Clark Colborn
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 19 มี.ค. 2014
Clark Colborn is an award winning hard rock, progressive & experimental guitarist. Fans & reviewers compare him to Joe Satriani, Jeff Beck, Brian May, Steve Vai, and Jimmy Page. Yet most agree that Clark Colborn has a sound all his own. Guitar Player Magazine called his music “brilliantly schizoid,” said his “tone comes on like Godzilla” and “in short, he rocks!” With his live band Clark roars through a typical show with the power of a locomotive while somehow executing musical hairpin turns that leave audiences in awe.
"Star Gazy Eyes" Performed Live! (No Studio Tricks!)
Edited together from multiple angles of fan-shot footage, this video not only captures the energy of the stage performance, but also the enthusiastic audience, as well. There is no studio "sweetening" or "fixes" that one will often find in supposedly live performance recordings. No, this is the real thing, warts & all. Audio is actually pretty good! And check out what one stunned concert-goer says at the end!

Descend Into Madness (Warning! Flashing imagery)

When I decided to get back into the music business seriously, I began having nightmares about it. The music biz can be brutal, and I was apparently having pronounced anxiety about it. This track is a musical representation of my anxiety, my nightmares, and my unrelenting willingness to keep moving forward. I ...

Is the Morley 20/20 Bad Horsie Wah Small Enough?
มุมมอง 2.5K7 หลายเดือนก่อน
Getting ready to hit some stages with the new band line-up, and the pedalboard needs to get smaller! My Bad Horsie 2 sounds great, but it is enormous! Will the Morley 20/20 version fit the bill? Will it be small enough? Or too small? And will it sound the same as the old one? These questions (and more!) answered for you, at absolutely no charge whatsoever! The Startling Truth about Skulls & Metal Music!
มุมมอง 1769 หลายเดือนก่อน
Skulls are inextricably linked to metal music of all sorts, but why? And when did that become a thing? Did Cher really have a skull on one of her albums? And why does the Clark Colborn Band have skulls everywhere? What does "Memento Mori" mean? What's that got to do with "Carpe Diem?" I attempt to answer some of these questions, actually do answer some others, and offer wild speculation about m...

😂 I have 2 that have been sitting.
“Fluid Glen Fricker” he’d absolutely giggle about that
Hilarious - Allen Holdsworth played an SG for many years...
The reason your SG doesn't have neck dive is because of the added weight of the trim system on it
Thanks for helping to clarify what matters
Great no-nonsense video... much appreciated! I've been through 3 of the Dunlop-style wah's (including a BBE Ben-Wah) and decided to pull the trigger on this Morley wah. I'm done with mashing the switch at the top, wondering if it's actually on, and having them eventually fail. This wah seems like it ticks all the boxes for me and it sounds great!
Thanks for watching, I agree... the switchless wah is the way to go!
I agree and good guitarists have their own sound and can also adjust and can play many styles of music because obviously not all music is heavy metal
Nuno, said when he played through EVH amps he was shocked that it sounded like himself and not Ed. The feel/ emotion comes from the individual.. in the hands, heart and soul of the person.😊
Excellent demo & review of this pedal. Thank you
Thanks so much for watching & for your kind comment!
Of course pickups make a huge difference.. I installed the very 1st Seymour Duncan INVADER when they were on the market back in the 80's on my LES PAUL and let me tell you. Plugged into a MARSHALL stack, the bastard Is pure RAW VOLUME .... LUV IT 😛🤘
thank you so much for your review, just found Glenn's channel and he mentioned you on a video. Two great gems!
Thank you for the kind words & for watching! I am embarrassed to admit it, but I missed the video where he mentions me! I need to go look for that, help out his channel while he takes a break to care for his wife.
I'm not entirely sure how I feel about this. On the one hand, I think it's super cool that the technology has advanced to the point where it can be shrunk down to this new size. On the other hand, though, I've been using an older style Bad Horsie 2 for over 20 years now and it's still one of my favorite pedals. I'm so familiar with its operation and feel that I don't think I'd want a smaller one.
I was in the same mindset as you are about ordering the new smaller one. Obviously, the new 20/20 Bad Horsie is nowhere near as small as my click-baity thumbnail makes it look, lol! You can see the real size in the video, and honestly, I got used to it really quickly. It's just enough smaller than my original to give me the extra space I needed on my pedal board. I'm going to do another video about how they sound compared to each other. Thanks for watching & commenting!
@ClarkColborn I look forward to the updated video :)
I didn't expect that you are agreeing with him in most points. If you have the time, send him some greetings. He is going trough a hard time right now and can't continue his Channel for the next weeks. His wife got a stroke.
Yeah, I saw that. That's some serious stuff, and I'm glad Glenn can be there for her. Streaming one of his playlists will be a huge help to him, if you can, Thanks for watching & commenting, and for thinking about Glenn & his wife!
The problem Glen Fricker has is that he's literate and assumes everyone else is. As far as Schenkers tech is concerned he was more than likely just verifying that all the signal chains were functioning and didn't play at full volume as an act of respect for the show.
Thanks for watching & for your comment. Yeah, I think I mention in the video that years after that particular Schenker concert, I figured that out. The story was more to illustrate how easy it is to fall victim to misconceptions. I'm better now, but I probably still fall for hype & myth on occasion, lol!
Glenn ... awesome dude
i got an epiphone prophecy sg and damn, neck dive is really an issue, i guess it is because of the modern bod shape and the locking tuners that make the headstock really heavy
Yeah, since making this video I've talked to loads of guys with SGs that neck dive. I've found there are a ton of variables that will affect this: body & neck being made from different kinds &/or ages of wood (older wood tends to be denser & heavier, although not always), position of the strap buttons, tuning hardware (as you mention), trem or not, etc. Maybe I should find a pal who has bad neck dive & do a video on finding a remedy. Thanks for watching & commenting!
YEA YEA YEA YOU'RE A SHOW OFF YOU OWN EVERYTHING! BASTARD LOL JUST KIDDING SO DID I TILL I GOT BURGLED EVEN TOOK MY SOFA AND FUCKING WASHING MACHINE AND IT WAS THE 90S IT WAS FUCKING HEAVY
bOOMERS HAVE EARNT THEIR KNOWLEGE OVER DECADES!
Yeah the high gain stuff is the thing people miss. For non high-gain stuff it all gets more complex (nobody sane would argue for instance that wood doesnt make a difference to an accoustic guitar, but an accoustic guitar is not high gain metal)
I have always heard that Schenkers tone was from his wah being wide open. At least his 70s stuff. I noticed a more modern sound with the save yourself album.
Honestly you kinda showed me the other side of Glenn. cause his media persona annoys the hell outa me, most of the time I cant see that his opinion is very well put together
The 20/20 Morley Wah is not to small for your boots😂👍 this is the real test. My Bad Horsie from 1996 has a problem with the batteri circuit...I never give it away...and my new 20/20 bad horsie arrieved and I love it for ever too...keep on cool guitar sounds🙏
lol I know, right? I was afraid it might be too small when I ordered it, but it's just fine, as you saw in the video. My original Bad Horsie has a ground issue now, I think. I'll check it out soon. Congrats on the new 20/20, and thank you for watching & commenting!
I always wondered why Dunlop didnt make more switchless wahs... That damn switch is hard to smash sometimes
That's the main reason I use the Bad Horsie, is the switch. With the Dunlops you mash the switch & hope it comes on. Can't tell for sure 'cuz there is no LED. And if it does come on your tone is at the bright end of the sweep & I prefer it to be at the dark end of the sweep. I really like curve & tone on my Cry Baby, but it only gets used in the studio due to those limitations. I'm probably being a little OCD about it all, honestly, lol! Thanks for watching & commenting!
Hey,..."who ever you are",...I've been around the world's block and visited a few "Guitar Centers" for more decades than you. "DOES NOT MAKE ME AN EXPERT!," P.S , (also did a stretch opening for MSG🤪🤛) Sooo, "WHERE'S YOUR CREDENTIALS BITCH?"
I think Glenn is mostly bang on in his claims in the context he makes them in. My only issue with him, but also many other "realist" youtubers, is their tactic of arguing from a particular easily defended high point of their choice, in his case it's the "modern high gain recorded metal". To someone who's musical interest is quite a bit broader their conclusions are unsatisfactory and often times very clearly wrong, which makes people pissed off I guess -- and that I suspect is quite a deliberate effect used for grabbing attention on the platform. It all feels exactly like that old car commercial where a measly Citroen 2CV is said to be FASTER THAN A FERRARI, with an asterisk explaining "Traveling flat out at 71.5 mph the Citroen 2CV will easily overtake the Ferrari Mondial traveling at 65 mph"
Yeah, folks are NOT "listening" to Glenn when he goes on his rants about PUs and amps and yadiyada. And they forget Glenn is talking about sound in the studio, and super-analyzing the audio going thru the board. Ultimately, his entire pitch is about bang-for-the-buck: do you really think an overpriced Gibson Les Paul is going to "sound" much different from a decent Harley Benton, once you run it thru tons of distortion and amplification, in the studio? Playability, action, finish, etc...those are all different things, and vary by guitar, and at the end of the day, a player's comfort level with Gibby might be better than a Harley Benton, just because they spent years playing one vs. the other (I have this issue all the time)...but thats highly subjective, and he tends to not have quite as harsh opinions about that...but boy, don't question him about high-gain studio sound...its his entire living, and his anger at guitar fanboys who think X or Y guitar is the perfect sounding axe (but lack anything other than subjective evidence for it)...is entirely justified.
I have a 79 sg that I bought brand new...never noticed neck dive with it..I honestly wasn't aware of neck dive until the internet..😂
That's me! I never heard anyone complain until I saw it on TH-cam, lol! Thanks for watching & commenting!
Well with nothing else changed, the difference I hear with high gain tone between my mayones (seymour duncan) and my kiesel (kiesel lithium PUs) is notable enough to make me choose one or the other depending of the piece I'll play.
Brilliant review. Hello from London.
Thank you, sincerely. I really appreciate the view & comment. I love London, by the way! Spent many hours on Denmark Street. Hope to get back soon!
@@ClarkColborn Aw, great place :)
Clark Colbern you rule!
lol Thank you so much! I appreciate it. And thank you for watching & commenting, too.
I guess I don't need to feel so bad about my probably Fake EMG's lol
I don't think Fricker is inaccurate, I think people just don't like him because he tends to shout everything and nobody really likes being shouted at all of the time.
This dude is unbearable. If you, blindfolded, can't hear the difference between a Bill &Beck Lawrence L500 and a Suhr SSH+ on clean, it's your problem not mine. EL84 convey way less lows than EL34. 6L6 and EL34 doesn't give you same results etc ... I have different guitars too with different wood, can hear huge difference. TH-cam is a mess "so called experts" telling you what to think. Even for weightlifting... Omg, I won't even go there.
I can’t stand the guy
Your sound is in your hands.😆
um...duh, when it's cranked so high and distorted with pedals and high gain...none of this gear really matters. That being said I detest. Being yelled and preached to by anyone, so I cannot stand the guy.
The Bigsby counters neck dive. Lots of weight in the back compared to a non-Bigsby. I have an SGS3. 3 pickups and one of those side-trems. No neck dive. I also have an SG with two pickups and no trem and it dives like a penguin.
That may be a factor, but I think it's a combination of things. I have several friends who own SG standards that reached out after I made this video. I played a couple without any trems, and had no neck dive at all. A couple others, to use your great phrase, dove like penguins, lol! We saw some variation in strap button placement, and the ones that dove were noticeably lighter, so we are thinking the lack of quality control on the wood is also a major factor. So many folks have reached with their stories, & the only conclusion I can reach is that it is about a 50/50 chance that you will find one with no dive, and I just got lucky with my two, lol. Thanks for watching & for sharing your experience!
@@ClarkColborn Thank you!
Hey Clark, thank you so much for this video! As a former roadie, I cannot emphasise enough what you said round the 10.10 mark: before a show, especially when there is a changeover, you (as guitar tech) gotta be swift - so in 99.9% of all cases, you'll grab that guitar, and make sure the signal is consistent and it's plugged in the right way, meaning, the sound engineer get's positive affirmation everything is working as expected. You do not need to turn up that volume knob fully, you do not need to have all the EQ settings up on the FOH: it's only important to get that signal through. Now, you do want to make a quick short-line check, meaning you check if the pedals work and - again - the signal is coming through. I would say, before a show you are more likely to hear 60% of what's it going to sound, than the full experience later on.
Thanks so much! A lot of commenters don't even make it that far in the vid, so they miss some of the important parts. I guess I need to make shorter videos, lol!
In high gain, pickups don't change tone a lot, but they do change the "tightness" of the sound. My Jackson RR7X with Seymour pickups sounds distinctly more mushy compared to my Ibanez RG7420 with stock pickups plugged into the same signal chain.
Glenn can be a bonehead..... His failure to get a good sound out of a Marshall and throwing it off the roof was stupid and all on him. Disappointing dumbass move....
Glen is the type of dude who has never made a female orgasm.
Tone is your end to end signal chain. Technique is in your fingers. That's the hill I will die on :)
Yes! This!! And I always add this: combine your tone with your technique and that equals a specific players' "sound." What a lot of guys miss when they say Eddie sounds like Eddie on a crap guitar through a crap amp is that what they are hearing is his *technique* as opposed to his complete sound. Thanks for watching and for the accurate comment!
Remember him insulting people for not getting the gov injection, I never went back to his channel again.
name drop much wow haha
Nope, he's a complete tool
I hate TH-cam sometimes
Whats funny about this Fricker guy is that he has figured out that mic placement and swapping the speakers makes a big difference in tone. But he hasnt figured out yet that the CABINET WOOD does so as well.
I remember my first concert, Deep Purple in the early 70s. Held the Guiness record for sound level for a few years. It was Oak for sure. Clearly Northern Red Oak from southern Canada.
Congratulations for the clickbait.
lol, I know. My apologies. Seems clickbait is almost the only way to get views sometimes. :-(
Aha, ok, so you basically agree with those guys. So where is the controversy your thumbnail and video title are promising? I guess there is none, just another clickbait video. Thanks for nothing. …Btw, I also agree with everything you and those guys say. Shocking!! 🥱🎈
