Maine Deer Season 2024 Week 2- Things Happened! | MOE Podcast #48
What started out as a slow season (as far as deer sightings), things turned on a dime. You never know when your big buck will be right in front of you. Mark capitalized on the first buck he saw of the season and it was a dandy. We definitely had an eventful end to our second week of Maine’s deer season. With rifle season half over, we are now consistently seeing bucks and are optimistic about what the second half of the season holds. Enjoy!

มุมมอง 13Kวันที่ผ่านมา
As we talk about much of the time (we sound like a broken record 😁), hunting the big woods in northern Maine is tough with no snow. If you enjoy deer tracking as much as I do, you understand there is nothing like tracking down a big buck on snow. But what to do until the snow comes? Well, big bucks still leave sign. It's our job to find it, follow it and spend as much time as possible in those ...

Fall is a period of transition. Trees are shedding their leaves, birds are flying south and many other living things are preparing for a period of dormancy in which they prepare for new growth in the spring. For people, fall can be a period of new beginnings, with new goals and ventures in store for the future. For me, this fall is a season of change. I have decided to step back from my career ...

The Whitetail Mount | A Scope & Peep In One…BUT Will It Hold Zero?
มุมมอง 6K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
I’ve been considering using a peep sight on the Remington 7600 for awhile now. However, I could never fully commit to using it. That may change now since I came across the Whitetail Mount made by Torre Rifle Company. This mount has detachable rings with an integrated peep sight. I was intrigued by the concept of having the best of both worlds…a peep when needed and scope when conditions allow. ...

Someday I will be able to afford one, but not today.
Enjoyed the chat. On the downward slope of the season, now fellas. Hope you had a great weekend at deer camp. Regards Mark
Hey, do you guys use GMRS radios in Northern Maine?
Really enjoy listening to these podcasts! Congratulations Mark on your buck….looking forward to the video on it.
Thanks Tim!
New to your podcast, we hunt central Maine for the past 35 years. Thank you for keeping it fresh for us flatlanders...sorry lol. It appears you have some snow this morning! Good Luck Hunt Safe!
Thanks! Welcome! Little snow is always welcomed😁
3:59 i cant tell you how many time ive asked myself that same question
😂 The elusive whitetail!
gonna give archery a shot next year have a great spot with multiple bucks from spike to 8 pointer but come rifle season completely disappear every day in october got them on camera just about and come beginning of november just gone location food source so many factors play in
Good luck with archery next year, hope you get a big one!
Congrats to your Dad!
Thanks!
Awesome video. I must say that particular gun especially being a 270. Having no issues is rare especially in northern Maine weather conditions. One of my favorite all-time rifles also love the pump action.
Yeah, I love the pump action too!
I don’t know how you are able to put out videos during the season. I appreciate it but boy I wouldn’t have the energy to do it after hunting all day.
😁 It's not really that bad if you have a plan and a little time management. I have a pretty good idea what I want to shoot and when before I go out hunting (obviously you have to be ready for the unexpected). It's surprising how little I actually have the camera out. I can focus more in hunting and then when I go to edit, everything is pretty well organized and it makes editing a snap!
I have to agree with Mark, as he said, it can happen when you least expect it and it can happen in a second. As my friend always says, one minute looking, the next minute shooting. Thanks for sharing.
You're right, good things can happen in an instant!
Congrats Mark! Missouri opening weekend total deer harvest was 68,312! This year deer are staying in the woods, Good acorn crop! I think the years I deer hunted, we had snow 4 years, I hunted 30 yrs! Good Luck Paul! Another Great podcast!
Thanks! That's a lot of deer! Good luck in Missouri!
Great conversation, congratulations to Mark for a great deer. Enjoy the rest of the season.
Thanks for watching, we hope you enjoy the rest of the season too!
Congratulations mark. Glad we could hear the story behind this year’s harvest. Do you guys have a certain ammo preference (brand , bullet weight , and bullet construction) or just whatever ammo you can find? Just curious . I always like to get perspectives on people’s preferences.
Thanks Robert! We'll discuss that on the next episode. Appreciate the input!
The little 130 pound buck I took this opening day, I could smell him 15 minutes before I saw him coming through the marsh grass and alders, walked right under my tree stand. Congratulation to the old man. I would be interested in hearing discussion why you guys don't cut your own deer? Good topic for the show maybe.
Thanks, that's a great story! We'll have to discuss that on the next podcast. More often than not we process our own deer. Sometimes it boils down to time and convenience. We've been hunting a lot this year, and there is a guy we know who does it all...register it, weigh it and cut it.
Thanks for the podcast Paul and Mark! I enjoy the conversations. We have it pretty easy down here in 23 :-) They've had it pretty easy for 3 winters (and looking like a 4th). The deer are everywhere. I love hunting in the snow but it's a crap shoot waiting for it down here. Its nice being able to be choosey about deer. It certainly wasn't that way back in the 80's.
Thanks for watching! Sounds like you’ve got it pretty good down there!
I think people don't realize that there are 2 Separate "Maine's"? I Live in York County, and the deer are literally everywhere. Although, most of that land is Posted, or inaccessible. I prefer, the Northern areas. My father taught me to be a "Woodsman", just as much as he taught me to be a Hunter. I prefer the Tougher areas, to the shooting gallery down here. I've hunted from Aziscohos to Danforth, to Coburn Gore! I'll take seeing one Good deer, versus taking anything that walks by down here! Congrats Mark! Again, feel like I'm at Dad's kitchen table! You guys are Great! Thank you for what you do. And Paul, Don't take these times with your pops for granted!! Good Luck!
You explained that well! Glad you enjoy it, we appreciate the support!
When I joined the Navy in 1986 I was stationed in Florida for many years, no snow there. I learned to just sit in a tree stand, never got a deer. In my last station in Brunswick, 2003-2006 I got a deer in 2004 (doe) walking on a tote road and 2006 (buck) from a elevated stand. Stinks without snow.
Maine deer hunting is definitely different without snow! Congrats on the deer!
Congratulations MARK persistence patience and Great woodsman skills
Thanks!
Johnson woolens are not what they used to be. They are so thin you can read the news paper through them. They are only in business because of they’re made in Vermont selling point but real Vermont outdoor workers don’t waist money on them. They are just sold to unsuspecting tourists.
Oh man I hope not. I can't say I would be surprised though. It's been a bit since I've purchased any of their stuff. I'll have to check them out. Thanks for sharing!
Congratulations, nice buck.
Thanks, good times!
Awesome job guys keep up the great work
Thanks, we're having a blast!
thanks for sharing enjoyed this video, agree lots of yarding areas are gone...good luck hunting
Thanks for watching!
Congratulations Mark 👍🦌 Think Snow ❄ and Big Bucks ! Good Luck too all in the Great outdoors 🦌 🐻 Like allways that Vermonter!!
Thanks 👍😊

congratulations to your dad he got himself a beautiful one
It's a dandy!
congratulations to your dad he got himself a beautiful one
My father in law has 3 or 4 of these Remington woodmasters chambered in 30-06 and this year my wife was picked for a cow moose hunt and she used her dad's woodmaster. She has never shot before but never hunted anything before and shot the gun she was using maybe 10 times tops, I'm talking 10 shots tops and it was easy for her but after shooting my bolt action 30-06 I will say the semi-auto definitely kicks less. I wish she would of had more time to practice and shoot with the gun but that's another story. I've looked for a used woodmaster for years and the prices are still ridiculous for guns that look like they were dragged behind a truck.
Awesome! Yeah, the recoil difference is noticeable. Easier to stay on target with follow-up shots than say a 7600!
