It is interesting how this pair in no way aligns in a stack, but it is my firm belief that they were never intended to be placed upon top of each other. I had just watched another video on SkiFi channel covering the same units and he had them placed side by side, which is how I believe they were meant to be placed, or at least each piece would have its own shelf.

Karl, your dialect is fascinating and I cannot quite twig it. I am not sure what your native tongue might be, it it is Asian or elsewhere, but your English dialect sounds like you were dropped right into East London, and I am watching an episode of an immigrant plunked right into an episode to Eastenders. Are you originally from Hong Kong? Or am I just completely thrown off the scent? Your name Karl, chosen or given, might indicate a Scandinavian or continental European origin which just makes this guessing game more confusing. Can you share your background? As an Afro/Latino/Celt whose parent both emigrated to the US from different nations, I am always fascinated by people's international stories. And yes, my mum is from the UK.

Hi Karl. I've serviced quite a few Dragons, and even own one. To measure the frequency response, the input signal must be at -20dB. All cassette deck manufactures specs are measured at this reference level. I've also performed complete re-capping with high grade Nichicon fine gold and MUSE audio grade electrolytic capacitors, and I've reached 22kHz on a type 1 cassette. BTW, thanks for the tip on recording type III cassettes on this machine.

It's subjective. Those graphs can't tell you if you'll like the sound. They showed 100 dog hip X-rays. They asked them which were crippled and which ones were fine based on X-ray. On 25 percent were correct. .

It's not even debatable. This would make an amazing movie and directors and writers and crew would have no trouble making it if they had a 100 mill.

Just two things to dismiss outright, 'off the bat', no measuring, no extensive listening sessions, no listening at all: 1) all courtesy cables that come in the box with normal HiFi-equipment, like a CD-player or amp (possibly not from the really expensive brands, but in general). Those are just pairs of puny super thin stranded inferior copper wire in cheap PVC insulation with a dielectric constant promoting capacitance like no tomorrow on top of the inherent resistance, more or less surrounded by a similarly thin wire for 'shielding' and as a ground wire, in turn insulated by more PVC. No need to measure, it is bound to be that bad by sheer laws of physics. Can fight the law, but the law wins. Back in the 90's I showed a friend how much his of-the-shelf HiFi 300-400 DM (Deutsche Mark back then, more or less Euro today) garbage absolutely benefitted from a modest real RCA interconnect round 25 DM, might translate to affordable 40-50 Euro today with Copper prices and all. No listening required, stuff still sounded (insert expletive here), but much, much better just for that. Even with hardware like that, get half-decent interconnects, period, full stop. 2) Nobody is going to sell me anything over, say, 1k Euro in cabling. Not interconnects, not mains, not loudspeakers; not per meter, but in general, with a little leave for longer speaker cables, mayhaps. I do not care how that measures, not a guaranty for sounding nice or seemingly better than stuff more reasonably priced. If it does not measure well for starters, well, good luck with that; not going to happen in the pricier regions, companies know that is going to be a starting point for reviews, can skip that step outside of technically heavy reviews. I personally had crossed 'Nordost' off my list of companies I am ever going to buy from *before* viewing this TH-cam cast, just (*only just and precisely for that reason*) for selling (or trying to sell) cables in the 20k+ region, or just anywhere substantially over, say, 5k (giving a tiny leeway for Audioquest, e.g.). That, firstly, is for people wanting to show off their HiFi to some rare guests, bragging how their loudspeakers had cost 50k and the rack the same on top (not slagging off high price/high quality companies, if it's worth that much to you), likely buying without thinking and never been in the process of building and improving their system over the years as cost allowed. Secondly, if a company is into that sort of bogus, I will, off the bat again, not consider their stuff in accessible price ranges to be worth anything more than their name, I assume it to be what is paying their bills to promote their overpriced whatever-it-is-they-are-actually-selling stuff. Again, measuring is all nice, but only goes so far within audible and system inherent tolerances. Good thing you highlighted whatever was going on their to be outside the human audible range, thanks for taking the trouble and a 'LIKE'. Accent is a tad hard to understand, but keep up the good work.

I got myself the BX-300 and have been wondering, was there a very brief moment in time between 1980 and maybe 1995 where owning anything higher in quality would have ever been worth the money. The quality is so high that I can only see a it being of use for either recording studios, broadcasting or MAYBE recording any format that had a very short lifespan (like the 8-Track). Outside of that, the CD player, a Reel-to-Reel player or a professional Multitrack recorder would have been preferred by professionals. Even the VHS has high quality audio. I don't have ambitions to die on the hill that the Dragon was a useless marvel of engineering for the Cassette Decks but I'm super curious what the specific demographic was.

Interesting video, never tried that card, was always a bit too pricey 😅 but isn't there a way to either use two different midi ports for the onboard midi and the daughter board? Some cards have jumpers or in the config file. Others a setting in the windows control panel before going back to dos ... Oh, and regarding the sound volume, there might be an option to set the mixer to the windows one in command line

Hold on. There is no first class support for MT32 in Gabriel Knight. It simply reprograms it to GM compatible first thing i think and then just pretends it was a Sound Canvas. All the music is composed and stored as GM. I wonder what other games do the same thing, of the ones you showcase. Potentially all of them, regardless if they work with UART type MIDI interfaces.

I'm curious to see how Impulse Tracker handles this sound card. It can directly access a wide variety of sound cards and, depending on the type, can also use the RAM on it.

I wish all the game developers would have made the games to support sounds for all the extra good cards.

Hey Karl love your vids saving this one for tomorrow maybe we can help each other out ? I have a Roland SCC-1 that I purchased in 1989 ? and re discovered in the bottom of a cupboard ! I planned on using it as the centre piece of a retro machine build but just don't have the time or space :-( so I'm planning on selling it. The problem is I have no way of testing if it works or not ! Would you be interested in a loan of the card for one of your videos then I could sell the card as tested and working !

I already have two of SCC-1s, one for the IBM PC and one for the PC-98, however, I can certainly test it for you. Contact me by email and let's figure something out.

I never understood the hate that the banshee got. It was a great card at the price it was sold at when it was released.
