  • Remote Monitor in Davinci Resolve Studio allows you to livestream your programme monitor (video window) across the internet to anyone with the Remote Monitor App. This is an awesome way to collaborate with clients and get real time feedback on edits and colour grades.

    You will damage your eyesight by watching monitors in pitch black w/o a constant other light source which would protect your eyes from rapidly changing pictures. It's the same as in old days people loved to watch the TV in black room but ended up with poor eyesight. The problem is the pupil changes rapidly to the changes on screen and you will damage your eyes in long term.

      Yes thanks for the heads-up! I have a backlight on my monitors illuminating the back wall, which you can see in the video, and this reduces the eye strain you are talking about.

      @@JoshuaKirkNZ That's not enough. The light has to be dominant. Because you have a professional dedicated room for editing try to look how others have solved the issue. Usually the editing part of the room is well lit and the video screen is in the dark. The amount of backlit light you've got is not sufficient.

    Really awesome feature!
    That's why i love BMD !
    If you don't mind... I will ask you a couple of questions:
    - what is the exact specs of your ideapad pro?
    Do you do some color grading on it?
    Is there any laptop more accurate than yours?

      iPad Pro Gen 4. I think this is one of the best screens you can get outside of a dedicated reference monitor!

      The iPad Pro is just Sssplendid (The Mask) XD
      But i have the Atomos Sumo 19...
      It's a calibrated monitor /recorder which can record up to 4 cams. at the same time...
      Price: 2000$
      For 100% image monitoring,
      The Fat sumo is heavy... :)
      Especially when you want to have a dedicated full color graded image in a one screen!
      Not having to zoom in and out when working!

      You need to have Resolve Studio version installed on Macbook Pro to use this feature, Remote monitoring is integrated in "Resolve Studio" for Mac OS

    Hi! How you set color management? I’m asking, because for me the image on the iPhone looks completely different - has a lot more contrast than the reference monitor.

    • @JoshuaKirkNZ
      @JoshuaKirkNZ  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      My understanding is the feed is colour managed based on your timeline settings. I’m grading in a Davinci Wide Gamut working colour space with a Rec709Gamma2.4 output to reference monitor. My iPhone 13 is a little off with a colour shift, but the iPad Pro is pretty accurate (but there is a very slight increase in contrast on the iPad as well but not massive)

    • @bastienchill
      @bastienchill 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Same question here. Your iPad and you iPhone are not set to Rec.709 Gamme 2.4. And nothing tells Resolve what screen you are currently playing the stream on. There are missing informations in the video stream for it to complete a proper color management.

    • @JoshuaKirkNZ
      @JoshuaKirkNZ  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@bastienchill Yeah it won’t be end to end the same like you mentioned on the iPad or iPhone. The difference though is between the display technologies not in the signal which is solid. If you pulled the livestream feed up on a computer with remote monitor and output the signal out to a decklink or ultra studio card to a calibrated reference monitor however, then the image would be identical. The livestream signal on the iPad will look identical to rendered video played back on the iPad though, so in that sense it’s a great quality control tool. I think that’s the deal anyway 😅

      @@JoshuaKirkNZ indeed, however I tend to make a specific export for mobile devices like an iPad, with a different gamma, in relation with the working environment and the display gamma : web vs broadcast delivery. This is still a very good feature to have, which offers a great overview of the grade, to take with a grain of salt because of the lack of color management with the gammas and gamuts.
      Do you export with gamma 2.4 for your web deliveries ?
      I never get a proper rendition of the contrasts when streaming gamma 2.4 (TH-cam, Vimeo…), because of the gamma tag issue.

      Sometimes it’s just FaceTime, or Zoom.
