  • Well this job didn't exactly go according to plan! That's okay though because in the end we got to the planned destination. Just happened to take the scenic route if you will. Let me know how you guys liked this video! I know it's a long one so I hope you made it through!

I have had good luck with sanding scratches out of raw plastic with 600-800 then refining it to a 1200-1500 wet. once you are down to 1500 its almost as smooth as the unsanded plastic and you can seal it like normal without issue. Give it a try and see if that's quicker or easier for you.
P.s. I'll have to try my Kiwami for sealer, looks like it lays it down pretty well! Oh and yes, everything is always on fire lol

I thought dodge had rough primer on new parts, GM sends parts that they managed to solvent pop and throw sand in. Metal parts can have to sand off all the e-coat. When I sand the sealer I use some water with the dry paper, if I put flex in my sealer it's not going to sand for an hour.
When I have to sand the waterborne I use I bake it for 5 min.
I had a job that went south in basecoat and after sanding it and trying to base more gave up and washed it all off.

I prep North American bumpers with no courser than 1000 and grey scotch or scratches will show when you seal them and only wash with waterborne cleaner

Great video Joel, I like how you just get on with it when things go wrong I wish I was as cool as you when it hits the fan but I do tend to over react but I do walk away from the situation then return later to fix it which is the only way I can get around the problem👌if I didn't have a timeout I would probably take a very large hammer to it😬🤬😂John UK

Maybe do 600 and go back over it with 800 before sealer? Also do you remove everything from the booth when you bake? I was told I had to remove everything even my hose. Just got a bake cycle for the first time.

@@olie_olie_paintz Salary nice, but all depends on skill level, location and yrs experience. A good way to tell you are making good salary is, are you making more than half of the labor rate at your shop or less than half of the labor rate or half of the labor rate . I make half Of the labor rate working flat rate killing it . Oh yeah and i only work 6 hours a day sometimes less but I don’t work for a dealership and i do both paint and body work and i do some cars from start to finish, basically all the high end cars I do from start to finish . Me, Custom Corvette Specialist 34yrs, collision 6yrs exp. and killing that easy shit. The guy at my shop making salary watches me leave every day at 2 o’clock and I make his pay double easily every week with 30hours or less. So I hope they are paying you good . And painting isn’t stressful it’s relaxing, Stressful is watching your corvette getting judged by 4 guys for a “Triple Crown Gold”Trophy AKA The best of the best. 🤣🤣
