To answer the question about who long do pitchers play for. Fist off there are two types of pitchers, Starting(SP) and Reliever(RP). Starters begin the game and Relievers finish the game. A full healthy season for a pitcher is about 25 to 30 starts, averaging around 90-100 pitches a game. A full season of healthy pitching would yield about 180-210 innings pitched or about 3,000 to 3,700ish pitches a season per Starting Pitcher). Some pitchers will play for 15+ seasons, sometimes more. Pitchers are throwing much much less nowadays but I find it balanced with pitchers throwing harder than ever before. Most pitchers have to eventually get a surgery called Tommy John that takes a 12 to 18 months to heal from. This is due to the high velocity, extreme twists and flicks they do for off-speed pitches, and longevity/health.

Some of the most common speeds are 140kph which I think is mid 90s in mph. The fastest pitch ever was 105.8mph (170.27 kph) thrown by Aroldis Chapman who threw consistently over 100 mph

There are 5 starting pitchers and 7 or 8 relief pitchers on each team.

Starting Pitchers are looking to last as long as they can and complete games are not uncommon, and on average throw 80-100 pitches per outing. Starters are typically on a 5 day rotation, meaning they have 5 Starters and after you pitch you typically have 4 games off until your next outing. Relief pitchers are broken up between long relief and short relief(closer). Long relief will come in when the starter is tired and will try to end the game but at least get into the 8th or 9th(final) inning, then the closer usually specializes in finishing the game and usually in tough situations. Relief pitchers depending on how much they throw can throw multiple days in a row for just a couple of innings each day.

Pitchers pitched every 5 days with side work on their off days most pitchers are shooting for at least 5 inning per outing obviously some with pitch deeper into games some won’t. Depending on health and durability pitchers can pitcher for years some extreme cases you can see pitchers such as Nolan Ryan, Jaime Moyer, Randy Johnson pitcher 20+ years. The current pitcher that’s closest to that is Justin Verlander who at age 39 pitched one of his best statistical years and is still making hitters look foolish.

Some pitchers have enough gas in the tank to pitch all 9 innings, and some are at least trying to make it to the 5th inning

The pitch at 1:08 when you asked "how slow was it for him to miss it?" was a knuckleball. Very rare pitch and usually there's only one or two knuckleball pitchers in the MLB at one time, sometimes none. Most pitches benefit from high speed and RPMs. However, knuckleballs are meant to have zero spin, and the raised seams of the baseball cause the ball to "dance". Knuckleballs move randomly in all directions and are thrown a lot slower because it allows them to dance more and harder to hit. Even the pitcher doesn't know which direction the ball will move. The catcher will usually change gloves to a less padded but larger glove since the ball is slower but has a less predictable flight path. That particular pitcher was R. A. Dickey, but Tim Wakefield made it to the Hall of Fame as a knuckleball pitcher.

Pitchers usually pitch 5 or 7 innings once every 5 games for the exact reason you're saying. Also, I think you probably know cricket (I don't know as well) but most of these pitches would be spinners, not fast pitchers. Fast ball pitchers usually can get up to around 160 kph

Usually if a pitch is called nasty pitch. That ball is not a fastball. They are pitching breaking balls.

multiply by 1.6 to get kilometers also there are videos on youtube that teaches the different types of pitches. Many of these are very slow, MLB speeds are 85 to 100 mph,a team has many pitchers for a game 100 pitches is typically the max the manager allows a pitcher to throw.

bro doesn’t know shit abt baseball and knows pitching cannot be good for health 😂 love the content bro cool to see an aussie exploring baseball without knowing anything abt it and you’re right most pitchers don’t make it through a career of more than a 5-7 years without needing at least some surgery

Most of these were curveballs. Not fastballs. Fastball is around 90 mph 145 mph. These were in the 75 range which is 121 kph.
