A Test of Endurance - Let's Talk About It: Trails of Cold Steel 2
Trails of Cold Steel 2, or Sen no Kiseki 2, takes place alongside the final chapter of Trails to Azure. It is the second of four games that form the Erebonia arc of the series. In terms of gameplay, it carried over most of Cold Steel 1's mechanics with minimal changes. In terms of narrative, it's a pretty simple one, focusing more on resolving issues built up over the last two games as opposed to creating new ones. Not that it doesn't create any, but because it covers and resolves the civil war, and not much else, it feels less "meaty" than the other sequel games: Trails in the Sky SC and Trails to Azure.
The PC version was used for this review. Trails of Cold Steel 2 is currently available on PS3, PS Vita, PS4, PC, and Switch (Asia only).

    8:55 actually you don't need to have viewed Fie's final bonding event in CS1 for her to reference it in this game. The same applies to all final bonding events. CS2 will act as if the final bonding event happened based on whether your link level was high enough for them to appear as a choice. This has the hilarious consequence of characters contraditing each other in at least one case back to back. The final bonding event only determines who Rean will think about during the battle with the magic knight at the start of the game and which character will have level 3 link with Rean when they join the party. 20:12 It does make sense why this was locked behind a second playthrough when you consider the long gap between the release dates of CS2 (2014) and CS3 (2017) as it gave the fans something new to discover after finishing the game. That being said it should have been made accessible during the first playthrough after the release of CS3 because it's very easy to just go from CS2 to CS3 and get completely blindsided by Thomas's secret identity not being properly revealed. 40:16 he sent the Northern Jaegers to attack Celdic, not the Provisional Army. This is an important distinction as the Northern Jaegers's involvement will become an important plot point in CS3. 50:40 actually if you use these mirrors during the final boss fight on New Game+ you'll get an extra scene with the character in question talking to Rean before they disappear though it's only text on top of a CG with no acknowledgement from Rean himself. This implies that these characters really did appear in the Reverie Corridor though IMO the entire concept is poorly implemented as Class VII doesn't react to some of them suddenly changing into someone else during battle by having the mirror equipped.

    Hoo boy, where do I begin? First of, this was a very nice review. Especially since you are capable of saying Alisas name right! Thank you for that one! But in regards to all of your questions, 1 of them will be answered in Cold Steel 3 I believe, another will be answered in Cold Steel 4 and a really huge on will be answered in Kai no Kiseki actually. At least in regards to this "thing" I saw from Kai, a certain "something" will make a lot more sense once you get there. Again, I know some huge things but am actually mostly blind myself, because I lack context. But yes, Rean. This poor man is in line to have the worst the time of his life, for the next 3 games in a row. You will see it when you get there. This poor dude just can not catch a break. Btw, this thing you saw in the next games intro also gets explained later. I am not sure if you paid attention. Keep enjoying the games weapons. I need to deepen my friendship in my farming game with gun guy in order to get a better gun. I love gun. Gun is great. Gun was helpful in that last bossfight. The gun is the best thing in the game!

    As someone who never used Crow and Millium much in this game because I stuck with the OG class whenever possible it's no wonder that the ending of both this game and 3 fell horribly flat for me. Like seriously, in my playthrough Crow was literally just some guy I never really talked to who owed me 50 mira and I don't remember anything about Millium from 2... Only that she got a fair bit of screentime as Altina's 'sister' in 3. Kind of funny how a simple and understandable playstyle choice can completely gut a stories emotional climax, or in this case multiple climaxes... And now ToCS 3's ending is locked in my mind as one of the worst and least earned game endings I've had the displeasure of experiencing.

    watched/listened while I wasn't around to type so I have to try and remember everything I wanted to comment on, doh. Surprised you like Altina's outfit, most everyone doesn't like it lol. I personally prefer her S-craft-specific outfit she gets in CS3. She also has the best 'magical girl' outfit from the dlc in 4 =P. Though Laura's is also uhh.. yeah.. I don't think that one is available until reverie though. It's true that Altina isn't a super major character in this game, but it is strange how she gets her on music score, it's even named after her. I think it suits her well too. It's kinda high-techy, but also melancholic and mysterious. I half-suspect many people are unaware that a pack of crows is called a murder, incidentally, I wonder if any other language on earth has as stupid and random a term for something like that when you could probably more easily communicate the idea using 'pack', or 'flock' or whatever. I mean I k now lots of languages have weird arbitrary rules for specific words or terms that don't seem very consistent with similar expressions, but 'murder' for crows is really REALLY random.... Especially since they're mostly scavengers and not even a hunting bird like Eagles or Falcons. Like what the heck?! You think they would decide to call a pack of pack-animal-hunters murder, like lions or something, but no, poor crows. CS2 glorious 3d Rixia is my fave. She 3Ds even more in later titles but honestly I prefer cs2. I'm not a weirdo safe-horny hypocrite either. I just have my preferences that kinda stop at 'F' size. Her hair and outfit seem shinier too in CS2 IIRC. As for Vita being in Sky 3rd. I'm aware of this 'fact', but I don't really recall HOW or WHY people have decided that it's her. How do they know it's Vita and not some random girl? I don't remember her giving away any clues that she knows magic, is a witch, is an Anguis, etc. My biggest gripe with CS2 you do not mention, I'm starting to wonder if I have a mental block on some element that everyone else 'got' in the game but I keep missing it somehow. I hate the ending of CS2 because throughout all of CS1 and CS2 all of class 7 act like attending Thors has been the most important decision in their life and how meaningful it is to them and how much they grew from it. But at the end of CS2, the game just dumps on you that literally everyone is dropping out early? That they wont be taking their 2nd year? You mentioned that the final challenge, people 'reminded you' that it's their last thing to do as a class, but how is that a reminder? Pretty sure the game gave you ZERO indication of this throughout the entire game until the very end. I mean I get on paper some of them have good reasons for dropping out but those details aren't fleshed out AT ALL in CS2, and there's no in-between content from it and CS3 like CS1 and CS2 had that Ymir visit sidestory thing. Jusis certainly has a bulletproof reason for dropping out. His dad's in prison, his brother is now Osborne's head ironblood, nobody is left but him to run the great house. But then you get stupid ones like Laura, who 'wants to train the way of the sword with her father'.. bish, you were doing that BEFORE you joined Thors, and you spent the whole of CS1 and 2 gassing up how expanding your focus made you grow MORE in an indirect way too, so why not just finish the job? ugh. IMO it really feels like they decided at the last minute that class 7 wasn't going to be a class anymore and they didnt' bother writing in the details or why or ANYTHING. Macchias had more content regarding Patiery than he does his post cs2 aspirations ffs. IMO the ending of CS2 is Falcom's absolute #1 biggest ball-drop in the entire series.

    I love the gotta go rescue my friends feel of the first half of Cold Steel 2, especially because of the order in which certain characters rejoin the party. Based Angie! My beloved. They will never make me hate her. <3 I always loved how they paired Duvalie with McBurn. What a duo. Divertissement was my favorite part of the entire game and Robbie Daymond did a excellent job as the English voice actor of Lloyd. The Cold Steel games are great and while I do believe they get better with each game, Crossbell is still home to me and Lloyd is my favorite protagonist of the entire series. Great video bro! Enjoy the rest of CS3, and the other Trails games you still have yet to play.

And blue destination and reverie corridor are just classics I always have on my normal rotation. Also while I agree that CS2 is the weakest of these second arc games, I really like the finale and the emotional rollercoaster you get from getting the hype crow fight up to him dying and osborne coming back. And then just immediatly jumping into crossbell hype.

    That was a really comprehensive overview of the whole game's plot and characters in 1 hour, hah. I also think CS2 is comparatively a "weaker" game than SC or Azure, but given there's 4 Cold Steel games plus Reverie... the way I see it is I associate CS1+2 together with FC or Zero and CS3+4 with SC or Azure. I must say that personally I really like the Final Final Dungeons and all the fakeout endings. I always have fun messing around with the billion different characters they give you at the end and making my favorite team. Not to be spoilery but later games have a ridiculous amount of characters to choose. No excuses for putting plot critical information in NG+ though, what was Falcom thinking? Thankfully they don't do it again.

  • @KnoxZone
    @KnoxZone 3 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

    Yeah. CS2 is in a weird place where it's both the payoff game to CS1, but also the setup game for CS3/4 so it can't quite reach the bombastic heights of Azure/SC. Still a very good game, but one that can be hard to appreciate until you see how a lot of it pays off in the next couple games.

    I think it's not a coincidence that rean was always in a group with the most infighting at the time in cs1. It's kind of implied that sara puts him in these situations as a central figure of the class and someone who can symphatise with both sides of commoner/nobles debates.

    • @ViralwingX
      @ViralwingX 3 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Yeah this is exactly why. Rean is the Great mediator of the OG class 7. He also grows quite a bit from having to balance both sides. So much so that once class VII reunite in this game he's class VII's unofficial leader. Which Ironically feeds into his self sacrificial nature but that's part of why he works. He's the first one in and last one out.

Really respect falcom for having the balls to end this game the way they did.@@ViralwingX

      @@KarlKraft888 Yeah. Him and all of Class 7 actually lost by the end of this game. They lost Crow and completely failed to find the 3rd way for the empire to go. This is why the final dungeon is the way it is too. It's was to give class 7 a win, even if it's a completely pointless one. It allowed them to actually take something for themselves before they split up. Even though they save a lot of students and people during the war.( This is objectively true they kill tons of monsters to keep the roads safe for common people as both armies don't have the time to do so.) They failed at the number 1 thing they were working for. And it affects all of class 7. Rean the most as he's class leader. Makes him feel human despite his Demon power.

      GE3 probably had the best iteration long blade, mostly because you could equip 3 and its IE moves didn't completely suck. We're not even 3 minutes in and it's already the spoiler section, I think that's a new record XD. - I know it's a common criticism that a bunch of Class VII members don't get much in this game, but honestly, I don't know why we expect all characters to be relevant at all times, what's wrong with a character being more relevant in one game, and then less prominent in another ? I think of Elliot and Machias in particular, who both had moments in the last game, but were given less relevancy in the next, and it's not like they didn't have their moments too like you pointed it out, it's just that other characters have more spotlight than them (like Fie, Jusis, and Emma in particular who remained a mystery throughout all of CS1) and that's okay, they don't need to be equally relevant to the plot. - Sorry bro, but I will have to disagree heavily on Elise, despite being virtually absent from the whole game, she had a big moment with Rean in the prologue and was the reason for Rean to finally be able to control his power with Alfin as her proxy, so to resume her in this game as just her crush on Rean is a bit disingenuous - Regarding the what-ifs on the ILF, while it's a pointless to talk about this since, you know, it's a what-if, it didn't happen, it was interesting to hear what you thought would happen in that scenario, and it's a credible one as well; though I'll argue on the whole deal thing that it's debatable, because Crow's the one with the knight, he can offer his services in exchange for their lives as well, it's not exclusive on him alone (but also, had the Nobles won or it he hadn't died, it seems likely given their relations that Crow and possibly the ILF would've bailed into Ouroboros thanks to Vita and escape repercussions). - Hell yeah!!! Eden Riegel is the best!!! - Regarding Vita's goal, yes, it's still quite mysterious, she was only interested in the battle between the Ashen and Azure, regardless of the winner, all she cared about was setting the stage for this clash and nothing else, but as for why and what was the point of it ? 🤷 (though it's more than likely related to Ouroboros' plans and her own wish as well), Stay tuned I guess. - 38:19 😐😐😐😐😐😑😑👎👎👎 - Good point about Duke Albarea, him being a normal dude and having megalomaniac yet realistic ambitions makes him a bit more terrifying because it could happen in reality. - GLORIOUS 3D!!!!!!!! And I don't have anything else to say, great review despite having some points of contentions on it; so that's it for CS2..... Until the nutshell video of course, but that's it for the comments I make on it, I finished writing the last one yesterday after two months, it was a doozy to finish(and also a bit indigestible to read since my pavement managed to reach 9 WHOLE COMMENTS THIS TIME!) so please read it if you can, I don't want to have put this much work for nothing, pretty please ? 🥺 (I know it's a bit of a plug, and I'm sorry for that).

      I'm not sure I'd give Elise the credit for Rean's epiphany moment because he has the same damn epiphany multiple times and then goes on and needs to re-learn it again, and again from different sources each time (always a loli though lol). It's part of the reason why some people don't like him as a protag as much as Estelle or Lloyd, because despite having more screentime, he takes the longest to develop/learn anything., or rather, despite the extended time, he learns the least.. At least by the end of CS2. Fortunately his new 'role' in CS3+ makes him better overall IMO. As for character relevance, it's a fair point that not everyone needs to have equal screentime or focus. Alisa probably should get a bit more though since Falcom was trying to make her the 'canon' love interest for Rean. Most people hate the harem mechanics because your choice is shallow and effects almost nothing. Falcom should make your decision matter more, OR, NOT have the harem system and just make a solid decision and develop the story for that choice more, and I think most people would prefer the latter.

    O gods, I'm getting PTSD form this video. That one Boss in ToS 2. Alice and Decus. That fight was horrible. The game hits you with a healer and physical attacker combo that you have to fight at the same time. And you can not focus on the healer, because then the sword dude will charg at you. But if you charge at the Sword dude, he gets healed. Worst fight ever, but I was also really bad at the game. Thank Aidios Radiant Roar exists. Marta saved me so many times. That MA is truly the best thing ever. I don't really know Dragon Ball, but fighting a giant ape that can just crush you in his hand does not sound fun. Btw, I think the Sayjins arebased off of the Chinese monster from some myth. I can not spell it's name, but it is apparently a very famous monster. Just like the four heavenly beasts that are used a lot in media.

    Now, after a good divertissement, it's time to talk about the epilogue and the end of this game. - It starts with Rean going back to Trista by Train, you were wondering why didn't he just use Valimar to fly back, well, because it consumes energy, so it's more practical to go back by Train where they can transport Valimar back alongside Rean; At the station, we meet with Claire and Rean is quite cold toward her, well, her and the Ironblood it seems, but the thing that bothers him the most is the fact that she had suscicions regarding his real father, and as she said, she didn't have hard evidences, but the signs were here, which causes Rean to blew her off; he admit later that he act irrationally, but he feels so cold now, so it's the perfect time for the rest of the class to welcome him back and bring some warmth back into him. Also, since you brought it up twice, I'll just repeat what I said last episode: While he did fail his original mission of preventing the initialization, Rean didn't lose against them, didn't use his ogre power, and could've easily overpowered them using Valimar, they escape because he decided to split their losses, so he IS kinda right when he said it wasn't that tough XD. - And we get an explanation on what happened after the Infernal Castle, including how the war came to an end; the game kinda glosses over that and doesn't outright state it so let's get to that; soon after the events, the castle returned to its original form, and the people's memories of it started to become vague, convinced that it was some kind of hallucination, this detail could be a result of the system Vita talked about at the spirit shrines, about how the truth regarding the divine knights disappear from the memories of all, especially since that same castle showed up back during the War of the Lions, and no one remembered it enough to put in history books, so it makes sense that it's the same here, especially because nearly all of them got their energy sucked by the Vermillion apocalypse at the time (which could also be the reason why the cast and villain weren't affected by the memory manipulation, in addition of them being directly related to these events) ; after that then, the war came to an end abruptly, but not because of one side defeating the other, but because of an agreement found between Osborne and Rufus following what happened with Duke Cayenne and what's going on over in Crossbell; as I said last time, the Noble Alliance had no idea that Cayenne was trying to usurp the imperial family, by revealing that to everyone, the whole noble cause was completely discredited since he WAS their supreme leader and they can only came up with the excuse that they didn't know about this and plead to the emperor for mercy, which is the truth, they didn't know, but as the leader of the faction, Cayenne made everyone look bad and made them seem like traitors to the throne, how funny that the same peopke accusing the imperial army to be traitors during the war ended up being accused to being traitors themselves; which is what lead to the accord by Rufus to end the war in a hurry to prevent Calvard from taking over Crossbell, Cayenne and Albarea got sacrified for their survival and forgiven by the Emperor, but in the process, got put in Osborne's debt for allowing them to do that, which in return will make them a lot less prevalent and noisy in the future when the reformists will do reforms because Osborne will be able to dangle this debt and what they almost did to the Emperor over their heads to shut them up; so even if on the surface the war didn't end with one side winning over the other, the Reformists are absolutely the winners of this exchange, and especially Osborne since now that we know Rufus is loyal to him, everything played out just as he intended, why bother spending resources and lives crushing forces like the Generals Aurelia Le Guin and Wallace Bardias when you can discredit their entire causes, and all the while making seem like you're a benevolent leader by forgiving the people who tried to assassinate you and the emperor and allowing them to remain in power, when in reality he's putting them in his debt while Rufus will make sure to siphon their powers so that they can never try a civil war like that ever again, it's when you see all of those details that you realize that the Civil War played out exactly as he wanted and that he fully tooked advantage of it in order to squach noble influence for good with minimal losses and without harming his image to continue his agenda.........this man is undoubtedly without equal as a strategist and in the political game, and why the threat toward Ouroboros coming from him is extremely credible; the game doesn't explicitly say all of this as I said, but with the outcome we saw and the pieces of info we got on the Finale and this epilogue, it's easy to deduce all of that from them and I love it. And yeah, as a result of his actions, Rean was acclaimed by everyone as the hero who liberated Heimdallr from the noble faction (despite his efforts of being a third faction, there you go those who thought he was too reformist-oriented, are you happy now ?) and is now called the Ashen Chevalier as Osborne said, this status placed him in a pedestal that he didn't wished for, and as a result, was asked to help with the occupation in Crossbell to fight against the Republican army, which he accepted for reasons we'll talk about in a bit. - Also, another thing the game doesn't explicitly state but allude to multiple times, but Class VII is disbanding at the end of the year, so the class will be graduating after only one year instead of two, which is why as some Instructors say they're going through the lesson much faster than intended, but because Rean was absent due to his mission in Crossbell lasting for a month, he won't be able to graduate with the others and will be forced to do a second year in a different class; and with all that happened during this year, some of them won't be able to stay any longer due to obligations while others have an opportunity to chase their dreams while they still can, but we'll get back to that after; I'm surprised you didn't showed Instructor Mary and her "heaving metal" XDb and yeah, the whole conversation you have with Sara after is only there if you did the final bonding event with her, otherwise she gets roasted by everyone in the class including Fie telling her that if she still has sight on Laura's dad, she might as well get over it and buy a couple of cats XD. - Before getting to the penultimate NPC tour of this game, I'd like to talk about one of the things that make this epilogue great: the return to normalcy; that was the objective of Class VII and the others during the entirety of CS2, the return of their normal lives as Thors students, well now they got it....... And it's not the same; we're going back to the formula of the first game with the evening section, then the dorms, and then the free day, and it's weird after going through CS2, and that's clearly intentional because that's exactly how Class VII must be feeling right now, the Civil War changed them, they can't go back to being unaware and enjoying their school lives, or at least not in the same way as before, Crow isn't there anymore for starters, but the situation and affairs of the country has changed and their knowledge of said affairs as well, you can't unlearn something, even if you want to, you know what you know; you can even see them trying as hard as possible to live as normal as they can, which makes it even more painful when they break down at the end, their silence when the conversation shift toward Crow, or when Rean crumbles in front of Towa; these days are gone forever, they can't go back to it anymore like they dreamt about, all they can do now is to move forward, relentlessly, without looking back, Crow's parting words lingers throughout all of this epilogue and it's great.

      - So, this NPC tour, with the mention of the flea market happening the next day at the auditorium (which Becky and Hugo will be competing of course and Colette will go on a shopping spree, most of the second years are talking about their future career choices: Vincent will return to his home to support his family, managing the land and establishing a liaison with the other second years..... While still fleeing Margarita XD; Friedel will go on a journey to test her swordmanship and invited Loggins to come as well, the latter was planning to enlist in the Imperial Army, but at the end, he started to second guess himself; Lambert will join the Imperial Cavalry as a noble soldier with his partner Whitcomb; Fidelio has been proposed by Norton to join the Imperial Chronicle after his and Rex's photo were recognized at the last Fulitzer Prize; Theresa will be joining Emily in the Imperial Army's new air fleet despite the objections of her father; Clara found some sponsors for her work after instructor Mary went around to show the piece she made during the Civil War, she didn't reject the offers but she just want to focus on her work XD; Hibelle will join the Military Band after graduating in order to spread and demonstrate the power of music; Klein went to a training program for the imperial army, so he's not here this evening; and Nicholas found a job at the Railroad Corporation in a buffet car, so he'll travel the land while making new dishes; of course, with the club leaders graduating, some replacement is in order, Bridget will take over the Wind Orchestra (despite Mint's best attempts to volunteer XD), Casper will succeed Klein at the Swimming Club, Linde will take over Clara at the Art Club, Rex as well for the photography Club (who's taking pictures of girls once again, RIP Rex the war photographer, we barely knew you XD), Paula replace Lambert for the Riding Club, Ferris will be the new captain of the Lacrosse Club, and for the Fencing Club, Friedel doesn't know so she'll let the one who has the most wins between Patrick and Alan XD (the latter really improved thanks to him dating Bridget for 3 months now and can go toe to toe with Patrick when before he was the one beating his ass, good job 👍),but also, the Occult Research Society is strangely closed and you don't see Beryl anywhere, that's weird 🤔, Kenneth's brother finally came back from Crossbell since the events of Azure are done now, and some student and staff are also cheering up Rean with the events of Crossbell and the Ashen Chevalier, like Rosine, Munk, Sara, Beatrix and the principal, Heinrich will talk about if you saw what's going on at Arc en Ciel Since we were in Crossbell, he worries over Rixia Mao's safety...... Yeah, we won't tell him Rean actually fought her, that's for the best XD, Neithardt is still busy with his military duties understandably so and Makarov who's on the roof talks about the new hangar behind the engineering club where they'll be storing Valimar and the new Soldats in the future, because yeah, with them being used on the regular within the army, they will more than likely be asked to teach about that at school, thing will start to be very different starting next year. - A glance at the newspaper, this is why I said that it's quite fun to compare this issue with the one you get in Crossbell in the last episode: because of the blatant propaganda and change of stories; Crossbellans being happy to be incorporated to the empire, remorseful of their actions and ready to collaborate with them, if you've played the previous segment, newspaper and the Crossbell games, you know that all of those statements are bullshit, after seeing propaganda from the noble faction throughout the game, we see that the propaganda continues but on the other side now, yay XD, and we hear now that with Crossbell under the empire, the economy has returned to normal and even beyond that, not surprising when you know that Crossbell was an economic powerhouse already by themselves, but now, Erebonia will reach economic prosperity and is on its way to become the most powerful nation of Zemuria, which was likely one of Osborne's goal in this annexation, the plannings of this man doesn't stop😵; there's an entire part on Rean the Hero and how the army consider giving him special treatment once he graduate to become a military officer (as you started CS3, you know that's not what he chose to do, but we'll go back to that), as you noted, Marquis Rogner and Hyarms stayed at their posts and will continue to hold their Provincial Council but will Rufus as well, so you know Osborne will have a finger on this pie as well, and they end by reasserting that the Infernal Castle was nothing more than a collective hallucination as I said. - Now for the mandatory scenes with Angelica and George, who have their own plans after graduation, the former plans to tour the continent just like Kilika did, on her own motorcycle, yep, she let us have the old one and asked for George to make a new one for her instead, while the latter plans to do the tour of every manufacturing companies of the continent, starting with ZCF in Liberl, the Epstein Foundation, and even the Verne Company in Calvard, which will be a bit difficult condidering the strain relationship going on currently with the two nations, but not impossible as he can pull some strings; and it's a good time to go back to Rean's actions in Crossbell since they bring it up; basically everything he did was to protect civilians, that's why he accepted to go to Crossbell in the first place, the skirmishes of Erebonia and Calvard were violent and could've easily spiraled out of control, causing Crossbellans to be caught in the crossfire in the process, which is why Rean intervened to keep the fighting out of the border of Crossbell and to keep order in the city, even if it meant securing the annexation of the Crossbell by the empire and being seen as one of the conspirator of said annexation, that's also why he feels torn up over it and why Angelica and George cheer him up on that, his choice was the only reasonable one after how Osborne planned all of this, if he hadn't intervened, the war with Calvard could've been more brutal and Crossbell could've tried to rebel more openly, and while the result of the empire conquering everything would've surely been the same, the time it would've taken and the number of innocent lives lost would've been another thing entirely, so Rean decided to act in order for the conflict to end quicker, of course even that was part of Osborne's plan to reafirm the idea that he's a national hero who helped in the occupation of Crossbell when the primary concerned had different motives entirely, but once again, he didn't have any other choice, what do you think he should've done ? Nothing ? And let people die when he had the opportunity to prevent them, that's even worse! And I remember some in the fandom saying that he could've used his status of a hero to denounce the Chancellor and the current government, but as we've seen in the newspaper from earlier and the way the Chancellor planned things, the annexation of Crossbell is considered legitimate in Erebonia and something everyone in the empire wanted, not to mention how Osborne and the government has made every effort they could to look like the good guys after the Civil War, so had he done that, Rean's plea not only would've fallen on deaf ears, but also would've turned public opinion against him and even possibly being branded a traitor; so yeah, great plan huh😅? But yeah, Angelica even say that it doesn't matter what she oe George say on the subject, Rean has to come to terms with his feelings on it himself, but if he has something to remember, it would be that he has friends who understand him and why he did these things for the right reasons...... You see, Angelica can be a cool character sometimes beside her schstick with women XD.

      - And for the scene with Towa, it's probably one of the best scene in the game; after a little reminiscence of a scene in the first game where Rean found Towa asleep in the computer room, her mentionning Crow during her sleep trigger PTSD within Rean who try to brush it off afterward when she wakes up, so she says that whether you're a boy or a man, it doesn't mean you have to endure everythinf life throws your way, it's okay sometimes to sit down and let it all out, a lesson all of us should probably take notes on, and that's where Rean crumbles right in front of her, apologizing for not keeping the promise they made to made Crow graduates with them (even if, like you said, he would've gone to prison afterward, the chances of it happening weren't zero since he was still alive and that he did helped bring down Cayenne and saving the Crown Prince, there was room for negotiations, but since he's dead, this promise is forever unkeepable) and just let it out with Towa grabbing his head, it's such a powerful scene and Sean Chiplock gave an outstanding performance in it, with Towa reassuring him and that he did everything he could, he died not as an enemy, but as an ally showing how he truly felt about all of them, so he shouldn't beat himself up over it...... God I love this scene. Anyway, on another note, Towa's days as Student Council President are almost done, and she has her plans after graduation, she plan to take a year to go on a tour of various NGOs of different fields in order to see the world from a variety of different perspective before engaging in a career choice, and she can allow herself to do that considering all the achievements she made both in CS1 and CS2 between helping against the terrorist attacks in Heimdallr, participating in the Trade Conference and being the captain of the Crimson Wings faction during the Civil War, absolutely no one would turn someone with that kind of resume off, even if she took a year off to do something else; and yes, you'll get sidequests, otherwise, it wouldn't be a free day like the rest 😏. - On the way back, you get a trip down memory lane as the class remembers their trials and tribulations that led to now, including the orienteering exercice, the accident between Rean and Alisa, the rocky start of the relation between Machias and Jusis, and of course the gargoyle they took on together, their first day are burned into their memories; and just as they're wondering what they should eat tonight, who shows up but our favorite maid saying she already has everything ready, the Chairman allowed her to return to her caretaker duty despite the company struggling to keep up while they're rebuilding the company, and that's because Gywn finally returned to the company and teamed up with her daughter, allowing her to have the time to come her, and of course Sara finding out about this is hilarious XD; Elliot is right though about how she's allowed to wander around like this considering she's an Ouroboros Enforcer, but as Rean said, there's likely an agreement between Reinford and the government to leave her alone, though from what we seen of the other enforcers in the series, that wouldn't stop her from doing what she wants to do.

      - The conversations at the dorms at night may be optional on paper, but they are extremely important since they explain what each of them plan to do after graduating and the path they'll be following, and you might have noticed in every single conversation a moment where the person say a triple dot followed by a "it's nothing", that's the cut off point for the person you chose in the final bonding event, in your case that's Sara, but anyway, let's get to it starting with the boys: Elliot Will be able to attend the music academy like he always wanted, so he made his decision, though he also say that he wants his life to be more varied and not be completely about music, so he'll train with his Orbal staff on the side; Gaius will return home, due to the rising tension between the empire and republic, his home will likely be caught up in it so he want to be here to protect it, in the meantime, he'll paint the liberation of the academy as a memento for him to remember his second home by; Jusis was left in charge of the Kreuzen province since his father was arrested and Rufus tooked control of Crossbell and never looked back, so he'll essentially do that while managing the provincial army and keeping in check the stubborn Nobles, he estimate that the first six months won't be easy in him, and honestly, good luck to him👍; Machias in the other hand is already hard at work on his next year at the political academy where he'll be the youngest since normally you need to have already graduated from Thors and gained some experience, but giving that it's Machias we're talking about, he'll be fine, and with all skit regarding what makes Machias special, not only did you forgot Fie who's a badass Jaeger, but your judgement on who's special and who isn't is kinda skewed isn't it ? 😅 Elliot has music, Gaius has Wind, Machias is the guy with the shotgun who can't stand Nobles and who can break the time b a r r i e r , he's plenty special; Alisa will go back to Roer to help rebuild the Reinford Group alongside her mother and Grandfather, and the latter will teach her the ropes, she wants to continue doing exercices once she's back and she became emotional all of a sudden and starts crying thinking about how blessed she is 🥺; Laura will be training with her dad to learn the advanced techniques of the Arseid School, but it will take at least half a year and she feels guilty to take her father's time considering the country's situation, but as Rean say, now may be the best time to do it since the peace has relatively returned, they're in the eye of the storm and they'll return in it soon, so it's an occasion that they probably shouldn't miss while they still have the chance (also, she tooked a picture of her and Monica at the courtesy of Rex who was checking them out earlier on the balcony, of course he would propose himself to do that XD, but at least it's a nice photo and he actually asked permission for once so we'll let it slide); Emma will leave to search for Vita and probably to report back on her clan, Rean will still be able to contact her if he needs it, but it won't be with the ARCUS or by drawing a circle like you joked about, but with runes....... Which is just as cryptic as magic circles XD; she also do a collection of books with dorothee.... And we know where it's gonna go; Fie will go look for Zephyr, so she ask Rean to look after the flowers of the Gardening club while she's gone, and if they're blooming once she gets back , he get a headpat, finally someone return the favor of this serial headpatter XD; Millium, as expected, will return to her duties as an Intelligence Division agent, where she'll be sent to the west where the unrest is still present, and in Liberl and Remiferia as well, one thing to note is that she's the one to comment on the attitude of everyone at dinner, it seemed like they were having a good time, but it was weird because, as if they were upset but didn't wanted to let it show, and since she's the one who tries to understand feelings and emotions, it make sense for her to be the one to blatantly say it, and goes to show that even if she didn't grow physically, she's done a lot of growing on the inside; Sara will quit her job as a teacher to return to the Bracer Guild due to the situation, and she can already see plenty of travels abroad and difficulty operating in the empire in her future, Rean of course feels guilty because of what happened in Crossbell and the impact it'll have on her and the Bracers, and she's proud of him instead for having a student who can stand up and make the tough choices like throws at him, and Rean reaffirm his creed regarding the mission he's doing: he's not a part of the Intelligence Division and he doesn't plan to, so they don't own him , he'll only do the missions he feels comfortable taking, and he'll never do something that will put him in conflict with the guild or putting innocent's lives at risk, that's the credo he wants to stick by and that's what he did at Crossbell too, and Sara is aware of it; with the mission in Crossbell, Rean can do just about anything with Valimar now, so Celine's job is done, so she reminisce about their beginnings and do a uncle Ben by saying that with great power comes great responsabilities, Divine Knight have incredible power and can easily become either gods or devils depending on their awakeners (we saw it firsthand with the Vermillion Apocalypse how that could be the case); Rean's wondering about what's going on in Ouroboros after what happened last time, which is quite understandable, but Sharon doesn't have the answers to those question as nothing reached her ears regarding either the, Anguis or the Phantasmal Blaze plan, I already talked about last time how it would be possible for Osborne to took it over, we don't know anything regarding said plan so how can we know he can't do that, it's obvious unless he's bluffing that he knows the specifics of that plan, or at least how to achieve it, which is why he can took it over, but we'll need to know further details regarding the plan before diving further; I'm glad you thought of going to Crow's room after talking to everyone, it's something many people miss, beside the whole Crow ghost bit, this scene shows that, like I said, Crow's parting words had an impact on everyone, guiding them to the right path, living their lives the way they want because they get only one shot at it, and while Rean won't leave the academy like the others, he'll do what he can from here to honor his words and to least have enough credit to not repeat a year like a certain someone; and as we go to bed, we have a flashback of Abend time not being in the air anymore and what Vita is doing now, as well as a call from Elise who sounded off apparently.

      - Okay, time to do another free day for the last time in this game alongside the last batch of sidequests and the last tour of the NPCs, let's savor it. The main topic is of course the flea market occurring at the auditorium (Colette was in heaven) which is basically an excuse to buy things you normally can't acquire in Trista for the Finale, and it's also the occasion to close some stories as well, like Vincent and Margarita, the former is finally confronting her head on after the latter cornered him with the help of Millium (and something Sariffa didn't prevent because she thought it was time for him to come face to face with her before graduation.... Even if she would've enjoyed it lasting longer XD); Machias and Jusis bicker once again over a book and will challenge each other for it in a chess match later, speaking of which, Stefan will be going to the Imperial Army's Computer and Network division after he graduate, so that he can make use of the things he learned at the academy and at the Roer institute during the war; Vivi left the flowers in the care of Linde while she checks out the flea market disguised as her.... And she's supposed to be the next head of the gardening club the next year, good exemple 😅; at the flea market, Becky and Hugo are competing once again, but the incomes will be going straight to charity in order to help the places touched by the war, at least he's not always thinking about profits, and speakinf of places touched by the war, we learn from Becky that the reparations for the market were finished and that they resumed their business in full capacity not that long ago, thanks in no small part to donations coming from all over the country, including one from the emperor himself; Loggins accepted the proposition made by Friedel to travel around together as fellow swordmen since he didn't wanted to go to the imperial army with as weak of a resolve as he had yesterday; Munk is excited for the new show that will replace Abend Time this evening (and is also the subject of a quest), Klein return from the Imperial Army's presentation; Mint continues to push instructor Makarov and Mary together, despite the complaint of the former XD; Dorothee and Emma are in the library searching for reference material for their story anthology she talked about last night by searching the stories of the alumnis, and apparently Dorothee found happiness in some of these stories so she'll take them back as "reference materials" of course XD; Fidelio and Rex are taking photos for the yearbook all over the place; Fie and Laura are fighting each other in the auditorium for who will be buying the limited edition pudding for them and Monica who's watching; Elliot is with the Wind Orchestra preparing for the performance at the flea market; Gaius is thanking Clara for the time he spent at the club and the things he learned there, which of course Clara doesn't give a shit about XD; Sara is drinking at the bar, what else is new; and Alisa is competing with Ferris one last time at Lacrosse; and guess who's back after being suspiciously absent yesterday ? That's right, Beryl's back baby with her Occult research society, what was she doing all this time? Fuck if I know 🤷. But that should be enough for now, let's go to the Sidequests. - The first is the conclusion of the Kenneth and Annabelle storyline, if you remember, the reason Annabelle ran away from home in the first place and why her butler ran after her is because her family set her up into an arranged marriage with another noble family without telling her, during her travels, she learned how to fish to survive in the wild, and as we found out at the end of the first game, the family she was marrying into turned out to be the Lakelords, and more precisely its heir Lakelord III, the one who showed up in Crossbell in Azure, which is why she became acquainted with Kenneth during the festival since he's Lakelord III's brother, she was planning to return home afterward but then the Civil War happened, causing her to flee Trista with Kenneth and being separated from him before arriving in Ymir, where she'll stay until she reunite with him and until the end of the civil war, now back to the present, she still doesn't like the idea of being married, so her and Kenneth tried to find a way to call it off for her own happiness, but Nobility obliged, nothing is simple and bit refuse to back down, until Kenneth manage to reach a deal with his brother by challenging him to a fishing battle, where Captains and Vice-captains will compete to catch a specific fish each, and of course he choose us to be the vice-captain XD, we get to see Lakelord III again with the sprite in 3D this time, as well as Narses the Crazy Wave, one of his Elite Four who will be acting as Vice-captain for this battle, he was one of the opponent you needed to face in Azure before challenging Lakelord III, and by coincidence, the fish you need to catch in this match is the same one you needed to challenge him in Azure: a Noble Carp, while the Captain will try to catch the ultimate fish of Cold Steel 1: the giant swordtail; this quest is a true test to see if you kept up with your fishing throughout the game, or more precisely, if you still have the feather rod, you'll catch a tendonitis trying to reel these fish, and I'm quite surprised you fit in that category, I thought you fished during the playthough and that you've bought at least the new rods as you rose in ranks, but apparently not, and so you suffered as a consequence, whereas getting the superior ones would've made things easier; in the end, Rean and Kenneth win and Lakelord III as promised call off the marriage for losing and also because Annabelle like Kenneth, and he'll return to Crossbell to continue his training and because a lady is waiting for him (Kenneth namedrop her, it's Kaguya the Dragon Princess, also one of the elite four, who had a thing for him even back in Azure, and also stayed with him during all the ordeals of the independence), and that's the end of it, a good sendoff to this storyline, though I also like how afterwards, Lakelord III and Narses are blocked off on their way back by the little girl living next door to the river, who often watched Kenneth fish and was fascinated by it, and they are so baffled by how she "crudely" talks about fishing that they decide to teach her how to use a fishing rod XD. - next, the radio talk sidequest, the emission that will replace abend time that Munk talked about, their test will be in Trista, so we need to ask people on what makes Trista great, and from different people too: Child, Worker, Elderly, a student and a teacher, m and the last two need to be serious about it, so definitely not Vivi or Instructor Makarov in that case XD (in the end it was Monica and Vice Principal Heinrich, the latter was more inclined to give a comment when he heard the radio station may broadcast in Crossbell, the Rixia simp is still strong XD), bit the more surprising one is after collecting all the comments, if you check the table of the radio station before reporting to Michael, you'll see a letter that wasn't here before written by none other than Misty herself making her own comment about Trista, this is the first sign of life she's given to the radio station since the war broke out and they're happy that she's alive, and the fact that she bothered to write this at all showed that she cared playing her role of host in Trista and it left her with great memories, a good sendoff to this particular matter......that was optional and easy to miss if you rush to report it but what else is new ? 😅. - Next, is the quest directly related to the flea market and searching for people to donate items for it; it's basically a fetch quest but the situation you get the items are pretty good; Micht gives the Paper Mache Mishy used for the Mishy attraction at the festival in exchange for a photo of the racong horses that Lambert managed to acquire after being awarded a prize over there XD; the janitor heard that a second-year was planning get rid of something they made during club activities that tooked a lot of time, and of course it's Clare getting rid of her work because she doesn't give a fuck about them once they're finished XD (we get a lion statue); and the best for last, by helping Sara clean her room of all the bottle lying around before she moves out, you get the entire Carnelia collection from her, even though you can't read it in this game, this is my cue for the last time to encourage you to read these books XD; so yeah, a fetch quest reminiscent of the ones we did in the first game, and that was the intention as a callback.

      - Speaking of the quests being callbacks, who shows up with a hidden quest after completing 3 normal ones just like last game, Instructor Neithardt and his swimming lesson of course, which is crashed by the girls afterwards and is turned into a competition of Boys VS Girls, I like how you boasted that you've beaten Laura at swimming..... Only for the girls to win anyway because they've put Laura and Fie forward for every match XD; while this is mainly an excuse to bring back the swimming minigame one last time, someone find an interpretation of this swimming battle that is interesting as a the war: the Boys (Rean and Class VII) tried to win fair only for the girls (Osborne & Rufus) to cheat their way to victory, which forced the boys (Rean) to compromise on their moral and accept defeat, and it was relatively bloodless too; it also serves as a sendoff to the relation between Sara and Neithardt where the latter managed to come around with Sara's methods as well as the role the Bracer Guild will have for this nation's future, he finally tolerate her and that sometimes, using the cheap strategy is a viable method, morality is a very personal thing and everyone has times when they need to stray from the path of righteousness (which could also be said about Rean's situation right now). So yeah, a good one as well. - Now for the mandatory ones, starting with the race, I hope you practiced using the bike during the Civil War because the race from Act 1 is back, this time against Angelica and the loser has to buy drinks for everyone. Though honestly, this race is so on an even footing and there's so little shortcut that the race is decided the moment you start it, if she's in the lead, you'll most likely won't catch up to her, if you're in the lead, you can block her and you'll probably win, it's a bit weird; bit anyway, Rean wins and Angelica buys five drinks, one for everyone involved in the orbal bike project.... Including Crow 😢; apparently there's good news coming from the Reinford Company that they are considering going all in on the orbal bike development, which is a huge deal that can more than likely lead to mass production, on something that was just a test project by the Roer Institute of technology at the start mind you, so it would be a consecration of the efforts proto-class VII put into this, as well as a way to remember Crow by too, nothing's set in stone though, so it'll be up to Rean and Angelica to spread the good word of the Orbal bike far and wide, and George is leaving to us the key to the engineering building, as it turns out yeah, since George will be leaving, there'll be no one to take care of the engineering club anymore, so it's up to Rean to find promising engineers next year and guiding them to the shack where they can restart the club, no pressure XD; all in all, while the race wasn't really great, it was still a good sendoff to the bike storyline that we followed since the first game. - and now the meat and potatoes: the return match between Class VII and Class I. Patrick and Celestin wanted a rematch before our class disband and leaves and before the latter returns home, and now's the best time to do it since he trained hard for this moment..... And that's the moment where you had enough of this epilogue and decided to brute force the matches with Laura, and that's quite obvious XD; this rematch does indeed have the same problem as the last fight with them: if you don't use S-craft, it's a somewhat challenging and enjoyable fight, but if you do, it's a cakewalk, especially with Laura+Tauros+Domination, which OS practically everyone, Patrick and Celestin also have the same moves as last time, which of course includes Celestin casting Insight and Seraphic Ring XD, the originality is that it's a 2v2 fight this time; after that, Ferris interrupt the group and asks for a challenge as well accompanied by her brother and maid (what do you mean you didn't know they were siblings ?! Not only do they have the same last name and hair color, but they also interacted multiple times together throughout both games XD), a nice detail that she kept her lacrosse uniform on since she was in training until just now (same for Alisa, if you choose her to fight, she'll have her lacrosse uniform), same as with Patrick, it's a 3v3 with them having the same moves, nothing much to say here; now the next part is something else, after beating both Ferris and Patrick's groups, who shows up but the principal and instructor Beatrix, after Ferris had the misfortune to say that Class VII is now the strongest of the academy, they wish to challenge us, that escalated quickly from just a simple rematch didn't it, and I like how the fourth party member you can call is basically like "..... Okay, I don't even want to know how you got into this situation" XD; now that's a match that can't be easily cheesed, to the point that winning it is optional and only grant 1 BP, they are more resistant to ailments and in general than the last groups, the Principal buffs himself and hit quite hard as you attested while burning, fainting, stat downing and deathblowing you, quite peachy (good eye, Qilingong is indeed the same move as Rixia and Arios, but also of Cassius, it's a move from the east, considering they established that he knows Yun Ka-Fai, Rean's master, maybe he learned it from him, just like his other buff: Xuanwugong) while Beatrix will take good care at deliberating you by delaying you and draining EP and CP, as well as giving first aid to the principal and herself, as well as REVIVING the principal if he goes down first, but that will likely not happen, because not only is she logically more frail than him, she also resist slightly less ailments, though not by much, but it's mostly due to the principal having in addition to that Xuanwugong which not only boost his defense, but also heal 25% of his HP, quite cracked, they're not as hard as the last fights in the Infernal Castle, but they're still a good challenge and show quite well the power of the strongest faculty members of the academy; and with that, we conclude this rivalry between Class VII and I by shaking hands with Ferris and Patrick, after two games with them. -Now, let's continue à bit the main plot with a strange disturbance near the old schoolhouse; and when we get there, we're joined by Toval who had business nearby and wanted to see how we're holding up, he reiterate that thanks to Crossbell being ennexed before a full-blown war broke out, things have calmed down on the surface, but that's only because we're in the eye of the storm, and now no forces on the continent are capable of stopping Giliath Osborne; we also have clarification regarding the father revelation: it wasn't made public, only the ones who were there that day know the truth, so Class VII, the Ironbloods and Altina, but it wouldn't be surprising if smart people like Olivier or Viscount figured it out already, and Toval seems to have connected some dots based on the events Sara told him regarding these events (which she didn't anything specific regarding Rean), but Rena won't tell him regardless, not bacaise he don't trust him but because he needs to sort things out in his head, Toval even ask him to become a Bracer, because he would be qualified for it (with all the diet-Bracer shit he do) and also because it's a good way to think things through and look within oneself, but Rean declines, because he wants to see the path he'd chosen to the end and also because of Valimar, I don't think the government would be too pleased with Rean leaving with him or Rean leaving Valimar at the hands of the govenment, oh well, there's always next time; then Elise and Alfin comes in with Claire in tow, it's a follow-up on the conversation they had last night so Elise went to see him, but the meat of this scene is of course with Claire because of the awkwardness between the two after the scene at the start of the epilogue, which is thankfully resolved for now, and also her interactions with Toval since they helped each otjer during the war but now they're on opposing sides, and Celine walks in for the same reason we originally did, and that's where things go down, everyone join in and you lost your mind, with a new dungeon inside the old Schoolhouse called the Reverie Corridor (any resemblance toward anything this name elsewhere in the series is purely coincidental....... Or is it? 😏), even Emma and Celine has no idea about this so we ask Valimar, and he reveal some shits to us: that this place was built by the gnomes, the same ones that built the spirit shrines we've been to and cooperated with the Hexen Clan 1200 years ago, and the ones responsible of the trial system, which raises a few more questions than it answers in typical trails fashion, mainly, why the gnomes did this ? Why did they create such a place, why sealing the divine knights and making people overcome trials to obtain them, and what is happening this time ? Of course, Valimar can't answer these questions and in addition adds another terms that seems important: the key to all of this is the Great One, the first to be born, and the last to stand..... And another thing we need to puzzle about, but the final boss of the last game was apparently the shadow of the Great One, I told you they like to recontextualize the things you fight, Rean and Valimar also theorize that what's happening here is likely another trial, but one that wasn't intended to be complete and is only there because of a disturbance (which will be confirmed as correct later) and that's all for now, Rean and everyone will join together to overcome this trial, including every guest characters that showed up during the game, even Sharon who wasn't here until just now and show up behind Sara just to tease her XD..
