Sorry, question about Crown die. If someone rolls a 4 on a d4, that automatically beats out ever other (non-crown) value? Doesn't that make most games come down to the 25% chance of who rolled 4 on d4 first? Also which is higher? A non-crowned match or a crowned roll? So does a triple-pair or full house with no crown values beat out a crowned roll with no matches?
So a crown die does beat any non-crown but any other hand above it on the list would beat a crown die, basically the only thing crown die is better than is a lower crown die and any hand with none of the conditions for anything but high die met, basically the same as poker but with an additional hand between pair and high card
Wellmade video and really easy to understand. That made me look twice at the view count, considering it’s very low for the quality of this video.
I have a the 3x3 15 puzzle, the tower of Hanoi, and small (like 9-21 piece) puzzles.
(Tldr, the bard got a cursed necklace and played against a litch for his soul) I did a game of Texas hold'em for the bards soul. It was in the middle of the campaign after they took a kobold to a different city and the players were getting ready to go to fight a litch (dont ask about why I went from an escort mission to killing a litch) and they encountered a seemingly normal, if a bit shady, trader on the side of the road who was selling magic items. The wizard casted detect curse but I left my wording vague intentionally since the wizard wasn't very specific on what he wanted to detect the curse of. But there was a necklace that gave a bonus to charisma so the bard obviously bought it and put it on immediately, thinking it wasn't cursed, and I let the bard fall directly into my trap since this player was constantly screwing with the rest of the party, mostly not in a funny way either, and he ended up being teleported to a pocket dimension and I got out a pack of cards. After the bard figured out what happened the litch appeared and made a bet with the bard, if the bard beats the litch, the litch will give the bard a boost in his charisma, and if he lost the bard lost his soul. One poker game later, the bard had to make a new character sheet and had to fight an undead version of himself later down the line.
i feel like if they use detect curse then just let them have it. its the purpose of the spell and you cant really say they fell for it when they were already expecting shenanigans. it did lead to something cool tho
I'm actually currently working on something that, i suppose could be considered one. It's a language - runic - and the plan is to integrate it into the game. It's strictly written, and there are 2 forms. The normal one, written in lines like english, and the one with magic properties, written in circles (in a way). The plan is to have players possibly decipher some pieces of it. Although, i might just really like uniqur languages, lol.
so glad to see another series from you guys!
I just did lowish stakes blackjack, I think it was 5 or 10 gold max for like a 5th level character.
My favorite one i ever did was a fishing minigame i had in an old sailors campaign i was a part of. It was a sort of tug of war that i would have the player who's fishing play against me. If they managed to win, they were able to catch the fish and i decided the type of fish based on both a d100 table and on how easily they were able to win the tug of war. I was much stronger than pretty much everyone who was playing at the time, so it was a fun interactive minigame that gave me an excuse to work out a little during session.
how is no one watching this video with almost 2k subscribers?
Great question! If you figure it out, let us know. In the meantime, I updated the video description with links to Instructions for creating a thieves guild using the form we made that mirrors this video (and the rest of the series) and, of course, a link to the online form.
@Dungeon_Brew it was helpful, thank you.
I have a question about the straight. Does it have to be 4, 5, 6, 7, 8? Or can it be any sequence, like 1, 2, 3, 4, 5?
It can be any sequence of 5 consecutive numbers between 1 and 8, but because the d4 can only roll a maximum of 4, it is not possible to roll a straight higher than 4,5,6,7,8, so I use it as an example.
Love these. There's good strategy in both games, and tons of room for bluffing, getting lucky, etc.
Oh, yeah! I am glad you're enjoying them, and I appreciate your feedback in looking at the numbers. It's always a challenge to find a good balance, and you know players will do their best to find a way to game the system.
I see you, too, have played Baldur's Gate 1 or 2.
I made a game for that already, but it's called pairs. It's got different rules of this. Though my players all seem to love it and don't stop playing it when they can find it.
I love this little game. More mini games like this, please!
Thanks! I'll keep 'em coming.
Bugberas are like mean wookies
Orc intelligence is 7. That is stupid.
A new player at my table has been given a background called "Peacekeeper", basically a member of the militia, recognized by a silver star worn as an amulet. This is closest to being a Texas Ranger who is in a different state, so he has independence when it comes to operating in this new territory, but can still request help from local law-enforcement. I think this kind of reputation effect will work for him, and maybe the other PCs.
Nice. Let us know how it goes!
You’re a good man Arthur Morgan
You've just got a new subscriber. Y'all are awesome
I've always done reputation as a hidden stat. I also keep notes of what they've done thats affected their reputation. Then, later in the game, I'll have one of the notes come back and affect them; either help them in a time of need or hinder them when things are going too well
Oh, you mean the extended Leadership tables from 3.5e? Yeah, I love how often people keep remaking 3.5 stuff to fix 5e.
Nice video! It's a valuable topic, but one that's been rather hazy for me, and your suggestions provide good structure!
Thanks! I tend to try to make rules for things that are hazy for me, too, otherwise I just never get a handle on them.
Usually funny moments and then I can remember everything else
That time the DM used my low level bard to accidentally make a wish that screwed the high level cleric... my bard then died.
When I DM, it’s always the funny moments. When I play, it’s always the funny moments. Long story short, as someone who plays as pedophiles, war criminals, terrorists, Soviets, twitch streamers, dictators and even movie characters, it’s always the funny moments.
But... Demogorgon is just one entity, technically. I mean, yeah, two heads and all that, but they work together enough to count as one.
Interacting with the other players as someone besides yourself.
First!
No memories stick; my brain is made of baby oil
As a player it's when i do the most badass thing possible in a given scenario
When I can math my way to victory I really don’t like roll playing but I like the whole dnd lets me make big number go big. I was able to math my way yo blowing up a mountain range
my character being my character in some very characteristic way and my character forming meaningful relationships with other characters (PCs and NPCs alike) not strictly shipping or romantic, just like, any kind of relationship the gameplay is usually only memorable in "bad" ways, not like i always hate it, but combat has only ever been memorable because one of the above (relationships can even be enemies!!)
It’s the MOMENTS. Improvised or not, when things click with everyone at the table is when DnD is at its best
