You should consider changing to a fountain pen with extra fine nibs to broad nibs with platinum carbon ink and you’d save the environment and not be throwing out plastic pens
OMG I LOVE YOUR LEFT HAND! It's so pretty!!!! I know I sound like a random freak on the internet, but I love slight imperfections. I think those imperfections are what make perfection. Sorry for mentioning it if it's something that bothers you (even tho it def shouldn't!!). Also, those watercolor workbooks by Sarah Simon are a blast! This is the first video of yours in my recommended so I don't know if you've tried them, but I think you might like them! I have wanted to try that Painting Calm book for a while now, but I have a few others to work through first. I do NOT do that style in my own art, but just sitting back and relaxing and playing with your pigments and watching them do their thing without any result being needed is sometimes just fun.
Very interesting! I findthe bloom technique most intruinging, as most watercolorists advise you to avoid them, but you do make them look stunning!!
I’m back!😅 I was wondering if we could do a Collab?? I hope you’re interested but I understand if you’re not. I just thought it would be a cool twist or something.
Thank you for asking! But I have so much I’m trying to do at once right now there’s no way I could find the time 🩵
Love all of these, thanks so much for sharing them! And your handmade books are just beautiful .. I'm heading to Etsy to look them up now! My favourite art supply was the Ohuhu alcohol marker set I purchased and a super soft gummy eraser by Factis that I found in an art store for $2.
You Tube is my favorite art supply of 2024!!
That’s a great answer!! 😍
I too struggle with the gel pens!!! Especially the signo! I have been so inspired by your art! and I have not touched my Gansai Tambi watercolors I got for my birthday from my sons...fear. I hope to get them out now. Thank you!!!☺💗
Lots of dots...but it's interesting to see how it comes together. Lovely chat too. xx
Yes perhaps I could have thought of something different but I was under pressure 😂 Thanks Helen! 💚✨🩵
The plastic top is brilliant when you have cats who like stepping on wet paints!
Haha! I didn’t think of that! I have 2 very uninterested old dogs so they don’t go anywhere near my paints. My mums puppy on the other hand… 🙈
I love them. They are big pans and so gouachy I use them all the time and ignore the fancy watercolours!
I used these almost exclusively for a while and then I missed my traditional watercolours so now I split my time evenly 😂
Wow awesome video! I like that you used brushes and water to blend the markers. I'll definitely try that technique. I love these markers (I have several sets). I think they are better than posca.
Ahh thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it ☺️ blending with water works really nicely but you have to do it very quick before the marker dries too much! I like that they are quick drying though. Have you tried the Arrtx Simptap markers? If so, whats your opinion?
yes I have. I got them in a bundle with the regular arrtx markers. It is the 24 pack. I like them but I feel the 24 has too many greens and blues. I heard they now how bigger sets but I said I wasn't going to buy anymore acrylic markers since I have five sets.
These seem too opaque for my use, plus I try to use brands that are cruelty free if I can - but the palette itself is so beautiful, love the big pans too!
They are very opaque! I definitely split my time evenly between these and my normal watercolours as I enjoy both! When you say cruelty free, can you tell me more? I tried to do some research into the make up of these paints and I got so much conflicting info and people still give me conflicting info now on whether they still use animal products or not 😅 And yes, the big pans are one of my favourite things about them!
@ Gansai paints are traditionally made with animal glue. You will find conflicting into on Kuretake, some sources saying they use it, some saying they do not. Until the company can say for sure, I stick to the brands I know are cruelty free, like Daniel Smith. I use enough things that are not cruelty free that I have not been able to find replacements for, so when I can switch, I do. Every little bit helps.
Lovely video ❤ thank you
Thank you for watching! I’m glad you liked it 🩵
You said that one one looked like a circus, but I really liked it.
Well I really appreciate that, thank you! ☺️
@ you also said that you didn’t finish that pink and blue one because you didn’t like it, but it was one of my favorites!! I also like really liked your finished spread. The color scheme was very pretty!!!!
This is why I love art so very much. You could show 10 people different pieces and they would probably all choose different favourites or notice different things about each one. Especially with abstract art. It’s a lot of fun. I really appreciate your kind words about my art. Thank you! 🩵
@ I actually have a TH-cam channel. I was editing a video I had just recorded when I saw that you replied! I understand that when you make art, you can see the flaws in it but when you see other people‘s art, it just looks pretty.
@@ZivahJones exactly! Normally people like my least favourite artworks the most too 😂 awesome, I will check out your channel! ☺️
Also, this year I found my way back to art after taking a break for a long time. I purchased that same Jean Haines Daniel Smith watercolor set you love, as well as a big set of Neocolor IIs. I love them both! I have been eyeing the Painting Calm book and I definitely want to pick up that abstract one you mentioned. Thanks again for this video! I looked in the description for your Etsy but didn’t see it. I’ll feel a bit silly if I missed it 🙈
Oh isn’t it amazing coming back to art after a while!? 😍 I haven’t ever really had a lot of time off but I remember not drawing a lot and then I saw a person in Disney of all places using pencils to draw the characters and that was the very beginning of this now 6 or 7 year long obsession with all things drawing and painting! 😍🎨✨ Love the painting calm book, it’s beautiful but if I had to recommend just one it would be the abstract watercolour one. I can’t get enough of it!
Oh my gosh, where can I find your Etsy shop? I would love to snag one of your journals! Also this was so much fun to watch. I am so glad the algorithm brought your channel to me! 😍
Aww thank you so much!! I’m glad the algorithm brought you here too! 🥰 Welcome! Here’s the link for my Etsy ammysartshop.etsy.com it is in the description but it could be hidden underneath all the other links 😂
@ Awesome, thanks so much. I just snagged my favorite one, yay! 😍 Christmas gift to myself 🥰
Omg thank you so SO much!! 🥰 I will get it in the post to you ASAP. Let’s hope it arrives before Christmas. I hope you love it as much as I enjoyed making it! 🩵x
@@Little_Ammy_Arts Even if it doesn’t arrive, my birthday is shortly after so I’m not worried about it. I live in the US and I have dabbled in Etsy so I totally get that there’s only so much we can control about shipping and such. Anyway I’m so excited and thanks again for this lovely video. You have definitely inspired me to sit down and get creative today! ❤️
That is AMAZING to hear!! I hope you had some fun creative time 🥰 your journal is all packed up and ready to post first thing in the morning. Tracking should update on Etsy soon x
My favorite this year were the sharpie creative brush tip paint pens. But then I tried the Artxx brush tip equivalent and it completely blew sharpie out of the water. Am not a fan of the Simptap ones where you have to press the button on the bottom. My arthritis hates those markers, they dry up too fast and there's not enough paint in them.
I’ve heard about those sharpie pens!! They are acrylic right?? Oh dear, Arrtx sent me some Simptap markers to review on the channel, I haven’t even opened them yet as I need some time to make a good video but all I’ve heard is how problematic they are 🤦🏻♀️😂
Your husband sounds like a gem. I think I’d better not go to Choosing Keeping……. Too tempting. And I didn’t know there was a Cass Arts in Brighton. Must go there
Oh he really is! He knows it too, now I’ve started earning a little bit of money from my channel he classes the art gifts as investments 🙊😂 Choosing keeping is beautiful but it is very very tempting. I want things in there I’ve never wanted in my life because everything is extra pretty!! Brighton Cass Art is quite small but full of goodies!
Enjoying the long content of your videos
That’s good to hear!
Started to binge watch your videos. You persuaded me to buy the Art Nouveau set of Kuretake paints which arrived in the middle of me watching you here 😂. I’ve also saved the palettes you shared on Instagram. Keep them coming
Oooh how exciting! Have you tried the art nouveau set yet? 😍 I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos and palettes, thank you so much for being here! 🩵
I’m only about 1-2mins into video & wanted to say how much I liked how you swatched your markers to look like colourful books stacked on shelves in your gorgeous lil sized (A6) Talens Art Creations sketchbook! So cute… 🤩📚🩷
Awww thank you!! 🥰 I like that I did that too 🙊 Wouldn’t it be fun to do a big version and really theme it as a bookshelf!! Ideas for the future 😍 Thanks for watching! X
Hi . I’m new to your lovely channel . My favourite art supplies are Kuretake Granulating Aurora 5 price palette , Meeden , Daniel Smith pallet that I inherited from my artist 🧑🎨 mum as she didn’t really warm to watercolour as much as I have . She was more an oils , acrylics & pastels kinda gal & created a huge array of beautiful art that sold very easily to quite affluent People around the world even National Geographic Has five of her large Animal art pieces framed and canvases still circulating around the world 🗺️ in their world art exhibits as she Won the privilege by being chosen first place out of five top artist of Five states of each country to have five of their best Animal art pieces Chosen by national Geographic people themselves . Was quite an amazing day that day . I will never forget how proud myself & my dad was of her . These top artists of that Guild members of National Geographic were all gushing over her art . They really had a hard time minimising the choices down to five , as my mum had been painting since a young teen . And she was in her late 50’s when this happened . I was a in my twenties then about 30 years ago , and the funny thing was each of the of the lovely four guild Members wanted to choose an art piece for themselves to purchase for their homes 😊 by the end of that day we supplied morning tea , they ordered Lunch to be delivered for all of us & them to enjoy together we toasted to the art & artist 🧑🎨 then they left very happy with their choices & left the packaging required for the packaging people to turn up the following week to prepare mum’s chosen art to be professionally packaged up and ready to Be quarantined before it was joined along with the rest of the other states artist of Australia and the five other countries that was also chosen within that particular contest for that estimated exhibited time then they all ended up being owned by the World Art Museum . I forget were that was homed . Unfortunately 6 years ago my mum contracted Dementia and hasn’t even been able to pick up a brush 🥺 but she still has the occasional cognitive moment when I show her my art . And she starts giving me some art advice which I proudly take on board
Thank you so much for this comment! Your mum, what an incredible woman and artist. I can imagine how very proud of her you are and were 😍 what a fantastic day that sounded like and so lovely that her art is all over the world now. Do you enjoy acrylics and oils also or are you mostly a watercolour fan? I’ve dabbled in all of it but I always come back to watercolour! Great favourites by the way, especially the granulating Gansai Tambi! They are a lot of fun ☺️
Please guys DONT buy the art creation sketchbooks with pretty colors they cost the same or more and have worse paper whiter smoother and worse with water
Covers* all of the plain color ones are good but the ones with paintiongs roses or cork are bad
I think I’ve seen the art deco and cork one has the white paper in is that right?! It does look like totally different paper! Have you tried it?
@@Little_Ammy_ArtsKatie moody has a full comparison of the two on her channel

🥰🥰🥰
Omy gosh, me too !!!! I love getting new notebooks! I find any reason to get a new one❤😂 now I’ll be looking into sketchbooks. Never thought about that. Thank you❤ This was my first gouache set( the 5 count set) and it it’s perfect for me( I’m totally a beginner) I totally agree that less is more ( product quantity wise) when learning colors and creating in general. I have a color wheel so I really feel like my 5 set goes far for me. Your painting is beautiful ❤ thank you for such good info and review
No reason needed for me!! 😂 I do feel bad when I look at my pile full of unused sketchbooks though but I also feel happy 😆 I definitely need to work my way through them more. I’ve done better this year than other years so that’s a start! 😬 do you prefer normal gouache or acrylic gouache? Absolutely love working with a limited colour palette. Especially now with watercolours! A colour wheel is the best tool you can have 😍 thank you so much for watching I’m glad you enjoyed it! 💖
My favorites this year are my Daniel Smith watercolor pan set in the black palette box, Princeton Lauren brushes and Princeton Snap brushes.
A watercolour full house! I love my new Princeton Aqua Elite brushes 😍 and all my Daniel Smith watercolours! Current faves for sure.
Such a helpful tutorial. ❤ I’m new to watercolor painting( well painting in general) and I feel like I’ve learned so much . Thank you. I’m excited to sit down and replay this while doing it later❤
Ahh I’m so glad you think this is a helpful Tutorial! 🥰 I was starting to doubt this one and my tutorial making skills need some work 😅 this year I’d like to make way more watercolour tutorials!
@ that would be fun! I’m here for it😍💚
Can I ask why you would choose the gansai tambi kuretake art nouveau set over the bigger set? Also loving the work you showed in your sketch books x
Thank you I’m glad you enjoyed watching and seeing my sketchbooks! 🥰 So it just comes down to colours really. I think the art nouveau palette is so special with the muted almost autumnal colours and I just find myself using it all the time! 😍 the bigger 48 set is still lovely but I like how the art nouveau set is very unique.
Definitely love neocolor 2s and kuretake art nouveau palette. I have the 48 set but I don’t use it as much unless I’m doing a color cube project and it has a color that art nouveau doesn’t have. My other faves this year have been the Derwent chromaflow pencils, ink tense blocks, Faber castell gelatos, Tim holtz distress crayons, kuretake zig markers, Daler rowney acrylic inks, Molotow chunky nib markers, tombow dual brush pens, the Karin deco brush pigment pens and my Kissho Sabi Sumi palette. I could go on but let’s be honest I have a small art supply problem, but at least I’m using everything 😅. Thanks for sharing your faves, I’m excited for your separate video on your fave artbooks. Happy holidays!!
Same here! I use the art nouveau colours so much more than the bigger set! 😍 It’s a beautiful palette... Derwent Chromaflow! Great choice, I have a set of 24 of them and they are fantastic pencils 😍 I’d like to try the faber castell gelatos. Have you seen these tempera paint sticks people have been talking about? I fancy trying them too! I forgot about the Daler rowney acrylic inks! They might have been another honourable mention 😅 I also have the same art supply problem, yay! But it makes us happy and we use everything (nearly everything for me) 😆 Happy holidays to you too! Thank you for watching 🥰🩵
@ I haven’t used the tempera sticks. To be honest I don’t feel any desire for them because my gelatos and distress crayons have been so satisfying and fun to use.
That makes sense! 😄
Beautiful homemade journals. ❤ Great favorites video.
Thank you Miranda! I really enjoy your videos 🥰
I have the Jean Hanes in my basket ready to go(your link), and I can't wait to use them. My handmade sketchbook is purchased, and I'm even more ready to play with that too. My top art supply from 2024 is probably the Arrtx acrylic markers. They were brilliant fun, but VERY close on their heels is the Ohuhu Waterbased markers, which I started the year off with, and used for a solid 5 months or more. And close behind that is my Art Creations A6 sketchbook, which I bought on your recommendation and loved, and completely finished in 4 months, covering every single page with daily doodles of randomness. Thanks so much for your inspiring, fun and chatty videos. Theyre so nice to watch and listen to. Question - do you have any art goals for 2025? Mine is for my business, but second on the list is to be a bit bolder and try more mediums.
Oh Helen I think you will love them! 😍 The Jean Haines set was a life changing moment when I realised granulating paints were amazing and they’re not actually mostly dull colours like other brands I’d used! Good choice on the Arrtx markers. Fun is exactly how I’d describe them! I can’t believe how quick you finished your art creations sketchbook! I’m still yet to finish mine but just not feeling the pull to that one at the moment! Looking forward to filling my first watercolour book up though. Can’t believe I’ve nearly done that in 4 months! Less pages than the art creations though 😂 I do have art goals for 2025.. Mostly for my TH-cam channel and making this the best it can be and share more longer videos of painting and also some tutorials perhaps. But I go with the flow with the videos, just like I do with my art. I don’t like my creativity to feel pressure 😂 I also want to learn how to sketch better! So I don’t feel so stuck when it comes to drawing. A new daily habit is the plan ☺️ I can’t wait to see what you do next year now you’re back in your lovely home! 🏠🩵✨
🥰
I picked up a huge set of neocolors from facebook marketplace for a bargain, they really are the best aren't they 🥰
They are so much fun! 🤩 I love when you get a bargain like that. Makes it even better 😆💖
Great video ❤
I’m glad you enjoyed it, thank you!
This was a great video. Your list included all my favorites 😊 the ones I have and ones I have on my wishlist. I might have to show this to my kids before Christmas 😁
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it. I think there are a lot of popular favourites this year amongst artists 🙊 I’m seeing the Kuretake paints everywhere! I hope your kids get the hint! 😆
Personally, I love the rambling!
That is good to know! I don’t need an excuse to go on a ramble 😆
@ Hahaha, same here!!
This paint is not light safe, is it?
No I don’t think it is. I’ve seen some people do lightfastness tests online and they say some colours haven’t faded, but only after a few months! Going to do my own tests starting in the new year
I love to use my sketchbooks as half sketchbook, half scrapbook!!
I bet they are amazing to look through! 😍
@ they’re definitely super interesting, at the very least! Everyone I show loves them! :)<3
ii may be wrong, but ii've read gansai paints may use honey as part of their binder, hence the stickiness... ii experimented w/pan pastel colorless blender & a dense makeup/ink brush (soft, not stiff like stencil brushes) to prevent sticking... it works. lovely outcome, ty.
Interesting! I will have a look into that. I do have 2 big sets of pan pastels but no colourless blender 😅 I can see how that would work though! Thanks for the tip! X
I just found your videos and am loving them! I just got Daniel Smith’s Kyanite Genuine and it is amazing. It is a sparkly gray-blue that dries so gorgeously.
Oooh I will add that colour to my list! 🙊 It sounds beautiful! And thank you! I’m glad you’re enjoying my videos 🥰
I love your art this channel is very cool
Thank you Joe! 😁
Traditional japanese and chinese paints contain animal glue. There has been some confusion about the kuretake paints as some say they do not contain animal products, but they do. ( glycerine from bovine fat) This is what gives them the shine and 'stickiness'.
Interesting! I did try and do some research into it when I made a different video and I found conflicting information on whether the Kuretake paints contain animal glue. I was confused. I do have some other cheaper watercolours which have the same shininess. I guess that’s why I assumed it’s because there is way more binder or glue, or glycerin (still learning my terms) than the better quality watercolours.
Glycerin can be made out of other fats than animal fat. The glycerin I use is made from coconut oil.
This is reminiscent of your older watercolour succulents. I still have your beautiful print on my gallery wall, and the mug and coaster too (that went all the way to Asia with me. hehehe) I hate the way the gellyroll clogs so easily!
It is a bit! I have fully embraced this style again recently and have been thinking about my succulent painting 🥰 I hope the mug and coaster are aging well! Any fading?? 🤔
@Little_Ammy_Arts nope, none whatsoever 😍
this is fantastic, watched and enjoyed till the end ☺
Thank you very much Chantelle I really appreciate it 🥰🩵
Ooohhh, looking forward to your favorites video! I am so impressed with your brushwork on this painting -- there's no way that I could make those leaves+background with a perfect white border around each one. Bravo 👏
Ahh thank you! I love painting like this, with the white border. Reminds me of mosaics. Although it does require some patience! And a good white gel pen for mistakes 😆
Yes, i see your tiny bug friend. Lol. Love your dogs. I also have a chihuahua. They are so loyal. Your painting is nice. What a nice way to spend some time, out for a walk collecting leaves for art, then coming home and painting. With your dogs beside you. ❤❤❤❤ Karen from Canada
🤣 The little bug made me laugh while editing. That’s what happens when you use real nature for reference I guess! ☺️ I love my dogs, my best little friends. Nacho (the chihuahua) is definitely the most loyal to me. My little buddy. Sookie is quite old now, she doesn’t care about much other than sausages and napping. Very cute. Thank you so much for your lovely comment Karen! 🥰❤️
Hello i am in love with watercolor I have juste like a d subscrive Thanks 😊

Wow, so nice to see this come together. You're really inspiring me to get my watercolour paints out...but my painting wont be as good, so whats the point 😶 Daniel Smith are on my christmas list and I want all the colours pls 😏
Oh Helen, You will be fantastic at watercolour! You are so creative and great at everything you do! 😍 I’m trying not to be totally addicted to collecting all the Daniel smith colours 😅 I need to get a dot card so I can see which colours I want to fill my last 4 empty pans up with!
this looks fantastic! you're doing amazing, keep it up!! enjoyed till the end 🥰❤❤
Ahh thank you so much! I’m really Glad you enjoyed it 🥰🩵✨
I use this wee pencil case too, it's surprising how much u can get in it! Where u put ur hankies (the "flappy" centre bit) I put an A6 watercolour book too. I have everything in it! Lol 🎉 I also keep it packed so I can pick up and go 😅
It’s such a perfect little pencil case to grab and go isn’t it! 😍 I did try to fit my little sketchbook in here but it was not to be 😢 I did pack it to the brim though!
