Bibi's Gespräch mit der Deutschen Gruppe CAN (1972)
Februar 1974 (N° 360) erschienen. Ich war nie ein fan von CAN’s ...

Thank you for uploading this interview Bibi. Not very many Bolan interviews exist, so this is precious. Thank you for making the effort to speak English so as to make this interview possible.......and btw, your English sounds rather good to me. Interviews with Bolan were not easy for journalistrs to obtain at that time because he was so popular. As one journalist said : it was just as hard as trying to get get an interview with the beatles during beatlemania. During the interview, Marc said to you "go on as long as you like" because he was obviously very comfortable with you. This is not surprising bcoz he was drawn to extremely gentle-natured people - like himself. Thanks for preserving and uploading this.

    It’s wasn’t a matter of him being good, though he was extraordinary. It was more that his voice was distinctive, unique and hopefully worked well with his talents as a musician and composer. I don’t think he got that. I think from interviews I’ve seen and heard, he hated his voice. What a waste of time. He sang soft rock/soul like nobody else with his tender, breathy sexy voice! Then he changed his voice dramatically and forever to be in stage musicals. Damn shame. He got on Broadway but- he sounded like everybody else. Later when he he sang rock again, he sang ‘Lying to Myself’, etc. It could have been anyone singing.

      @flannerymonaghan-morris4825 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well when you mix and match with people over certain decades or years or live in one area for a while outside of where they were originally from, it’s pretty natural for the accent to be lost. He wasn’t in contact with many Geordies for a while, so it makes sense that he lost the accent. I think also he attended grammar school and was pretty upper middle class in his upbringing…

    • @220773
      @220773 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@flannerymonaghan-morris4825 Well, as far as I've read he came from a working class background he always hated... I'm a Scot and all the Scots I know who've moved abroad (or down south) 40 years ago or even more kept their accent with no trace of any change......... it's a fact you yerself can check out, if you take a listen to people such as Annie Lennox or Jim Diamond (check 'im out, he was still purely Glaswegian right before dying, unfortunately), Jackie Stewart or Jim Kerr............ all Scots who moved elsewhere even more than 40 years ago. It's a matter of culture, methinks: a Scot would never think he'd do good in changing his accent. People from other areas instead might want to pose a wee bit more. It's a matter of pride. I've heard Cockneys who've remained Cockney no matter what (Phil Collins? Ronnie Wood?) and others who've Americanised quite a lot... I've heard The Beatles, they all had modified their native tongue though you can still hear traces of a Scouse accent, then again many Mancunians who came to London definitely changed their accent but not the Gallaghers..... in Geordieland there's too many people who've switched allegiance: Sting (he admitted he wanted to get rid of his accent), Bryan Ferry, Mark Knopfler, Trevor Horn, Yes' Alan White, Neil Tennant... they're simply too many. One exception? Brian Johnson. Now maybe 40 years or more he's moved to Australia and he keeps speaking Geordie........

      @@220773 I might be wrong, but I always think that Scots aren't the same as British. So it is incorrect to compare the British who changed their accents and Scots, isn't ? I'm not a native English speaker )

    • @220773
      @220773 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@bardot3665 Scots are Brits. The UK is England plus Wales plus Scotland plus Northern Ireland. Our anthem is 'God Save the King'. We also have local anthems, in Scotland we have 'Flower o' Scotland'. So if you move through Britain and change location it SHOULDN'T matter if you move from Glasgow or Newcastle or Manchester or Cardiff or Belfast or Birmingham to... elsewhere: you should tend to keep your accent. Only if you move very early in your life (at least before becoming a teenager) your accent will obviously change on the whole, otherwise it might get through subtle changes... nothing more than that. So why do we Scots always keep our accent (even Sean Connery still sounded Scottish although he underwent diction lessons...) while most Englishmen lose it??? Have you ver heard The Beatles? All of them have changed their accents quite a lot in the years, but I think you could still get they were from Liverpool if you listened hard to them... yet they'd changed their accent much more than any Scotsman would! But there's nothing like the Geordies... too many of them have switched to 'posh English', it happened too many times. Some Brummies have done so, but by gosh they're closer to the South, I can understand they might get more and more 'southern'... what about the Geordies then???
