadowmere is a great horse, but I still find Arvak is more useful since he's both summonable and immortal (unfortunately you can only find Arvak if you do the Dawnguard DLC though). The Imperial soldier and the Riften guard were fighting because even though control of Riften was handed over to the Imperials as part of the Season Unending quest (the meeting you had at High Hrothgar where you arranged a ceasefire in the Civil War) the guards are still scripted to be loyal to the Stormcloaks.
Hi Carl! My back is finally getting better, physical therapy is amazing :) Dangit! Well...maybe we'll save Arvak for the mage, since she's on the Dawnguard questline :) Though...she has the unicorn too...but summonable sounds superior! Oh shoot! I totally forgot that I did that at the Council thing with the Highbeards! I regret that so much now :(
I love your Series! I hope you keep playing Civ! 😀
Thanks for watching Benny! I am sure I will :) I got hooked back into WoW for the 20th anniversary events, so that's taking up most of my time right now. I'm a Civ girlie and know I'll be back though!
Crops/Armies are weaker than how the previous older Civ games worked with unit stacking. If you want to have a military you'll have to flood the tiles with units and combining them into corps/armies is very much worth it. One tip about combining them is the unit promotions will combine as well. So if you have one unit with Promotion A and another with Promotion B then when you combine them into a corps the single unit will have both Promotion A and Promotion B.
So if two units both have Promotion A, it's best to not combine them, and instead try to wait and combine with same units with different Promotions?
@@leysaplays correct. Ideally you combine them with units that no promotion or ones with different promotions.
So the city-state panel that displays all the city-states in a list: -The number of Envoys required to be the suzerain of the city-state is small number on the right end of each city-state entry in the list (it will be to the top right of either You or Trajan in this game). The default number to become suzerain of a city-state is 3 envoys and it goes up based on the number from other civilizations. If they have 3 in the city-state I believe you'll need 2 more than them so you'll need 5. You always have to have the largest amount there by 2. -The 1/3/6 icons you see to the right of the city-state's name in the list are small bonuses you get from city states of that particular type and they stack. Hover over any of them and it will show you that at rank 1 it gives the Cap. some kind of yield and a yield to the building associated with that city-state. For example, a Scientific city-state will give the Cap. and all Libraries in your empire +1 Science (iirc). The 2nd rank will give science to all Universities and the 3rd rank to all Research Labs. This works differently for different city-state types so a Religious would give you faith and deal with buildings in the Holy Site district and so on. These bonuses are called "city-state type bonuses" and you will always get them if you have 1/3/6 Envoys in any city-state regardless of if you are the Suzerain or not. -After you hit "confirm placement" you will see the 1/3/6 type bonuses highlighted.
Thank you Stormywaters! Next time I play I'm going to review this window with your comments in mind :)
@leysaplays - I'm going back and watching some of your let's play videos for this game and I am curious as to why you stopped so abruptly? It's crazy that I didn't notice this game; too focused on the Elder Scrolls content, I think. I started playing this game myself recently and am blown away at the RPG depth! It's like a simpler version of BG3.
Hi Joseph :) I stopped so abruptly for a couple reasons. At the time I think I had DAO, Skyrim and one other game I was playing and uploading. DAO took twice as long to edit as the others because the combat music is soooo unbalanced. It's *extremely* loud and can't be adjusted in the game. So when I was editing, not only was I editing my voice track (mouth noises, blowing nose, that kind of stuff), I was also editing the combat music to reduce it to be more inline with the other game sound. So an hour long video would take 2-2.5 hours to edit instead of 1-1.5 hours. All that extra time and work, for like, a dozen views. I know I've said that I don't do this for the views, but dang, that was hurting. Second reason is because by this episode, I had done everything I'd ever done in past playthroughs. I asked viewers how much longer the game could be, and I checked online as well, and it was only like half-way. Just the daunting workload ahead of me, for virtually no views, only a couple people watching and commenting, crushed me. I said I'd finish the game offline but yea...that didn't happen. I haven't touched it since this episode. I still think about finishing it. Not sure if I'd record it. This episode I tried new sound settings and it sort of helped the combat music problem a little bit, not quite to my standard though. I don't know...
Finally got some time to catch up on these Civ videos lol. I'll consolidate my advice to some general points instead of timestamping everything this time. The most important bit of advice I can give at this point (and honestly if this is the only advice you take away from this that's fine because it really is that important) is this: -Settle more cities. Like a lot more. I think in the previous video you stated there wasn't any other good places for cities when in fact there were upwards of 20; and that's roughly how many you should aim for in a game with this much room. At a bare minimum I recommend establishing at least 10 cities and doing it earlier rather than later. For a beginner such as yourself try to get them settled in the first 150-200 turns of the game. As you get better aim for 10 by turn 100 and if you can consistently manage that you'll never struggle against the AI again. -There are some settings I would recommend changing that will greatly improve your quality of life while playing. The first and foremost is you need to have the civilization info banner turned on. From the main menu, choose "Game Options" then on the left select the 'Interface" section. Here you'll find a handful of things I'd suggest reviewing as there might be more in here you'll want to adjust, but what we are looking for specifically is the option "Show Yields in HUD Ribbon:" and you'll want to set that to Always Show. This will display more information on the other civilizations you are in the game with under their leader portrait. Other settings you might consider changing would be "Auto Unit Cycling" (I like that have this turned off) as well as some things in the "Game" tab like Quick Combat and Quick Movement. -Specialization is the name of the game in Civ 6. Each city you found will be better served focusing on one or two things rather than trying to do everything. This ties back into my first point of settling more cities. -City-states are good things and for the most part you'll want to have many of them in the world to interact with. When you are suzerain of them they are essentially you're allies. They give you their strategic resources, they will declare war on whoever you declare war on, they will declare war on whoever declares it on you and assist you in that war if your enemies come to close to them. The number of envoys you have is how you claim suzerainty over city-states and other enemy civilization (like Rome) will send Envoys to them as well. If Rome wanted to become the suzerain of one of the ones you are suzerain of he would need to dump more envoys into the city state than you have there. Each city-state has a unique bonus it gives to its suzerain. Some of these bonuses are mediocre and nearly useless but some of them are incredibly powerful. -I hate to beat this drum again because I know it is probably frustrating to hear it but I really really REALLY recommend acquiring all the additional content for Civ 6 (essentially everything that comes with the Anthology edition of the game). I am only pushing this because I know how time consuming Civilization can be and with that in mind if you ever do plan on upgrading and acquiring more content for this game in the future you will be forced to relearn so much and likely have to unlearn some stuff too. Don't feel obliged to spend money you don't have tho! I mean only to give advice not to berate or pressure you! :)
Thank you Stormy! I tried to use as much of this advice as I could in episode 7 :) I may be slow and forget a lot but I try lol. I'm not sure that I'd put more money into this game when I'm like most other people and have a huge backlog of games, staring at me in disappointment ;) Plus some I just want to re-play again after a few decades, like M&M. But I do hear you and appreciate the input! :D
You can tell your follower to mount a horse.
Whaaaat?! I don't think anyone has ever mentioned this! Would that be stealing, though? 🤔
@@leysaplays Well, it's stealing if it's not your horse. But in the case of Lightning, I don't think it's stealing.
Hi, Leysa! Wow, I thought the first episode was confusing, but this one has blown my tiny mind! 😅
Hi Carl! It's a trip! I love it...when my stomach isn't protesting 🤢 Apparently motion sickness in this game is well known, there's a lot of threads about it. I'm going to try playing with some settings next time and see if that helps.
I notice your lingering too long in an area, which is why you found the music frustrating and annoying, if rather than standing still listening to the narrator you followed The Line, the music would not have been played as long as you would have been further down the path and closer to the fern which is where the music cuts off. Just to help you out so that your not lingering around, in the long corridors between areas unless given a choice to change something/go off path there isn't much to find, everything is pretty much in self contained areas connected by hallways.
Also you asked how to know when youve reached an end point cause of how much stuff changes, almost all endings lead to the game restarting. There are a handful that dont restart the game but iirc these endings are pretty clear and you know when youve hit a dead end,
Ahhh, darn. Oh well. I was so sick to my stomach by that point and just standing still listening felt better, but then that music...ugh. Thank you for the hint though, I'll definitely keep that in mind.
How do you know when you're "done"? Or is there no "done"? I really like this game but just the thought of getting motion sick again is putting me off :(
@@leysaplays yeah unfortunately theres no real way to know when you are "done", you just know your done once you keep coming across endings youve already done but to help you out, there are only 19 unique endings in the base game (ultra deluxe practically doubles the amount of endings) its just some path ways are interconnected allowing you to deviate from 1 endings path onto another, which makes it feel like theres alot more endings also not all endings are after "the 2 doors" and some endings require you to manually restart after providing "some input" 😉 there is a handy flow chart on TSP fandom wiki, which describes every ending and how to get to them, but i wouldnt recommend looking that up until you think youve found everything (no spoiling yourself)
Cicero is my favorite part of the game.
Of the entire game? 😬 I fear your reaction to my actions with him in later episodes 😂
@@leysaplays 🤣 I understand, because it is very off-putting at first. But you can make him a follower, and everywhere you go, he always gives advice like, "Let's ki-ILL someone!" and talks about stabbing people. And he's so happy about it.
He's also really good at sneaking, but he sometimes does charge ahead.
If I were you I'd get at least another 6 settlers immediately, going wide if you have the space is the way to go
You're not the first to say that, I'll keep trying to build more cities. It feels odd to do so, just to fill the space.
Machu Pichu is a mountain wonder but it's been built. Campus districts get adjacency for mountains
Ah ha, I knew I remembered some benefit for mountains :) Thank you for mentioning that! I wasn't crazy after all :D
builders that have charge are early game problem later u become so rich that u dont know what to do with them :D
I like hearing that! Honestly, not loving the whole "charge" feature for units. I don't understand why they'd make such a change. I'll deal with it though :)
