Now that Kylian Mbappe has started to show signs of the player Real Madrid got when they signed him as we speak, he had his best performance since joining the club against Sevilla as he was excellent throughout the game, those who are on the hype train jumping on the bandwagon saying that “he’s back, proving all the haters wrong, he’s the best player in the world again, him Vinicius Junior Jude Bellingham Rodrygo are cooking, the world needs to get ready etc” are the same people who were saying that “he’s finished washed at an early age, past his prime, flop making fun of him for struggling so badly calling him an offside merchant, saying that he lost his pace and has been exposed for being a one dimensional player in La Liga, Madrid were a better team before his arrival, he needs to be benched, should’ve never signed him etc. . Anyone who thought that he was finished and that he’ll never be back to his best honestly looks foolish and they really thought that he was going to be a flop plus, are we forgetting that Real Madrid have signed players that’ve been worse than him and I’m not mentioning any names as there have been other signings who were just that bad. I’m happy to see that he’s playing better recently he’s getting more comfortable in this system and is growing in confidence after some initial struggles as he was on a new team in a new league getting used to a lot of things, given what he went through on and off the pitch without really noticing the scary truth about his situation and how he’s been able to respond to adversity, if you can’t support a player during their most difficult times, then don’t start gassing them up when things are going well for them. Look at Manchester City’s downfall for example, the same people who only supported the team when they were good and were acting like everyone is world class are the same people who have turned against the players and even their manager now that they’re not playing well and the reality is that it’s not great to be a “glory hunter fan” when we can only support a player or a team whenever they’re doing well. I don’t blame him for saying that “he was at a low point after the Bilbao game” when he missed his 2nd consecutive penalty in a row and this is the same guy that scored 2 pens in the biggest game in football. Given what Mbappe was capable of doing, many people were surprised by how much he struggled at the beginning of the season as the performances weren’t good enough and the criticism was valid even if it was too reactionary as he was inconsistent and would have a cycle of good and bad games and for those who think that a top player is exempt from being criticized don’t know how life and football works and they should grow up and while I didn’t want to write him off simply because you don’t lose your footballing ability and pace overnight unless you’re lacking confidence, it got to a point where we were making too many excuses for him “give him more time, it’s an adaptation period, wait until Ancelotti’s tactics start to work and suit his abilities, he needs to play in his natural position” and even when he was out of form, it was inevitable that he was going to find his feet in this team since at the end of the day, he’s still a world class player one of if not the best player in the world when he’s in form. The argument that “Mbappe only did it in Ligue 1” is honestly weak when the reality is he was cooking like this in the champions league, scoring goals on the biggest stage at club and international level and as good as he is, it’s not always easy to hit the ground running even if it took him a lot of time to adapt as many players settle into a team differently and can only thrive under the right circumstances and conditions and there were contributing factors as to why he wasn’t performing. The amount of pressure he was under didn’t help as when the “best player in the world” a genuine superstar joins the biggest club in the world after all of these years, all of the eyes are on them and depending on whether they perform or not, they’ll be under the spotlight and when they don’t play well, they’ll face a lot of backlash from the fans and the media in contrast to when they play well. What’s scary about Mbappe is that he’s still been able to get a significant amount of goals and be the 3rd top scorer in La Liga in his debut season at Real Madrid despite not being at his best although he’s playing with more sharpness and confidence and is getting more comfortable in their system and is getting better understanding and chemistry with his teammates and has a good relationship with them “yet he was supposed to destroy Madrid’s dressing room” and his stats are still very good even if they aren’t the greatest and it’s obvious that he can still improve and if he does that in combination with the way Vini Bellingham and Rodrygo are playing, I’m sorry, but sooner or later; it’ll be game over for the rest of the football world and they’ll get the last laugh for those who thought they weee in a “crisis” and that they fans play together because they have too many egos.

Real Madrid are slowly turning a corner and the past couple of games have shown signs of improvement in terms of their play and attack and they’re playing much better than they did at the start of the season and they’ve been on a bit of a “resurgence”. This is supposed to be “one of their worst ever seasons” “they’re in crisis” and despite not even being at their best for majority of the season, they’re a point off of 1st place in La Liga and will temporarily be top of the league if they win their next game and they’ve been doing this under difficult circumstances with the amount of injuries they have and problems they’ve dealt with and given Barcelona’s dip in form although Atletico Madrid are a serious contender, there’s still a long way to go in the season, with Madrid playing better, they could probably win the league and turn around their situation in the champions league because it doesn’t matter where they are in the league phase, as I said before, they’re a team who can never be written off in this competition. Even when they weren’t playing well, they were obviously going to click into gear at some point in the season and we shouldn’t be surprised about the position they’re in and that’s because 1. They literally have 2-3 of the best players in the world who are absolute game changers and when they’re all playing well, the team will be difficult to stop and they were expected to figure it out even if there were doubts as to whether or not they could play together especially with the amount of egos they have in the dressing room 2. As important as it is to be consistent and hit the ground running, who cares if a team was average or good at the start of the season, 3. Real Madrid have an inevitability about themselves and they don’t have the be the best team or play the most attractive football to get results as they know how to find a way and what we’ve seen from them reminds me of the start of last season where they were winning without playing well, everyone was questioning Ancelotti’s tactical approach as many of their fans questioned whether or not they could play with a diamond as they felt that they were better playing with a traditional 4-3-3 formation and as soon as they settled in their system and got used to their roles, they became a fun team to watch at times and they ended up winning the league and UCL, I mean, did you really think that they were going to be this bad for so long, anyone who thought they would is stupid. Real Madrid produced one of if not their best performances of the season against Sevilla as majority of the goals they scored were absolutely ridiculous and their attackers are slowly finding their best form again and when it comes to their play and chemistry, they’ve gotten better from an attacking perspective and while the only concern is their defense as has been the case for the entire season, as long as they’re scoring goals and their attack is outscoring other teams, their attacking firepower alone can make up for their inconsistent defense plus it’s either they find a way to have more defensive solidarity in the team or they sign some defensive players in January and strengthen their backline as outside of that, they’re getting scary with every passing game. Ancelotti deserves credit for their recent turnaround and how they’ve rejuvenated their season despite the fact that at one point he was under pressure and many of the fans were calling for him to be sacked and Madrid have lots of reasons to be optimistic about their team going into 2025 as they have to build on their improvement because they’ll eventually become the unstoppable force we think they’ll be.

Perfect weekend for Madrid: they won, Barca lost to Atleti, 2nd place and they’ll temporarily be top of the league if they win their next game
