As much as I love Halo Wars 2 and alot of the new Halo Books. I dont consider 343s lore canon. Its just too discombobulated and retcons Bungies legacy. Sad.

The Iris campaign comic makes more sense if you realize that the woman watching the portal be buried is actually supposed to be the librarian.

I once watched a video by game designer/writer Matthew Colville (for anyone interested, its his video called "The second greatest story in gaming! Halo" so if you don't want it spoiled, watch it before you continue reading) where he talked about how Halo CE was originally going to be another entry into the marathon series until Bungie iirc hit a financial roadblock and was aquired by microsoft. He lamented that so much was lost when Bungie switched over to Halo, he felt very disenfranchised. When I heard him say that, I felt that. It was exactly what my thoughts on Halo 4 were back when it was released. I just stuck to playing the OG trilogy + reach (I later learned via MCC that ODST had come out before reach, ouch) When I came back from my isolation and tried to learn the new lore, nothing made sense. Now I know why.

Seeing what we got and knowing what we could've had truly pains me. I'll come out and say I didn't put too much stock in the Forerunner lore as much as I've had for Spartans, some UNSC, the basic outline for how the Covenant began. After seeing this, it helped connect the dots for me, i think 343i's Forerunner lore could've worked had they stuck with what Bungie laid the ground work for.

I always took the Builder/Warrior build styles as just a fun theory to explain why things look different, not an actual factual reason. I also never like the actual explanation that 343 gave about Chiefs armor "Idk Nanobot or something"

Excellent video. Great visual aids, too. Really setting the record straight. I always wondered why so many people deny humanity's Forerunner ancestry. They act as if it was merely Bungie's uncanonised intention, even though 343 Guilty Spark makes it explicit on more than one occasion.

Actually I don't think 343 did separate us. Go back to the Bornstellar Saga. He mentions that there used to be a rate of forerunner that had hair and not fur like the rest of the rates. I think they wrote it so Humanity broke off from the Forerunner society at some point.

The only thing I really liked from the Forerunner books was the Precursors and the origin of the Flood, the Lovecraftian aspect of it was always interesting to me and deepend the threat of an already terrifying character. Other than that, I'm not a fan.

There's also the part where 343 Guilty Spark looks Master Chief directly in the fucking visor and speaks the words "You ARE Forerunner" but I mean what could that really mean?

Not only does 343 consist of people who don't like Halo, but it's ran by the single person from Bungie who never even Played Halo

I’m curious what people prefer. The story board more necromorph like flood or the rotting mold like flood we got later on. I find the blood and never truly dying kind of thing more spooky.

My goodness; what a fantastic, well researched video. Everything single one of your points is supported by exhaustively detailed evidence. All the counter points are debunked beautifully simply by going through the sources. Even the so called evidence in support of the counterpoints proves itself false upon further analysis, it’s glorious. It’s extremely cathartic to see someone put your own thoughts down on paper in such an explicit and articulate manner. I already had a good understanding of a fair few of these points and I was aware of a lot of the retconning and so called defenses of the retcons, but to see it all laid out and catalogued in no uncertain terms really lends a clarity to the situation. The breadth of how 343 has changed and screwed with Halo is absolutely staggering, I didn’t realize just how bad it was until now. On a technical level I loved the way you edited this video, going through point by point in chronological order and detailing everything that took place. The visuals really supported what you were saying too. So many times you see people use visuals that make no sense with their points, or straight up contradict what they’re saying but yours flowed seamlessly. I loved how you would put the quotes, novel excerpts, and terminal entries on screen so it could not be argued that you were taking anything out of context or lying. If I had to level any criticism, from a purely constructive standpoint, I’d say it was a bit distracting trying to read the words you had on screen while you were saying something else. I paused to read the text boxes and rewound to hear your words but plenty of people probably wouldn’t do that and would miss the points in text. I understand that you did it for brevity and to keep the video flowing but a lot of what you put in the text boxes was really important and would’ve benefited from either being spoken or being given more time to read. I’d say it’s a pretty good thing though if your biggest problem is that people want more of you. Overall I absolutely loved the video, it’s been great to see someone sum up my thoughts and more on Halo, the Forerunner thing has bugged me for awhile now, especially the way people act like it wasn’t even changed in the first place. Good job, hope to see more in the future.

In halo 2's earth mission when youre in the tunnels in the warthog Cortana says that the covenant seemed surprised that humans were on earth, implying they found the arc and were surprised that humans occupied the planet it's on. To me this will always be the real canon. It's so tragic that the covenant based their entire worldview and got so many killed over a misreading that they double down on. They really have nothing to do with the human/flood conflict and got themselves in too deep. The writing for these (bungie) games is so incredible
