We Back! New Off-season High Jump Training
Running, technique, and not a lot of gym. Training has changed a lot for me. Also gym mainly stopped because I picked up a job moving furniture... Probably should have mentioned that.

มุมมอง 5K7 หลายเดือนก่อน
This is 4.5 months of my track season in 9 minutes! Regret, Injury, Healing, and brain growth. I love track and field. Also I keep saying ' injured 8 months' but it was more like 7 months around Feb. Small details. I will workout how to post here again regularly. Jumping content coming June that much is for sure.

High Jump Training - Working on my Approach
มุมมอง 8Kปีที่แล้ว
Another High-jump training week(s). Winter is warming up and I'm working on my approach. Maxing out the speed in your run-up is THE way to jump higher bars. Had lots of uni work and been making vids for my other channel too, so been busted for time lately. More uploads to come. :) 00:00 - intro 00:11 - runup stats 01:15 - training

Coming Back From An Injury. (Winter Comp + Prep)
มุมมอง 1.3Kปีที่แล้ว
It's been a hot minute! High Jump training was going well until I got hurt right before the one winter competition this year. Still managed to overcome an Achilles strain to show up to the meet healthy. I hope this can give you an insight into what to do when you're hurt. See your physio, do what they recommend, and don't train into pain. Happy jumping out there fellas! #highjump #verticaljump ...
Continuously Improve your Vertical Jump! DELOADS!
มุมมอง 1.9Kปีที่แล้ว
Today I'm talking DELOADS. They're the most underrated aspect of vertical jump training. It'll help you break out of a training plateau and continuously improve your high jump! This vid is a bit more broad and doesn't only apply to jump training, but any athletic training. Training videos to come soon, got a lil hurt, did my first session back today at like 80% and was so nice to be back after ...
High Jump Technique over the bar - Drills and Progressions
มุมมอง 39Kปีที่แล้ว
If you're struggling to improve high jump flop technique, here's a easy session I do. It involves important queues, exercises and progressions that help me continue to jump semi-competently. I also talk a little bit about what could be causing your flop to fail. Hope this helps. Happy jumping out there! Winter High Jump Workouts
มุมมอง 2.3Kปีที่แล้ว
Finally back and actually high jumping again! I'm slowly building up into training hard and I've also tried to keep the workouts as transparent as possible by listing the actual workout(because I haven't filmed everything). Hope you find some value in this and it can give you some ideas for your own training. Also sorry you had to watch me sprint so much hahaha. Some cool ideas on the way and k...
Warmup drills for Jumpers
มุมมอง 9Kปีที่แล้ว
A general guide for how to warmup for track. It's a very broad warmup and it's meant to be. I enjoy lots of events, so my warmup is applicable to all sprints and jumps! It's nice to have a routine warmup in the bag, but don't take it too seriously, anything can do the trick. Also I'm back into off season training, so training vlogs/vids coming again wooohoo #highjump #warmup
Final training sessions - Into the Off-Season
มุมมอง 2.8Kปีที่แล้ว
This is my final week of high jump training for this season and a local meet. It was a bit all over the place as my major comps were finished and I could just slam weights, run around and do all the fun stuff I wanted to do... Like all the other events woohoo! Keen for a short break and onto a new challenge. Road to 7 foot incoming :) #highjump Chapters: 00:00 - session 1 01:12 - session 2 02:2...
Exercises to improve your High Jump (& How to make YOUR own workout)
มุมมอง 9Kปีที่แล้ว
I put together a list of the best weightlifting exercises that have helped increased my high jump, and I guarantee will help improve your high jump too. This advice applies to any vertical jump or track and field athlete honestly, BUT especially single leg jumpers! included at the end is a "how you can make your own workouts" segment. Gym work has been a huge passion of mine, almost as much as ...

I love that you say 'fuck ton' a fuck ton in this video. lol.
Ik this is a very late comment, but I have two questions that would really help me out: first, when I approach, I can never kick my right leg up to my butt when planting (I'm a left foot jumper). I also feel that I have very little air time on my plant step, is that the way it should be? Or should I hop into my plant so I can kick my right leg up and drive better? Second question is kinda dumb but I've never jumped in spikes at all, how big of a difference do they make in regards to jump height versus like regular tennis shoes?
So excited for my winter season this year, as a freshman last year I got a pb of 1.70 at the last season meet but I never got to jump at any winter meets. I was able to get 1.68 meters a few days ago off of short approach and 1.78 is my goal for winter season because that would put me in winter champs. Love the training videos jumpman
Very Very nice to see ❤
Ur backover pb is my high jump pb😢
patiently awaiting the new video
Hey bro i want to improve my high jump i jump 1.65m currently but i have to jump 1.85m to get podium finish for next year nationals pls give me some tips
Good video. Is it possible to cut out the swearing?
Hmmm
Hey Mate, do you have any tips for a bloke like me. So basically I haven’t jumped since about February and I have 1 month training prior to my next big comp in November, do you have any tips or reminders since my mind is blank. Love your videos btw.
I feel the same way about not focusing too much on the technical aspects of the high jump rather the aspects of the run up and how the takeoff feels. You’re right that being faster and stronger will cause the form to come naturally so your body can actually hit this position “/“ at takeoff I improved my pr from 2.06 to 2.11 in one year’s time with this mindset as-well. My curve running got better in which caused me to not slow down into takeoff because I could handle the pressure. I see a lot of similarities between our jumping styles and feel that is one aspect I think you should look into. Loved the video and good luck jumping!
Man I would pay a lot of money to go up against Hamish Kerr routinely
i feel so lucky i get to go 'against' him a few times a year. very keen to get my ass kicked this season!

7 foot when?
my summer coming very soon.
Hi man! I got a question. I am 15 and im thinking of starting high jump again. I have already trained high jump before a little bit. Do you think its to late?
at 15 nothing is too late bro! Plus if you like something you'll always find time and enjoyment out of it. Btw I started at 22 haha.
@@matehj Okay thank you bro! I will watch your videos to get better!!!
1:49 oh my god back overs! That brings back memories! 🤣🤣🤣 damn I completely forgot we used to do those
Hey how to arch my hips? My hips are unable to bend. When I try to bend my hips, my legs become straight. I always hit my ass to the crossbar.
Give me work out for high jump sir
when i'm jumping off one foot my body makes me go forward, like in a long jump, how can i change that and get more vertical?
Lean your body away from the bar /mats at takeoff.
Bhi mara sath bhi hota hai
@@matehj thank you
i love your videos
Mwah <3
How do you get the free leg through quickly?
Practicing doing it without the bar up. Build the habbit. You'll also learn that it makes you go higher.
Which exercise and activity should be done more to increase high jump in speed workout?
Sprint.
@@matehj What should be the weight of a high jumper? My height is 6'3 (1:90) so what should be my weight
I like track although I don't do much but I can guess that flying or even scraping over the bar has to be the most satisfying feeling ever ha
No way, a clearance when you don't feel the bar below you is amazing.
I’m trying to find Adidas high jump Spikes. I can’t find them anywhere. Does Adidas still sell them? Please help
ebay
Hey odd question but have you ever high jumped in javelin spikes? They have the same spike layout and I recently saw someone use them in a meet.
No, because it would mean buying a pair haha. Would love to try it but I assume they're heavy as. A normal size 11 mens hj spike is around like 300 grams I think.
@@matehj I’d imagine they’d be very supportive of the ankles tho lmao
Hi Mate It took me ages to find this video again Now you can tell the grandkids that a gold medalist farted on you 😂 Well done Hamish and all NZ jumpers
And he'll destroy me at many more meets to come!
The return of the king 👑
About 7 weeks out from a meniscus surgery. I should have heeded your advice from a comment many months ago telling me to pause training. A few weeks later, I tore my meniscus, and I missed all of championship season. Lots of PT and recovery time is needed. On a brighter note, watching these videos gives me hope that I'll be jumping soon enough. I can't wait to do some pre-season sprint training around September. Our school just got a new track so it'll feel beautiful to run on.
Sometimes we learn the hard way hahahah. It makes us stronger for the future. Hope recovery goes well and so sick you got a new track. Ull be itching to get on it!
So good to have these back!
I gained 20 pounds since my season ended 😭 bro from 160-180
we'll cut it before the season... right?
Yaroslava matchup WHEN? (I’m gonna ask this every video on this channel until it happens - don’t make me wait! 😅)
One day when jumpman is big enough. Get an exhibition match.
@@matehj Absolutely! With TRP commentating and streaming of course!
new running form go brr
I have a couple of suggestions/coaching ques that helped me a lot. U have a similar takeoff to what I had when I was jumping, and I would love to potentially help you out if you’re interested.
Yeah ofc man, always happy to hear some advice!
Patreon DMs would be a better place to discuss I think
the king of yt high jump is back!!!
Never gone! Just lurking haha
Finally back🎉🔥‼️‼️‼️
WOOO another great vid! Love hearing all the technical stuff your working even if I know nothing about it <3
Hahahaha love ya james
Another beautiful matehj video
excited to compete with you next year
Yoo fellow nz jumper?
@@matehj Yesirr !!!!!!
How do you treat shin splints jumping so often? Great content btw :)
Slowly work into jumping. Gotta take baby steps. I couldnt handle max jumping twice a week from the get go. And even now after an extended break i have to work into it again.

If i had coordination i would be
Could be slow pull through also, Weak hip flexors? idk, could be psoas muscle weakness or tightness. Something I've dealt with. I know Chris Korfist has also to say about that. anyway, fan of the vids keep going!
Was definitely some weakness as well as building the habbit of running wrong. Has gotten easier and more comfortable with time. And appreciate the support!
Get in there! Looking clean with that new form, immediately noticable! GL with your season.
MATE POSTED ANOTHER VLOG RAHHHH
I think it’s just me who noticed but the mic quality is much better now!😎😎

Where can I buy the adidas high jump shoes online?
Uhh I usually use ebay as they ship international, for a high cost.
How did i not know this channel existed until now! good to see your sexy face <3
Multiple income streams am i right
Just came from your latest Jumpman vid... he now has a face! Still need that faceoff with Yaroslava (or however you say her name) so we can see who's REALLY better!
I wouldve accepted this anytime before she went 210. Well actually ill stilll accept it, and just get whipped.
@@matehj Yeah lol. 2.11 in the Olympics for her do you reckon?
I’m 14, no gym access, no equipment access. My pb for high jump is 1.68m how can I improve without anything?
Sprint and jump. Anywhere. At this age move and play sports haha
