How to spray paint in the winter! (Ultra 9K)
มุมมอง 3.4K21 วันที่ผ่านมา
In this video I run you guys through how to I like to handle the winter months with super low himidity. If you didn't know humidity can be a help and a problem when it comes to spraying waterborne base coats. Without it you tend to see base trying to dry way to fast and become blotchy. This is one way to fight that happening. As always links to tools and products on the channel can be found dow...

Harbor Freight Black Widow (BRAND NEW!) Review!
I must say, I don’t usually watch a lot of this type of content, but I love learning. And like most people, I am a visual learner when it comes to application. I agree that there isn’t enough good field support these days. I’m a Sikkens rep, and have been in the industry for over 25 years. And when I get calls from painters, I’m always amazed by how little some folks know. But it isn’t their fault. As reps, we have to be available for you guys and be sure to have solutions for you. I like the cross coat application on drop coats, as well as the wet bed method. But, as you show Joel, gun control is key. For solvent users out there, ask your local AkzoNobel rep or AkzoNobel distributor about basecoat blend additive. It’s available in Sikkens and Lesonal solvent lines. Great job Joel!
I'm on the fence with this one, they state lifetime guarantee, but chatgpt states it to last between 2 to 5 years. I fell like this may be more for the DIY, a correct procedure I'll stick to 2k clear. Would like your thoughts on it tho.
I can’t comment longevity without personal experience. HOWEVER this is my best friend and body techs car. So I will be seeing it age and I will provide an update! With how nice it applies and levels I have a feeling it’s going to last a good long while.
I just did some very yellow headlights yesterday. They were out while I paint the frontend. They have internal cracks so from a few feet look great. Just curious what would last longer. If the lights are in the car the wipes are great for no overspray.
Being flat rate , this would help me be more efficient and crank out some more hours . My dream set up is to have Milwaukee rotary and DA 6” buffers , and the palm sanders . No more hose or cords and can just move freely wherever I want throughout the shop
Nice! I recently used the 3m kit on my wife’s crv but I’ll have to check this one out.
Quality work right there the real question is why so many paint shops dont color match correctly?? we see them everyday a car with substantially darker "blended" paint than the factory color
Does the 6 inch pad from 3m work on these?
My first Devilbiss was a gti many moons ago. Lol
I have both base and clear dv1’s I spray the clear with a 1.3 with the c-2 cap at 18 psi. Great gun but not fast. Atomizes great very efficient
Is it really that faded or is the clear coat just faded? I've seen "pink" cars turn red again after a compound and polish.... I'm not sure the base coat is actually that bad
It is actually that bad lol. This isn’t single stage. The base under the clear is cooked. Clear is clear lmao it won’t polish out 😂
There's a bunch of TH-cam videos of new bumpers looking darker than old paint but when polishing the clear on the rest of the car it adds depth to the original paint then it looks almost perfect. Dull clear coat will make the base look lighter than polished clear because of the way it reflects lights. And I'm not talking about single stage paint.
So how do you change or lighten the color by adding white?
No sir. Depends on the formula and toners used in the formula. If I’m aiming to lighten I usually leave out the strong colorant toners by half and see where it lands. Adding white only washes them out and most of the time doesn’t go the direction you want it to.
Great work man. How's the spectro reading when you scanned the faded area? It should give you a different color code and brand?
Yes. I open scanned it. It gave me about four decent options. Match ratings weren’t great but looking at the formula I went with one that would be simple to tint with minimum toners. Ended up matching great and not needing a tint.
@olie_olie_paintz yeah sometimes when i saw from the spray out , the flop of the colour is little lighter or darker, most of the time it blended out nice. But for silver metallics, sometimes i did get mottling on the blend area if some of the color flop is not that great.
Did your camera give u the blend color or did u tint it.
Camera gave me this one. I picked one that I could easily tint with the fewest toners but got lucky.
Are you using debeer solvent?
Sherwin ultra 9k water. Same as debeer 900.
Awesome work, paying attention to detail 👏
Can u do a revon the seris 2 iwata
Color code?
Exactly what is base coat blender?
Are there different DV1? I've seen them new for around 250 to 300. Just wondering if there's different models of the DV1 that give them a range from 250 to the 700 he's talking about. Thank you
There’s authentic and knockoffs. The Chinese knockoff guns aren’t nearly as well built. Nor do they have the same air caps or nozzles. It’s simply a replica spray gun handle. I would personally avoid those. There’s a lot nicer guns for $250 that aren’t knockoffs.
@olie_olie_paintz that's what I was thinking. Even the digital Guage looked different. So all authentic DV1 are the same? I'm just spraying for fun, not a job. How can I make sure the one I get is for base and not primer or clear?
That’s a knock off
What would you recommend to learn on and stick with for car restorations, between these guns for base and clear? Looking to spend under $300. Porphis 717 Master Elite 88 Black Widow Drizzle I have a 80 gallon 2 stage compressor. Thank you in Advance!
What stat gun is that??
I have the DV1 For 3 years or so Best gun I ever owned Doing painting over 30 years Have soo many different types of paint guns P.S next time use a little darker sealer for blue color So much easier to cover

👌
Is it just me but that basecoat looks quite thick🤔it must be because it's waterbase, I always use solvent basecoat but man that base went on silky smooth and the gloss from the clear is outstanding👌nice job Joel💪👍John UK
It is waterbase, Glasurit 90 Line is also thick
I cant find these nozzles here state side! do you know why?
Do you always use blender or is it optional for you
That’s what I do on boats but instead of clear base I just way over reduce it. 🤷🏻♂️
Could you tell me the number of the cup adapter. Just bought 717 . Great video
I finally discovered if you put a wool pad on that it will buff just like a rotory buffer
Even without the locks, the slides actually have a detent where if you push the slides in after closing the drawers, it will click and lock in place without the plastic

The fact that I can hear you while you're sanding is awesome. So much less noise.
I would still pick up some Rupes Yellow wool DA, blue intermediate, and yellow fine pads to use with this machine
Gunman is why i only buy from spray guns direct. Legend !
Is that white or light grey sealer that you’re laying down? I feel like I always have to put 2 coats down to get white sealer to cover on this line
What camera was that?😮 how u prep panel before the shot?
Turned out fantastic. As always
Thanks, appreciate it! 🍻
Greetings from Bavaria 🍻
Hi Joel, hope everything goes well for you at Sema I'll be looking forward to any content you post as there is no way I can get there seeing as I'm in the UK plus I don't have the time😥 I love my DV1 guns for both base and clear, when I first had my DV1 for clear I used the C1 cap and the 1.2 tip I'm sure you can guess what I thought about it even with what I do I found it slow but I soon upgraded to the C2 and the 1.3 tip which transformed this gun👌I spray my clear at 1.3bar which is similar to what you use as mine is also digital👍 I know a couple of people that swear this gun sprays at ultra low pressures and just don't get the fact that it's exactly the same as any other gun with the gauge at the bottom of the gun, I've told them a few times there is no magic going on making this a low pressure gun but they don't listen, one person is very well known in this industry and I love what he does but he still insists this gun is unique with it's low pressures🤷♂🤦♀😂John UK
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING FINISH..!! and for the price, what more does anyone want..?? I have watched literally hundreds of spray videos and I cannot think of another gun that lays it down as beautifully or as effortlessly as the PRD 717 split tip. Astonishing.
I’ve been using the DV1 clear for the past 2 weeks while I’m waiting on a nozzle set for my sata 5500 rp . I have been using the 1.3 with the C2 cap and spraying at 14 to 15 psi and it lays it out pretty nice and flat , I feel like 19 psi is too high for this gun but I’m going to try it out on a few jobs today at work
Hey Ollie are you spraying sealant over body filler? I’ve always wondered if I could spray sealant over some body repairs instead of spraying a high build 2k then rubbing
I wished I painted cars
Get started!
@ I’m the lead painter at a aluminum boat shop.. 🤷🏻♂️ I need to find somewhere willing to train me to move from boats to cars. I’m 24 and obsessed with painting.
@@nickcrill7718 insurance work?
@@FE428Power no manufacturer but I did a insurance job on my bosses boat. Got it done in 9.5 hours and it paid 39 hours. Insurance said they couldn’t tell what got painted.
I love watching the gunman! Some of my shop is heading to sema tomorrow hope you all have fun! Quick question Ollie ! I’m a very skilled body man however I’m starting to get my foot in the door for painting at the shop the painter is a big sata fan and that’s all he uses. I have a iwata kiwami and a 3m performance gun. What do you recommend for a great primer gun? Is my kiwami ideal for sealer or clear it’s a 1.3 just haven’t had too much experience with it. Also for base would you recommend a porphis vs 1.3 or should I shoot for an exodus op 1.3? We use Mirka cups so unfortunately I can’t use my 3m performance for primer. Thanks for any info you can give me for guidance!
I want to try the Exodus badly! That fan pattern is mesmerizing😮. I'm not in the biz, and I'm using a 3300 GTO with a 1.2 to shoot clear and I'm laying some glass here lately. Olie got me straight on the settings.
@ I’m hoping the exodus goes on a Black Friday sale. The fan is huge for such a small looking gun. 3m also has a new tip coming for reduced pressure! I’ve heard sagolas are built very well!
Very good video 👍
The Gunman is who helped me make my decision to buy my pro lite.
Same! First gun I ever owned!
@@olie_olie_paintzso I’m using the T110 and 1.2 for clear coating how much better would I like the DV1 for clear? My daughter’s gonna start sending me a 69 Camaro SS in pieces as soon as we get the cold weather mostly behind us. It’s a pace car parade edition convertible it’s having floor and trunk pans installed currently also quarter panels. The T110 is a fog maker for sure but lays some flat clear.
The gunman is a awesome person one heck of a painter one of the original TH-cam painters and yea I to have a prolite it’s a good gun
