If at all humanly or inhumanly possible, hockey players finish their shift, the game and the series. Ice Hockey is rated as the SECOND most difficult and tough sport, just behind boxing. Less than a 1% difference between the two. It is followed by football, mma....but who really cares about that. Each game is a full 60 minutes, made up of three 20 min periods. The clock is stopped when game play is halted. To answer the question about who long do pitchers play for. Fist off there are two types of pitchers, Starting(SP) and Reliever(RP). Starters begin the game and Relievers finish the game. A full healthy season for a pitcher is about 25 to 30 starts, averaging around 90-100 pitches a game. A full season of healthy pitching would yield about 180-210 innings pitched or about 3,000 to 3,700ish pitches a season per Starting Pitcher). Some pitchers will play for 15+ seasons, sometimes more. Pitchers are throwing much much less nowadays but I find it balanced with pitchers throwing harder than ever before. Most pitchers have to eventually get a surgery called Tommy John that takes a 12 to 18 months to heal from. This is due to the high velocity, extreme twists and flicks they do for off-speed pitches, and longevity/health.
