This enduro mtb race in Scotland is small but mighty! | Pitfichie 2024
Hands down a race that is enjoyed by all - Round 1 of the Aberdeenshire Enduro MTB Series in Pitfichie, Scotland. Watch the POV footage from behind our bars and expect fast rough trails with granite rock, features and open moorland.
We have raced this venue a few times over the years and always find it one of the best in Scotland. The atmosphere is relaxed and fun which saw many riders entering their first enduro mtb race or first in a while. Not to be taken lightly though, this is a technical course, made even more so the faster you go.
Many of the mountain biking locations around here are maintained by the Aberdeenshire Trail Association and they do a fantastic job. The race had six stages, all different and each providing their own challenge.
Chapters:

Thornielee has a steep reputation but isn't all crazy... | MTB Scotland
มุมมอง 3.6K21 วันที่ผ่านมา
Thornielee has a reputation in the Tweed Valley for being one of the steepest MTB trail areas... we'll show you some of the friendlier trails you can hit though! South of the famous Innerleithen mountain biking mecca in Scotland, this hill boasts a number of really good shorter trails, all accessed by the same fireroad up. Expect technical sections, chutes and rocks. You'll experience the trail...
Bikepacking one of Scotland's more technical routes | Deeside Trail

In this adventure I take on the Deeside Trail, one of Scotland's more technical bikepacking routes with singletrack and MTB trails throughout. Starting from Banchory and doing a figure out eight through the Cairngorms, the route takes in mountain biking trails at Aboyne, Muir of Dinnet and Tarland, not to mention some amazing technical descents through Ballater and Braemar. I chose a short trav...
Scotland's Famous West Highland Way by Mountain Bike in over 24hrs

Taking on Scotland's famous West Highland Way long distance route by mountain bike. With some of Scotland's best scenery and connecting Glasgow to Fort William, it's obvious why this trail is so popular. We rode the route north to south, starting from Fort William in the Scottish Highlands itself. The plan was to do it all in one day but the weather was nice and it was best to get started the n...
Tweedlove British National Enduro at Laggan - the hardest in a while!
มุมมอง 3.6K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
4k POV race runs from Round 1 of the Tweedlove & British Enduro Series (BNES) at Laggan in Scotland. Situated in the Scottish Highlands, Laggan is a popular trail centre with a variety of natural enduro MTB trails too. This is the first year the Tweedlove Enduro Series is racing outside of the Tweed Valley and there was a lot of hype! Stages 1-3 were on gnarly natural trails followed by stages ...

The Other Side of Laggan Wolftrax MTB Trail Centre Demands Respect! Also known as the natural side, these Scottish enduro MTB trails are not part of the official mapped trail centre. Full of roots, rocks and slab features, these enduro style trails are hard! It's been a wet winter in Scotland and the trails are riding pretty slick. We rode most of the hillside and even the easier tracks are not...

You two are great. Stumbled across a few of your videos now. Love the vibe, two folk out having fun on their bikes. ❤
Do you know the name of the trails? Thanks
You very brave or very mad…keep safe.
Nice mates! Mountain biking in Scotland is my dream!
Well done on coming third, Laura! At least you had some dry trails for the race. Such cool trails at Pitfichie. I remember riding Devil's Staircase way back when they first built it (2001?) - pretty eye opening only having v-brakes and no dropper. Tombsteen has been such a good addition, and of course my favourite White Lady. For me no other trail is quite like it. Great seeing these trails in a good quality format (btw liked the cameo in the DoonThaBrae video as well, Laura 😁).
Thanks! Yeah we lucked out with the weather leading up to it. Oh wow I can imagine that would have been! I like all the varied sections on White Lady. Proper good trail. Glad you enjoyed it cheers! Hehe
Went to Thornielee in May for the first time - mint place and hardly anyone there! 👍🏻
Love it for this reason exactly!
@@LauraJaneWeeTamMTB right, plus the trails are epic!
Well done folks. Can’t believe trails were so dry then, I live 20mins from Pitfichie and everywhere been mud bath last couple weeks. I remember when macchiato was new and smooth and flow, it’s now chunky as, bent a crank one of last times I went down it.
Thanks! I know we really lucked out with the weather that week! Ah we were saying the same there - it’s changed so much it’s a totally different trail now! Super rough!
Visited for the first time around 2yrs ago, keen to get back sometime as a few trails were closed. White Lady was my favourite on the day, especially the top part in the heather!
Ah that might have been about the time when a couple of new trails were put in. That one is a great trail isn’t it!
Well done guys a great VLOG 👊
Thanks!
Switches the kettle on and mashes the 4k button !
Awesome 👊
15:41 I feel the frustration!! 😂 Really nice riding the both of u! I’m adding Scotland to the “riding bucket list” now. Stage 1 looks so choppy.
Hahah it was real! Cheers. This is our favourite spot up north. Absolutely love the tracks!
We had a choice of Llandegla, or Antur Stiniog recently, and went for the uplift option! But this looks like a good place to visit next time.
I would say a good choice going with Antur if you enjoy those trails - a lot more gravity and length! These are good for a more pedally day though and this Michelin one into the black is good fun!
Thank you for sharing some of the best locations in my beautiful green country.
It was a pleasure to ride in Slovenia. Truly beautiful!
From a post heart attack mid 60 year old man. Thank you for allowing me to join your adventure. Appreciated.
Ah I'm sorry to hear that. Appreciate the comment and glad you could enjoy the ride through our video!
What has my life become? Locked in a room in the rain stoned off my arse watching some Scottish woman review mountain bike shoes in a wooden shack? I don't even own a bike! Or feet!! I need to to go outside and touch grass man......
What's your brake setup? I think mine would have definitely overheated on those trails! Ha
We both run Hayes dominions. Used to be on Hope but finding these a lot more reliable and good modulation!
Proper trails up at Ae.
For sure!
where was that? looks like a tricky customer
This was at Glentress up at the mast. It sure was, hard to commit to at first!
Being a valley local I dunno if you've heard the rumour that Thornie might be getting flattened by forestry work...all of it. :(
Ah yeah I did hear a rumour a good few months back now but not sure if it’s certain. I hope it isn’t!
Thanks for sharing - really good to confirm that the trails at the top aren't crazily steep. I wasn't sure whether it was the famous GoPro flattening that made the trails look a bit less hairy. I stay abroad now but really want to get to these trails and Yair in the Tweed Valley when I'm back in Scotland sometime. So much to biking to choose from there!
Yeah the top ones are a nice gradient and not too techy for the most part, just really good fun. It is hard to tell with the classic go pro effect! Ah well I’d definitely recommend these southern tweed valley spots!
What tyres you running that were grippy?
The new Michelin wild enduro MS series
its a great place to ride, small area but trails are so good. good place to setup suspension as well.
Totally. Yeah actually it would be a good place for that with how easy it is to lap!
Skillfully navigated through the tech of Thornielee, always good to see the different trails you can ride here, these trails seemed to have became more popular recently, thanks for sharing!
Thanks! Yeah there’s plenty going on across the different trails! Do enjoy this place 😁
Hey there, great vid on Thornielee. I very recently watched your last one when you were there in the snow! Also visited this myself about 2 weeks ago and thoroughly enjoyed the place. I first saw your vids of this place 3 years ago, and it's taken me this long to work up the skill and courage do to them!
Thanks! That’s great to hear you went for it and enjoyed it! The trails are really good and a bit different 👌
When riding here what do you guys do to get to the top? Are you riding up?
We take a single shuttle up from evolve bike shop/finale bikers and then do a route from there taking in a few trails. Would recommend them!
@@LauraJaneWeeTamMTB excellent thanks very much for the info, riding looks fantastic! We are planning a trip here next year 😁
Ridden here once on a very tired set of legs! Cant wait to return! Great riding and great VLOG 👍
Haha the climbs aren’t forgiving for tired legs. Thanks, never a bad ride here!
Trails look in good condition and running well.. I'm still waiting to see a video on SNIPER at Yair
Yeah the ones we rode were running great. Ahah we do need to ride it sometime! It’s got quite the reputation!
Lovely vid , as always!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
Cracking vid guys nice ridin too. Awesome stuff n techy gnar. See you on the nxt 1 👏
Thanks! Yeah it’s a good place for fast techy trails!
Great place to ride, I think top dogging must be my favourite track
Isn’t it. Never had a bad ride there!
Rad
Laura, you are indestructible... Respect💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻🚴🏻♀️
Thanks ☺️
Yair?
Yep!
@@LauraJaneWeeTamMTB Awesome. I'm 5 miles away from it and have still to visit. We're gonna rectify that very soon.
This is for having a wee jobbie
Hi guys do you have a strava link for this ride pleases
Yep here you go. This is our Strava for just doing this mast side strava.app.link/4pask6y8HKb
Love your awesome videos, subscribe
Thank you! Glad you enjoy them!
Laura I think with one or 2 more goes. You would have got further. Laura your the winner. 😁😁😁
Haha I’ll take that 🤣
Another great video! I am going to do this very soon! - what tyres are you running on the bikes please?
Thanks! In this we were running the Michelin wild enduros but now running the Michelin ms tyres. Great for grip in all conditions! Enjoy when you go!
Is the guy Welsh, Zimbabwean or Russian? I'm usually pretty good with guessing accents, but this one keeps changing continents. That looked really tricky btw.
Zimbabwean is definitely a new one from guesses over the years 😂. It’s Czech Republic neutralised a bit with living in Scotland for so long. Yeah was a tough descent this one!
I was going to try to nail this in one day. Summer Puffer training 😂.
Haha good luck 🤣
Going for the first time this weekend, any tips?
Ah hope you had a good time! Can’t go wrong with most of the natural trails and dh track :)
Impressivley skilled riding whilst out bikepacking especially short travel on steep trails, was in Ballater last year yet to check out Aboyne. Great adventure and mix of trail types thanks for sharing! 😁
Thanks yeah it was testing in places! Aboyne is great and plenty more trails on the hill too. Glad you enjoyed it, was a fun one to film and edit!
A great big thank you guys for letting me enjoy a really hard and wet and technical ride from the comfort of my cycling couch.
haha you're welcome! Enjoyed sharing this amazing route!
Wow that looks so so hard wow
yeah it was a tough route especially having the weather to contend with!
3:00 Looks lovely. My idea of Heaven.
that was a goooood flow section! Enjoyed it a lot!
Some shift Laura!! Well done - fantastic!!👊
thanks it was a tough old route! Some good trails to keep the stoke up!
It was good to see a lot of my old haunts as I grew up in Tarland fifty plus years ago and as a boy cycled all over on my road bike from Aberdeen to Balmoral with a couple of friends but have always hankered to get out into the wilderness on a bike and explore some of the tracks I see travelling back to Deeside from the Central Belt that meander into the hills. I now have the perfect tool my eMTB but age is not on my side but not done yet I hope. I never really remember the Midge growing up that was until I moved to Kintyre and then on to The Isle of Lewis where they are bred differently so I felt your pain with the bites as they always seem to go for my mouth also and anywhere else that is exposed.
Lovely place to grow up. Thanks for sharing! Hopefully with the eMTB you can explore some of those routes! I'll definitely be doing some more up that way. Spectacular riding and views to match. Haha I can imagine the midgies are brutal there - they do say the west is on another level for them!
Thanks Guys Looks Brilliant Another great Video.
Thanks!
Well Done Laura Loved the video looks hard going.
Thanks! Yeah it was tougher than I expected!
Excellent video but oh my word those bites looked rough.
Thanks! Worst night of the year 😂
