I use to work this way but I feel like it's not my favorite workflow personally. I was exactly working on basketball events with 7 hours of rushes. Method 1 : I was creating IO points, use a shortcut to convert them into duration marker, and another shortcut to tag them (dance, laugh, public, player, shot, dunk etc) and use smart bins to regroup by tag. Method 2 : same thing but with subclip. Method 3 : creating timeline stringouts with a scene number. Scene number by theme replacing the tagging stuff I was doing. Scene 2 = dance, scene 6 = dunk, scene 5 = showcase and so on. I think I found subclips can be messy with lots of rushes but I don't have yet a strict close advice on this.

Dear Joshua, I have two questions for you: 1. my reference monitor is calibrated AdobeRGB. Which setting should I use to work on the timeline? Rec.709? Davinci does not have AdobeRGB setting but only sRGB... 2. if in my pipeline I set rec.709 as output but my work is intended for cinema, is it sufficient to change from rec.709 to DCI-P3 at the time of delivery, or does it create problems? Thanks for any response and compliments for your masterclasses. Giorgio.

Thanks so much for the info. I have a question: when using your method, how do you know if your grade is being applied to the davinci WG gamut, and not to the rec709 colourspace? I only have experience using CSTs so can control where my final rec709 output is, and can make sure I’m only applying my grades to the Davinci WG gamut that I declare as the first node in my workspace.

Great video man. I've been looking for something similar to Final Cut Pro's "Favorites" system when organizing, and I think this may be exactly what I'm looking for. I was creating timelines for selects and it honestly felt so clunky and inefficient.

Thanks for explaining this process. I'm new to color grading. Most of my work is with timelapses created from still images. I process them in Lightroom and output a video file in LR Timelapse. Can this footage be color managed, and if so, what input color space should I set?

Great video! Thanks for sharing. I have a question. What is the workflow with the audio from the video clips? I do it like this: First I sync the audio that the sound engineer gives me, then in the clip attributes I choose a channel to be able to edit, but then I would like to recover all the channels of the clips that were left in the timeline so I can send them to the sound post in ProTools. That's where I have problems, how do you do it? Thank you very much.

Just started watching this, but I have watched over 100's of videos this last couple of weeks and trying to get my head around what is the proper color management workflow. I work 99%of the time with my own Sony Slog 3 cine clips and just need the basic proper workflow from with in Davinci to do basic color grades. But there are so many dang options and every time a try one or the other I do not get good result. I also would prefer Not to use the CST In and CST out ob my node tree and work between that but seems the only way to not let Davinci take over my color management.. Thank you

Why would you not just Record longer Clips? seems like everey 20-30sec there is a cene you use or atleast want to have recorded. isnt it easyer to only stop recording if you know the next 30 sec wont be a new scene you need? or is it a storage problem?

So I tried this and it worked well. My imaged rendered better but why is this the case? I want to know why rec709-a is better than rec709 gamma 2.4 or gamma 2.2. Why do all colorist teachers say to use gamma 2.4 or 2.2. I understand the uses of 2.4 and 2.2 but if A makes the image look better then why am I now learning this.
