Which Camino Is For You? Comparison of The Camino Frances vs. The Portuguese Coastal (Min Distance)
How to choose the best Camino route for you. In this video we compare the traditional Camino Frances (aka The French Way) to the less traditional Portugues Coastal route, both lead to the Cathedral in Santiago de Copostela, Spain. Whichever route you take, pilgrims are required to walk at least 100 km (60 miles) to receive your official "Compostela" or document that certifies you have completed the Camino de Santiago. Your proof is based on stamps that you receive along the way on your "passport" also called the Pilgrim Credential.
We compare the last 100 km for two popular routes:
1. Sarria to Santiago on the French Way, also called "The Way"
2. Vianna Do Costello to Santiago on the Portuguese Coastal Camino.
We answer some of the most popular questions, like:
Which route is easier?
Which one has the most interesting sites?
Are there more or less people?
What are the accommodations like?
Is the path easy to follow?
Which is better for solo pilgrims?
Come along with us while we answer these questions and many more. We want your Camino experience to be memorable, enjoyable, and give you everything you expect as you walk the Camino de Santiago.

Very informative
Thank you for watching! Glad we could help
Thank you for this informative video. Airbnb, VRBO are hit and miss at best. Reviews are often misleading and properties not always as nice as advertised. Good to know that there are alternatives. Thanks so much Chris & Chris!
Our pleasure!
I’m debating taking same cruise you both did. Island princess to 🇨🇦 🇬🇱 aug 2025. I’m scared b/c I read some cruises miss 🇬🇱 ports due to weather and icebergs. I don’t care too much if we miss 🇨🇦 but I’d be upset if 🇬🇱 missed. What month did you sail? how was weather? Did you see northern lights? Thanks in advance
We sailed in August. Did all ports. No northern lights. We had three ports in Greenland which was nice in case we did have bad weather... But we didn't. Bon voyage!
Excellent video. Very helpful.
So glad it helped!
THIS is a library!
Totally!
I would love to get citizenship by descent but my ancestors were too adventurous! My father’s family came to the “new world” in the 1700s and my mother’s relatives came over in the early 1800s.
Wow. That's incredible. It's hard to find where they kept records even 100 years back.
Hello, I’m from Saudi and watched the end of your video where you talked about it. First: Welcome to Saudi! Second: Thank you for your kind and thoughtful words. Third: I hope you visit again-there are incredible places here like Petra and more. Thanks for the information, and great video! I’ll be taking my first Repositioning cruise soon!
Thanks! We loved Saudi.
I'm looking into travel insurance. Recently got a quote from IMG Global Hopper Senior Single Trip at $2200 Annually. Is that really the going rate these days? Seems kinda steep. What are some other options?
Try Genki. www.Genki.World/eatwalklearn
How awesome! I loved this video and all the details. Sounds like a hike that might be too difficult for me, so I love going along on your adventures. I kept thinking the whole time that I'd like to know how your knee is holding up, Chris! I feel I'm headed toward some kind of knee procedure, so I'm always keen to follow along on that progress.
Glad you enjoyed it! I've got an update video you should watch. My knee is great.
@@EatWalkLearn I did watch the video when you posted, but was wondering if there has been any change or update to the update, especially as you continue hiking. I only dream of hiking. I'm SO glad that your knee is still going strong. This gives me hope.
People are being blocked because google voice is US based. When you are outside the US longer than 6 months or so. google will get the opportunity to block you.
You're thinking of Google Fi, not Google voice. We've been on GV for 4 years abroad with no problems.
@@EatWalkLearn search in youtube for: How We Resolved Our Suspended Google Voice Account. Google say it's against their policy to use gv longer periods outside the us, expect you can be blocked. But of course if you like taking to risk loosing your number it's up to you. I just have put my number on T-Mobile pay as you go plan and pay $24 a year for it. It's a small price for all the hassle you need going through when you get blocked. Because most of Google's services are region specific.
Putting this on my hiking list for next time I'm in southern Turkey. Thanks for sharing!
Have an amazing hike!
Can you comment on getting the same car you picked. We may do some car camping on our trip and so want a car similar to the Citroen Burlingo. My concern, as with rental companies, is that they may not work very hard to have the exact car you chose and "upgrades" may be to something that gets horrible fuel economy or is too big for Europe, etc. In your research, did you find that TT guarantees the car you choose? Is it more of a guarantee because it is technically a lease/purchase? Thank you -
TT gave us the exact car we requested. You actually "buy" a particular car with its VIN.
So basacly i can wave them anywgere and theyll stop?? Thank you 😊
Yes
@EatWalkLearn thank you for the info 💚
A colossal thanks for this informative video. Most grateful.
Glad to have helped!
Just found you and am really enjoying your videos. I really love how you make friends everywhere you go. Thanks so much!
So glad to have you along!
New subscriber. I really enjoyed your video and plan to visit Chania in March 2025. You provided so much valuable information and resources. Thanks so much!
Have a great time
Very timely video for us as we are in Antalya, headed to Fethiye soon. Researching now for various segments to explore - and possibly do the hang gliding!
Have an awesome time!
Thanks so much. This has been most helpful.
Glad to help
Great video describing a perfect day! The details will surely help others plan this ideal day hike from Fethiye to Ölüdeniz, or vice versa from Ölüdeniz to Fethiye.
So glad to have you along for the hike
4:43 how did you fix your mistake of getting Google voice after leaving the States? Asking for a friend that already left the US
You must get GV in the states
@ thanks. So, A VPN didn’t work? You have to physically be in the US?
Great video, guys. We haven't been to Turkey yet. And plan to visit in 2026. Thank you 😊
Have fun!
I enjoyed this fun, relaxed format. Thanks!
Glad you liked it!
Best video y'all have done recently! Loved everything about it. Think this place is on our list now. 🎉
We’re so glad!
So I am already overseas and just realizing I can do this....will I have to send my US phone back to my daughter in the states to set this up?
You must be in the States to start GV
For USAA, Not true anymore. 1% foreign atm fee for checking. USAA credit card no foreign fee.
Ok
JUST now research. Only World checking is free foreign atm from 😢AXOS with a 75,000 min balance. Their other Rewards check account is free domestic only, 1% foreign.
We really enjoyed Calis Beach, with a long promenade with restaurants and shops a little more laid back beach town. We were there in September 2023. Towards the end of the “boat trip” season which was very nice, we went twice. Swimming in those waters were warm (September)crystal clear and a lovely way to spend a day. Loved the fresh markets! Nice day in Karakoy, top of the mountain was fascinating to be and watch the daredevils! also the Olundeniz was interesting but happy we didn’t stay there. The people in the area were lovely, genuine and accommodating. We also had a great month here.
Sounds perfect
Hi Guys. Thanks for the great information in this video. It is very thorough. We are looking for a non Schengen country in 2025 to hop over to after spending 3 months in Portugal. We crossed Fethiye, Turkey off of our list because I found some sites that listed Turkey as part of the Schengen zone. From this video, it seems that Turkey IS NOT part of the Schengen zone?
Right. Turkey is not in Schengen
What are you using for insurance? Interesting you got reimbursement
Genki. Lmk if you want a referral link. In KL, we had IMG.
My husband and I (also fulltime travelers) were there in November. I think I saw you on walking on the promenade. I thought I recognized, but wasn't sure. Sorry I missed meeting you!
Same!
Axos and fidelity only give unlimited refunds on domestic ATM fees not international ATM fees
That has not been our experience
Upon further research I see that it's axis bank not axios.. my bet😌
@@sensi37 AXOS
Get a Charles shawb debit card.. zelle yourself or money gram to deposit to account then take it out of the local ATM bank of the country you get a better exchange rate you can check Visa exchange rate and Charles schwabs will be refund all charges for ATM fee
How did you go to Rhodes when you had run out of time in Schengen zone.
You can't. We still had 12 days left of Schengen.
Where did you find that hat that your ponytail comes out the back? You were wearing it while walking through the water. I need this!!
It's the best hat ever! amzn.to/3ViWhA8
I think I was in Turkey around the same time as you. I considered meeting you when you were in Izmir, but I got a bit busy. I stayed in Turkey for almost two months, traveling across the country, and ended my trip in Antalya. Originally, I planned to stay for three months, but I could not handle the secondhand smoke. It felt like almost everyone smoked, and it was difficult to breathe fresh air without being exposed to tobacco.
Oh I wish we would have met up. Yes, the smoking is off the chain in Turkey. It's awful, sadly. We avoided the coffee shops and did our best to stay away from it.
Fethiye looks like an exciting place. We recently arrived in Antalya, and were surprised to find our VPN won’t connect. Turns out, It’s a country policy being enforced. Did you encounter VPN issues as well?
Yes, we could not use our VPN either (we mention this elsewhere.)
Good video. . . It’s on our list. . .
enjoy!
Dave and I watched this together and enjoyed it. We'd love to get to Turkiye some day.
Circle a date on the calendar!

This is a great informative video and as I was watching it I was thinking that’s way outside my budget but was very pleasantly surprised. I just checked out your accommodation costs and based on that you only spent $853 for 26 days on all your food, entertainment, SIM cards, transport, travel/health insurances - would that be correct ?
Yes
@ that’s great to know thank you
Thanks for sharing 👍 So much information. Are both of you vegan/ vegetarian? My biggest concern when we start slow traveling is staying Carnivore and making sure none of my food is cooked with seed oils.🤔 🛢 $2413💰 For everything you talked about. What a bargain. Between just rent, electric, and internet we spend a little over that here in Central Florida each month. 😮 Thanks again for being such a motivating couple. 💪👍🌞
Chris is vegan/veg. Steve eats chicken occasionally. It's def harder in some countries than others to eat particular ways. Yes, nomad life is quite affordable.
Great information. Can you provide the address of the hospital and the place where you stayed ? Did you do Airbnb? Please and thanks.
The hospital is Private Lokman Hekim Esnaf Hospital +90 252 612 64 00 g.co/kgs/FVd7JTp . We stayed at a place we found on Booking, but it's not available now on Booking. If you're on Facebook, check out the group Nomad Accomodations Review, where we discuss it and contact info.
Very helpful
Glad to hear that
Super helpful, thanks
You're welcome!
10:02 Did not know that about non owner driver insurance will put that in our notes.👍 Do you find you're still around the same for 2024 on total spend
Wonderful. Yes.
Cutie!
how beautiful ❤
Those 3 you mentioned are non traditional banks. There are traditional banks that do not charge exchange fee. I know PNC bank does not charge conversion fee for money withdrawn abroad. The ATM operators may charge a dollar or two, but the bigger expense is the conversion fee your bank charges. Capital One credit cards do not charge any conversion fee for charges occurred abroad. They use the XE published daily conversion rates. You can bring cash to some countries where the exchange rate is very good, close to XE rate with no fees. Like in London, also in Istanbul Turkey where you get excellent rate at the Grand Bazaar. In short, bring a capital one credit card and then inform your credit card company of your travel plans so that they would know you are using the card in that foreign country, also ask your bank if they charge a conversion fee if you use the ATM card outside. Several banks do not charge conversion fee. We generall bring some cash just incase our credit card or ATM cards run into unexpected problems. We change a small at airports upon arrival, just enough for taxi or other expenses before getting to hotel. And then find a good exchange place in the city. You can google for these info for any city.
Now do "Man Picks Irish Handcuffs". 🍻
Thanks 👍 They both seem very in-depth . I wonder how much Turkey's inflation issues effected the higher cost. Still both are night and day different from getting something similar done State side. Question..... Have you ever done a video on the shots you needed to get before you started your slow travel journey?
Thank you. I suspect the Turkish prices is higher because they are targeting Brits. Their prices are in pounds. We have not done videos on our vaccines. We did get yellow fever, typhoid, hep abc in Malaysia
