Biceps Tenodesis and SLAP repair surgery #13 - 6.5 weeks after surgery

I can already tell that the surgery was a huge success. I've been in physical therapy for a couple of weeks now and the shoulder is feeling great. Frank, thank you for your taking the time and effort to make these videos. Super helpful! I just had Bicep Tenodesis surgery this morning. I think I’ve been through all videos and maybe I missed it, but how long before you could drive again. Thank you again.

      Hey Brian, I waited until my doctor said it was OK, which I believe was about 6 weeks. The log wait is because you need to be able to take emergency actions without injuring yourself while driving. Any surgery is a large cost (im time and money), and you don't want to ruin it by doing something stupid (like having to jerk the wheel hard to avoid hitting an animal in the road). So be PATIENT and follow the instructions from your doctor and physical therapist. I've seen way too many videos from people having this surgery and trying to get back to normal activities too quickly. Take your time, try to enjoy the down time, and good luck!

      While I am definitely a big dumb animal who will normally stupidly fight through pain, that was not the case in this instance! The nerve block shot I was given COMPLETELY blocked any pain from the surgery. And I followed my surgeon's instructions to the letter to ensure that I only moved my shoulder exactly as he prescribed so that I didn't tweak it at all during the entire recovery process. If you need the surgery, I would definitely recommend it, as long as you have the time to completely stop using your arm during your recovery.

    Hey dude, I’m 18 years old with hopes of joining the military. I’m about 6 weeks post op and I get my sling off in about 5 days. I’m hoping that I have a full recovery. I went through labrum repair and bicep tenodesis. How long was it until you were about to do push-ups and pull-ups?

    • @ftate
      @ftate 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Griffin, I'm 50, so my recovery was probably longer than yours. I was able to start doing push-ups at about 4 months, and pull-ups at about 7 months. You'll heal faster than that, but don't rush it. The biggest issue is the reattachment of the tendon to a brand new hole in your bone. You want to make sure that's 100% healed before you go yanking on it. A second surgery would take a lot longer to heal ;)

  • @hakszz

    Hi just a question. How long till the stiffness went away after post surgery?? I just had the exact same surgery it’s been 2 weeks now. No pain just shoulder feels stiff

    • @ftate
      @ftate 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, it'll be stiff for several weeks or longer, AND DO NOT RUSH YOUR REHAB. Getting mobility back into the shoulder is a SLOWWWW process that should not be rushed at all. Go as slowly as your Dr./physical therapist recommends. You just had some invasive surgery, including drilling into your bone to make a new attachment point for a strong tendon. It's going to be stiff for a while.

My surgeon wanted me to start passive movement with my physio after 2 weeks prior after surgery. It's been really slow movements with physio help. What is the brand of the sling? Thanks.

      It's private labelled, so I'm not sure. It's similar to the DonJoy UltraSling IV, though mine has an adjustable pad rather than a pillow. By that, I mean it has a foam covered piece of metal that can be formed to put your arm at any angle needed.
