      And for what end?

    • @pamcooper5837

@@J0k3r4U Really? You have to ask?
Do a job (whatever it is) and do it well, then task yourself to do it better.
Your actions affect others and whatever you do, can and will have a ripple affect.
What end? i.e. 'the ripple affect'.
And, it makes you feel better about yourself for one thing. When you feel better about yourself, you are a happier person and so are the people around you.
You are also more self sufficient--less dependent on others.
You are also more useful to the good of self and the whole.
And, if you are wise and generous and not 'just' smart, your life experiences and knowledge can be a 'tool' to share with others.

I have heard, "the artist is never finished with his painting, or musician his song." In the blooming guitarist world, it is a skill most people have to develop, (including me) to be happy with what you have made, and to actually be able to put it out there.

I believe its the opposite for me. As a child I had a terrible learning disability No matter how hard I studied or hard I worked I couldn't keep up with most others. I have never believed one time that I'm the smartest person in the room. I treat folks how I want to be treated...With Respect. I will say this because I'm willing to work hard With my hands I have been able to take care of my family and that is a blessing to me. I have always known when I'm in crowd I'm probably one of the least intelligent IQ wise lol.

It would be such a lovely world if we could just see individuals for who they are instead of who we expect them to be. Unfortunately, we can't or don't. Instead, we become member of 'societies', 'clubs', 'organizations' to show who we, an individual, is. It's really hard to be an outlier in this world, isn't it, Jeffery. I'm in the 99.9997th percentile and just knowing there are others scattered out there gives me an anchor point. Without those anchor points, the fine line of genius and insanity becomes blurred. Thank you for your efforts.

Hello Jeffrey! This is a great video. I'm a 20 year old male and I have always been very insecure about my intelligence. I never really did well in school. I've even questioned if I was mildly intellectually disabled! This has caused me some depression.
When it's time to do something that requires some thinking, I always shy away from it. I've taken a couple of those Mensa practice tests which are said to give a ballpark figure as to how one would score on the official test.
I scored 128 on one and 123 on another. People say that their practice test scores and their real scores were pretty close together, with their real scores being slightly higher!
I was still a little skeptical because they did seem a little easy. It would be interesting to see how I'd do on the official test.
I am working on finding more confidence in myself, and your videos are very inspiring. I love your energy! Thank you

Judging by the way to type and phrase your sentences, you definitely sound intelligent. Still, by saying that, I hope I'm not feeding the insecurity. You don't have to be intelligent to be a human with equal value!

I'm glad you find my videos inspiring and I know what you mean about some IQ tests. Many IQ tests seem unbelievably easy for those of higher intelligence and for good reason. A good IQ test also needs to properly gauge those with lower IQs so many of the questions must be really simple along a spectrum of difficulty reaching up to highly difficult (for some people).

It truly is a coincidence that you make a video on the Dunning-Kruger effect at this time. I currently work as a cook in a kitchen, and I recently found out that a few of my coworkers, including my boss, legitimately believe I have some form of mental retardation. FOR REAL! I've tested for intelligence, and I'm in the 99th percentile. I believe this odd misconception stems from multiple factors such as: 1) I've noticed their large egos. They love feeling like they know more than everyone else, and have even specifically said at times that they feel superior to others 2) Dunning-Kruger effect 3) My lack of ability to function in a practical environment. I'm far more of a philosopher and conceptually based person. While my limitations definitely exist, I don't believe they're at severe as what others make them out to be.
Anyways, that's been an interesting experience I've noticed lately. I've often thought about what you said about people treating you like a child because of your Asperger's. Good to know I am in good company. :)
As a final question, what are your tips on decreasing the Dunning-Kruger effect in ourselves? Specifically, being able to acknowledge when others are smarter. I very well could be doing this without knowing. THANKS!

Great video, very informative. I would like to know though, if temporary, unwarranted confidence coupled with disastrous performance, can be induced by negative emotions and the need to protect oneself against them. Can an emotionally biased perception of a person by an otherwise intelligent and rational individual affect the result of a mental task by the latter whenever the former is involved? Does it reverse when perception changes? Can such an event still be considered a Dunning Kruger Effect?
My apologies if this seems a little too intense but I don't know that much about psychology. I would, however, be honored to be illuminated by your fabulous mind.

  • @zadeh79

Rationalists always try to find ways to destroy evidence that strengths in empirical thinking are useful. In this case, D-K is against the value of ‘confidence’, as are proponents of rationality such as Dean Khaneman, who highlight the notion that intuition and confidence are the source of cognitive biases in decision making. But in reality, it is well established that confidence likely builds with the amount of relative expertise (a sense of familiarity) someone has. And people who have more intuition/expertise developed over rationality, may, in fact, have higher confidence, in the low-average IQ range, because they are used to, relatively, many moments, where ideas ‘click’ - when a ‘lot’ of other people (more people than their rationality percentiles; e.g IQ, suggests) around them, stand their scratching their heads. But the D-K effect, is based on 'ability', as measured by tests loaded in the rationality component. While real-time processing involves pre-analytical elements of subconscious intuition/expertise, that precede rationality.

And it pisses me off when people conflate scoring high on a pattern recognition test with knowledge on topics that are considered “smart.” I don’t know how I stumbled upon this guy, but he’s feeding people a bunch of crap so they can satisfy their need to feel superior.
Chris Langan is delusional. While I’m not a physicist yet, I am a physics student at University of Rochester. As someone who is only an undergrad, I will tell you, the paper is fucking bullshit. It’s designed for people who know nothing about physics to read and feel amazed at how little sense it makes.
He’s making up ridiculous jargon to describe his crack job theories that he has no math, no experimental data, no proof of any degree to back up. This is not a physics paper. This is not a mathematical proof of god. This is intentional obfuscation and rambling with no real purpose.

Hi, Ive been fascinated by your videos want to apply your advice in my life. It's enabled me to piece together some unanswered questions and would like some advice if I may? My IQ is of around 135 (I've taken 2 official tests) I was quite shocked to discover this as I was of the average intelligence as a child.
I went through something quite dramatic in which my memory was affected. I was told that the brain can sometimes erase events/information both related and non related to the situation. I truly believe my brain was reprogrammed. I had a higher state of awareness and was able to literally reprogram the brain. I guess when you have the ability to observe your thoughts, you have an awareness when the brain is doing such things as cognitive dissonance. Since the experience 6 years ago, I've done very well in my life financially, I was a very sporty person and although I do it, I'm motivated for the exercise only. I find that I simply have no desire to converse with the majority of people, not because I dislike anyone, but I simply feel I don't gain anything from it and it is too much effort to pretend. This makes me come across as arrogant to a lot of people. I spend more and more time reading alone than socialising and I just feel that people are too predictable and focus on materialistic things. I'm extremely happy and i don't feel angry of the world, I simply feel isolated and my conversations are far too deep and inappropriate when I am socialising in such activities as football. Apologies for the lengthy message, I guess this is therapy to me as I really can't find many people to truly connect with, yet I don't feel lonely and a very confident person....it's confusing me.

@Vlasko60 And currently playing with peoples lives. He has apparently retracted his disinfectant suggestions as being sarcastic. We feel reassured that when conducting a briefing presenting critical information on covid 19, he can pop in some sarcasm.

@Vlasko60 I think the only ones who may believe his bollocks that he claimed that he was being sarcastic, would be his deeply deluded indoctrinated supporters. I saw the whole press release, He believed the shite he was talking. He truly believes that he is smart.
His advisers had been telling him for days to stop ad-libbing in the briefings as they were truly damaging his image in the polls. He now seems to have heeded advice.

@Vlasko60 Not huge fan of Trump but Biden disgusts me.
