Great Video, Thanks for talking about the "less known" gems of the area, I believe I have seen you effortlessly shift into 1st gear while in motion on a couple of your video's? What vender are you getting your transmission oil from?

    • @modelajim1930

Hello Dave, I use the 600 weight oil from Snyder's, the real stuff not the 90 weight gear oil some vender's try to pass off. The key to downshifting is to give the accelerator a quick pop just as you shift, that'll spin the gears and equalize the speed. works for both 1st and 2nd downshifts. This is a safety necessity in today’s traffic. I run 12 volts instead of 6 volts, (alternater) only because I drive on the open road a lot, and you can’t get 6 volts parts on the road. This has saved me a couple times over the years. On our recent trip to Colorado I had to replace the battery. I have high compression heads on the cars to gain about 5 extra horsepower. @@bobfidguello7239 Hello Bob, the interstates are a mixed bag, on the one hand you’re not holding anymore up, but when they have such a high speed limit, It only takes one driver flying up the road not paying attention. We have the flasher on and spend the entire time looking in the rear view mirror. We don’t get in a freeway unless forced to. Be safe out there doing the long hauls. Appreciate your comment and feedback.

My advice is to arrive as early as possible in the heavy tourist season, to avoid having to wait in long lines. (Like 7:00am) We needn’t do that canyon on this trip as we had done it a few months ago prior with friends and just didn’t have time this go around.

Hello again Hairball, I was so disappointed I didn't catch the "Big Boy", I learned about it the following morning. I love old trains and had my young nephew in town at the time. Would have loved seeing it come through. I guess originally it was suppose to stop in Sparks, NV for a few hours, but because it was delayed in Roseville, they cancelled the Sparks stop and it just rolled through slowly. Missed opportunity for sure. Thanks for your comment as always. JIm & Lindy.

@@twagn I was 17 years old (1982) when I saw my first Model A. I had been wood cutting with my father all day. He had to stop on our way home to talk business with an old couple. While the men talked shop, the old lady said, let me show you my old car. We walked around her house and in the backyard was 1928 sport coupe, her mother was the original owner. I instantly fell in love with it. She wanted to sell it because they were both in their 90’s. I begged my father to help me buy it, but he was not into cars, and said, “why would you want an old car like that. It would breakdown every time you wanted to go somewhere.” Unfortunately,I didn’t get the 1928 sport coupe, but about 5 months later I was able to get a 1930 standard coupe. I still have the car today. (Needs restoration). Thank you for watching and commenting. Appreciate it very much. Jim & Lindy
