- Join us on a ride of the renowned Dunkeld Mast MTB Trails in Scotland as we seek to answer the question many riders ask before visiting: Are these trails too hard for me? They have a reputation in Scotland for being tough but are some of our favourite trails to ride in the area. In this MTB vlog, we’ll share the stoke and sketchy moments as we ride them from an average rider perspective.

Link to the Hermitage/Craigvinean trails: • Scaring Myself on Dunk...
From long steep descents, tight switchbacks and technical sections, we’ll showcase the trails that make Dunkeld a must-visit destination for mountain biking in Scotland.
Captured on Go Pro, we share different rider POV from both of us on the trails at Newtyle Hill, also known as the mast. The scenery is beautiful and the descents are unique. Whether you're an experienced rider or a beginner looking for your next adventure, hopefully this video will help you get a feel for the difficulty of these Scottish MTB trails. Great riding in some nice weather!
You'll be please to know that there are public dig days being organised for mid May and start of June getting the trails ready for a summer of riding.
Also for easier trails, try Birnam Hill, particularly the three flow trails above the train station. We've been working hard to get them clear of fallen trees and establish diversions!
Easier trails also include Hush Hush, Otters Pocket, Scooby Doo, Dalmarnock Descent, Mutt House, Doggy, Sophia and PGL so easily a full day for intermediate riders but check trailforks for up to date info on any closures.
Always worth popping into Progression Bikes for local knowledge and advice too.
Enjoy and have fun!
Thanks, it was a super weekend! We’re not there often but always enjoy it when we do visit.
Really good info, thanks for commenting! I’ve pinned the comment so it can be useful to anyone watching the vlog. It can be hard on a first visit to know the easier trails and link them up so some good trails/advice there!
@@LauraJaneWeeTamMTBGreat stuff. Give me a shout next time you are up, or want to plan a trip and we can link up some of those trails. I've got the bike shop (Progression Bikes) and help run the Tayside Trails Association.
thanks! We're pretty familiar with the hills directly around Dunkeld but keen to venture over and explore Dalmarnock sometime - rode the descent trail but heard there are lots more good trails in there! May take you up on that :)
From a post heart attack mid 60 year old man. Thank you for allowing me to join your adventure. Appreciated.
Ah I'm sorry to hear that. Appreciate the comment and glad you could enjoy the ride through our video!
I love Dunkeld. So many fantastic trails and spectacular views too. Ive not done the trails at the mast yet, dont think Ive the skill at the moment. Great seeing you guys flying down them. Great video as always. 🤙😃
Absolutely. There's such a variety of trails. Glad the vid gives an idea of what to expect from the mast - one of those locations that always had a bit of a rep. Thanks!
Really enjoyed this one. You guys were smashing those trails 👌
Thanks! Absolutely love the mast trails 😍
Great edit guys! Hopefully the weather is here to stay!🤙

@@LauraJaneWeeTamMTB yw guys
Oh no! My last time in scotland I passed dunkeld on my way up north without knowing there were such nice trails😢…Need to come back asap
Ah that’s a shame. Problem is there are so many good spots in Scotland now it’s hard to choose! Definitely worth a stop next time! Good excuse for another trip 😉
Not ridden rudder (yet) but I loved slaters. And everything else there is awesome too!
ah you're in for a treat if you enjoyed Slaters then. It really is - absolutely love Dunkeld!
Wow these look gnarly. So looking forward to riding there at some point e point
Yeah it’s a really good riding spot! Plenty tech!
Nice video, going to start doing a bit of this in the Lakes 😊
Oh nice! The lakes are beautiful!
Very, Laura Jane!
Good lord... There's definitely a learning curve on this one.
Yeah they’re quite intense!
Love these sort of trails, techy and grooty!
same, our ideal style of trails!
Glorious natural trails 😍
some of our favourites in Scotland!
These trails are absolutely savage! Great riding, just take your brain out 🙈
Thanks yeah they’re pretty full on and that’s it dry 😅
Hi guys do you have a strava link for this ride pleases
Yep here you go. This is our Strava for just doing this mast side strava.app.link/4pask6y8HKb
I’ve never liked the mast trails personally. Especially in the summer when really overgrown. It’s like a game of Russian roulette or when the next drop or obstacle is coming
That actually brings back memories of sketchy summer rides there haha. Bit too much risk when it's like that. They are running really well now though - probably best in spring or autumn then!
Love it chunky and tight 😍
Yep so good!!
in life there is a point where difficulty crushes joy , unless of course you are a masochist .
How do you not get helmet hair??? 😯
Haha trust me I do 😂 might have got lucky here 😅
Is that recent? Those trails look way drier than Calderdale right now!
Yep the weekend just there. Haha we went in expecting the opposite and it was a nice surprise! Must drain well as they’re steep and rocky
@@LauraJaneWeeTamMTB wow, lucky you two!
We are heading up that way in the camper next week, fingers crossed 🙏
Electric bikes !!!
Only one 😉 yep
Boring
And surprise, others didn’t find it boring. No one is making you watch it 😉
I never find watching people live life to the full boring.
