You Have ONE Job: Don’t Go Over the Edge! An Exposed MTB Ride
Join us on an amazing MTB descent from the top of a mountain with an 800m descent in one go. An intense ride through the forest with a narrow trail and serious exposure!
This ride was also an adventure as before we descend, we stop by a monastery tucked in the mountains for some culture and a visit to a homemade food shop! The viewing points provide stunning scenery across the valleys.
The trail’s exposed top section added plenty scary moments to the ride- it's a long way to fall!. Watch as we navigate the trail, rocky chutes, and stunning scenery that makes it all worth it.
Ridden on a Vitus Sommet CRX and Vitus E-Sommet CRS

Clarkie gets around doesn’t he? Was he your guide out there? Used to work with him years ago
Haha he does. We were visiting him for a few days and he was kind enough to show us about. Lovely area!
did I miss it or is there no info on where this is?
it's at the start of the video on screen at the intro 👍 Grenoble in France
Would you say the rudder is the easiest of the three trails? (Obviously they all are pretty technical)
I’d say the crows nest is the easiest then the rudder and lastly the mast which is definitely the harder of them
Gee whiz, I think I'd have walked a bit more often than that one wee bit you did! Like ye say the trail wasn't that bad but the drop to side concentrates the mind. Looks like a really cool biking area though and something a bit different from the usual Alpine candidates in France.
it does - that drop changed everything! We'd probably still be rolling down if we'd gone over hehe. Yeah some great classic enduro trails in the area too. Was nice getting off the beaten track for a few days!
Great video. Certainly warmer-looking than Inners right now!
Thanks! Oh yeah 🥶🥶🥶
Luved it guy's looked amazing n awesome. Fantastic ridin guys xx
Thanks! Was a good different style of ride!
Flat white at the golfie, road it last week!✌️🏴
Nice! It’s so well built 👌 love it!
Flat white at the golfie, rod it last week!✌️🏴
Yeah, but where is it? 🤷
Innerleithen in Scotland 👍
Damn pedally stages. But really loong and harsh ones 👍
They were! Hard work!
Riding well Laura 👌🙌
Thanks! 😊
Still on the trail, I see... And it looks nice, thx 4 sharing 😉🚲✌️
Yeah a really fast fun trail!
What rain trousers are you using in those conditions? You have so many crazy "race-style" Trails 👍 I would love to see more like this in Germany as well - but it's getting better during the last years. The really hard stuff is still only at races or illegally "built" - and you have to find it. I hope some more German Ski-Areas will finally realize that there is not so much winter anymore and take bikers up as well...
We don’t use full waterproof because it gets too hot but some regular water repellant trousers work ok and you just accept getting a bit damp and muddy! It is very good in Scotland for natural riding - lots of recognised natural trails and good relationships with many land owners. We did a little riding in Freiburg and enjoyed it a lot! Would be nice to have more like that :)
Dont remember the last time I rode last fall. I mean, I remember it right up until the point I went headfirst over the handlebars into a berm.
Dunno like, broke my pelvis on my last one 😂😂
Pelvis 😱 oh that’s brutal! Hope you’re healing up well!
@ getting there thanks !
I am comparing these same 3 helmets and I absolutely cannot decide which to get! If one has to go, it would be the endura. So now it’s husband vs wife Smith vs ixs lol. Hard decision
Definitely a hard decision! Both are great helmets! Haha good luck with the choice 👍
I was marshalling at the tabletop on stage 2, didnt realise it was you until you were by me :)
Ah no doubt I was trying to get some air and failing 🤣
@@LauraJaneWeeTamMTB you were focussed on an overtake just after the corner :)
Well done on placing! Do enjoy riding Comrie been ages since last visited to get back cheers! 😁🤙
Thanks! Had been about a year for me. Good setup with the cafe and trails!
👏👏👏
🙌
Second place, well done good for you! Love Comrie Croft - just proper nadgery trails and never seem to get bored doing them even though there's not a huge amount of trails. Highly entertaining. Really good set up as well down at the bottom with the shop/eatery/cooperative and the campground. Last time I was there I saw some folks pretty hungover so think they do weddings too. Very cool place to visit.
Thanks! More nadgery than I remembered! Yeah the setup is great. I always like places with a good base and cafe - makes for a good day/weekend overall!
What a great, fun video! Makes me wanna ride with your group! The trails look awesome!
Thanks! We had a blast and glad it comes across. Always try to share the stoke in our vids 😁
00:26 Recognise that bloke 🤣 00:58 we past that wee dude too.
Hahah that was a scary wee dude!
Looks mint, how donthey record the times?
They use an air timing system so you wear a wristband and it triggers times when you ride past the posts at the start and end of each stage. Better than the old systems where we had to physically dib in and out of post!
I would never use standard allen key bolts on a wireless system..Always use 'security bolts'..Like locking wheelnuts on cars wheels....Ha!! I'll stick with my XT thanks...!!
Bit advanced for me. I’m still using the scrape you’re arse off the back tyre technique 😊
That also works 😂
My favourite mtb location Real tech and steepness everywhere Not one trail disappoints on that hill
Absolutely. Couldn’t wait to go back as soon as we left
These trails are absolutely incredible, always love riding Aboyne, it’s so unique! Well ridden guys, some very tricky conditions right there. Those trails are hard enough when it’s bone dry - hats off! ❤
They really are. Already can’t wait to go back! Thanks, yeah not the easiest to ride in! Hopefully it’s dry next time!
Real woman right there! Love it to see more lasses on the bike's actually nothing better than having them in your team tops that is! Bloody some balls tae thats for sure😂
Yeah always good to have more women on bikes! 👌
Master blaster into shwing yeah get that right right 😂
What are the E Wilds like any good? Worth swapping out magic mary n big Betty?
Never ran a magic Mary I’m afraid! I actually just run the Michelin wild MS now which are good for ebike and regular. Amazingly grippy!
Tarland is so good 🔥🔥🔥
It is! 👌
While flying down deliverance one summer afternoon I got stung in the chest by a wasp, kinda Knocked me off my stride 😂. A.j who built many of the trails around there does a fantastic job. He was also the creator of ''Doon the Brae Enduro events around Aberdeenshire. While you're in the area check out Heartbreak Ridge and Mastermind in Ballater, you won't be disappointed.
Oh no 😂 I can imagine! Ah didn’t realise A J was involved there. We rode with one of the other builders, super nice and great trails! Yep we’re familiar with those and they’re also well worth it. Last time it chucked it down when we were up on heartbreak ridge so looking forward to a drier ride next time with less rush to get down!
@LauraJaneWeeTamMTB Need an ebike to get two three runs in down HBR. One went down Mastermind and unknowingly had my fork locked, fastest I've ever gone down it ???????
🫣🫣🫣🫣🫣🫣damn, I'm surprised it's even possible to ride on such a difficult route... respect for your profession.
Thanks, yeah some tricky sections and trails! 🙌
You mentioned the doggy care for your lovely wee dog, is this a commercial dog sitter? do you have any details for this?
Yep she’s a 10 min drive from finale and has an outdoor base with regular clients/dogs coming haha. We managed to get ours in for a few days. She’s called doggyranchasilopercani on instagram and if you search the same on google you’ll get her details and phone no etc. She’s lovely and a qualified dog trainer :)
Those rocks features at 02:42 😱😂 then the slab at 05:35 some really spicy stuff up in Aboyne skillfully riden thanks for sharing! 😁🤙
Yeah some intimidating features and sections! Was a good buzz in the group and definitely helped! Thanks!
Fantastic video and great riding! I have a score to settle with the Deliverance slab! Messed up the new GoPro settings on that day so not really useable but stopped all alone by myself for a look at the top "Hell's Bells I Ain't Doin' That!"......"Holy Moly that is the steepest thing I've seen! Rediculous, absolutely rediculus!" Enduro newb reaction 🤣 . Loved the rest of the trail, great place on my journey to learning enduro riding. Next time the blacks and slab re-match!
thanks! Don't blame you - i had the same first thoughts. If I (Laura) had been on my own hadn't seen the group doing it I don't think I would have given it a go! It's intimidating! Definitely a great place to improve riding skills
The first section with all the steep switchbacks reminded me of Win Hill. Looks like an epic area 👊
Good area to ride😎
absolutely!
Looks ridiculously hard but fun
Definitely. A lot of buzz at the end of each one!
Aboyne has fantastic trails and I haven't even ridden them all yet
It really does! Did a few mellower ones earlier in the year which were super too. Great variety 👌
So good you guys could come and play on some of what Aboyne has to offer😬👍
Loved it 😉. Can’t wait for another trip sometime!
Great VLOG guys fantastic trails and smiles! Muddy asses too 😂
Thanks! These trails definitely gave us a buzz! Haha 🤣
Nicely done 😊. Still not popped over to try Deliverance yet. Done schwing a few times and twisted sister. But avoiding “reaper” that looks super scary 😂.
Thanks! Yeah I’ve heard that one is really tough and committed! We swerved it on this ride but might have a look in next time 😬
Absolute tech fest
Totally! Lots going on!
Well Done to the whole group on this one, trails are great mix of flow-tech with some intimidating features.
Spot on - it had a bit of everything. Can’t wait to ride there again. Really well built trails!
Class vid guys that was epic. Respect to the trail builder Fantastic trails Sir .
Cheers! Yeah absolutely, really nice guy and an amazing builder 🙌
Looks epic! 👍👊
Can’t wait to ride there again 👌
What a place, it’s mega. I can’t wait to return next year. Great video
Thanks! Can’t wait to return already as well!
That muddy bottom tells a story of many trips and slips 🤣
Haha no slips actually, just classic Scottish riding 😂 mud levels are mad all autumn/winter!
Great results to you both 🤘🤘
Thanks!
Looks sweet! I am keen on organising a trip with a small group, maybe 4/5, next April, for 4 or 5 days to celebrate my 60th!! Was wondering what you’d recommend in terms of single shuttles or multiple or even private shuttles? Mostly non-ebikes in group. What shuttle companies did you use? Do they do the same trailheads or different? Appreciate you aren’t a travel company 😂, but finding it difficult to find information online for how to best organise. I know Atlas Ride Co. will do packages with uplift, but I think I prefer the flexibility to look for my own accommodation and shuttles. Happy shredding
Nice one! Hahah no worries, we found it hard to plan our first trip there a few years back. If you have a group id recommend a mix of private shuttle for a few days then maybe some days doing single shuttles once tou know the way about. We have used both Evolve bike shop (also called Finale Bikers) and also Freeride Finale. We found Freeride finale a bit more organised and shuttles more often! I would get in touch with them and see if private is possible as it’s ideal if they can take you about for the day. We typically book a single shuttle in the morning and again in the afternoon. You just pedal along to their base and go from there. Means it’s quite flexible and you can pick times that suit you! They have a few stops - one near some blues (Isallo that we rode here but big pedal out without ebike or the private shuttle), then Melogno (for rollercoaster and Madonna side) and Base Nato. You just tell them which you fancy. It’s a great setup! And single shuttle is about £10!
Really appreciate that information. Love your videos and can relate completely to the stuff you like riding. It’s precisely what our ‘gang’ love. Keep enjoying. 👌🏼
Just saw this! No problem. Thanks really nice to hear!
