www.levelsforguitar.com/ Levels for Guitar focuses on developing proper technique and music theory in a structured step by step study plan. We believe that developing the fundamentals first will lead to greater success in learning and writing songs down the road. We will leave the teaching of popular songs to the celebrities on You Tube. Our focus is education. We streamline the process of learning by getting to the point and developing the essential elements of what music is made of and how it works on the guitar. It's all packaged in a comprehensive easy to follow study course. Zero gaps in the lessons will help you to avoid any confusion as you progress through the levels. We have hundreds of videos taught by one teacher. As a result, the videos are carefully planned to take you from one level to the next seamlessly.

Is it possible to reach advanced level speed of shredding by using this type of holding pick? I use this standard holding of pick however sometimes i have difficulties with right hand speed. So just wanted to now is it because of picking hand or i just need more practice?
Hi. I learned this method watching a number of 80's shredders back in the day. There are other options but this one fits my style as it allows me to use my fingers for hybrid picking techniques. My videos are geared toward beginners. To learn about speed I would look up videos dealing with speed bursting or "chunking". You can also check out some of the "cracking the code" videos on YT as well...that guy is nuts. Thanks for watching.
Insanely well explained.
HEY! I am self taught, but I play only to write music to sing to and have never had a guitar lesson. I have released music before, so I am not so bad that I can't make music, but I could never ever pick right, until this video. I have been holding my guitar wrong the whole time! I watch other people do a "Metallica" gallop and I could never do it before this video. Thank you so much!
Thank u happy new year
Oh bullshit. Hold the damn pick whatever way works for you. Everyone isn’t going to use the same technique. This pick grip obsession is majoring in the minors.
I learned it from great players like Paul Gilbert. Are you faster than Paul?
@@LevelsForGuitar 9 out of ten guitar players don’t know of, never heard of and don’t give a shit about any Paul Gilbert.
@@davidvankeuren3806 LOL. Thanks for watching my video David.
@@LevelsForGuitar Sure thing bro, keep em coming.
i swear my arms are too long and my fingers are too fat it just never makes sense
Sorry man I tried how to play in a classical position I have a heavy Les Paul and that dude wants to slide and I don't not sitting in the right posture my couch sits too low to the ground and slumped over that's basically my problem
If I'm wearing slippery pants I like to use a rubber dish pad or cut up carpet padding and place it under the guitar. It's worth a try.
Thank you!!!
Thank You 🙏
@levelsforguitar I have a question on how to play scales or fretting the notes of melodic lines. I noticed that if I fret the 1st note using mere finger strength the other fingers aren't in ready position therefore I have to curl or draw back and manouver each of the other fingers to fret the following notes. This is tedious especially when we have to do fast runs. However when I fret the 1st note together with a grip hand strength the other fingers seem to curl along in somewhat ready position so much so that I just have to focus on the 1st note and land the rest naturally. This work well especially if you are doing 1234, 124, 134 patterns on the string. So what is the proper way to fret the guitar? 1) Manouver each finger to desired frets or 2) Focus the curl and grip on the 1st note to get the others to curl along and land the rest naturally? Which is the proper technique that should work best in the long run?
Individual fingers your using muscles that will strain easily the other way and you can spread them wider
How do you manage to avoid hitting the middle pickup with a pick?
Try adjusting the pick depth or playing just ahead of the pickup.
My pinky wont stretch far enough to the 8th fret… I have a crooked pinky but it’s always been that way.
The point of attack, with the picking hand, is actually a form of tone control. As you move away from the bridge, you change the tone to a less harsh sound. I even find myself strumming close to the neck when I'm looking for a full bodied rythem tone.
isn't it a classical guitar?
Yep. A classical guitar is a type of acoustic instrument.
The Greek Canadian guitar god showed me this when I was 15 ..Never would of guessed this guy would end up Playing for BonJovi..
SO HAPPY I FOUND THIS!!! It is just what I needed and wanted.
Thank you so much for this lesson sir..I had been struggling a lot however this lesson finally help to get over that struggle. Thanks a lot.❤
How can I get pdf?
I love the video! Thanks for the helpful teaching !
Nahhh lower the better 🤘
Hey? we’re suppose to go up and down the pentatonic a minor scale, What are we supposed to do on court changes?
Thanks
For flatpicking index finger is shaped like a “Y”the pick goes in the 2nd joint of the index finger and the thumb
Hello, thank you for your lessons! I have a question regarding finger placement on the strings. Lets say I’m practicing a scale on the A string, my fingers sometimes slightly touch the D string. Is that okay, or should I aim for my fingers to only touch the string I’m practicing on?
There is nothing wrong with blocking a neighboring string when playing scales. In fact this is a common muting technique. The important thig about the scale exercise is to aim for the fingertips and play near the frets. When playing chords you will want to roll up more on the fingertips to avoid blocking notes. Hope thins helps and thanks for watching.
@@LevelsForGuitar My fingers thank you for the relief!

Very helpful practises 👌
Great lesson. Thank you.❤
Thanks for watching.
If you have a wammy bar, you should NOT rest your hand in the bridge because it’ll cause the bridge to move. This is because the bridge is floating. Thus the sound will be negatively impacted and discordant.
Many great players perform and teach contact as well as non contact with the bridge. Both work well. If you are getting a discordant sound then try using lighter pressure. Hope this helps and thanks for watching.
Hello nice job, but if you can share which software you used for writing the notes ... please
Nice
Life saving video... Saved my hours of stressful practice....
Thanks for watching!
This video was an instant improvement for real... Can play extremely fast without missing any note. 🤟🤟
holy fuck i was using my pinky as a pivot point beneath the bridge and after a night of playing felt like it was going to fall off also how does this work with floating tremelos? my palm is rubbing that when i use this technique...
Howdy. Actually using the pinky to stabilize the picking hand is a technique used by great players. I would practice both methods. With floating tremolos use light pressure if the tuning becomes an issue. Thanks for watching!
@@LevelsForGuitar thanks for the advice, i've played on and off for years with no formal training, good to finally get the basics
thank you so much! i play guitar for 7 years self taught and now suffer from tendonitis because i stucked to the "rule" that you must ALWAYS have your thumb in the low position and exactly behind your middle finger, causing me to bend my wrist too much. So i now have to start from thebeginning.
I wish I saw this over a decade ago before I gave myself cubital tunnel.
Ouch!
Always something useful!
Good tips and exercises.

O wow, seriously a great song do you have it released on Spotify? Thanks for all your calm and well explained tutorials! Much appreciated!
Thanks Antimatter! Never tried Spotify.
This is really good advice and a good explanation of what's going on with our bodies. By the way - in case you have never seen our product, check the Woodside Guitars guitar support. It is designed to facilitate the playing positions described here, and in fact many more. It's highly adjustable, fits practically any body size, and allows one to keep both feet flat on the ground. Many believe this is better for our backs, especially for those playing many hours, and years. Check it out! And thanks for the great video, Jason!
please provide pdf download will be helpful

Using the elbow to move between strings allows for much faster and consistent picking. Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
I notice that when not picking--just showing the right angle across (above) the guitar body--your pick is over the B string. Is that correct? The reason I ask is that I want to find a position where I can focus on "THIS" (or "HERE") as the angle I want to have on EACH string. Do you understand what I am asking? (Does anyone?)
Great instructional videos. I wish I had this when I started, it would have saved a lot of grief.
