The Haute Bohemian
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 25 ม.ค. 2019
The Haute Bohemian is a boho style jewelry line based in Cleveland, OH. As a recent silver smith I wanted to share videos that I was looking for when I began the process. From tutorials to supplies needed to get started. I do not have any professional experience filming just the basic knowledge of silver smithing!

Gold Filled Ring Tutorial for Beginners
And could you purchase rings and attach your blank/mounted stone to that?
@@aliyyar7159 I’m not sure if you can purchase pre made ones. I made these with gold filled wire.
What do the blanks look like? Size, thickness etc, and how do you go about finding them! Sooo helpful thank you!!!
@@aliyyar7159 I purchase all my metal and supplies from Riogrande.com. I usually use 24ga and a variety of sizes. The ones for these rings are 19mm.
Hello! What do you use to get the oxidation?
@@edithrosa4134 I use black Jax for that.
I’m just curious if you’ve ever used regular Midas on brass and if that worked? Or is it best to use Midas specifically for brass? I mean, I guess that’s what your video is saying 🤪 but I was just curious if you’d ever tried the other?
@@amccaffrey1443 good question! I’ve actually used Black Jax for silver on brass and it worked. I’m sure regular Midas will work but I’ve never tried it.
Okay, I got a question. First of all, awesome piece! But what do you do with the precious metal dust that is produced when sewing? Do you reuse that or does that go to waste?
@@Animiribi hi! Thanks for much! I put a container under my saw block to catch all the dust. I then take that, along with scrap metal to my local refinery once I have saved up a bit.
do you make customs??
@@sushiroll3649 at this time I don’t offer customs. Thanks for asking though!
How long do you heat them for? And what with?
@@downworlder the directions say for at least two minutes. You can use a butane torch or a kiln.
I do not know what I would do without your videos! Every single thing that you have shared has helped me get my studio set up so far. It’s definitely a process! I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you!! 🙏🩷💯
@@she3po945 I love this! Thank you so much and always happy to help!
Oh my gosh, the camera is awesome! Thank you so much for sharing it and for sharing your awesome jewelry and silver smoothing tips. You are such an inspiration to this newbie!! 🩷🙏🤌💯
@@she3po945 you’re welcome! Glad it helped!
Is this durable like regular silver rings?
@@LightofDawn7 yes, they are durable but since it’s fine silver they metal is softer.
Thanks for doing this video! I recently bought a jewelry tumbler but what I’m not sure about is how much of your finishing work do you have to do before putting it in the Tumblr? Does tumbling eliminate a lot of the post-soldering finishing steps? I know that Tumbling won’t remove scratches, so I imagine you still file away excess solder. I’m just not clear on how much filing/sanding you need to do before tumbling? I’ve watched so many videos and that is the one question. I can’t seem to find an answer for. Any info you can provide would be so very appreciated! 🙏🏼 😊
@@amccaffrey1443 Hi! Thanks for watching. So for me the tumbler eliminates the final polishing stage. Some artists will use compounds to achieve a mirror like finish. I find the tumbler will get the metal shiny but won’t remove any scratches. You still need to file everything down before putting it into the tumbler. I like to use silicone sanding wheels in my flex shaft to remove scratches. The 3M sanding wheels work well too. Hope this helps!
i am obsesseddd
@@rachelkane367 Thanks!
Great video, what kind of small torch are you using?
@@davidasselin3955 Thanks! It’s called a Micro Torch and I purchased it from Harbor Freight years ago.
With kind of crystal do you put so it doesn't explode ? :)
@@corbillat6718 I use Cubic zirconia stones. Cooltools.us has a helpful chart that shows which ones can resist fire.
So beautiful 😍😍

Beautiful color❤
I have many real certified diamonds from .2 carat up to 1 carat. Can I put them in silver clay. If so how do you recommend it?? I bought the silver clay. I just doing research. Thanks
I read somewhere that if you fire diamonds with inclusions it could explode. Personally, I wouldn’t risk it especially if they are valuable.
Lovely 🤩❤️🌹
@@tishsmiddy71 Thank you!
Just beautiful ❤
@@nadineschofield3541 thank you!
What do you do about the exposed base metal where the wire was cut and filed?
@@evepearson3491 you can plate the exposed area. I just leave mine and haven’t had any issues with tarnishing.
There aren’t any details.

How?
It’s silver particles with a binder and when it’s heated it turns into solid fine silver.
Thanks so much
Hi are there alternatives for heating it? Im scared of getting a torch and messing up,
You can also heat these with a kiln but it’s a more expensive option. A small butane torch would work and you can adjust the flame.
Hi! Do you use some type of finish on top to make the silver extra shiny?
Hi! No I typically tumbler them with steel shot. That gets them pretty shiny.
Hi!! Would I be able to make these type of cuff bracelets using half-hard wire? I got some dead soft wire but it seems to bend too easily, feels flimsy to me
Hi! Yes absolutely, it would be a little harder to bend the wire but it can be done. If you hammer soft wire it will harden up. You can also tumble soft wire with shot and it will harden it also.
Ok, stupid question - how do you know when you have heated it enough and it's done? It didn't seem to change or anything 😅
Hi! That’s a great question. The directions say to heat for at least two minutes. I go a little longer and they come out perfect.
@@thehautebohemian5753 oh, of course there are directions 😅 Thank you so much for answering ❤️🫶
Spray the mandrel with polyurethane spray clear 6 coats.

Does this work for gold plated brass?
I have not tried it with gold plated brass so not sure. I wouldn’t just to be safe as you might risk ruining it.
Awesome.
What stones do you use ? I just ordered clay !
I use cubic zirconia stones
What kind of jewels are those? They don’t melt or break?
They are cubic zirconia. Certain types can withstand high heat.
@@thehautebohemian5753 do you have maybe a chart or could you tell me what to search? i want to encapsulate a labradorite but don't know what to search for specifically. Thank you!
A charcoal block might help prevent the metal from overheating, that's what I prefer to use.
Hello. I just wanted to know if there is a special texture hammer that you use. Also, I've never seen a long metal hammer block like that.
Hi there! The hammer I used for these is called a ball peen hammer. I got it at Michael’s years ago. I had the metal block custom made from my family’s machine shop.
Hi! What file are you using?
Hi! That was a vintage file my husband gave me. I now use needle files I got from Harbor Freight. They are less than $10 and work great!
Can you please make a tutorial video on this?
I’m hoping to!
Love the pinky promise textured cuff.

Where do you buy the aluminum and plates. I'm from South Africa
Impressart.com or Beaducation.com should have all of the tools you need.

Nice I try it ...from Philippines 😅
How so pretty

Very cool 👍😎
Hi! I see that you used tubing on the back to put the chain through. Do you use anything else to adjust the pendant up and down on the chain?
Hi! No thats the main part that the chains move through.
Gorgeous! How is the shrinkage?
The brand I use is 8-9% shrinkage rate. For rings it’s about 2 sizes smaller than
What about the stones will it crack around the clay when fired ?
