    I understand Ethernet is key for low latency. A lot of iPad hubs have Ethernet options. So it would not be out of the question to have an iPad connected to Ethernet. With that in mind, have you guys considered making an iOS app for jamming? I use iPad, MacBook as well as mpc hardware in my music production.

    • @jacktriplabs
      @jacktriplabs 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Great questions! Yes, you're right about iPads allowing to connect to Ethernet. This will certainly lower your latency, as WiFi encoding/decoding takes more time than direct wired transmission. Since there's currently no mobile JackTrip app yet, you'll need to use the browser, (which adds latency as well).

    There is obviously also JACK, free open source software that works the same way Loopback does. Isn't JackTrip somehow related to Jack?

    • @jacktriplabs
      @jacktriplabs 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hey there, great question! Yes, the name JackTrip is based on JACK. Please note that the "Classic Mode" of JackTrip (the original open-source version) can still be used with JACK to route your audio (e.g. using the qjackctl GUI). You're right, qjackctl is very similar to LoopBack. Afaik, JackTrip Labs' Virtual Studios, however, do not support JACK routing the same way, since it uses edge computing to create its own internal routing (the idea is to make the user interface and server creation more consumer-friendly). I personally haven't gotten JACK to run with a Virtual Studio, but please let us know if you manage to!

    My audio interface is connected to my Mac and my edrums are connected to my audio interface with midi, so my sound comes from EZ Drummer. The output of EZ Drummer is the audio interface and input to jack trip is the audio interface, BUT it doesn’t get my drums at all. I can hear them on the interface with my headphones but nothing goes to jack trip. I am guessing that the midi feed to the Mac is all the interface is sending and the Mac sends the sounds to the interface but nothing else. There must be a way to get the sound back to the mac

      Hi @ovortron72, sorry to hear it didn't work for you. You've mentioned that you've tried JackTrip with different people in different countries. May I ask what the distances between your locations were? Again, the internet is only "so" fast, which is why we recommend for all musicians to be within 500 miles or less to achieve less than 30ms of roundtrip latency, which is usually perceived as real-time without noticeable delay! Might that have been the problem? Thanks:)

    Is the idea of this product instead of using OBS?

    • @jacktriplabs
      @jacktriplabs 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey there! Since OBS is a cross-platform screencasting and streaming app, in a way you're right about our Broadcasting feature being similar to some of OBS's capabilities. However, OBS has a focus on curating different input sources, create scenes and transitions etc, and then simulcasting it out to different streaming services, while we focus on making it easy to stream your Virtual Studio Live sessions out to the public. We hope that Broadcasting will make it easier for you to reach a broader audience without having to use third-party software like OBS!

    • @KevinDoherty
      @KevinDoherty หลายเดือนก่อน

      Isn't THIS 3rd party software? ...seems like OBS with high quality audio settings. OBS does all of this. What do you charge?

    • @jacktriplabs
      @jacktriplabs 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@KevinDoherty I guess it depends on what you consider 3rd party! If you use OBS as your base software, yes, you'd need to connect JackTrip's output to OBS and then send your OBS stream out to the platforms. But if you use JackTrip for making music in real-time as your base program (like most of our clients), you now basically don't need other programs like OBS to send it out to the social media platforms. You can do so directly within JackTrip. That's all I meant :)

  • @andygillespie2101

    Thanks for the useful info on setting up JackTrip. I have a question - does combining two inputs in stereo only work if you first connect these two inputs to an audio interface or small mixer? I've tried connecting two USB input sources directly to my MacBook Pro (one is a mic, the other is a USB feed from my Roland drum kit) and although I can see both input sources and they each work individually, I cannot hear both of them when I choose the Stereo option. It seems like it only lets me hear one or the other, depending which I choose as the input source.

    • @jacktriplabs
      @jacktriplabs 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Andy, you're right about that! In JackTrip, you can only select one Audio input device so far. If you have multiple audio devices you'd like to send to JackTrip, we recommend that you either get a mixer and send the one stereo output from the mixer to JackTrip. However, there are some amazing software products out there as well that you might want to try out, including Rogue Amoeba's 'Loopback'. We're not affiliated with them, but they work well for some of us. Maybe they have a test version so you can see if it works for you! Please let us know how it goes:) Thanks, Jan

    • @andygillespie2101
      @andygillespie2101 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Jan @@jacktriplabs - many thanks for your reply and advice. I downloaded a trial version of Loopback and it appeared to work fine alongside JackTrip as you suggested. However, as I'm likely to be only an occasional user, I reckon I'll pass on the approx. $120 that they require for a licence - I can pick up a small interface or mixer for less money and would probably have more actual live playing or recording scenarios where I could use the interface / mixer hardware instead of the Loopback 'virtual solution'. One other bit of feedback from me - and this is a weird one. Each time I've used the JackTrip desktop app (only once with Loopback, the other times have been JackTrip only) I'm getting what appears to be a bug. I quit JackTrip (closing the app) and then close the lid of my MBP. Every time I then re-open my laptop, the OS has crashed and I need to manually re-boot my system. This never happens with any other app I have ever used on my laptop, and seems doubly weird considering I'm actually quitting the JackTrip app beforehand. Any ideas what the issue could be? .... For ref - I'm running MacOS Big Sur on an i7 MBP with 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD.

      Hey Roman! Jan, the last few weeks a buddy of mine and I have tried to use jacktrip to jam online. He is on drums, I am on bass. We have struggled to get us to both be able to have voice audio and instrument audio at the same time. We either have instrument audio coming through or voice audio, how do we go about getting both while we are in the online studio?

    • @MikeDickey0
      @MikeDickey0 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Moe, do you have a multi-channel audio interface with your microphone plugged into one channel and your instrument into another? Make sure that you have "Stereo" (not "Mono") selected in your audio input settings. If your interface has more than two channels, you may also need to select the appropriate ones.

    • @moesaurenman4734
      @moesaurenman4734 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MikeDickey0 yeah I have the antelope audio zen q synergy core, but channel 1 and 2 are on the rear for mic inputs, and channel 3 & 4 are the instrument inputs on the front. Jacktrip settings in the studio for input options had channel 1-20 individually and then I had 1&2 3&4 etc as options. So I picked channel 1&2 and then plugged the bass into channel 2 in the back. I thought this would work but my drummer said the bass sounded poorly. I had other issues with youtube and spotify not playing while using jacktrip and the zen q and I think the zen q is overkill, so I just ordered the audient id4 mkii. I am hoping its simple 2 channel input 1 instrument on the front one mic on the rear end up working nice and I don't have the other bugs I experienced with the zen q. Hopefully this set up works for me. We are not sure what we need for my drummer. Right now he has the roland td27kv2 and only only get his DI of the drums in jacktrip. Does he need a audio interface like me to be able to get two channels 1 for the drums, and 1 for the mic?

    • @jacktriplabs
      @jacktriplabs 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Moe, thanks for reaching out and apologies for the late response - I just saw your and Mike's comments. I have a few thoughts: - Sorry to hear you had problems with your Antelope audio interface. Given your setup, I would have tried to select "1&2" under input channel, which would be your rear mic channels. Then, I'd have chosen "Mix to Mono", as you'd want both inputs to be heard in the center. - You said the bass sounded poorly. Often, instruments and microphones need a different amount of gain, as the impedance differs ("mic" vs "line" level), so that could be a reason. - Since you have ordered your new Audient interface, please let us know how it goes. I agree, it looks promising with the dedicated instrumental jack and microphone input. - You mentioned issues with Spotify/TH-cam while using JackTrip. Are you using a windows machine? If so, that's not an uncommon problem, as Windows' ASIO and audio drivers often allow only one program to use a certain audio input or output. Otherwise, I've seen programs crash or the audio distort. On Mac this is usually less of a problem and could be related to your interface's drivers as well. - About your drummer friend: Since he has an electronic drumset, it would obviously be best if he transmitted stereo, but for that you might need an additional mixer (since it would otherwise be three inputs with the mic). Is he has a DI with one mono output, yes, I believe he'd need an audio interface and use one input for his DI signal and one for a microphone. @@jacktriplabs Really appreciate the reply back. I got an Audient iD4 MKII and was able to use my mic and bass using channel 1 & 2 in jack trip. We ran into some of the same issue with my drummer saying my sound quality from my bass was good sometime and bad others. I am hoping you guys are right about gain settings. We will try again tomorrow so hopefully some fine tuning of gain settings will solve the bass sound issue. As far as voice that seemed to work just fine. I also no longer have any issues using TH-cam or Spotify while we are in our Jacktrip Studio. I am not sure where the Mix to Mono setting is. I was only able to find the channels options along with choosing stereo or mono. Is mono the "mix to mono" you are referring to? Now we just need to figure out voice on my drummers end. I get his drums loud and clear no sound issues at all coming from his TK27k setup. But unfortunately it doesn't have a second channel for a mic. Hopefully once he finds an audio interface I will get voice and drums without issues on my side. Overall we have had our trouble shooting but the fact that he's in the bay area and I am in SoCal and we can legit jam together is so damn cool. Hopefully we will get it dialed and then have to snag the yearly membership so we don't have time limits.

    One of our guys just moved 90 minutes away so we are going to try and bring him in virtually with your software. Thanks for the tutorial.

    Do I need a digital bridge for reducing latency?

    • @jacktriplabs
      @jacktriplabs 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi yogimastul2, No, you don't need a bridge for establishing a low-latency connection. If you want to use your own computer, we do recommend that you use an Ethernet cable and an audio interface. The bridge can be handy in case you don't want to use your own computer. It has USB and Ethernet ports attached to it. Here's some more info on the analog and digital bridge, in case you're curious: help.jacktrip.org/hc/en-us/articles/6356359766291-How-to-Join-with-a-JackTrip-bridge

      @@jacktriplabs Thanks for replying 😁, do you have a server in Israel? I'm asking because I tried to have a Virtual studio session with a friend, and he said that my voice sound filtered(I'm using surface pro 8, and Rme UCX Audo interface)

    Note that, among a few other adjustments and enhancements, we've renamed 'Self Volume' to 'Studio Echo', as it seemed more descriptive of its function:)

    Can it be used via Wifi connection?

    • @jacktriplabs
      @jacktriplabs 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi TheFaust18. Yes, JackTrip works with WiFi. However, we recommend an Ethernet connection if you would like to participate in making music, since it lowers the latency significantly. Since we're about making music, we find that 'real-time' is the most important aspect of the connection, so we recommend to lower it as much as possible. Cheers!
