Also remember that play doesn't stop until there is a whistle. I've seen stretches of 5+min of play uninterrupted.the players only are out there for 30 seconds at a time and then rotate out for another line to go out and match against their fresh line. Most teams have 3 lines that they rotate.

the location of teams doesn't really matter because the teams select through trades and draft picks

The NHL has 32 teams. 7 of them are Canadian, the rest American. As far as international play goes it’s the same 5 teams that are always good for the most part. Canada, USA, Finland, Sweden and Russia. Been a few others as well but I’d say that’s the top 5 hockey countries.

The shootout was introduced in the NHL in 2005. They're only used to decide regular season games if it's still tied after regular time and overtime.
In the playoffs, they just keep playing 20 minute overtime periods until somebody scores.

I think they did change the rules so you can't spin around during the shootout, I could be wrong about that though
Also I feel like everyone is going to suggest it, but you should react to Connor McDavid. He's the best hockey player currently playing in the NHL. Career highlights or even just highlights from last season (he had some crazy goals last year)

Just check out best NHL goalie saves and you’ll feel significantly less bad for the keepers. Those guys are ridiculously good

NHL is made up of 7 Canadian teams and 25 American teams. All teams are competitive, and any team can win on any given night, even the bottom team can beat the top team if they have a good game. If you go to a hockey game, it is CONSTANT action. Yes, these are top-notch highlights, but a general game is extremely entertaining from beginning to end. Very fast-paced and physical all game long. You might see a fight (50% chance) and definitely will see a couple big hits, sweet goals, and more. Hope you get out to a game sometime, there is a league in the UK, the EIHL which usually has a few ex-NHL players so it is really good competition.
