You think one problem and then it's another, or a combination of more... kind of things that drive me crazy as you're never sure what was the root cause, for example a connection inside the silicon chip which you may have altered state by heating up during resoldering. That is enough material to drive a technician insane.

Cassette tape decks sold after CD players came on the scene generally were cheaply manufactured and best avoided. Recently I worked on a Bang & Olufsen which used a Philips cassette mechanism, which was made almost entirely of plastic. The reel drive gear was crumbled, of course.

Hi - I'm a big fan of yours and watch your videos avidly. You are doing an amazing job and I have learned and dismantled a lot from you, according to the video. If you don't mind, please help me with some advice, because I don't know what to do anymore: I have a Sony tc-k750es, Transport TCM-200, which, only in Play, does not spin the take-up reel. The belts and rollers are new. Perfect FF and REW. Eject the cassette normally. Capstan ok. Even AMS works: raise the heads, the take-up rotates and searches for the song. Then in normal Play, the heads rise, but the take-up reel, no! All the microswitches work ok. The reel motor does not receive voltage at Play. Please advice, tips. Something electronic? The integrated control M50964-224SP? Any transistor? Thank you and sorry.

I have met this issue once with a Sony 909. When I checked the level on the play output of the CPU it was not changing and did not engage the reel motor. The only solution I thought of was to use a signal from the playback LED and route it to control the reel motor circuit. As the LED is controlled by the display CPU and both CPUs communicate via a service bus.

I really believe that is top of 2 cassette decks style and probably quality. Every time I see it I get excited. What a beautiful combination of aluminum panel with many buttons and glass cassette doors (not like later decks with mouse-hole-like window). You can see all your tapes on the go and just see them. Only missing is tape backlight, but not so crucial. Have WR950 for years "like new" condition, purchased from Japan auction (100V 🙂)when prices were quite low for double decks because everyone was hunting for single cassette. Later found original remote control (paid for it almost same as for deck O..O). I also have TC-WR820. But if I decide one to go, that would definitely be WR820.

Hi! Regarding the issue with rewind, try to clean the pads on the T shape lever and the tension band. I clean mine with soap and warm water and let them dry overnight. Also re the DDS 3 tape I read on the forums that should not be used because the tape is very thin and stress the mechanism. Only DDS 1 of 60 meters (120 minutes) you can use. The reason why its stopping at 2 hours is probably because the end of tape marker is set. You can try to erase it.

I totally agree. I have a small stash of last gen unopened TDK MA. I opened one up last month and recorded music on the entire tape on my Dragon. When the Dragon played back side B in reverse mode, the NAAC started sounding like a machine gun. The shell is not good. I tested the Dragon with early 90's and all editions of the 80's MA without any issues.

From what I can see about the BX-300 tansport it has some simliarities to the some of the other BX series decks. I just got through servicing the transport on a BX-150 and re-assembled and it will not run (it did work before the service). I took out the cam motor and noted its position so I could put it back correctly. Upon application of power the capstan motor does run for a very short time. I can manual close the contacts of the cam leaf switch with the Gray wire on the cam motor and it will run a short time and then stop. I have put this transport into a BX-2 which is functional and the transport behaves exactly same. I have checked all leads/connectors and leaf switches and cannot find any “Open” connections. I believe that is a timing issue with the cam motor but I have doubled checked the cam position and it still will not run. I have tested all of the motors and they all run smothly. I have applied a external DC supply to the Cam motor and I can drive the tapes heads up and down without any problem. It is possible that the "Shut Off" circuit is casuing an issue? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Uau! Great "sounds"! So pleasant I could be all day listening! At 22:27 as a reference point, it’s noticeable when previous music is finishing a "hiss" starts growing and stays at a certain level during the "silence" between the tracks. At the moment the next music starts that " hiss" suddenly fades out almost disappearing and be indetectable as the music's playing. Why is this happening? (Any Dolby effect?). And once more, for share with us your good taste for music, playing through those untold "old" machines that a lot of people never believe could sound so beautifully and so accurate, THANKS!

No, this is how Garage Band from Apple records - it increases sensitivity in sound absence

no hiss in this recorders ,only if the heads are dirty or magnatised but the cassettes are very bad ones so might be from the cheap cassettes as the chrome ones from sony were more expensive, or the original recording as it
