As a Ugandan 🇺🇬😍, I always tell Ugandans to learn from Kenya 🇰🇪, not to compete with Kenyans😅 Because Kenya has an ocean and Uganda has a lake (all the new stuff gets in Kenya before it arrives in Kampala). Ultimately, Uganda 🇺🇬 will always be the "Pearl of Africa" because we're the best country in Africa without a coast, an ocean ❤😅✌🏽😊

Am Ugandan and people are giving you good advice and you are saying you are comfortable with overpaying. A driver is 500,000 per month, and all other costs are high. If you are doing business here, please mind your costs, money moves fast here and getting it back will be a very huge challenge. Start being prudent with money early on, it doesn't matter if you have much saved up in your personal accounts. Just adjust, we all wish your family to flourish and succeed in Uganda. Doing business in Uganda is not easy, costs will easily matchup your revenues if you don't look into cost cutting as early as possible.

I'm in the US. I had a nightmare experience trying to open a Current Account with my Ugandan partner. It's about a month out, and we are finally expecting to have the account opened tomorrow, 29 October 2024. The initial account was approved by headquarters, but the local branch manager rejected it and put on all sorts of requirements not requested by headquarters. Our experience with the USRB was somewhat plagued also, but he had a helpful gent there that got us through the process. We were initially told that we needed a Memorandum of Association and Articles of Association (MEMART) to set up our business. We discovered that a BUSINESS is a term of art for a large concern. We're a small business, so we filed as a COMPANY (LTD), not a business. Later, we found that we had to file as a partnership. We finally had a Partnership agreement filed by a lawyer recommended by the bank, which did not have all of the specifics I crafted in my partnership agreement or my MEMART. It contained some of my provisions but was pretty bare-bones otherwise. We finally got our business legal. We paid fees a little less than some of what you mentioned. I agree. Do your homework before you engage a professional.

I subbed. Navigating the business landscape in Uganda has taught me some hard lessons, and I’d like to share this one to help others avoid a similar fate. I’m based in the US and have a business partner in Kampala. We decided to work with a local woman who helps connect young girls from villages to jobs in the city. We hired a young woman to work in our shop and offered her 100,000 UGX per month and room and board. However, the reality was quite different. The young woman didn’t need accommodation-she had her place with her husband. Within ten days, she stole cash and goods from us, and when left unsupervised, she often left the shop to go home. The situation escalated when we also discovered she stole from the shop next door, which we had a business interest in. When we confronted her about the theft, she returned what she had taken from us but claimed she hadn’t stolen the cash-just “holding it” for safekeeping. My partner watched her go to an agent to get the money that she returned to us. My partner watched in disbelief as she pretended to retrieve the cash from our shop, only to return it in a completely different currency combination. It’s now a matter for the police; we’re still reeling from the ordeal. In the aftermath, we completely overhauled our hiring procedures. We’re committed to obtaining verifiable references and solid recommendations because trust can’t be given lightly. My partner, shaken by the experience, has grown skeptical about hiring anyone new, even though we know that will be essential for our growth. Another crucial oversight was not verifying the hiring source’s claims that the young woman could read and perform simple math-she could do neither and was far less of a resource than we had hoped. This experience has left us with a foundation of caution, and I hope our story serves as a cautionary tale for others venturing into similar territory. Keep up the excellent work. I enjoy your videos. If things here get as bad as they potentially can if Kamala Harris does not win, I may find myself living as an ex-pat in Uganda.
