STorM32 runs on STM32 F7

The STorM32 gimbal controller still performs great, but the STM32 F1 micro-controller it is based on has come to age. So upgrading to a more modern and more powerful micro-controller, like the STM32 F7, appears obvious. I wanted to do this since long, but I knew doing it wouldn't be exactly effortless, and that's why I haven't attempted it before. However - and this is the video's main message ...

thanks for the video and very helpful to use these dual band mlrs tx module kit, from where can I get these dual band tx module kit for my fpv plane build?
the problem with their desing is that servo port 1 and 2 can not be used, and need to shift everything from servo port 3 onward.
Hello, I tried to draw the v4.1 gimbal card and place the components in the Altium program that you shared on your github account in order to improve myself. Now I want to test it but I couldn't access the firmware. Can you help me with this?
Hello and Fantastic work by the way, quick question can this be made with the more recent controllers that work with ELRS like jumper-T15, What is your recommendation ?
if ELRS or not is not relevant mLRS is best supported by controllers which run EdgeTx and have a color screen
Wow, very interesting video's you make ! Are you a developer ? What Tx do you advise me to buy, if I want to use mLRS when it comes out ? A Tx with EdgeTx ? Please can you give me some tips ?
I'm sorry, I don't give any buying recommendations since desires, needs and opinions can be just too diverse. You can ask in the mLRS discord channel, I'm sure you'll get a better response there than from me. :)
@@OlliW42 I understand, but I think a Tx with an open source operating system ?
again, this really depends so much on so many points which I don't know from you, and even if I would I frankly would not want to think about this. Buying advices is not my thing. There are soo many places and yt channels you can ask. As regards mLRS, it has best support for EdgeTx radios with a color screen.
@@OlliW42 I fly heli's and airplanes, but now want to get into fpv drones and airplanes, I use a graupner mz32, but I don't think this is an option for mlrs or elrs.
mlrs is already used as an acronym, multiple launch rocket system
Hier die Antwort: "If you don't use BEC9V/12V and BEC Vx, The Min. input battery voltage is 5.8V".
Please explain what switching to CAN will give? ps: oh, sorry. found you video on channel about CAN for RC
Very cool. Thanks for sharing your work with us.
I am new in dronecan, can I create a serial link with dronecan ?
with effort yes, see uavcan.tunnel.Targetted

OlliW42: Congratulations on your work. I have a TX R9M Frsky Accst and a RX IFlight 900Mhz Diversity. Is it possible to convert that hardware into mLRS? I also have RX Frsky R9 Mini Ota, but it has low telemetry power.
hey. Yes, both can be converted to mLRS and can work together (if your iflight is the iFlight 900 TD PA), pl see also the docs: github.com/olliw42/mLRS-docu/blob/master/README.md. I'm not sure, but it might be that there had been reports of reliability issues with the iflight rx. Didn't you just jump also to discord? I think it would be best to re-ask the question there, since there are more people who know such details.
@@OlliW42Ok Thank you very much for the answer !!!!!. Do you have any video or instructions on how to flash and download the bootloader on both TX and RX? I was searching on the WEB and didn't find any.
mLRS does have docs: github.com/olliw42/mLRS-docu/blob/master/README.md. See the respective sub chapters.
@@OlliW42 Thank you very much Will. I just bought the Matek module and Matek RX yesterday. For my first experience with mLRS I found it more convenient and faster.
it's defenitely a very good choice for getting into mLRS with little hazzle.

Is the little blue board a TJA1050 can transceiver? I'm currently using a Matek RCIN, so this would be handy.
yes. But the type of can transceiver should not be really very relevant. A 3.3V species might be more appropriate. Note that this is a preview, not a demo of a feature merged to stable.

Hello, I would like to purchase a STorM32 with 2 UART ports and ESP32 wifi module so that I can control my GoPro camera through QGroundControl. Do you have any links where I could purchase these 2 items?
Jow m8, i have the TL 301 gimbal. What is the difference between our models for the same drone we have , the Solo :) ???
This looks great, is there any way this functionality could find its way into ELRS?
can I use R9M lite pro with wireless bridge?
yes. you "just" need to get the wiring right
this comment isnt related to this video, i need your help with,m storm32, i cant connect it to the GUI and can u help me? and contact me
Good job! I want to contact with you for some of the gimbal camera system. Me and my friends checked your website and guides about gimbal but we didn't find our answer. Could you please contact with me? It is really important for our project and we couldn't figure out that what we gonna do. My email is on my channel description. Please contact with me .We need your feedback.
Good job!I'm using a Betafpv 2.4g ELRS gemini dual band transmitter (1W*2) and receiver. Hopefully I can make a mLRS by myself soon. I haven't found commercial TX or RX module that support mLRS yet.
Good job. Now I understand how mlrs works. For rx-> tx, RX sends data which contains mavlink and RC channels. TX receives signal, decodes it, sends mavlink via UART (used for bluetooth) and sends RC channels via CRSF to rc radio. And then tx -> rx.
minor correction: For rx-> tx, RX sends data which contains mavlink. TX receives signal, decodes it, sends CRSF telemetry via CRSF to rc radio. For tx-> rx, TX sends data which contains mavlink and RC channels. RX receives signal, decodes it, sends mavlink via UART and sends RC channels via CRSF to flight controller. :)
@@OlliW42 Thanks for correction. This is so cool!

Hello ,I want to implement this Storm 32 on old gimbal Moza lite 2 ,I'm interest working or not ?,the processor is dead from original motherboard.
Thank you for your hard work towards this amazing hobby!
ESP32 support will be awesome. Ports can be user-configurable or it could be UART at FC End and Bluetooth at GCS End.
indeed, would be great ... it would need "just" someone who would do the migration ... the "just" is the problem LOL
if you could host a brief development guide giving overview of various modules, it would be helpful for someone wanting to develop @@OlliW42
probably, but frankly this is not what I want to donate my time to, my time is as limited as anyone elses :)
Do you think if ported to esp32, mLRS will have significant range - say atleast 1-2 km?
there is no such correlation, the range will be independent on wether it's STM32 or ESP32 or whatever, doesn't matter range-wise. Oh yes, it will easily do 1-2 km.
If iam using R9M + R9mm Combo, how far can i expect the telemetry go?
I cannot tell you, I'm not aware that anyone has tested this out. In ideal conditions it should easily be several 10 km.
I see, Well, i will try it out. I will let you know the result@@OlliW42
Anyway, Have you tested R9M to R9M? With full power 1W, can it reach 60KM Telemetry?@@OlliW42
I only checked that R9M<->R9M works, and in the rcgroups forum one user was checking this too. No range results however. Theoretically it should go far. How far you need to test yourself.
Have you test 433, it's more slowly time connecting MP to FC?
it's the same. The time to connect to MP is determined by what mLRS calls mode, which can be 50 Hz, 31 Hz, or 19 Hz. These modes are equal across all RF bands, i.e. 433 MHz also supports the 31 Hz and 19 Hz modes and is then equally fast/slow as for the other RF bands.
@@OlliW42 And will the time for loading data from the flight controller + be the same?
it's all the same as the data rate does not depend on the RF frequency but the mode
Any support for esp32 and nrf24 possible?
since open source anyone can do and add what they want, but - nrf24 is not LoRa/Semtech so not of interest to the project's main - ESP32 support would be interesting but someone would have to do the migration
@@OlliW42 nrf24 coupled with an Arduino or esp32 may be...
What is the smallest module for mlrs that is cheap too?
the cheapest solutions are the DIY options the smallest & relatively cheap & commercially available option is the R9 system: github.com/olliw42/mLRS-docu/blob/master/docs/FRSKY_R9.md. The R9MM is quite small, one user is using it in sub 100g builds.
What an amazing job! Really looking forward to more videos like this
thx :)
thank you for wonderful video, is it possible to buy this dual band chip?
Hello Olli, First congratulation for the awesome job you did. My question may look stupid as mLRS look firstly made to keep RC link, but as my remote control is very basic and don't run openTX. Is it possible to use mLRS purely as telemetry/mavlink link to mission planner on PC without dealling with the remote control? It look that yes (via the HC-05 module you show) and in that case, is it possible to adjust mLRS parameter (like 19Hz 38400bps) by any way, even once forever? Thanks.
yes, that's possible. See github.com/olliw42/mLRS-docu/blob/master/docs/SETUP_SIK.md :)
@@OlliW42 Thanks to you I just now understand that documentation is in another repo ;).
:+1:
Can you please tell me that 2 pairs of mlrs are working at 915mhz and the signals are interfering with each other. Is there anything I can do to improve it? (I change different IDs)
pl consider joining the rc groups discussion thread or discord channel. Yt isn't a good place for this. The 915 MHz FCC band has only 43 channels but the FHSS needs to use 25 of them according to FCC, so there is literally no space for two mLRS system to not step on each others toes. Using different bindphrases will ensure that the units don't read wrong packets, but since both systems neccessarily have to overlap frequency-wise some level of interference is unavoidable. mLRS has templates for an "ortho" mechanism, which is however not yet officially supported and also only for 2.4GHz. It could be extended to 915MHz FCC. You can do that yourself in code.
Can Radiomaster Boxer EdgeTX transmitter can be used with mLRS (MAVlink)?
mLRS can in principle be used with any radio, however I think this was not your question, but if Boxer can be used with the firmware demonstrated in this video here (which is not mLRS; the project is called MAVlink for OpenTx/EdgeTx). Here the answer is: no. :)
@@OlliW42 BTW, are you using this Jumper T16 Pro V2 16CH 2.4GHz New Hall Sensor Gimbals Built-in Multi-Protocol Module Radio Transmitter OpenTX, right?
Hi OlliW42... great stuff... just few things wanted to understand, what is the max pkt size you are able to transmit...( Mavlink pkts transmitted from mlrs connected to Flight controller). can you showcase the stats windows what is the link quality you are getting...
any mavlink packet, even of max size allowed by mavlink, can be transmitted. No restriction here. Link quality obviously depends on distance, so everything from 100% to 0% is possible depending on har far the vehicle is out
@@OlliW42 Mavlink max pkt size is 280 bytes... sx1280 max buff size id 255. so it can't do that... however.. I am also working on the hobby project of building a SiK radio kind of telemetry using expreless lrs hardware [esp8285 + sx1280] , for me also Mavlink and mavftp works .. however if i see Mission planner logs, MP complains, I see lot of crc errors happening... but there are no errors in the transmitted and received pkts ,verified that by running a test code to match the tx and rx packets.
I wasn't saying it would send a mavlink message in one lora packet ... when you send a pdf via inet to your friened, you won't think it is send in one junk, don't you? Yet it arrives. Same here. Can't comment on your code :)
can i install on naminamo? rx tx?
no, unfortunately not. Pl see the mLRS github pages for available hardwares: github.com/olliw42/mLRS
hai it need DMA ?
This is a really great video. Thank you for the time stamps. Nice to skip around and then come back for more detail later.
Hei Olli, kurze Frage zu deinem Gimbal Projekt: wie hast du das Problem mit dem Yaw drift mit Hilfe von zwei MPU6050 gelöst? Danke im Voraus✌🏻
The mLRS project is amazing. I have been wanting something like this for 2+ years. I am looking forward to the day when I will be able to purchase the hardware as an integrated solution consisting of TX module + RX. BTW, the SiYi FM30 project is in principle filling this exact niche. Is there something fundamentally wrong/insufficient about that one, aside from the fact that it's not based on ELRS and the CRSF protocol?
define "fundamentally wrong". It's a question of features you want, and mLRS has features which FM30 doesn't have (TTBOMK), but many may want. mLRS is not ELRS. :)
