How to spray paint in the winter! (Ultra 9K)
มุมมอง 4.1Kหลายเดือนก่อน
In this video I run you guys through how to I like to handle the winter months with super low himidity. If you didn't know humidity can be a help and a problem when it comes to spraying waterborne base coats. Without it you tend to see base trying to dry way to fast and become blotchy. This is one way to fight that happening. As always links to tools and products on the channel can be found dow...

5.0m sander is better for wet sanding clear coat paint with 3000 grit to get rid of deep scratches than the 2.5m
Do you have a small block or big block under the hood
Great video.
Cool to see such an old ford. I’m an old Toyota guy. I drive a 86 4Runner to work
Somehow I missed the last video. I love your longer form content. Can’t wait to hopefully see more of it in 2025
Have you tried running your DV1 at 22psi? Just asking as I just got mine for Christmas and was on the Devilbiss website and their specs say thr B1+ aircap should be ran at 22psi on the digital gauge and the B1 cap 15psi inlet pressure. Im eager to test mine as our shop has been closed til after the new year. Love the video and super stoked to give mine a whirl this week on a 737! (Edit) Also i just hit the point of your video saying the dv1 clear gun is enroute. I csme across a video recently where a guy broke down both base and clear guns down and were 100% same gun except forbthe C2 cap on the clear gun. (More material i believe)
If you you’re really good you should see your reflection like a mirror 😂
Its a great gun for the money been using mine for the last few months no problems , i've not used it for base yet but i'll give it a try . Great vid 👌
Super rozlany lakier taki sam jak po iwata w400 pozdrawiam serdecznie Krzysztof
and costs a small fortune - overpriced
Beautiful color and awesome paint job! I learn a lot watching your videos! Thanks for sharing!!
I have been shopping for a gun for two weeks, I wanted a budget gun because I want to learn to do my own painting, I wasn't ready to drop $300 on a starter gun, but then I thought, I have a lot of things to paint. I'm so damn picky and meticulous. I watched over ten Porphis reviews and they were all great reviews. This morning I woke up and decided to buy the Black Widow, then I watched one more review, your review. I broke down and bought the brown 1.3 PRD-717 VS Type with Split Nozzle. I am excited to get started.
do you like the VS better for base or clear?
You're absolutely right, the DV1 really breaks down the thicker clears which I prefer especially when you see the job again a few months later and they don't shrink, the DV1 puts it down nice and flat, you don't need ms clear if you want a 1st class job
I've started telling my customers now if they want to use parts that need repairing before we can paint them the extra time and materials and cost of the used panel works out the same as a new one and sometimes even more and lesser results
MINE JUST ARIVED IN THE MAIL YESTERDAY....!!!!
Glad that you mentioned not taking the clear base all the way to the edge. That really is essential with some colors, especially spraying sikkens solvent base.
how is the overspray
Man what is the part number on those 3m cups we use pps but I would love those for clear
By chance what interface pad do you use on your da
😊
You should use 3m gold on metallics for blends sometimes the grey is to aggressive and leaves scratches
Fully appreciate your opinions I find it gives me confidence knowing other painters have similar views to my own, you don't talk too much at all, people who think that are just bad listeners that don't learn much
we live in a time where a cheap product doesn’t always mean crappy quality and i love that
OILE OILE CRACKING VIDEO THERE MADE VERY WELL EXPLAINED THANKS FOR SHARING THAT INFORMATION 👍
Turn out great can you use solvent clear coat over waterborne base coat.im about to paint my dads corvette in my garage can make up my mind on what brand I don’t want to use the cheap paint and clear this time maybe middle of the road cause I don’t feel like wet sand and buffing the car
why wouldn't you use red sealer instead of grey? takes less coats to cover
I have the Willy quick top on my packout. I looked at pretty much all of the tops and really liked Willy quicks top the best.
Great video bro! Beautiful color for that truck
Can you show the masking? When you do the cab
What if you did get the base wet… would it cause a problem
Spies hecker is the best water base ! no mottle unlike ppg! ppg sucks!!!
Glasurit 100 line is the best water base system available in the world
@ Have to disagree. There trying to copy spies hecker. There just not there yet . 1 and a half coat . Try sanding that base good luck
@ I use it everyday and I feel bad for anyone that doesn’t lol
@@bodyshopsolutions695is glasurit a urethane based waterborne ??? I’ve heard that from somewhere and heard it is easier to sand your base when it is dry
Its totally different techniques applying solvent and water. We used debeer solvent and now debeer water, which i believe its the same with ultra 9k. In silver its always a pain to blend in water whereas solvent its quite easy. Saw your previous videos on blending silver in ultra 9k, and thats help alot. I always reduce the silver 1:1 with the blending addictive to cover the blend. Not sure why every time it happens to see the blend. Im looking forward to more video from you if possible on blending difficult color with water. Thanks man.
Coming to think of why the blend shows up might be possible color different from the flop. From what i can see usually its the flop is abit dark for silver in water compared with solvent which is lighter and easier to blend.
@@ntonytayare you guys blending into a wet bed ??? I’m completely new to water . My thoughts on it is you spray your wet bed down and ahead then do your 2 coverage coats allow everything dry then do your control coat over top of everything and if needed you can mix your blender in with your base to cut the strength if it needs it . That’s how I spray sikkens autobase solvent and have amazing luck doing it that way but that is totally not recommended to do it like that 😂😂
@@austinthebeast33 usually i let the wet bed flashed and then put the base on to blend. Its per TDS as water is abit different. I know that for solvent its possible to do it immediately after the wet bed , but it's not recommended by water. But if really thing doesn't turn out the way i wan, sometimes its worth to give it a try.
@@ntonytay what happens if you spray a metallic over a wet bed in this system do the metallics tend to want to float ??? Or smear
@@austinthebeast33 yes if the wet bed is not flash, the metallic will smear, it happens to very fine metallic.
is the vibration the same as the traditional air tools?
Good video brother , I love solvent base coat, especially for my garage paintjobs , to much needed for water borne paint , not to mention the humidity
I love these kind of videos brother your doing awesome very honest and informational i learned alot from you.
Did you ever make the video as mentioned for the best diy garage set up? I was researching this gun how i came across your channel. I have a 30 gallon dewalt advertised 7.7 @ 40 compressor. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Ive been thinking about purchasing the lph 400, but that still use around 10 cfm @
Just had sun fire installed in the shop, loving it so far
Great video mate, just out of interest, what's your dv1 setups for base and clear
Man I miss that clear one of my favorite clears
For those who are concerned about the toolbox not being deep enough you have to remember you need to park a car right next to it if you're using it at a home garage. In a matter of inches your walk way to the back door or washing machine is tiny. Clothes basket will not fit that small walk away gap with a parked car. Something to consider.
Solvent is easy to sand, Glasurit 90 line waterbase is a mess trying to sand its almost impossible 😂 . Great video got me a walcom gun for Christmas 🎁⛄🎁
Hi Joel, fantastic job with the solvent base the finish you got is superb, all I use is solvent as it's easier for me in my homemade booth I have tried water base but it takes longer to flash and can be a pita!😁 You sprayed the base exactly the same as I do with one light coat then two full wettish coats but the problem I get is with the drop coat do you do it while the panel is still wet or do you let it dry first, if I do a drop coat over a dry basecoat it always feels gritty even though I always use slow reducer and I use my DV1 1.3 Digital with the B+ aircap at 17 psi at the digital gauge, any help would be appreciated, cheers Joel👌John UK👍
If you have to do a drop coat at all do it with the basecoat wet. Typically my 3rd coat I’ll back up and keep a tight overlap and it’s essentially a drop coat but I’m allowing it to wet out vs how I spray water. Solvent has to wet out in order to adhere to each layer. So if you dry spray it it’ll actually shift around on you and mottle. I like to go slow with solvent start to finish. Ends up being faster in the end because it builds up evenly.
Ok thanks for the advice Joel, I've seen some do a drop coat on dry basecoat then others do it wet so it's good to hear it from someone that knows what they are doing👍
Solvent is a vacation 🤣
Absolutely 😂🔥
What fluid an air cap did you use? Looks great !
Dv1 base 1.3 and dv1 clear c2 air cap 1.3.
Hi Olie ! I've noticed you're using a PPS adapter on your porphis, what number/reference is it ? I've got a prd627 too and would like to purchase one of those. Thanks for yours videos 🤙
What’s the part # on your fresh air mask
Wish I had a booth like that! Nice work..
Works as good as a flex for under 100 is hard to beat
