OODA Tutorial 02 — Wormholes
OODA is a step MIDI sequencer for iOS and macOS with some interactive and semi-generative tricks up its sleeve. In this series of videos, I give an overview of how to get the most out of OODA in AUM.
OODA is a MIDI sequencer, so it does not generate sound on its own. Instead, OODA sends messages to other apps and plugin that tell them what notes to play. OODA can run as a standalone app or as an AUv3 plugin.

Are you still making apps?
Hi, wondering how you get the audio out from the iPad????
Hi, thanks for the comment. On the newer iPads you will need to find a dongle that has both USB and headphone jack, or connect to a USB audio interface.
I cant add it to my plug ins
Hi thanks, sometimes restarting the computer helps if you haven't done that. Feel free to send me an email if you're still having issues: www.audiosymmetric.com/support.html
its not working
Im trying to use autopad on my android phone with a midi device and i'm having trouble getting it to advance in the setlist. Every time i hit the key to advance the setlist, it stops the setlist. Not even the play song function works. I can play that first song, but i cant play any others.
Hi, thanks for the comment. We are aware of some MIDI issues on Android. If possible, please email me with your device and Android version so I can narrow down this issue. www.audiosymmetric.com/support.html
Ho, i use it in France 👌
I am unable to load OODA in AUM as MIDI. Has anything changed during the years? No problem with Zoa. Can anyone please help?
Now it ok, ha
How do you access minor keys
Thank you for creating AutoPad.
Autopad can send Midi transpose messages? I want that my midi keyboard to be transposed automatically when i press a pad in a certain key. It's possible? Thanks!
Hello there! Ever since I found out about this app on iOS, it has changed the way we conduct the worship as 1 person can be using this as a background support while playing the guitar. Extremely useful for filling the space. Just bought this app again on my newly bought Samsung S8 Ultra tablet. I have 3 issues for you to look into - for the android version. 1. Purchasing / demoing sound packs seem to be stuck, as it can’t play the demo sounds, and on the iOS version to purchase it shows the price / tick on the right side, on android it’s a cross but pressing the cross doesn’t seem to do anything. 2. Cant change sounds on the fly. On the main Live page, on iOS I can press a chord, and in the sounds list, if I press the different sounds it will change the sound on the fly. On Android, it doesn’t allow me to change the sounds on the fly while the chord is sounding. I have to deselect and reselect the chord for the different sound to change. 3. Setlist doesn’t save sound. On iOS, the setlist is saved properly, down to the different lists, and sounds. On Android, if you close and reopen the app, the sounds presaved will be reverted to “tap to choose” . Meaning I have to go in every single list and reconfigure the sound- and not close the app. Maybe it’s just a S8 ultra thing, maybe it’s an Android thing, but given how flawless the iOS version is, it’s a pity the Android version is not up to fluff yet. Giving you these feedback for you to work on the Android version! Looking forward to deploy my S8 Ultra for worship! And a big thank you again for creating this amazing app. Managed to get many others on board too. I’m willing to share more info if you need. Just let me know how I can help.
It is possible to set MIDI messages ? For the example, when you set a certain pad in the key of C for the example, the midi information to be sent to an electric keyboard which will be transposed automatically in the same key( or vice versa, the electric keyboard to send transpose midi message to the Ipad app )?

I know it's 2 years later, but I just want you to know, I love this app and it's easily my go to for interesting generative sequencing. Great job! The step options, extra scales, and golden rule stuff were game changers that elevate this app above even a lot of dedicated hardware sequencers. Anyways, just wanted to give some props years later 😉
OODA is great - but, SDS-x1 is by far the most underrated, valued, discussed drum apps. I have damn near every serious drump app on ios, and yet SDS is my only subscription to date to any software dev. ThIS DUDE ROCkS.
Very nice app!
Loving the sequencer so far! But damn, I wish there was a way to save patterns and switch them in a quantized way so we could use them for live performance (sort of like a song mode). Any way that could be implemented in a future firmware?
Sorry if i missed it but can each play head send midi out to a different channel?
I just bought this but I can't find it in Garageband iOS. I thought GarageBand can run Auv3 plugins? Im very lost
How do I do this on the iPad now
Boa tarde . No meu GarageBand o auto pad não fica marcado , ele fica bloqueado . Eu também comprei o app, porém gostaria de lincar direto no garage
Hi man! Thanks for this tutorial however how do I get it to record? Do I need to have an actual midi controller for that?
Why the exact same config wont work on Logic Pro X?
how do i separate channels in AUM so that OODA sends each playhead to a different channel?
Hi, if you scroll to the bottom of the voice settings, there is an option to set the MIDI channel :)
Hi - my ZOA is connected to a soft synth thru AUM but I cannot get ZOA’s sequence to initiate! There is no play button like in the standalone app. What am I doing wrong, this is very frustrating!
Hi thanks, perhaps send me an email with a screenshot of your setup? ryan at audiosymmetric dot com
Hey bro. We use this program in our worship service every week. Any idea why AutoPad is not recognizing midi input from my device?
Serai t'il possible une notice en français ???
i'm not sure if you have a video on it but can you connect a foot pedal to control specific keys for AP? for example the Airturn BT200 / S-6. is it possible to have each switch control a different key on live mode?
I have this same question! This would be very helpful for me. 🙏🏼
Hello, thanks for this great app. I am a happy customer. I do have a question about Minor Keys, is it possible to play minor keys as well, I just can't find a way to do it. Thanks!
Fantastic app. The video series is perfect for getting started and off the ground with the app, and I'm having a blast with it. Still going strong in 2024 with this and OODA.
Fantastic app. Still using it in 2024 and got it on release.
Fantastic app. Bought it on release and love it more in 2024 than ever. An instant classic. *Note that the Mod/Skip actions only apply when in *recording* mode, as shown (I missed that the first time).
Such a beautiful, elegant and powerful app. Simple and easy to use with just a bit of instruction (watch the vids!). I bought OODA and ZOA when they first came out and I love them more in 2024 than ever. Absolute classics. I hope people are still discovering these - it's a great tool for creative exploration or for creating projects.
Hey, My Autopay does not show up in the menu. It is installed on my Mac. Any help?
Please try restarting your Mac. This usually fixes this issue.
How can we have minor scales?
Hi, the pads only contain the root and the fifth so they can be use with minor keys. You could also use the relative major pad for a different feel. So for example a song in E minor could use either a pad in E or G. Hope this helps!
@@audiosymmetric Thanks for the reply. Hope in Future updates we may have some minor keys/chords too. Not a tech/music savvy here. But would help people like me. Thanks
Hey man, I’d like to use this while using the click for IEMs. Do you happen to have a video on how to route click separate from the pad so they aren’t going down the same channel? Thanks 🙏🏼
Never mind haha you answered my question. 😆
Can autopad be controlled by midi fx apps in aum like scaler 2 or helium?
Yes this should be possible! Please watch this video for setting up MIDI control of AutoPad: th-cam.com/video/UVgj_bWkY8s/w-d-xo.html It is for hardware controllers but the ideas should be the same.
@@audiosymmetric thank you Ryan.
The screen on the video is pretty blurry, I can't see anything...!?
My apologies!
It looks good here on my PC at 720p, so I think the source video is OK.
After trying a few different pad apps, this is the one for me. Love it! The only question I had was how to delete imported sounds I'm never going to use or rename ones I really like. This video has answered that, making the app totally perfect!
bro I need help , I want use the standalone in Mac wit my rc 202 , im using usb , usb midi and midi blutoohh , I can't figured .when im put on the Ableton Link option nothing happend, I want send midi clock
Hi, thanks for the comment. AutoPad is not able to send MIDI clock. Also, if you have Ableton Live 11 you should be able to load AutoPad directly in Ableton as an AUv3 plug-in.
Hi Ryan! I'm trying to use a Midi controller from Mvave Chocolate to control the song list. Any idea on how to set up it via Midi CC or via Notes on/Off? Or is there any idea on how to MIDI learn? Thanks.
Hi, I looked at the M-VAVE Chocolate and it looks like it is bluetooth. Unfortunately AutoPad for Android does not have Bluetooth MIDI yet.
@@audiosymmetric Thanks for the reply. they actually have another midi hardware to connect it via USB. It seems AP is not receiving any command. I think it would help if we could have Midi learn or something to scan the midi options.
Will there ever be a Windows version of Autopad
Sadly likely not. The only reason the Mac version exists is because Apple made it super easy to bring iOS apps to Mac. There is an Android version, though!
@Audio Symmetric/ryan , android update when?
Thanks for the comment. I am working on it but unfortunately I am having to rewrite the entire app and it is taking longer than expected. I cannot offer a timeframe but it is coming!
WHAT?!!!!!!!!
Is there a link(s), to find your friend Corey, and vids of his usage? AMAZING work!🙏🏾✨
Thanks! www.soulyftaudio.com
Excellent work, great sequencer.
Glad you like it!
I can not express the load of thankfulness for this tool. But it doesn't let me select a mp3 (3 min) pad on Android 🙁 any solutions?
Hi thanks for the comment, yes user pads must be wav files on Android for the time being.
Hello, for me Ooda and Zoa have the best UI for generative sequencing. The only thing I’m missing is changing time on a single voice. Is there a possibility to change the pace with wormhole rules or at least with midi lfo? Of course using several voices is a way to go, but I’d like to have time change option, too
Thanks for the kind words! Not right now but I like the idea!
amazing plug inn by the way
Hey. Loving ZOA so far but can’t get the auv3 to scale properly in AUM and the entire bottom section of controls isn’t accessible. Any tricks to fix this?
Hi yes it works best in certain aspect ratios but you can still scroll down to see the other controls if you need to.
