The Powerful Cooling Technique We Learned From Termites
Nature is a powerful teacher if we take the time to look and listen closely. It has already solved many challenges that humans believe cannot be solved without technology.
But some designers are smart enough to take their cues from nature and Startup Lions Campus, alongside similar projects, prove that these solutions can be quite powerful.

You have too many facial expressions and head movements. It's distracting, sorry. But great info, thanks.
On a much smaller and simpler scale here in Rarotonga I have seen the double roof affect on a 35sqm foldable house. Brilliant idea and cools the house so well. Another huge benefit of the double roof especially if there is wide overhangs is that the house is protected by the elements so much better because of the large roof overhead.
Is it possible to obtain the construction plans?
I wonder if this will work in tropical storm stricken countries like the philippines.
Watching this on the day before my exam 🫣
I hope it went well 💪🏽
Amazing video
No amount of ventilation can provide sub ambient cooling or reduce humidity. Ac is the only solution.
You are right - in some cases, humidity is just too high for passive strategies 👍🏽
My husband isn't an architect ,but he's already designed a house for living in the southern USA almost exactly like this about 2 years ago.
That’s amazing!
Hey Sara, I am an international student studying for a Master of Science in Sustainable Building. I am confused because you mentioned that we need to study for a Master of Architecture to be registered with ARB. Does this mean that I cannot register?
Yes unfortunately the only masters degrees that count towards registration are the MArch not the MSc. They also need to be recognised by the ARB
Hi sara I watched your video and got inspired i am a mechanical graduate. I am intrested in thermodynamics. How could i become like you please share your journey
Wow that’s amazing! So glad you found the content inspiring! I am planning some new content unpacking my design process so stay tuned 👌🏽
Doesn't do well in a fire though.

Hahahah 😂 mer7ba!
@@SaraSaadouni_TAC hhhhh Allah ybarek fik 🙏🙏🙏
Hlw Sara Very glad to watch your video, I am from Bangladesh,I am a architectural graphic designer and I am 15 years experienced but I don't have any degree I am skilled, and now I'm wanna go to Canada,, what should I do pls help me with this information
In theory this looks wonderful. How about some actual numbers that show the theory works? When classes start in the morning what is the outside temperature versus the inside temperature ... and at some points through the school day.
A shade for my shade, it's obvious if you live in a hot region. But of course that our eurocentric thinking can't figure that out
So what is the difference between indoor and outdoor temperatures. What the point of a video about this very topic without and real data. Makes it seem like you intentionally left out information...
I really didn’t 😅 there is no data available online about this building but it would be a great research project 👌🏽
This may be a good building design. I'm not sure because this video was long on blah, blah, blah, and very short on facts. I never even saw a measurement of the indoor temperature compared to the outdoor temperature. Or the indoor temperatures of two buildings compared -- a normal house and this one. Way too much fluff and no substance. Enthusiasm does not equal science or results.
Anyone with half a brain cell know this concept this is nothing new
Hi Sara i would Like to Know how many precedents should you have per project ?
Hiya! It depends on the project. I would say, every time you make a big design decision, add a precedent. For example, if you decide on timber structure instead of concrete, you can show a precedent. Or if you use some type of shading over another, I’d show some precedents. Hope this helps!
@@SaraSaadouni_TAC Alright Sara that is helpful. Thank you very much
Hello Sara I m new here glad to find the channel I m close to yr experience just I got my bachelor from different country not uk
Welcome and best of luck in this process 💪🏽
It’s nice watching you explain,.. good buildings and living ereas come from symplicity and humbleness regarding earth and creation,…:)
Thank you 🙏🏽 I totally agree!
how about introducing solar energy for free electricity.
I have lived in 40 c with no ac with just celling fan that blows hot air😅
Same 😓 not fun!
so it has a double roof, more or less like a false ceiling
I've heard being architect in UK is sucks, so hard to make living.
As someone who lives in a house like this, I will tell you that it definitely takes a few degrees off, but only works when the wind is blowing (even a little bit of wind is good) and if it is not humid. Even then, I would not call this a ‘Fridge School’ as the TKSST labeled this video link on their site. And if the wind is not blowing or it gets humid (not a problem in the desert), it is still extremely hot and those from the west who say otherwise are probably posting this from their air-conditioned apartment in the city. There is a reason they never gave us a temperature reading in this video, despite this being the focus and key measurement that would empirically verify their achievement. Again this building is a great design, but it capabilities are still overhyped and I doubt people in the city are going to swap places with these people.
This is a really cool and amazing idea, but what about rain water harvesting from the rooftop Or from the surrounding area to recharge your tube wells, wells or lake; moreover you could have used foldable solar panels incorporated on the roof top to power the essential electrical/electronics devices within the building... Although the main problem is heat hence it will cause water to be evaporated faster, which is why securing the water source must have been the priority then other things, "There is no life without water", then what good cold buildings gonna do if you are outta fresh pure drinking water...💧💦 Please find a source of water first then only will these things surely help... # CLIMATE CHANGE is not gonna show mercy upon anybody, #Permaculture is the only solution for the physical world, and #Vedant by "Acharya Prashant" is the solution for the Mental world. It's our last chance to save everyone, spread the word ASAP. In our country the max temperature🌡️ in DELHI for this summer recorded was 53.something degree celcius, glaciers of Himalaya 🏔 are melting that's why one the Great Minds of our country Sonam Wangchuk Sir is leading the Climate Protest... Please come and join us we need each and every ENVIRONMETAL ACTIVIST available in the world. Cause it's not some personal issue but the GLOBAL ONE 🔥🌎🔥.... We all must come together to save our future or our Mdrfking GOVERNMENT and these Greedy ULTRA RICH Arseholes won't spare the planet🌍 till it's last breath... It is the time, just the last 4.something yrs are remaining to hold this Giant Catastrophe; so let's become one n fight for our rights or a very wrong death awaits for all of us...💯☠️🔥. Take care of yourself and the lives/nature🌿🍃 around you... Thanks... 💚🙏🙏🙏

My grandfather made a 3 wall family covered patio like this waaaay back in the late 1940’s. Even when the weather was blazing hot the patio was cool. When my grandparents passed away their home was sold. The new owners were going to tear down the patio until my uncle explained how the roof over the patio worked. The patio is still there today with only a few changes. My grandfather had a few different engineering degrees and was a mind blowingly interesting man.
That’s wonderful! It’s common sense most of the time with these things! And there’s a lack of awareness most of the time from users of the space! Glad they kept the covering over the patio 👍🏽
How did you get Psychrometric chat of Gando, Burkina Faso? I searched in Andrew Marsh website and I couldn't find it.
Google “ladybug epw map” - it has weather data from all over the world 👌🏽
Very cool, when are they planning on getting aircondition. 2050, 2100, the year 3000? Jeeze. I do like it, though, seriously. Im actually planning on doing something similar because of doomsday prepping
You are sooo inspiring Thank you Sara 😊
Dear Sara, Thank you so much for the video. You are very positive. I live in Uk and I come from Egypt, holding a bachelor degree of Architecture and environmental design (5years) and I have more than 10 years experience in Interior Design and Architecture In my situation what job title should I carry? Part 1 of Architectural Assistant? As I am more interested in Interior Design, I am a bit lost Thank you
Hello! Thanks for your lovely comment! In your case, I would apply for interior designer jobs! You have a lot of experience so “senior interior designer” would work well I think! Best of luck!
I'm really enjoying all your videos on passive building techniques. You've got a very polished, concise, and understandable video style, and I'm learning a lot! The graphics are very helpful.
Wonderful! Thank you so much 🙏🏽

Put solar panels on the roof and a battery bank...thatbwuld be pergect, free energy.😊
first you talk about curved double roof +ventury effect shown on sketch. but the actual school roofs seems flat.
